How to CM 6.1 MMS apk install - Atrix 4G Themes and Apps

*known bugs* May send text message to wrong recipient. I have not had this happen yet, but it has been reported.
I have attached the MMS.apk that I used for this. If you have an updated MMS that you want to try go for it. Also if anyone has the cm 7 MMS and can get it working let me know. I couldnt extract it and get it to work. I got this mms from a ROM someone made for the captivate. I only use it for the long multiple vibrate notification for text messages that I often miss when I am at work due to the noisy factory conditions I work in.
Method for install
1. Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine the mms to your phone. Alternately you can put the mms.apk on your phone and just install it from there, but it requires sideloading to be enabled, although if you have it rooted, you probably have sideloading enabled too.
2. Uninstall the "Text messaging apk" using titanium back, or root explorer. *requires root*
The old apk is called text messaging apk in titanium backup. Not sure the exact file name(text.messaging or whatever) as I have deleted it already.

Thanks for this. Stock mms is the best IMO. Speedy and stable

I have been really wanting to do this, but I am not seeing mms.apk anywhere on the phone itself. I am guessing motorola calls its mms app something different? I have the new one on the SD card ready to go, but I don't know where the old one is to backup/freeze in the meantime.
Edit: Maybe it's conversations.apk?

You're right, it seems to be called Text Messaging in TiBa, I don't see an actual file when using root explorer, but freezing "text messaging" in TiBa and installing this mms.apk is working perfectly. Thanks for your help

This MMS apk still has the pre 2.3.2 SMS bugs.

Well that's not good. Ill ask around in the captivate forum for a newer version. I get a parsing error when I try to pull it out of the update file on cyanogenmod. I even tried swapping out the cert files within the apk itself and I still cant get the newer apk to install. I will update the op.

Gingerbread 2.3 Email Works with Nero 4.1 & Axura

I installed Nero 4.1 but I completly hate the stock email app. The orange glow at the top is terrible looking. I tried the Galaxy Tab email app that was ported to the correct size, but I was getting connection issues shortly after installing it and no new emails would come in (loved the look though).
I found this Gingerbread email.apk on xda (does have exchange security code taken out) and used root explorer to transfer it to System /App. I then cleared the email data from applications and setup my company's exchange account. This email app looks so much better than stock and completly matches the Gingerbread theme. I dont know why this isnt used as the stock email app for new builds. So far this is working without any issues. Just thought I should share.
I have attached screenshots but have blocked out any email addresses and last names of the emails.

Update: Installed Axura 2.2.6.0, Gingerbread 2.3 email app seems to be working on this build also.
Update: I have attached the stock Nero email.apk in case any body has issues and needs to revert back.

The attached email.apk in the link you reference was accidentally deleted per the OP - can you re-post it here or there?
I downloaded the Email.apk and used Astro to install it. It failed and then I
uninstalled 2.2 and then tried again and this time it says application not
installed. Do I have to use Root Explorer or ADB to push it? I have used
Astro to install a few apps such as market and did not get any problem.
In addition, the file size, data size and total size are all shown as 0. But the
downloaded apk is indeed 1.7m in size.
update: Used root explorer to paste the app to /system/app and it worked.

Go to System/App using root explorer and rename the email.apk to email.apk.old. Then copy the Gingerbread email.apk to system/app. You will then need to go to settings/application/manage applications and clear the data on Email. Next time when you launch the email app it will ask you to input all your info and your done. This isnt a apk that you install. It has to be pushed to the system/app folder using root explorer.

I had installed Gingerbread Email.apk a while ago. However, the HTML hyper links inside email are not clickable. Sometime, I receive email messages which have hyper link. It was a pain not able to click on the link directly inside the mail. I like Galaxy Tab modified email better then stock version from Froyo, or Gingerbread.
That's so weird because I can click on hyperlinks that are in my emails.

