Archos 101 runs very slowly when resuming from standby - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
my 101IT 8Gb runs extremely slow when resuming from standby.
Scenario and tests:
It happens normally after severals hours in standby mode (more than 5~6 hours)
It takes about 7~10 seconds since I touch the screen until the icon or button is pressed
It happens with or without the microSD inserted
I have killed all running apps using the Archos System Monitor option (it takes ages), without any success
I've run the system diagnostics from the Recovery Menu and everything seems OK
It is updated to FW version 2.1.08
I have Google apps and only a few of other apps installed:
- Aldiko
- Angry Birds (of course )
- DroidWall
- ES File Explorer
- Google AppsWidgetsoid
- SiMi Folder
- Zuma's Revenge
It only works fine again after a reset (pressing the power button 10secs)
Any idea?
Thank you.

I have the same issue. Any suggestions would be great.

Hi,
I don't if this will help or is applicable, but in some other devices, I've seen suggestions that turning wifi off before putting the device to sleep mode might prevent this.
Just a guess.
Jim

i had this problem before installing Uruk, after that this problem is no longer existing

I had the same issue. Now i switch off Angry Birds before i send my Archos 101 to standby. Its enough to press the home button before Archos will sleep.
For me this fixes the issue.
best regards
trilu

I have the same issue.

I do not have this issue with my A101 or my A43. It does take about 10 seconds from the time I hit the power button for the WiFi to reconnect, but that's not what you are talking about.
Maybe I don't have this problem because of the way I use computers in general. Before going into standby, I close down or kill all processes that are running that I don't really need running. So that means if I was playing Angry Birds, I not only exit the program, I always run System Monitor and kill all processes I don't absolutely need to keep running. This is a habit from the stone age of computing when machines were not that good at going into or out of standby or sleep. In reality, all of the machines I use from day to day are actually quite good at handling standby, sleep or hibernation - I just don't trust these modes and avoid them if at all possible.
So, do you just put your tablet to sleep with all sorts of stuff running, or at least resident, or do you act as if it's still 20 years ago?
Bye.

oops sorry thread changed

Well, I believe this would be really useful if we were using 20 years old computers, but this is not the case . Actually, one of the strengths of Android, from Froyo onwards, is the memory and processes management.
Anyway, I tried switching WiFi off before sending it to sleep, uninstalled Zuma (suspicious for me) and everything seemed to be OK for some days but, this morning it has happened again.
I have tried killing all processes using the System Monitor, restarting the launcher (Zeam) and, finally, I've had to do a reboot.
By the way, I'm also very careful with my computers and OS; I always use to close applications properly, install as few applications as possible, avoid unnecessary services or autorun programs (specially in Windows), etc. I mean, I also know what happens inside the box.
Conclusion: No clue!
Regards,
Carlos.

