[Q] [RECOVERY] Updated ClockworkMod for ALL ROMs Rate This Thread - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I was trying to flash new ROM via CWM. However, cwm wasn't able to read the zip file saying something about script is not supported blah blah blah... Browsing thru xda forum, I found out that this problem has caused due to the cwm version(recently updated to cwm3.0.0.8) , or at least I want to believe it this way. So lastnight I ended up finding a thread started by jt1134 which I basically helped out lots of ppl who were struggling with similar problem as mine. But the thing is when I was trying to download the files, cwm-recovery-ALL.zip and cwm-recovery-ALL odin. The download links were broken giving me an error message. So guys, if anyone has the files I beg of you to share it pleaseeeeeeeee.
to shorten it down, the link is broken, I think. So if anyone has the files I beg of you to share it thank you..............

Hello jjalhjy
I will make this easy for the both of us!
Direct your browser to this link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999802
Once there scroll down to the 5th post (#5) where I linked both the page you referenced (broken links) and a link to a working download of the ".tar" file (was earlier! ).
If you need the .zip file scroll down to post 9 (#9) where I have linked it.
A quick guide to getting you flashed.
*note* I am assuming you cannot use .zip files due to the incompatible script error! This is for using odin.
1. Put phone in download mode via the power menu if on superclean. If not turn off the power, pull battery, plug into computer, hold "down" on the volume rocker till the yellow triangle "download" screen appears
2. download the ".tar" version of cwr all
3. Launch odin
4. Click the PDA button and search for the ".tar" file and select it -> then hit "ok"
5. Run the file in odin, wait for the phone to reboot.
6. put your battery back in and test recovery mode to see how it looks!
*whew*
good luck!

Wow that was a fast reply! Thank you! A quick question tho, 1. Do you know if I have to uninstall ROMmanager and delete update.zip file in my sd card before I even start flashing via using odin. 2. After following your instruction step by step, and let's say if it works. Do I still need to download ROMmanager? 3. I remember reading someone's thread in xda saying it is always necessary to flash new cwm after flashing a ROM (I always have it done using ROMmanager but now things have changed, obvisouly. So yea, how would I flash new CWM after flashing a ROM from now?
Sorry if these questions sound so newbyyyy hehe and thanks again!

It is advised (so I have read) that you should not use ROM manager with the Fascinate. While it is a powerful tool, it is just not 100% Fascinate friendly yet. Also I have never had to remove/mess with the update.zip on my SD card. Heck as far as I know you can delete it after using ODIN with the new cwr-all.

No. I would use the Development Thread here in the fascinate section for your ROMS. ROM manager is just not made for us.....yet!

I personally have never done this. To the best of my knowledge (and real life experience) cwr-all (red version) is the current and most up-to-date version (for the Fascinate). Once I ODIN-ed over the cwr-all I have not updated it once. You should be fine to flash it and flash ROMs as you please!

Dude, thanks A LOTTTTTT

[KERNEL] ClockworkMod compatible kernel and ROM Manager support

Ok, here's official clockworkmod and ROM Manager support
For a full/better How To, click here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
This thread is a quick rundown, as well as a primer on how to create a proper clockwork compatible kernel.
First, use odin or redbend_ua to flash this kernel:
http://koush.tandtgaming.com//samsung/fascinate/zImage (you will need to package it accordingly for odin, I am lazy and did not do so, see the other thread)
Then, open up ROM Manager and flash recovery (choose Fascinate!).
All done!
Note, using reboot recovery or adb reboot recovery will take you to a "stock" recovery. Simply apply the update.zip on your SD card and clockworkmod will start up. (This method is better known as fakeflash)
Starting up recovery through ROM Manager will take you directly into clockworkmod.
How this works for those that want to develop on this further and create kernels that are ALSO clockworkmod compatible:
I extracted a initramfs from a stock recovery. I modified recovery.rc and fota.rc to allow adbd (and other small fixups). I modified default.prop to enable adbd and root shell. I replaced /res/keys with a test signed version to allow applying update.zip files.
Here is my fascinate initramfs:
http://github.com/koush/fascinate_initramfs
One can build clockwork directly into the kernel if they so choose. Simply take the update.zip on your SD card and pack those files into the initramfs as well. I chose not to do this because I am lazy.
i know this is irrelevant but i hope you can help
i flashed the CMWrecovery file --- i followed the steps to the dot .. and now my phone can't get signal and is rebooting insanely ... help!!!
i did not uninstall the ext2 lag fix - i did not see that in the steps --

Has anyone else tested this? I've yet to get it to boot, so I would caution those looking to install CWM to use the files found in the other thread until we can sort out what's up with this zImage..
i have this up and running with root and cw the only problems im having is my market wont load and it only gives me the "top free" tab and the "just in" tabs on the market...i can not see the top paid tab. i did a odin full restore (everything back to stock) then i rooted and flashed this anyone give me a had to why my market is funny? or how i have bad serves now?thanks to everyone for getting us cw!!