Does the GB email support push notification?
Anyone try this on Bionix V yet? Or does anyone know if its compatible? I would nandroid and try it myself but I'm busy at the moment. If not I'll try later and letyou guys know.
So far working fine on Overstock v2.2.1 / Simply Honey Pro Edition v1.0
This also fixed my problem of no notification sound playing when receiving my work emails

Issue: MMS photo is seen as video

So my issue is when my wife's iPhone sends me a MMS photo the Atrix thinks its a video. It won't open it up full screen and actually has a play button and runs it as if it is playing a video.
Any ideas why? Anyone else notice this?
This is with ALL Android phone I have had to date. It shows as if a slideshow. You have 5 secs to view a picture, if more are attached it 5 secs per photo. So if someone send you 3 pictures in 1 mms then you have to watch for @ least 11 seconds to see all 3 pics. Thats just Android in general.
Third party messaging apps such as handcent do not behave this way so I don't understand why stock mms apps insist on doing so.

Long press on the message, and press View Image.
for this reason alone is why i use GO SMS instead of stock messaging app. it is the same way on my captivate and my G2
Why I find this so funny is it did not happen on my N1

I think it only happens when a manufacturer overlays their own UI like HTC Sense or MotoBlur. Nevertheless, it is an Android thing.
the bone stock mms apps don't do the slide show, and I dont mean bone stock as the ones that came with your phone that have HTC sense, motoblur, etc. etc
I mean the ones that came with pure android. N1, NS.
If you install the latest Gingerblur you get this functionality. No more slideshows.
Alternatively, ive attached the mms.apk that gingerblur installs. You gotta have root + sideloading capabilities.
rename /system/app/conversations.apk to conversations.apk.bak
copy mms.apk to /system/app
then just fire up your mms app as normal. It looks totally different. if you had the mms app on your homescreen it's now gone. you have to put it there again
I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS WILL WORK WITHOUT THE COMPLETE GINGERBLUR PACKAGE INSTALLED. ATTEMPT AT OWN RISK. although i don't really see the harm in it. if it doesn't work i would imagine just rename mms.apk to mms.apk.bak, and revert conversations.apk.bak back to converstaions.apk

Unfortunately a no go... this would be nice to have... think we can get this repackaged as a stand alone apk that we can install?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
You would have to ask a dev to get that done, such as kenneth, who made gingerblur. I don't have a clue how to do it other than what I outlined above, and from what you say it sounds like whatever other changes gingerblur makes are a prerequisite. Maybe suggest it in the dev forum?

[Q] text messages converting to mms

I have a o2 contract SGSII.
When I try and send a text message which is over 3sms in length, the phone converts it to a mms. This is annoying as I have to pay extra for mms whereas sms is included in my allowance.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Is there a way to stop it?
Thanks
Yup same thing here on Vodafone simfree phone. Be cool to get rid of this limit as I too get free sms but not mms!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
It is a known limitation of stock SMS Android application.
To get rid of this problem, use third party SMS apps, like Go SMS Pro (my favorite), Handcent SMS and many others.

Please please please Do!! Thanks in advance!
Many of us use sms a lot and i frequently send out long long long stories to my friends. Here in India while SMS is free for my carrier, MMS is charged!
So please help!
I like the stock app since it has a big field to write the messages, not just two or three lines unlike other.
Does any third party app have this?
Found what's causing it. Now just to figure out how to prevent it
Think it's fixed. I'll pop an experimental fix in VRTweaks for it in the XWKE2 ROM.
I set it to allow 9 SMS messages before making it into an MMS. Equally, I removed the 10 recipient limit and made it 200, for Christmas/New Year bulk texting
OK. Got a few files to test. Backup the files /system/app/mms.apk mms.odex. Delete MMS.odex now.
Then put these into /system/app/ and reboot. Let me know how it goes.
There's a couple to try. Give them a shot
Try first: www.villainrom.co.uk/SGS2/VRTweaks/XWKE2/TRYFIRSTmms.apk
Then if that fails, try: www.villainrom.co.uk/SGS2/VRTweaks/XWKE2/TRYSECONDmms.apk
Remember to rename to just "mms.apk" and let me know how it goes.
Downloading n flashing now gimmie some minutes,
EDIT:- Tried through Root Explorer would not let me install, must I push with ADB if so could you explain Iv'e forgotten how.

I have tried the files you have links to, but when rebooting the message app completely disappears.
When I revert to the backup files and reboot the messaging app comesback again.
@XenonAndroid you don't need to install just place files and reboot (I think).
If you have anymore files to try let me know.
Thanks for the effort!
The stock messaging app also opens mms images as videos for some reason
Is that fixable too?