[TIPS'N'TRICKS] The Perfect Foliomod

During these months I always searched for a solution to the very well known issues that plagued our Folios without finding something really useful, but now the game is over (so I hope). Let's see how:
The problem(s):
-Foliomod 1.4 (thanks Dexter, you made my day when I discovered it), is the best rom you can find ATM for the Folio table: it's fast, it's smooth and really stable, and it's based on the last Toshiba rom. But it suffers from a couple of major issues that make it less than perfect (all the issues are from the original Toshiba rom, Dexter did not add anything). These issues are the SOD (sleep of death) that make the device never go out from standby (you have to reboot to regain control of the device) and frequent spontaneous wakeups from standby that make your battery drain quickly when you put the tablet in hibernate mode.
The solution:
The solution is based on a mix of magics with a little bit of luck (only to say that what is working for me, can work for you too, or cannot work at all: I give no warranty!)
Download and install the following software from market:
- SETCPU
- SCREEN OFF (by techvision systems)
- BATTERY GUARDIAN
Now, in setcpu, configure the system as Tegra2 and raise the min clock to 608mhz and tick "Set on Boot". This will help with SOD.
After that, put a shortcut on your homescreen for the "Screen Off" app.
Then, go to Preferences and set the device to never go to sleep in display options.
From now, you'll use only the shortcut to the "Screen Off" app to put the device to sleep, and you'll use the power button only to wakeup the tablet. You'll notice that you have to press power button three or four times before the device really comes out from sleep, but it will never fail.
Finally, reboot the device to activate Battery Guardian (it's a little daemon that closes all network connections when the device is in standby, and reactivates all the connections on wakeup).
Ok you are ready to go. My tablet is really perfect with these mods, I hope the best for you too, but remember that what's working for me, could work or not for you: don't blame me if this doesn't suit your needs.
My Folio wakes up only when I need it, and it gave no SOD in one week of intense use. Post your feedbacks, please...
Thanks for share it with us, i will try.
Thanks for sharing.
I don´t have foliomod instaled but i gave it a go on cyanogen 7 and screen off works ( have to use power button 3 ou 4 times to wake up, but works) , battery guardian didn´t work (after wake up it won´t connect to wifi until i clean my wifi password , insert it again and connect manualy).
As nothing to do with foliomod but i wanted to share with everyone .

Foliomod 1.3d is not different from 1.4 under this aspect. The kernel is older and some app FC randomatically. The only reason to keep it is 3G support.

Can someone make a backup of the app and post it here or at a fileshare?

I have a question !
It's really necessary to have installed battery guardian ?? I want to be noticed with a sound if I have a new notification. Folio is going to deep sleep if i don't install battery guardian too ?
Hi guys!
I'm a new (proud?) folio owner, and so far I've tried FolioMod1.4 and FolioTNT1.0, but I've been seeing wifi problems, SOD and sometimes random freezes, and random wakeups from sleep.
1. I've downloaded the app called "CPU Master Free" which allows changing the minimum and maximum frequencies (as a replacement of SetCPU).
2. I've disabled the "screen timeout" in settings->display (I guess that was what was meant by display sleep in the OP)
3. Installed "Screen Off" to turn off the screen
Seems like it works, except that I guess the battery life is decreased by a lot as the device is running at the lowest running at 3x the minimal frequency.. (I get around 5h usage with screen at 50% + Wifi + Browsing)
I've also read that the SOD is a driver issue, and nvidia has released an update which "fixes" it... Anyone knows anything about that?
Another issue I've noticed with TNT is that a USB mouse does not work. The cross appears in the middle of the screen but it cant be moved. (This worked fine in FolioMod1.4)
Anyway, the rest of the system is prettyyyy sweet! Thanks for all the great work

When the tablet is in hibernate state wifi is disabled, so youl'll get no notification for new emails. For all the other notifications (alarms, calendar and so on), battery guardian has nothing to do with them, as it only closes network connections. And yes, hibernate works without battery guardian too, but I noticed frequent unwanted wakeups without it.
Yesterday I configured my Folio exactly as described in the first post.
So far so good and all works well, but it seems, that this configuration drains the battery quickly and the battery was empty after 9hrs of standby (from 65 percent remaining).
Anyone got a solution for that, i.e. extending the standby time?