So you're saying you downloaded this specific zImage2 file, then tar'd it, then flashed it over your kernel and it worked? Did you use odin, or redbend?
Or did you just post for help on the bottom of this thread?

Yes, there's a difference. When I posted asking if anyone had gotten this to work, I meant the kernel Koush specifically provided above, in this post. I know in general CWM recovery works.
I would try posting in the thread where you obtained your files for help. That way there are people who are using the same kernel that might help.

turee that sorry. im noticing more and more problems like i dont have maps and missing apps here and there. thisis my fist time using odin and samsung...should i just odin back to stock everything and then try this recovery?
Alright...so I am confused now and I am not an Android noob....I see all the threads with how to flash the recovery and then this one....but I think we should have ONE thread that walks thru Rooting, flashing recovery etc....AND, in the first post, the instructions tell people how to pack files and etc., but a lot of people have no clue what that means...therefore, we need to have a "packed-ready" files for noobs. There are just a few too many botched phones.
As a noob myself, I think that sounds like a great plan.

Thanks, I saw that thread....but what I meant was, for a new person to see the following can be extremely confusing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787834

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787168

You know what I mean?
Can someone post a link on how to backup the original stock kernel via ODIN (or some other application) before I go ahead with this? I'd like to just be able to go back to the unmodified kernel if I want to. After a five minute search I couldn't even find a tutorial on ODIN.

Red voodoo cwr

Can I just flash back some how. I'm running 3.0
Same thing happened to me when I first rooted my Fascinate. There were many conflicting guides on how to get CWR on my phone and I ended up using ROM manager which put 3.0 on.
This link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
...will get you to the "red" CWR or CWR "all" as it is called in this thread.
I used the ODIN option.
Quick and easy. Plug phone in, put phone in to download mode *yellow triangle* (NOT RECOVERY), use the PDA option in odin, select the file, send it over, wait for it all to reboot, profit.
Hope that can point you in a better direction... I am by no means a dev, just went through the same thing!
are there any working links on this site? they all lead to dropbox and are broken.
Man... someone really needs to sticky a thread in the dev section with the essential files..... update.zip .... red cwm... etc.
yes, it's a real PITA trying to keep up with where to download them, and most of the links are broken. it would be much easier to manage in one thread.
You can find one about a third of the way through this post over on Android Central.
It doesn't actually say the version, but due to the name I'm (reasonably) certain it's the one you're looking for.
thanks, but that requires odin, which requires windows

I don't think the .zip would work either in that case? (which I haven't found a working link for anyway at this point)
Edit: and I was actually trying to help the OP. (surely the percentage of Mac-only owners isn't that high )
From what I recall, the red CWM could be installed from any other version of CWM if you download it in zip format and install it from the zip file within your current version of CWM. However, I'm not sure if that trick works with 3.0, now that they dropped support for the older scripting language. If you can use Rom Manager to revert back to an old green version of CWM, you should then be able to install the red version from a zip file on your SD card.

I use linux, I've "downgraded" cwr before from orange to red with the .zip. it was the only way I could get my eb01 installed. then the damn thing "upgraded" on me again.

So don't you have the .zip saved somewhere?
Btw, I would highly recommend not using Rom Manager at all, as it does not work with the custom red version of CWM necessary rom work with the Fascinate.

[Q] help a noob out!!

i have a fascinate that ive had for a while. ive managed to root it(took 4ever to find out how) but im rooted with everything else stock. no custom rom kernel or anything(i know im rooted cuz i can use wireless tether with superuser) HOWEVER, ive been reading on this cyanogen mod 7 and would really like to put this on my phone and get rid of touchwiz once and for all, and don't suggest adw it lags my phone down. can somebody plz give me a tutorial on how to download and flash whatever that is. i can't handle the sluggishness of tw anymore. btw i have odin but really don't know what to do with it. oh and sorry if this is already posted but ive searched and don't really feel like going through every thread in existence. please help me!!
Well before I would go and post a tutorial about this we need to address one thing.

