[Q] How can you change bootanimation sound? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was able to change boot animation right after root by using the same methods as I used on my DINC. But I want to replace the boot sound as well. I have tried renaiming to thunderfinal.mp3, android_audio.mp3, and (VZW_) something .mp3 to no avail. Any suggestions or success?

The boot sound is the FinalThunder.mp3
If you're rooted w/stock, the file is under /system/customize/resource
If you've flashed Adrynalyne's rom, it's under /system/media

you have to rename it finalthunder.mp3.old. It worked on mine

you guys are reading his question wrong. he doesnt want to get rid of thundersound he wants to add his own music or sound.

Right, so name it finalthunder, make sure it's an mp3, and adb push it to whichever location applies to him.
Sent from my HTC Incredible using Tapatalk

has that worked for you?
I did finalthunder.mp3 and named the renamed the old file to finalthunder.old before i even posted this and still i got nothing. Does it have a specific quality or codec used?

How to Turn the ThunderBolt's Boot Sound into a Ringtone/Alarm/Notification:
1) Grab the FinalThunder.mp3 file and place it on your /sdcard.
2) Install Ringdroid or a similar ringtone maker app from the Market.
3) Find "FinalThunder" in Ringdroid and open it.
4) Select only the parts of the sound you want to keep (if you want to keep the entire sound make sure Start = 0.0 seconds and End = 8.42 seconds) and save it as a Notification sound with whatever name you want it to have in the Settings menu.
This file now is modified for notification purposes and can be found in /sdcard/media/audio/notifications/<WhateverYouNamed>.mp3.
You can choose right then and there to make it your default notification sound or you can choose it later from the Settings->Sound->Notification Sound menu.
Enjoy!

Not what I was asking but good info though. I want to replace the boot sound with something custom.

[Q] Change the boot sound?

I've been searching on how to do this, but most of what I've found either doesn't work or it's just to remove the sound completely. I deleted the poweron file and placed in another file, renamed to poweron, but it still doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?
Theres an app called Root Tools. I think that has some boot sound options.
nevermind ...
I have a file I want to use, I'm just not sure on how to get it to recognize. Any thoughts?

[Q] Boot Animation Audio

I have the Call of Duty boot animation, but for some reason the audio wont work. I also have tried the Xbox 360 boot animation. Even that, will not play the audio. but the FinalThunder.mp3 still plays fine.
Ive checked permissions, file names...rhetorically everything. Anyone got an idea what i might be doing wrong?
which rom are you using.....I'm finding the same problem using CM7 and the Bios boot animation. Haven't really looked into it yet though as I just loaded it this morning.
Will post back if I find anything.........
Stock. I rooted fully. Rootchecker says im fine, and the animation works, but no sound
What I have found that works is you have to have the folders within bootanimation.zip set up the same way as the stock one: android, progress and VZW. I haven't look that far into but it seems like the boot sound is triggered when a certain folder is started. If this is so, replacing the boot animation with another one that isn't structured the same and renaming the mp3 to FinalThunder won't work.
Like, wat do you mean? only thing i got is the bootanimation.zip and FinalThunder.mp3, and its int he same place, as in /system/customize/resource/

There's a folder structure inside bootanimation.zip. I'm not talking about where the zip file stored on the phone. More than like the Call of Duty zip has two folders in it, android and part2. Link me to where you got the boot animation and I'll fix it for you.

Ill try to attach the ones i have.
Looking inside them both, stock bootanim has no folders. But the COD one does. As for the audio, FinaltHUNDER works but cod-finalthunder wont. (no, i didnt name it that lol)
As i said before, the boot animation works PERFECTLY, just the audio is not working
Try this. Works with sound on my phone. http://www.mediafire.com/?2fvuc65eqdcfdp3
testing. will post with results.
Also, could you maybe tell me what you did? I really want to learn. I have some others i'd like to get working, as well as some ideas I am building with some friends. They know the stuff, but they are in classes and doing finals..I don't have the luxury of college.
Also, is there a way i can adb into my phone and auto-achieve r/w on my system folder? Right now, i have to use RootExplorer and mount as R/W since adb always tells me "unable to push, blah blah, read only filesystem"
It works. Perfectly. Cept the audio is unsynched but that will be easy for me to fix. Thank you so much. What did you change, my awesome savior?