[Q] Saving Android Battery Life in FLIGHT MODE

hallo,
i installed different kinds of android (SD version) on my HTC HD2, lastly i decided to use the MccM HD V6 SD SENSE FROYO and im very happy with that.
but ive got a problem: when im using flight mode while sleeping (usually 6-8hours), the battery loses 40-45% charge.
here is the situation:
- when im turning the device off and on again before using flight mode (means boot to wm6.5 artemis and then launching android, activating sim card and then setting device to flight mode) it tages 3-5% of charge during the night.
- when i do NOT reset the device, just enter flight mode after using the phone the whole day (facebook, google maps, ...) then the battery loses 40-45% charge as said before.
so the problem might be an application, which - once it is startet - always tries to connect when im flight mode. i startet using zdbox with autokill on lock, later also autokill system programs - no sucess.
lately i tried batteriefu, but this only stopped my data traffic/connection right now.
i have no idea, what to do against that. a friend told me, its not necessary to use taskkillers at all in android - whats your opinion?
maybe the SD android is a problem? (when programs use the SD card during night, it drains the battery?)
thnx in advance
markus
ps: sorry newbie, first thread in this board - when im doing wrong, just tell me - it was not on purpose.
Battery drain
wHY NOT JUST SWITCH THE PHONE OFF AT NIGHT????. Am I missing something??
Good luck
- galarm? (alarm use)
- and it takes time to go to wm6.5 and then launch android?
John, your shift key is stuck..
I can't help you directly, but SpareParts has a log feature that will tell you which applications cause the device to not enter sleep mode correctly (wake-lock), using that you should be able to locate the program causing the issue.
ok, spareparts was one of the things i uninstalled
spareparts or spareparts+?
thnx!
Normal spareparts should be able to do it (at least the one that came with my CM7 does)
ok, installed it, checkt the logs, loading battery and testing this night
interesting, last 2 nights there was a batteryloss of only 3-4%.
no idea why...
I've heard of roms / kernels taking a couple days to settle before some of the kinks go away, so it might be something of that sort. Otherwise I would assume your phone should be saving power if it's not connecting to networks as frequently

Y'know, I thought it was just me thinking this but I have noticed better performance once RevolutionROM has been in for 2 days or so.
I know there is politics for posting on a old thread but I saw this thread on Google while trying to see if this happened to anyone else.
I would like to report that right before bed I had 22%. My Samsung Skyrocket will eat right through 22% overnight if the cell radio is on. So without rebooting I turned on airplane mode (so I would have an alarm in the morning.) I woke up and my battery was at 28% I couldn't believe it. I will try to re-create this again. This was from 2am to 7am. In my battery details graph it even shows a little "hill" noting the increase.
I did hit the Task Killer button from my ES Task Manager widget right before airplane mode to make sure Facebook and Email were closed.
Any Input?
Have you tried betterbatterystats? I had high drain with new rom and seems to have been Audiout_2 which was started by the keyboard click. It was on by default in the ROM. Its off now and all is OK. Seems once it starts it must be continuously polling.
Sent from my HD2 using the power of Jelly Bean

HELP!! Android system suddenly drain 35% power overnight!

Everyday before sleep, I usually turn off wifi, bluetooth, all unwanted application. And I used task manager to kill unwanted program running and
go to Task managers and free up the RAM. Usually when I awake on the morning, I have similar battery power left before I goes to sleep. BUT
today morning, my device battery all drained up completely, and I charge up the battery and check what causing the excessive power usage. I go to
Setting>About device>battery usage. I notice Android system using 35% power over night. And I check which application running on the background
and I see all these things list running over night and it scares me to hell.
Included packages:
Perso
Security storage
DRM content
EncryptApp
PopupuiReceiver
Software update
VPN Services
Error
Status bar
Bluetooth Test
Settings
com.sec.android.app.Icdtest
Factory Test
Settings storage
com.samsung.InputEventapp
WlanTest
Account and sync settings
Setup Wizard
Task manger
MTP Application
Service mode
Android system
License settings
Google Backup Transport
wssyncmlnps
All these thing causing my android system used so much power over night today. And I was scary as hell what might cause these testing. Did I get
a virus/malware? I didnt install any weird app the previous day. Today I charged back 100% power started the device, half hour idle time, android system
goes down to normally 5% power usage. Seems normal for now, but I duno what causing all the testing running overnight? Help appreciated.
That's a LOT of apps running! I don't think I have that much going on when I am busy and connected! I do find that battery readings get "stuck" and I see a 30-40% drop all at once, but that's after a lot of use and the battery stuck for a few hours. Maybe you have something backing up to the cloud and the app isn't smart enough to know you don't have a connection. If this keeps happening, you might install an app like "Power Tutor" to see if you can pinpoint the app that's causing the most drain.
An important thing to remember is that the battery gauge on our devices is wildly inaccurate on it's best days.
I just want to know what causing these testing on android system overnight?
Last night I did deleted and add some files(not important system files, just other files like game apk,mp3,picture,etc). Then my media scanning says my storage full/lower memory when I still had 5 GB internal storage left. (probably referring to the RAM, not sd storage space) Then I search around and I found that my media storage has like high 95mb, so I clear data/cache. Then the media scanning icon can complete scanning and "full storage/low memory" message disappear. And I restart my device, then I went to sleep. Then today wake up with all those listed items running/testing on Android System drained up my battery.
Calm down
I say just calm down a bit. This is probably just a one-time thing. I doubt it will happen again. If it does, though, you should come back here and post immediately, and somebody will probably find out what's wrong.
P.S.
Do you have a custom ROM or Kernel? Sometimes these things can act strangely. I once had one that spent a bunch of battery trying to get a cell connection on my Galaxy Player!
I didnt have any custom rom, it is a stock rom
Did you install any new apps or anything different from what you'd been using normally?
I tried to install gameloft Fishing King, but fail, so I copied the data to that folder failed too. so i deleted those files and uninstall it.

