[Q] Charging - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was just curious if the TB is charging like the Evo where it charges up to 100 and then shuts off the charger until it hits 90%? I havent had a chance to do a full charge yet.

I had the opportunity to charge to full overnight. Pulled it off the charger and it was at 100%. 30 minutes later, it was at 99%. This is the only phone I've had that doesn't show the issue with shutting the charger off at 100%.

Okay but it should be at 100 and then when I turn it off, should I charge it too?
Charge to 100%. Reboot into CWM with the charger plugged in. Wipe Battery Stats and reboot. After that unplug your charger and you will most likely have less than 100%.
(2) Plug the charger back in and let it fully charge again to 100%. Run it down to 5%, then charge it back up again to 100%. Rinse and repeat (2) 3 times. Your duration between charges will get longer each time.
Always has worked for me on any Android.
Try to time it so the FULL charges are through the night to avoid interruption in the process. I know I have a hell of a time not touching my phone for 2 -3 hours while it is charging. Lol.

This is what I was looking for. Thank you!

How long?

If you charge your vibrant from 0% how long does it take to reach 100%. Mine takes well over 4 hours, so just wondering if its just mine.

im not sure because i have spare battery so i havent really paid attention but id say thats about right.
Hmm... A friend of mine who owns a captivate says that his phone charges within 2 hours. Captivate too has the same 1500mah ago why the different charging times?

wall charger is 2-2.5 hours
Charging off Computer usb 4-4.5 hours the usb puts out less about 200mv so it takes longer
Well it all depends on whether your phone is on and how much you use it while its plugged in.

I usually plug in the phone and leave it until it charges to 100.
Edit: I use a motorola charger (dunno which phone) and its output is 5v(850ma) and I use a ac to dc converter as we don't have ac plug sockets in here. Does this make any difference?

Battery left widget can tell you exactly how long
My phone takes forever to charge. I have had a MT3G and a Gtab and they both charged within 2 hours or so. The Vibrant takes about 4 hours. Heck, my laptop will charge to full in less than two hours.
~2-3 hours. Though I usually charge it overnight and it's never a problem. Most times at the end of the day its around 80-90%
(I charge it while driving around, used for car profile detection)
4-5 hours to charge completely. Samsung phones are notorious for slow charging.

So its not just mine. I normally charge during day (vacations yippeee) as I've been using my phone extensively and 4 hours during day means I can't take my phone with me when I hang out with friends, even if I do get it out it does out easily (cuz I'm a heavy user).

It's really slow for me too and I have been wondering the same thing.
I think it takes around 3-4 hours to fully charge on a wall charger.
With the phone switched off it charges much faster in around 2 hours I guess.
It takes me 4 hours even if it its switched off..

I downclock my processor to 400 and about an 2 hours tops. Also screen is off and super power is installed.

Battery Lost 40%

So I was overclocking my Atrix 4g and benching it using Faux123's 1.45 Ghz kernel. CF Bench caused it to overheat and restart every time so I did the stupid task of putting it in the freezer (Yes the thing on top of a Refrigerator). And I didn't just put it in the freezer I put it near the part where the fan blows in the cold air. Apparently that wasn't a good idea since my phone suddenly Jumped from 60% battery to 19%. Basically loosing 40% of its charge. Followed by a FC and Reboot.
That night I wen't to sleep and plugged it into an AC charger, it was charging for about 12+ hours. And now my phone won't charge over 60% (Kind of makes sense with the 40% battery loss) and wont go past 1109 mAh ( it's a 1930 mAh battery).
My question is: Have I ****ed up 40% of my battery forever or this something that can be fixed. Note: I have already tried wiping the battery stats.
Try to take out your battery and plug your phone into a wall charger, after that place your battery back into your phone and let it charge

Thanks for the reply.
Should I wait until it has drained or not?
Shouldn't make a difference
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
If that doesn't work, try recalibrating the battery...

Thanks guys I managed to fix it by plugging it in without battery and then putting it in. however it.still showed 50% so.I went into recove.and cleared.battery stats and now its.at 100%

Staying plugged in after its charged?

Does it hurt the battery if the phone stays plugged in after its charged?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
nope, it does not hurt the battery.
Ok. It would just be nice if it would stay on 100% for awhile after I take it off.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
That's because once it tops off at full 100% it stops charging until it drops itself to either 98% or 98%, then it starts charging again. Even if it says 100% unplug the charger for a moment then reconnect it again and wait until the phone says its done charging again. 100% will last a lot longer.

Battery Not Completely Charging

Has anyone had an issue charging their phone to 100%? My phone seems to get stuck at 99%.
I haven't noticed it but in the past with other devices, I could drain all the way down and charge up to full to fix.

Are you using the phone while charging?

I was at first, but I couldn't get it to fully charge even when it was powered off.

Well it takes a while when at 99%, but don't touch it while it's on and wait for it to top off. It's probably trickle charging at 99%.

I read here somewhere that from 99% to 100% took about 20-30mins. It could be a firmware thing or they can be doing what Apple is doing so you don't overcharge it.

It's possible, that's how long it takes for mine.

I've had my one for three days now and I've charged it twice, the first time it took about three hours to charge and Ya it took a long time for it to go from 99-100 percent the second time it seemed to go quicker...just what I've experienced.

Mine stops charging at 90%. Its weird.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
It charges and discharges to conserve the life on the battery. If the phone was kept on a 100% charge the whole time then that would decrease the life of your battery drastically.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I wouldn't worry about it. It's better to keep it at less than 100%. If there was a manual settings threshold, I would keep them as start charging when below 70% and stop at 90%. This is my battery charge threshold setting on my Thinkpad X230T laptop.
