[Q] Root & Rom --> Bell Atrix - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
My atrix on Bell is just a couple days old.
Is the process to root and use the adeo custom roms exactly the same as the AT&T atrix?
If not, is there anything different or a thread someone can refer me to?
Thanks,

i am sure that you can root it the same way as at&t atrix cuz I bought an bell atrix and i did root it using the same steps. not sure for rom.

You can use aRoot but I would hold off on Adeo and any other mods to the ROM until they are confirmed Bell compatible

I agree, wait a while so the devs can test stuff for the bell version. GingerBlur should be out soon for bell version.

hi guys,
has gingerblur come out for bell atrix?

Rooting Moto Atrix
I just got my Bell Atrix about two weeks ago, I rooted it yesterday using a nice little software called "supper one click" it has options for root, unroot, and non-market apps. there is a vid on YouTube that will show how yo do it ( super easy ) I can't add the link but if you google "rooting Motorola Atrix" it will be the first one.
I'm not sure if it is the best way to go but it worked perfect for me (please donate to developer for his hard work!)
As for the ROM I'm going to wait for more feedback ! bricks are nice to build a house not for a phone

Unless it was updated, Super One Click is technically not the best way to root your Atrix as it was built off of other phones' codes and not fully from the Atrix's so there are some unwanted codes. Super One click included a busybox script, which the Atrix already had. So in essence you have 2 busybox scripts on your phone and it can do some unwated things when you use SU. I don't remember the issues of having 2 busyboxs on your phone. aRoot by DG was designed for the Atrix but DG left supporting the Atrix. At that time, DG recommneded everyone that used the Super One Click to reroot with aRoot. The best way to root atm is Gladiroot from Reiral.

is there any way to unroot for bell users yet?
i know with us users, you can flash the stock rom...

What root method did you use? There should be an unroot method in the rooting folder (or whatever) when you rooted. If you used Gladiroot then post in that thread and have ririal help you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060

Yea, ririal said he would add an unroot option if we wanted it.
That aside, I had to do a factory reset and it unrooted my atrix bell... of course an option in the gladroot script without needing factory reset to unroot would be great regardless

hi everyone, i'm new on this forum but i know what your doing in here since a year. Today i try to root my atrix from bell to gingerblur, it worked (not the frist time) i did a restore to factory default and it came back to gingerblur and worked for the frist time. now i'm trying to go back to the original version of my atrix because the internet is not working, probably because it's a rom that was done for at&t. Well i'm trying and can't go back. i did a bckup with recovery, root with gingerbreak and install gingerblur...
thank you if someone can help me if not well that's for trying
Dave
sorry for my english i'm french

After some search over internet, i set bell's apn back and everything seem to work ok, the home button is not working i don't know if it' only me. Just tell me if you are having the same issues.
Thank you
Dave

I don't know the answer about OTA updates after rooting, but to be honest, I'd be surprised if another OTA update ever happens for the Hero.

Oh ok n also I was readi thru my phone n it shows that what he's doin is instalin a costum rom n wouldn't do erase everythin on my phone?
Yes, installing a custom ROM would erase everything on your phone (although he also instructs you on how to do a nandroid backup of your previous setup). However, if all you want to do is root the phone you can do that without having to do any of the other stuff. Just download, install, and run Universal Androot as instructed in that thread, and you should have root without doing any other changes to the phone or your data.
Unfortunately rooting the T-Mobile G2 Touch isn't as simple as rooting a standard Hero GSM, T-Mobile made it quite difficult. I would suggest following this thread or using this tool
And if you don't install a custom rom or a rooted stock rom, your recovery will be overwritten, and you'll lose root on the first reboot.
The unrooted stock rom overwrites the recovery when rebooted.
Correct me if I'm wrong

Good point, I think you right in which case you will need to install a rooted stock ROM at the very least, which would mean wiping all your data
Sorry, I didn't know the G2 required a different rooting method.
Anyways, on my standard unlocked Hero I did not loose root when rebooting on the stock ROM, although as you said it did overwrite my recovery. I do not know if this is the case on the G2.

T-Mobile did some pretty nasty stuff security-wise compared to the standard GSM Hero so rooting is a bit different. As for what happens on reboot I can't comment, but I would recommend using a custom ROM anyway, something like [email protected]'s MCR is great for someone who just wants it working like stock but with better performance. You should be able to add something like FlyKernel to it for the overclock.

Agreed. Once you go custom, you won't go back.

Please, switch to G2 forum from now on, as this thread is offtopic in this one.
sucessful tmobile G2 temp root using VISIONary r14 this morning!
I tried ROOT on my new tmobile G2 (GSM) I bought last week. I tried Universal Androot AND z4root and neither worked to get even temp root.
This morning, I used VISIONary r14 and sucessfully gained su root and disabled a few of the branding and blotware apps on MY phone! I still haven't been able to uninstall them completely, but at least they aren't starting automatically on boot. Here's the link that worked:
android.modaco.com/content/software/320350/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/
these branded apps are WAY annoying! I'm not good with outfits like facebook and twitter having access to all my personal info and data, including fine GPS location!! and I can hardly believe tmobile imbedded these apps as they did. I'm still within my 14-day trial and may still return the phone because of this unless I can be sure I can get these apps OFF my back!

Atrix and Greyblur

I have an atrix at&t version 4.1.57
This is the second one I have as I bricked my first (thankfully I got another one for free).
I don't want to butcher this process so could someone please walk me through the process of getting greyblur (or if there's a better firmware please let me know) on my phone - my atrix hasn't been rooted.