All I did was set the folder structure the same way the stock one is, with android, progress and VZW and made sure desc.txt was formatted properly.
If you are using adb, instead of using Root Explorer to mount system, try command
Code:
adb shell sysrw
Of course this command all depends on how the ROM is set up that you are using.
So, say im using a new bootanimation. Copy/pasta the desc text file, and make sure the structure inside is the same way?
adb shell sysrw says permission denied. im using rooted stock.

Simple break down: android folder contains the first image of the boot animation; the one some people thinks is a second splash screen. VZW folder contains the actually boot animation images and progress is the last image display at the phone is booting. Place your boot animation images in these folders accordingly. I would suggest just putting a plain black image in the android folder and name the image the same as the stock "second splash" screen.
Use the desc.txt file from the boot that I sent you. The only thing you will need to change is the frame rate to make it work with other boot animations. So if a boot is supposed to be displayed at 10 fps, change the 30 to 10 and save.
Once you have everything the way you want it, zip all three folders and desc.txt using the store, or no compression, option. Now you are ready to go. Like you mentioned earlier, you may need to edit FinalThunder.mp3 to make it sync correctly.
About adb sysrw command; stock RUU is not up for that command. Not sure what the syntax would be for stock root or if you can even mount the system as R/W through adb.
dont think i can. and i thnk i gotta lower the fps a little ont he animation

Did you open it from within the zip file and save it? If so, when you saved it, the zip was updated and probably changed the compression ratio to the default of whatever program you are using.

[Q] How to disable startup sound on Rooted phones and edit boot up pictures

Device: Motorola CLIQ MB 200 Android 2.1 phone [Rooted] Blur_Version.2.1.5.MB200.T-Mobile.en.US
Which file needs to be edited to disable the annoying startup up boot sound? I would rather edit then use an app.
Can T-Mobile "Stick Together" animation that plays at each boot be edited? Can Motorola animation that plays before that be edited?
EDIT: HERE's how:

As for my question - success! I hope this helps someone else:
• Renaming /system/media/bootanimation.zip gets rid of the default Motorola and default Cell carrier animation and the Android logo changing colors can be seen instead at boot up.
• Renaming /system/media/audio/notifications/OnTheHunt.ogg is the only way to get rid of the boot up sound.

I have a couple of other questions: How can you disable your Contacts being backed up by your phone carrier?
Is it necessary to manage background RAM usage on Androids, should you make Apps release RAM they used after you finish using them?
Using Droid Explorer I found that this zip file contains the boot up animation:
/system/media/bootanimation.zip
The zip file contains a series of .png files which I assume can be simply replaced?
But you can use Droid Explorer from your PC to only copy files from phone - not write files TO phone. How do I mount the phone as read and write so I can simply copy-paste files from PC?
set the sytem sound to zero and the startup sound will atomatically be disabled...

Use root explorer in your phone to acces system/media/bootanimation.zip. Then copy it to sd card and extract it edit the .png files then re zip it and copy the modified bootnimation.zip back to /system/media/ and reboot your device. (Backup orginal bootanimation.zip as well as do a nandroid backup of your rom before doing so because you might get into problem, so you can revert anytime)

IMO, ES File Explorer is the best on the Market. It's free and it allows read/write access for root users. Just make sure to enable the option in the Setting menu. Then select your new bootanimation.zip file and paste it into /system/media. Rename the original bootanimation.zip.bak (if you like - although that boot animation is horrible so it's doubtful you'll ever need it again). Then simply reboot. There are thread on XDA dedicated to sharing custom boot animations - just do a search.
In terms of RAM, Android manages it pretty well all by itself. I've heard users more experienced than myself say that unused memory is wasted memory. Point is - don't worry about it. And definitely do not use a task killer unless you know exactly what you're doing. I recommend the app Watch Dog. There is a free add supported version in the Market. It's a great tool if you want to monitor your RAM usage.
By the way, I HIGHLY recommend you flash CyanogenMod 7. The lastest nightly version 86 is running wonderfully on my Cliq. You'll notice huge improvements in terms of performance and battery... everything is better. Flash it asap. Either use ROM Manager or check out the Cliq thread on simplyandroid.com.
Thank you for great suggestions, I will look into all of that. Yes! ES File Explorer is better than Astro File manager I had installed. I think both ES File Explorer and ES Task manager need to be installed. And then you can copy-paste files from SD card to phone system if you CHECK: Mount File System in its settings. Thank you.
I understand I need to set system sound to zero and the startup sound will automatically be disabled.
Cliq has no system sound setting, look: Settings > Sound & display:
• Ringer volume
• Media volume (for music and videos)
• Phone ringtone
• Phone vibrate
• Notification ringtone [you can just select messaging tone here]
• Audible touch tones [Disabled]
• Audible selection [Disabled]
• Media audio effects [Disabled]
• Haptic feedback [Disabled]
• SD card notifications Notification [Disabled]
That's it. Where is system sound so I can disable boot-up sound?
I guess its Phone Ringtone!!!