Strange..
Can someone do a logcat so I can see reason for the failure to appear? You need to reboot and look in the log for "mms.apk"
The fix will work, but I need to work out how to get round signature issues
thanks .. we are waiting
When you send a group sms to over 5 people it sends it as a sms for me (no charges) but all the people recieving it got it as an mms :/

Was that using this tweak, or with the stock ROM?
@pulser
I just wanted to clarify i was doing things correctly. This is my first android phone so excuse the noobiness.
I backed up the original mms.apk and mms.odex files.
Then i copied tryfirstmms.apk to system/app. Renamed to Mms.apk (the original had a capital M i dont know if its case sensitive). Then i deleted mms.odex.
Then reboot.
Root explorer gave me the option to install the mms.apk but when i tried it gave me a 'program was.not installed' message.
After the reboot the message app disappeared from the applications screens.
I will try and do a logcat but im just reading up about how to do it.

Sounds fine to me. No need to try to install the APK though... You just need to put it in the folder and reboot the phone You can restore your backups for now to be able to send messages, as I will explain...
I think this will only get fixed when I release VillainROM for the SGS, as I need more control over the system than I can get right now
This fix should work, but Android's security is rejecting the application due to signatures. I know how to fix it, but you need to use a different ROM base which I've been working on here

Only MMS unable to Send/Recieve

I found this solution on the cm7 forum for the htc evo stable mod, thanks to atyler, (forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/19827-mms-not-sending-with-cm7-rc4/[/url]).
oesjmr wrote:
Since upgrading to CM7 RC4 from RC2, I haven't been able to send any MMS messages. I select a photo to send via Messaging from my gallery and hit send, but it doesn't send. If I exit from the person I'm trying to send to and go back to them, the photo and message are sitting there not sent. I'm using the standard messenger that comes with CM7 and do not have Google Voice set to do texting. Anyone else having this issue or know something I can try to fix this? Thanks!
atyler responded:
I had the same problem on 2 different versions of CM on 2 separate phones. This fix worked both times. Use root explorer, and make sure it is set to R/W mode (read/write). Navigate to:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db and delete that file, then restart your phone. After the restart, you should be able to send and receive MMS messages.
It worked for me!
I'll second this....had the MMS issue on any GB ROM....tried this fix and it immediatelu worked fine. I will add that I DID NOT delete the original telephony just renamed it OLD_telephony.db and rebooted. Same net effect but kept the original file out of an abundance of caution.
Awesome, couldnt figure out how to fix this, thanks
I use the one click flash here for GB, and im loading a sense based rom now and I will try this and see if it works for it .
and good point on the rename in case of fail..
Thanks
don't work with me

[Q] Replaced mms.apk, every new incoming message gets put in new thread. Any fix?

Hello xda people.
So I tried installing both the 4.1.2 apk from AOKP rom and the 4.1.1 from some defualt rom. I got the messaging part working with both .apk's. My problem however is that when I replace them every new incoming message gets put into a new thread in the message app.
How would I go about to fix this?
More editing: I wasn't 100% clear, but what I want was the android messaging app, not the samsung one. I also figured it could be that I have to replace the contact.apk as well? Like always, any input would be nice.
I did remove the stock app with titanium backup for those who might be interested in doing the same.
Also: I'm doing this because I want the emoji support in the default app without having to use a custom sms app.
I'm running Omega v31.1 so using the stock 4.1.1 samsung sms app I would presume

Up. Same thing here. I'm running the stock Samsung ROM, and I've tried replacing SecMms.apk with almost all mms.apk's I've found on xda-dev. Always the same issue, although it does happen only for some contacts, not all. For some contacts, it's indeed reusing an old thread, as it's supposed to.
UP
I have the same issue...stock rooted galaxy s3 android 4.1.1
I have tried alla MMS.apk 4.X+ version but everytime the same error
btw gs3 4.1.1 ita
The alleged fix is to add international codes to all your numbers. I tried this using number fixer. It worked for about 5 hours then messages started creating new threads again. Very annoying, ended up going back to GoSMS
I tried this too....everyone have a fix for everything here, so thought that someone fixed this
Same problem here, any suggestions?
same here.what a pity some modded APK are realy nice
possible fix
hi,
try this..
everytime you create a message, use the contact app first to select the recipient from there you click the icon for messaging beside the mobile number. then, when the recipient reply it will thread to you original message.