Hey, I'm pretty sure you have to be rooted to install roms. Just follow the installation guide it's alot easier than it seems.
PS: I have GingerBlur and its great and the guide is for both GingerBlur and GreyBlur. Hope this helps.
Should I update to the latest OTA before I root or what?
For GreyBlur you are good with 1.5.7 according to its website but you need 1.8.3 for GingerBlur. Have you not gotten the OTA for 1.8.3 yet?

This ROM works with the HD multimedia dock?
Hello, I have an AT&T rooted Atrix with original ROM in 4.1.5.7; so I think I'm a candidate to test this ROM. I have two questions:
1) I saw that HDMI mirroring is integrated in the ROM; will this work ok with the HD multimedia dock?
2) Is this ROM including WiFi proxy support?
Thanks!

You need to update to 4.1.83. And I'm pretty sure it works with the dock because the hack just changes what happens when you plug in the HDMI cord. And the proxy thing I have no idea... lol

Questions about the OTA Update/Rooting

I got my phone a couple weeks ago, and been reading up on bootloaders, fastbooting, unlocking, and rooting.
it all seems kinda confusing.
so far i've used adb to get my webtop working through hdmi anywhere, and used gingerbreak to root.
well now i just updated to gingerbread with the OTA update they released yesterday, and lost root and my webtop access anywhere.
what i'm wondering is how would i go about rooting this update now?
also, how do i use fastboot? do i need to be unlocked? if so how do i unlock without bricking my phone?
basically my goal is to be rooted and have webtop access again.
i'm stock with the OTA update from yesterday.
thanks
The XDA geniuses helped me through it this morning. Step by step here.
well i got rooted using alternative methods.
now i gotta figure out how to get my webtop back

[Q] Is it worth installing NottachTrix4G?

I'm thinking on installing NottachTrix4G on my ATT Atrix. It's currently rooted, and unlocked, running 4.5.91.
I can't seem to find any reviews or recommendations for NottachTrix4G.
Can anyone comment on their experience with it, if you already have it? Also, is there an install guide somewhere?
Thanks
Welcome to the forums! Read the actual thread for Nottachtrix. The developer is very much so respected, and has a huge number of fans that use his ROM, your best bet is to just give it a shot and use it for a day or two to see if you like it. Don't forget to nandroid back up your current setup before wiping anything that way you you can very easily switch back if you are dissatisfied. All it takes is a SEARCH, figured I would be the nice one before you get flamed with a million "Use search!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" replys
Info
There is some info about Nottach Trix on here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430608
and here:
http://www.nottachtrix.com/index.html
Also if you used and liked Darkside and/or Wet Dream you are 95% likely to enjoy Nottach Trix.

I moved from Wet Dream to Nottachtrix. So far, I've found the rom to be completely solid, all features working as advertised and without glitches on my end. At whatever point he releases his compatible ICS theme, I'll be a very happy camper.
About the most painless way to get up to 4.5.141, I'd say!

Unlocked bootloader, rooted, the dev post says Wet Dream was 4.5.140. Had to back up apps and SMS data, obviously, but you don't have to "get your phone back to stock" in order to flash this rom -- just make a nandroid backup and give it a shot.

Its very nice rom the wayt it comes and you can choose what you want to add or remove its really great you should try it.
You can also go in and freeze more processes as well and right now man i got about 520 mb free and scoring around 6300 on antutu.
Its not like cm7 builds but you can use webtop and an alternative if you want to stack stock mainly for me its because i use my webtop.
try it it's pretty cool
I thought wet dream was awesome, this ROM is even better. I just downloaded it today and no complaints.
+1 for you to download.

Previous State
ROOT, UL BL, 2.3.4/4.5.91, Alien ROM
I accidentally hit the update option when it popped up on the screen instead of hitting later. Then I the wifi off on my phone and that prevented the update from being downloaded. I tried to do a couple of things to prevent it from downloading
1. Freezing Upgrader 2.3.4 using TiBu - This did not work.
2. Using CWM - Cleared cache etc and this did not do the trick either.
So, I finally gave up and used UncleCemka's guide to upgrade to 4.5.141 (2.3.6) and it was successful.
So, present state
ROOT, UL BL, 2.3.6/4.5.141, Stock.
Can I flash NottachTrix4G? The thing I miss the most is the WebTop over HDMI

Yes. It'll work fine. It doesn't mess with the webtop partition, so you'll need to re-do the HDMI exploit or flash the 2.3.6 webtop fruitcake which has that fix worked in.

Here you go. It's the Fruitcakes thread over in the dev forum.
now: you took the OTA update, which I'm pretty sure updated your webtop as well. The webtop fruitcake says 4.5.140; this may or may not be precisely the same version as your current one. With that in mind, I might try redoing the webtop-over-HDMI hack first since it's a pretty simple procedure and keeps your current version intact.

[Q] Root Atrix 4g WITH 4.5.145 system update

I have never rooted my phone before, and I'm not "techy" at all. I have searched far and wide, and everyone who has rooted theirs AFTER the 4.5.145 update had previously rooted their phone.
I would like to find a pre-install method, I don't want to wipe anything off my phone. I just want to gain access.
I have been having the wifi/bluetooth problem that seems to be common with this update. I also get random reboots. If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know. I've heard I have to flash it to 4.5.141 after I root it? I don't know. I'm completely lost!
The preinstall method works with all firmware versions.
