Wifi not working? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't seem to connect to wifi. The phone keeps cycling between connecting, Obtaining IP address and Disconnected.
Anyone else having this problem? Any advice?

Are you connecting to a WPA enabled router? I've had issues on my Droid with certain routers (D-Link for one)... If I switch the router to WEP, it will connect fine.

For a phone to not support WPA is pretty lame. I picked up the TB today but I am at work. Hopefully it will connect to my home wifi network, I will update you on my results!

Had a similar problem on one of my TBolts...power cycle resolved it.

I can log onto my WPA network with no issues. Maybe bad password?

Well, I do use WEP and it will not connect. I turned off WEP just to see and it connects fine when I leave the network open.

Mine seems to be working fine, just connected to home network - I don't get a wireless icon up in the notification bar, but it goes green on my toggle.

[Q] connecting to a non broadcasting wifi signal

So it seems that there is no way to connect to a non broadcasting wifi network in any of the current froyo roms. Anyone got any ideas on how to resolve this?
I have tried hidden wifi enabler and even added it separately, but it just says out of range when its sitting right next to the wireless router. With broadcasting on it connects with no problems.

I've done it in Vegan... what encryption are you using? I know there are issues with WEP...
using wpa2 I heard rumors that tkip doesnt work with it. This correct?
I got mine to connect running stock and TNT 4.4 but it wasn't easy. I intially went into wifi setting and "add a network" typed in the SSID (not being broadcast) and password (WPA2/TKIP) and it would find the network but not connect. I did some searches and found various suggestion but none worked.
After a lot of failed attempts I got frustrated and turned off wifi on the tablet and then turned it back and suddenly it connected with no problems. It may have been a one off thing but couldn't hurt to try it.
nik
Ill give this a try and see what happens. But I am not getting my hopes up.
Just out of curiosity.....
What's the point of connecting to non-broadcasting router?
It's like turning on WiFi in the middle of desert?
JMO.....
turn on ssid bdcst. connect then turn bdcst off.

If your wireless router doesn't broadcast it's SSID, others can not attempt to access it.
My Stock 3588 connects fine
I have a non broadcasting router in my home and stock 3588 on my gtab. Did the connection once when I bought the tab and it has been connecting just fine for couple months now!

So not even close to true
Using a non-broadcast SSID as a security measure is probably the weakest (well...next to no encryption at all) method available.

Using a Linux PC, I can see ALL available wireless APs with this command:
Code:
iwlist wlan0 scan
Hiding the SSID is not even considered to be a security option, it is that poor. Save yourself some trouble and let it broadcast the SSID.

Galaxy S2 is able to connect to wi-fi router but can't access Internet ??

hi,
I've linksys wi-fi router model WRT54GH in my home & it has a good amount of signal strength to cover entire area.
My recently bought galaxy S2 is able to identify linksys wi-fi access point & connects too with the IP assigned to it, also at wi-fi settings connected being displayed.
Now when I try to access Internet (any url google/FB), it doesn't connect at all.
I tried almost everything about router configuration, restart etc. but with no success
can someone plz help on this ?

In my case the problem was with frozen "WiFi sharing" in combination with juicy defenders "Location" fearure. It seems such combination is dangerous. Solutin (in my case):
1. defroze
2. remove all wifi networks
3. reboot (for "clean" frozing)
4. make WiFi sharing frozen
5. reboot again just for fun
Try to check your router's MAC address restrictions. In my router, as security, I have to add MAC addresses of each device to share internet. They take IP's, connects etc. but does not have accesses to internet
as above, check that there is no MAC filtering set up.
one other thing it may be is the security settings, if you have a WEP Key to access the router it may need the Hex conversion of your key depending on what level of security you have (64bit or 128bit for example)

Try setting up a static IP address for your phone, I presume your network is a 192.168.1.0, go into router settings and LAN setup, give your phone the address in a static DHCP assignment of 192.168.1.5, or any other address in the same subnet your in. Some SGSII's have problems with dynamic DHCP for some reason, some NS had the same problem too,

I have a similar problem and I fix mine temporarily by turning my wifi off, then in wifi settings > advanced, I change wifi sleep policy from 'never' to 'only when the screen is off'. However I have to do this every time I want to use wifi so it can become quite annoying sometimes.
So I can get through however only for a short period of time as it seems as long my Galaxy S2 keeps turning off my wifi even though it's on :/
I had exactly the same issue on Linksys E4200 with my laptop, could connect to network, even to router's attached storage, but not to internet. Restart helped
On SGS2, I couldn't connect to the router at all at first, but fixed this by switching from WPA2/WPA mixed mode access protocol to WPA2 private. But I guess this is not exactly your issue.

Thanks for the suggestion but MAC restriction is already disabled at router

Yes, you are right this is not an issue for me.
In fact my SG2 being assigned with an IP address from 192.168.1.xx subnet.
Also at a same time my laptop connected with an IP from same subnet able to ping SG2.