I guess its Phone Ringtone, try to set it to zero and reboot. You can also try setting each option to check which one is for boot sound. Since I don't have Cliq I can't tell the exact one.
In my gts5570 setting system volume to zero disable all unnecessary sounds such as bootup and others (it eventaully boosts battery performance also.)
Phone ringtone selects the sound for the phone ring. It does not have a volume setting - only selection of which ringtone you wish to use.
Ringer Volume has a volume selection obviously but that turns off ringing or message sound notification - and I just want to turn off boot up sound.
None of the sounds on the listed options correspond to the boot up sound.
I am trying to locate the sound in the system so I can replace it with a muted file with the same name. Any ideas where to look on the Cliq?

First of all, you're right, unless you download a 3rd party volume managing app, you cannot adjust "system volume." And really, you don't want to set that to zero. If you do you will lose other sounds. The system volume manages every other volume setting on your Cliq. In other words, if you lower the system volume, the media volume will also be lowered. And perhaps this does not apply to all phones, but it definitely does with the Cliq. The best way to eliminate the sound at boot is to either remove the audio file from your /system/media (as you said), or to flash a different ROM.
As I said before CM7 is a great ROM for the Cliq. It has no sound at boot. After you flash and get the phone set up, it will feel like a brand new device. I don't know where the audio file is located for the stock 2.1 ROM, but seriously, check out simplyandroid.com and find the CM4Morrison 7 ROM thread, read thoroughly and flash away.
EDIT: I just did a quick search on boot audio file locations, and it appears it should be in /system/media/audio. Looks like every device/ROM is a bit different, but look for a file called something like, poweron.wav or boot.ogg or something to this effect. I can't check my device because I'm running a different ROM, but if you can locate the boot audio file, simply delete it or rename is .bak and then reboot.
Flashing is the next step. For now I just wanted to figure out how to change all the defaults. I am still looking for that audio file. It is definitely somewhere on the system... but where?
Also: simply renaming bootanimation.zip gets rid of the default Motorola and default Cell carrier animation and the Android logo changing colors instead is seen. Definitely a quick way to get rid of ugly animations.

Like I said, the audio file should be in /system/media/audio. And yes, renaming or deleting the bootanimation.zip should result in the default animation. But the Motorola splash screen should remain. That's strange that it's gone.
I know I've said it twice before, but CM7 is amazing. When I finally flashed it on my Cliq, my only complaint was - why did I wait so long? My Cliq was very problematic when I was running the stock 2.1 update - and even before that with 1.5. But now it's customized and optimized and it runs brilliantly for a first generation Android phone. Check out the link below when you're ready.

That's great that you found the file for the sound at boot up. I remember that now... since you essentially froze the onthehunt.ogg file it won't be available as a notification anywhere else. But that's probably okay with you. I remember wondering why the 2.1 update included that notification sound at boot. It seemed silly that they recycled an old notification sound. At any rate, glad you fixed it.
Copying it to SD card and using it as a custom sound under the same or a different name would make it available again I think. But I just want to say that I understand what you are saying about flashing, and how good it can be.
Do you drive image your phone and if so which program do you use to make a drive image of your phone for quick restoration.
I would like to figure that out so that I can flash whatever I want and test it - knowing I can reimage my phone in minutes back to the state it was in before experimenting.

Yes, I do make regular backups using ClockworkMod recovery version 2.5.1.2. There are newer versions but this particular one was recommended by "team rogue." It has worked flawlessly. That's the first thing I would suggest - download Rom Manager, and then from within Rom Manager you can flash ClockworkMod Recovery. As you probably know it is through CWM that you are able to create nandroid backup images, restore the backups, as well as flash new ROMs. Nandroid backups are my little safety nets. I backup often.
OK, so stick with ClockworkMod recovery version 2.5.1.2 and do not upgrade.
Any ideas why, is it because of Cliq or something else?
I can really only make an educated guess as to why... the Cliq is an older device. My current phone is much newer, but I'm not even running the most recent CWM on it. I believe Rom Manager will prompt you with a message that displays your device, then you'll click yes to confirm, then you'll flash CWM... if I remember correctly it detects the proper version for you.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Well thanks again.