Sudden Battery Drainage

I understand all these battery drain issues that the prime has been having but haven't actually had them, until now. I used to lose about 2-3% overnight but suddenly I am losing around 15% because it won't sleep. I go into the battery setting and it shows it been awake the whole time. Now I am sure if I looked around I may find a fix but it just seems a bit odd that it has just suddenly occurred. And its not a wifi drainage issue as I usually put it to sleep at power saving mode and wifi off. Just asking why?
Thanks,
I think it could be the Asus weather widget which I had set at 1 hour refresh rate.
if this just recently occured out the blue, likely a rougue app or something you recently installed. an app running in background or sync is likely the culprit.
Just put Skype on it but that's not signed in most of the time
every android tablet and phone i have does this occasionally, and those occasions are when i either play video or music. some of these media players employ a wakelock that will not disable after you put your device to sleep. sometimes a reboot will work, sometimes not. most of the times the reboot keeps it from draining. even force quitting all my media apps wouldn't work.
so basically i reboot every time i use any type media player so i don't get the drain - netflix doesn't require it, dice and just about every music player does. i'm not sure it this may be your problem, but it may be a possible solution.
I find that making sure to check the last two settings under Asus Customized Settings helps this. I was waking up in the morning to find my dock dead everyday before I checked those two settings. The only down side is when I turn the screen on and wake it up, it takes about 5-10 seconds to connect to the wifi. No biggie.
Use better battery stats and see what is causing it. I have read that skype does drain battery pretty bad. And even if you're not connected it still runs in the background at start up. Another app I would recommend is Autostarts. It allows you to disable apps at start up. I know system tuner is free and has the same functionality but I find Autostarts better. With ST, you just disable the app at start up, with Autostarts you can disable it at start up, shutdown(which some apps fire when the tab is being shut down and other system events), also other events. Like some apps fire up when you get a text, or when your connection changes etc.. I just think Autostarts has more options.
Also dev Entropy has a thread in the GS2 forums about know battery drainers. Some of it applies specifically to the GS2 but there are a bunch of general battery killers listed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308030
If you go to setting and battery it should show you which is using the most battery. The first one on top. If its android system, you can click on it and it will show you a list of whats been using your battery which may point you to the culprit. In my case, media was the only thing in the list. And I know if an SDcard is inside my dock it will drain battery. So after removing it the drainage went away. Havent had the drain issue since. Again yours might be different so check the battery usage.
Thanks for the feedback guys, the first thing i am gonna do is charge it up after it fell flat right up to 100% then try some suggestions. I am thinking a reboot could help it.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 always at 80% RAM usage / Google Now problems