My SG2 being assigned with an IP address from 192.168.1.xx subnet.
So I think IP addressing may not be an issue.
Also another thing I tried was, at a same time my laptop connected with an IP from same subnet able to ping SG2.
So wi-fi router may not be an issue here, whats say ???
Even I am facing the same issue at my office network. I am able to connect to the wireless network but if I try to access any app I cannot browse. This is really frustrating looks like some issue with the modem drivers.
I was able to browse on another wifi created virtually by mobile tethering. This looks like a major bug with the current firmware. Another interesting thing to note is that the Wifi network has a hidden SSID and uses WPA2 auth scheme.
I have seen a Galaxy S able to connect to the same n/w without any issues.
Has anyone figured out a solution to this one ?
Hi, thanks for your reply.
I am yet to figure out a solution for this
Even I am also agree on the probable issue with modem driver.
I've D-link modem.
Are you aware of anything about this modem that can be reconfigured to get this worked ... ?? pl let me know
The wifi router at my office is Cisco Aironet 1200 Series, anyone else facing this issue ?
I'm having the same problem at work connecting my SGS2 with v2.3.3 Official Firmware (customized for Orange service provider) to a Cisco Aironet 1130 AP. I can see that the Galaxy authenticates with the AP correctly and gets IP from the DHCP server, but it cannot send or receive any traffic, although the phone stays connected and authenticated. At home, I use an Atheros based Fonera with DD-WRT without any problem.
As I'm the company's network administrator, I will try to further investigate this problem, but it seems like some kind of incompatibility between the devices or misconfiguration ....

try turn off the wifi, turn off the mobile data and turn on the wifi again
It seems the SGS2 sometimes has problems with DNS.
Try a static IP and use 8.8.8.8 as second DNS server, which is a free Google DNS server.
This fixed MY problems
I rooted my SGS2 and voila wifi worked at my office finally I have been able to find a solution.. love my SGS2 the Beast...
I'm having this same problem..
I think I've tried all the solutions above, but one (Sorry - noob question):
Rooted?
is there a firmware patch or something that I should know about?
Anyone got any other ideas?
ETA:
I can connect to hotspots (DHCP) and at home (Have to set it to static tho)
No internet
AP works - Laptop and i8910 (had to set static and advanced settigs etc). I've rebooted it a few times, set DHCP on and off. DHCP seems to be running on the router

This is an issue with SGS2 with wifi server using authentication protocol TPIK, if you use AES as encryption then it will work without any issues.
That should be a setting in my AP? I can't see it...
If I get a new non-crappy AP is that likely to solve my problem?
ETA:
Ah - that's a WPA thing? Mine only seems to do WEP - is that right?

[Q] Tab won't find my wi-fi

I seem to be having some problems with my tab gray 16 gb wifi version.
When i started it for the first time it could not find my wifi, i went ahead with setup and when i was finished i looked into wifi settings and it had found my router.
A few days went by and all of a sudden i was connected to the router but had no internet connection, I checked my computer which was connected by wire and it had internet connection. I then tried to switch wifi on and off on the tab and since then i cannot find my router.
I've tried rebooting both router and tab and it has not resolved the problem. Anyone else experiencing these issues? Any solutions? I thank you all in advance.
btw the router is a D-link dir-655

Unplug the router and plug it back in. I have experience this issue as well. My desktop was able to connect to the Internet. But my laptop won't connect through wireless. Not even my wireless printer. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and it works fine. Sometimes, it's other way round.

I have the same router and I don't have any problems connecting. I did have many problems with my OG Droid phone connecting though, until I switched from WEP to WPA encryption.
Can you see the router on your Tab, but it just won't connect? Or is it not visible at all?
I have tried unplugging the router leaving it unplugged for 30 sexonds or so and then plugging it back in, no luck. And no I cant even see the router, I see lots of routers but not mine, I can connect to my phone using mobile access point but just not my router
Does your router use a hidden SSID?

This might sound funny, but do you have anything else connected to the WiFi? My router sometimes does this same exact thing and it happens to do with the traffic going through it. It happens alot when I'm using my laptop and my Xbox 360 and I turn off my Xbox for some reason. The way that I've always found that fixes it, is by rebooting all my connected devices along with rebooting my router. It's as if their is a conflict with the connections that make it not work.
No hidden SSID and at the moment nothing is connected to my router wireless
edit: Solution! logged in to my router switch of wi-fi, turned it back on, enabled wpa2 security and there it was right on my tab, welcome back old friend
I had the same problem, but solved it by changing locale setting on my router from Czech Republic (where I live) to USA.
figure out how many devices are connected to your router. My router can hold only five devices at a time. Also change the channel in your router settings.
good to know problem is solved

[Q] WiFi issues

Hi,
I have the following issues with my Razr:
1. When connecting to my home network, sometimes the WiFi logo won't turn blue. This causes google talk to be unable to sign in. However the phone is connected to the network, internet browsing with Dolphin and Market work fine. Rebooting fixes the issue, when connecting now the WiFi logo turns blue as soon as connected and all is good.
2. I can't connect to my university's wifi: it is an 802.1x secured with PEAP and uses MSCHAPV2. When I set up the connecting (which i have to do manually by long pressing network -> modify settings) it fails to connect (says connecting to... then Disconnected). Weird thing is when modifying the network again, the settings are screwed up (e.g. set to use TLS, MSCHAPV2 unselected).
Does anybody have any ideas what to do about these (except for waiting for an update?) I am using the 651.73.18-version, so not updated so far...
Also, WiFi strength seems rather crappy with the Razr, i'm only getting ok signals where i used to get good ones with my desire and fail to connect when my cheap hp netbook connects fine...
Thanks lots for any help!!

[Q] Loosing wifi network connection after a while.

I am using SHOStock 3 3.0.2 on my i777.
I just changed my router (TP-LINK TL-WDR4300 with DD-WRT running) and strange thing began happening.
When I connect my phone to Wi-Fi everything works as usual, then after a while (maybe about an hour?) no connection to network at all.
WiFi signal is strong, has IP Address assigned, router sees the device. But, cannot ping in or out. No connection to network at all.
If I disconnect from WiFi and connect again, it works for a while, then same thing happens again.
No other WiFi device in my home is having that problem.
Any ideas what might be the cause, anything I can try?

I'd do a factory reset first to isolate whether it's your phone or your router causing the problem.