You understand that the default launcher in Cyanogenmod7 (CM7) is ADW correct? I just would hate for you to go through the touch n go process of flashing CM7 and end up hating it because of this
Well... you can switch away from ADW. For instance, I switched to the GO launcher, and it ran like a dream.
Alright, here's a n00b guide.
0)Download these files to you SD card: http://www.mediafire.com/?dfjjclddzq6fl5q, http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip
1) Flash this in Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=657960&d=1310959789
2) Boot into recovery by turning off the phone/pulling battery and holding volume up, volume down and power at the same time
3) Select wipe cache, then select wipe data
4) Select install zip from sd card or something like that and flash CM7 (The file you downloaded from mediafire above)
5)Once phone finishes installing, hit reboot phone or if your phone is off turn it back on
6) Hold down power button, select reboot, select recovery
7) From here, select install zip from sd card again, and install the gapps from the second link.
8) Reboot, and enjoy. If you don't like adw, install GO launcher from the market

Install this on your computer: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?7946i8tdbe0yv50
Open Odin, remove your phone's battery, hold the "volume down" button on your phone while plugging it into your computer and a little android with a shovel should come up.
On your computer, download the file from step 1. In odin, click the PDA button (NOT THE PHONE BUTTON) and select that downloaded file. Hit start or flash or whatever the button like that says. It will take a while. Once done, you will have cwm, so do step 2.
Once in CWN, use the volume buttons to go up and down and use the power button as the "enter button". Follow the rest of the steps from there.
Also, GAPPS is just the technical name for that second file you downloaded. Install it through CWM exactly as the steps say.

Gapps...is abbreviated for google apps. Ie. Google talk, gmail, google voice, google chrome to phone, ect...this is a zip file package that contains a lot of googles apps that are not pre packaged into the rom
Odin is a software program for pc to push a modified recovery program or complete stock rom files, or patches and some other goodies and this recovery abbreviated cwm(clock work mod ) is the program you use to install custom roms and kernels. All odin file formats will end in .tar while files for flashing via recovery end in .zip

While skafan is right, you probably won't completely bork your device but you can get in deep real quick if you screw up anything major...like flashing a rom not for the fascinate. Go to the link he posted and do it exactly to return to complete stock and then read read read before flashing again, but it is very hard to completely destroy our phones besides physically smashing it. His warning is of just cause....that said..everything I learned(and I'm sure some will agree with me) for the most part is out of necessity..meaning I started tinkering with my phone and learned what I had to as I made mistakes and needed to know how to get out of a boot loop or force closes. There were even a few times where I thought I just turned my fassy into an expensive paper weight! You'll get there and, if nothing else borking builds character!

i followed those instructions to the letter, same result, success(0) failed (1)

Glad to know, that all ok! As for .md5 file - i think it's broken when file transfer to hosting... I try to upload .zip container with .md5 file inside.
If the checksum portion of the file is getting damaged somewhere between you and the user, is it possible something else is too. Even if it is something more or less inconsequential.

There just aren't many users responding that they've tried it and it works.
Purely a numbers game for me based on previous experiences with newly rooted tablets/phones.
Plus, I'm not fully understanding the complete instructions.
Is this TWRP only?
I guess we need root before installing this, but the only rooting method I've found installs CWM...does this overwrite CMW?
To answer the first question yes this does work I flashed it onto my Tab3 without any problem. Technically you should be able to use Odin to flash TWRP recovery and then use the root.zip file from DutchDanny's CWM thread to gain root access.

I'd agree with this. I personally used the CWM process, but using TWRP first, then root #SHOULD# work.
Somehow TWRP just doesn't seem smooth like it does on my phones and other tablet. I have to click stuff slowly and sometimes if I scroll too fast through a list for example to find a file to flash it takes me back to the main screen.
Is this just me or has anyone else noticed this?

Flash either this or cwm using Odin first and then you can install the root.zip from DutchDanny's recovery/root thread and run stock rooted or his custom ROM from that thread.

Boot into recovery by powering down the tab. Press the home button + volume up + power button and hold them. It should boot into twrp recovery. Install the root.zip from sdcard.
recovery_final.tar.md5 is cwm recovery instead of twrp. I like it better and use it, but even DucthDanny said once to use twrp to someone having an issue.
Hope this helps.

You just have to unzip the file from DutchDannys Bindroid site and you'll end up with a recovery file that ends in md5 which is the file to put in the pda slot.