So, it's been bothering me for a while but my now 2-year-and-2-month old Samsung Galaxy S3 always just runs incredibly slowly. Not only that, but I tend to burn through the battery easily within 6 hours. For the past year and a half, or so, I've had to resort to carrying around two spare batteries with me as it has a tendency to run out of charge in the middle of the day, let alone if I'm out at a music festival or something. I'm not a particulaly heavy user, as in I rarely play video games on my phone, nor do I really watch videos or ever use bluetooth. Occasionally I do use GPS or WiFi, but I try to keep them turned off when I'm not using them. I tend to use my phone for music when I'm in the car, or texting / whatsapp / occasional snapchatting, or checking Pulse News or my internet banking. I don't have a particularly huge amount of apps installed, I don't think. And I regularly hold the Home button, & press the close-all-apps button to make sure that they're not running in the background.
Yet, my phone is so laggy. It's like there's a constant 3 or 5, or even sometimes 10, second delay for whatever action you've initiated to actually occur. You'll press Messages, and it'll take about 4 seconds for my text messages to show up. You'll press Home, and it takes about 3 seconds for it to close. Facebook just took about 8 seconds to load. It doesn't sound alot, but it can be quite infuriating when you're trying to get things done in a hurry. It's even worse when apps are running in the background!
So, I got to check my running processes and there's just loads of things running that both don't appear to be running when I hold the Home button but also shouldn't be running because I haven't used them in forever. It appears my phone has approximately 850MB of RAM, yet my phone tends to ALWAYS run at around 725MB used (currently it's at 751MB, as can be seen in the screenshot attached). But when I do go through the list of things running, the right hand side it tells you how much RAM is supposedly being used. Yet if I total up all of the RAM being used by all of the apps that are apparently running, it only comes to about 300MB. So where the heck is this other 450MB of RAM being used?! THIS is what is slowing down my phone, I think.
Not only that, but there are things in this list that are running that shouldn't be running, & I don't understand why they are. Facebook, sure I can understand, in case you get a notification or something. But TuneIn Radio... I'm not listening to the radio at the moment, nor have I used the app in weeks (and my phone has been restarted numerous times since then), why is it running? S Voice, too? Video Hub? Google Play Music, I've never even used it. And then there's loads of things I haven't got a clue what they are, like Exchange Services, ELM Agent, SmartcardService, etc. Now I understand it's like a computer, where there are a number of background processes that have to run to make the OS work, but why are all these other apps running that I'm not using?!
-------------------------
Furthermore, I've started trying to use Google Now because I would like to get a Moto 360 (but I'll ask questions about that in a seperate thread). So, it seemed to work fine a few weeks ago. It gave me stocks, news updates, ETA to work or home, started remembering where I was parking. But now a few days ago I go back to it, after not using it for a little while, & it's all reset; Asking me to set it up again. So I did, & it mostly works but I can only ever seem to get the first "page" of cards up. When I click "More" at the bottom I just get an endless spinning circle & then the message "No Internet Connection - Content was last updated X minutes ago" appears as the top card, when infact I know I do have an internet connection. Exiting the app, closing it down, & then re-opening does not fix the issue either. I'm at a complete loss as to what to do.
Furthermore, it always asks me to "Improve my location: For more accurate location, let google search for Wi-Fi connections, even when Wi-Fi is off." I don't understand how this works, and what it's trying to do? If I turn it on, is that not going to be effectively the same as leaving my WiFi turned on at all times? Well, except without the benefits of being connected via WiFi. It's just going to drain my battery more, as leaving WiFi on usually does.
-------------------------
So tldr:
- Why is my RAM mysteriously using 450MB that I can't vouch for? Where is it going? How I stop it?
- Why is Google Now not letting my manually update the cards?
You are missing huge amounts of very basic information, search and read for what is safe to disable on stock rom, some things are vital others are optional.
If you leave everything running as default then 6hrs battery life is about right.

So tldr:
- Why is my RAM mysteriously using 450MB that I can't vouch for? Where is it going? How I stop it?
- Why is Google Now not letting my manually update the cards?