Ace 2 baseband "XXXX" repair

Hi guys! This thread is for those who want to fix the baseband "XXXX" problem on their Ace 2. You can check your baseband number in "Settings"->"About phone"
If you think it's gonna take too much to do it, just feel free to look for another way to fix your problem, but the way I did it, I didn't have any problems, so it's your decision whether to do it or not.
So let's start:
Charge your battery before this. Use TriangleAway to reset the flashcounter, in case it's increased.
PART 1 (downgrade to GB) (Optional- you could skip to Part 2, but if the problem is still there, then it means the "modemfs" file will work only with this version of GB I uploaded bellow):
1. You have to downgrade to GingerBread, so download this: I8160XXLK6 and extract it.
2. Download Odin: Odin3_v1.83.zip Install your drivers as well, if you don't have them.
3. Turn on USB Debugging mode from "Developer options"
4. Enter "download mode" by long pressing vol down + home + power, then press volume up again when you see the warning screen.
5. Open Odin as admin
6. Connect your phone through the usb cable and wait till the ID:COM section turns yellow.
7. Click on PDA and choose "CODE_GT-I8160XXLK6_CL1211243_REV00_SEC_KEY_LK6_4G.tar.md5" from the extracted archive. For I8160P download this :CODE_GT-I8160P_I8160PXXLK2_CL1211774_REV00_user_SEC_KEY_XLK2_4G and put it at PDA after you extract it.
Click on CSC and choose "CSC_GT-I8160-MULTI-CSC-0XELF1_SEC_KEY_4G.tar.md5". Then click on PIT and choose “GT-I8160_EUR_XX_4G.pit”.
“Re-Partition”, “Auto-Reboot” and “F Reset Time” options have to be selected as well. (tick re-partition if you have a 3 files stock GB; don't tick it if you have a one file stock ROM--- these are the rules)
8. Click "Start" and wait till everything is finished.
9. Configure you device, till you get to the main screen.
10. Download flashable supersu update_su.zip and copy it to the external sdcard.
11. Enter recovery mode (vol up + home + power button), and click on "apply update from sdcard" (or something similar) and choose the "update_su" file
12. Reboot and after that, download "Android terminal emulator" from Google Play Store.
PART 2 (repairing the baseband). The "modemfs.img.md5" file was extracted from a GingerBread ROM so I don't know if would work if you tried to put it on a Jelly Bean. That's why I added "Part 1" above:
13. Download this Ace2modemfs.img.md5.zip and extract it.
14. Copy the extracted file ("modemfs.img.md5") to your sdcard (internal)
15. Now open the "Android terminal emulator"
16. Type in what is between the quotes: "su". Click on Grant (Allow, or whatever)
then "dd if=/sdcard/modemfs.img.md5 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2".
17. After that, close the terminal and reboot the phone. Go to settings-> about phone and check to see if you still have baseband "XXXX". if you don't, go to recovery mode and make a "wipe data".
After everything is finished use Samsung Kies to update to JellyBean. This way you'll be sure that you get the correct update.
With the exact same steps from above, I managed to fix my baseband. I'm not 100% that it will work for you too, but I'm 95% sure that it will. So follow the steps carefully and you'll be good.
If someone tried only PART 2 and worked on a Jelly Bean, just tell me and I'll delete the first part, which is basically a tutorial for GB downgrade.
I think that you can just install jb rom and after that from recovery the zip file.

What I said above was the method I tried and it worked. I'm sure there are other methods to do that but I haven't tried them cause this one worked for me.

hi i just got your pm i managed to fix this issue after searching for hours using the modemfs files fluffi444/djmaniac posted. id just like to add that going back to stock isn't 100% necessary. i restored a rom backup i recommend copying only the files you dont have in fluffi444 modemfs when i copied the whole modemfs file i kept getting random drops in reception i noticed a certain .cfg file didnt seem to have the correct permissions. hope this maybe useful to people with this annoying issue.
***Big thanks to fluffi444/djmaniac for providing modemfs files***
Thx for your work, dragos..
I think its good to put al this different ways together in one thread, if you don't mind.
For whom, who needs only the MODEM FS via CWM flashable zip you'll find my post on Android-Hilfe here:

I think by flashing with Odin a version of Jelly Bean 4.1.2 that wasn't for my phone. I tried to go from MG2 to MF1. I also remember that I managed somehow to format "modemfs" in recovery, so it's one of these two things.
Thanks bro.

You spamming many threads with quite confusing remarks, not really readable posts, and more...
Don't expect any help if you writing like this... I suggest that you start to post your questions more structured...
This suggestion is not only for this post - also and mainly for the bunch of post from you during the last few days.
I really tried to help you but refused, after you came up again and again with a changed situation.
Maybe its time to show you what you've done the last days:

Hey guys i did everything as tutorial says and everything is almost ok. I have baseband name but still no signal