Hope I got it right: Rom Manager > Scroll down to All ClockworkMod Recoveries > Select 2.5.1.2 > OK > to install ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2 instead of the latest v5.x or higher.
You may need to mount the system with RW access or Run Fix Permissions under Rom Manager first then go to Backup Current Rom > Enter backup name then the system will automatically run the backup and save it to
SD card:\clockworkmod\backup

Sounds like you did it perfectly. I believe you only need to run Fix Permissions after you've flashed a new ROM. It should fix (or greatly reduce) any issues with FC's. But I have not had any problems with this myself.
It is now time for CyanogenMod 7 for Cliq as you suggested.
I am confused as to which one I should download fro the Cliq,

The Cliq is the Morrison... I'd start with the latest nightly. Remember to thoroughly wipe/factory reset to flash 'clean' the first time. If you continue to update the nightlies, you only need to wipe cache/dalvik cache each time you flash.
Also, there is a "superwipe" zip which can be found here:

This also includes detailed instructions on how to flash for the first time, as well as how to flash the updates.

No problem I HATE that damn boot noise so I looked into this yesterday.
What is the best way to get in there and change the files around? I downloaded Android Commander on to my computer and even though it lets me downloads files to my PC, it won't let me do anything to the android system files because it says I need root, even though I do in fact have root.

ok i am able to change the boot animation and got rid of the t mobile jingle. now i want to add my own audio file during the boot animation. what do i need to name the file to work properly. i named it just like the t mobile jingle sound but that didnt work. any help would be greatly appreciated
The T-Jingle is just a ringtone, the bootup sound is named ruby_something, I don't remember what exactly off the top of my head, but it is a .wav file.
If I am going to put my own boot animation in here, can I just find a GIF of the appropriate dimensions and rename it .zip, or do I have to take each frame and convert it to a .png and put it in a zip file the same way that the default boot animation is?

no actually T-Jingle is the sound that was used on the original boot animation. as soon as i got rid of it that jingle did not sound when i loaded up the boot animation. i know the .wav file you speak of though. but if that was the boot animation sound why wouldn't it sound now with my new boot animation. there has to be some way to associate the new boot animation with what ever sound file when the phone boots up. as far as creating your own boot animation there are a lot of tutorials on this site. within the boot animation zip file there is a text file that basically tells the screen resolution and how as well as the frame rate and how the file should work. you should dl any boot animation and look at the desc.txt file. that will give you a little of an idea of how it all works.

Weird, on my phone T-Jingle.ogg is just a 3 second clip of the T-Mobile jingle ringtone sound, the one that plays on my phone at startup was ruby_something.wav, which is much longer and has the sort of rocket blast sound at the beginning and then a prolonged T-Mobile jingle.

I will open up the default boot animation and see what's doing. It is kind of confusing though because in the zip file is all of the .png files for the animation, but then there is another .zip file that has the exact same thing in it.

they both might be involved with the boot animation but as soon as i removed the t-jungle.ogg there was no sound at all when the boot animation. i will try messing with the other sound and see what happend

not quite sure about that. i just know that i was able to take a boot animation from another phone and edit the desc.txt file to the proper screen resolution to get it to work. like i had mentioned if you do a search on the site there are quite a few tutorials on how to create the boot animations. good luck

answered above in your quote
sorry for bringing up a fairly old thread, but this is exactly what i was looking for.
so i was able to change back to the stock boot animation as OP said, but I DO want the original sound to it, right now there is no sound. what is the file called and where is it located? i found the file in a t-mobile bloater zip from another thread, just no idea where it goes and what it should be called.
Bump

Ithink you quickly answered without knowing what i and last poster asked, where in the boot animation zip does the sound file go, the link you gave me has the sound file seperate from the bootanimation zip.
I read every post in this thread and my question is not answered.

Did you even look at the link I posted in your thread? If you did, then you wouldn't be looking to put the sound file in the bootanimation, but instead put it in the required folder, that's why I linked to a tutorial, it is there for a reason.

[Q] SGS3 Disable boot sound without deleting from system?

Since about 1 month I did something to disable boot animation sound (first using ARHD ROMs, then the one I made), and it survived various flashes (without every doing a full wipe). But last week I did a full wipe and boot sound is back.
During that time, I made something to disable the boot sound without needing to delete the boot sound files from /system/media/audio/ui, because I flashed many roms that wipe and rewrite the system partition (and rewrite the boot sound files) and boot sound was always disabled, so what comes to my mind is an option in some menu that I can't find anymore.
Does anybody know if there is a way to disable boot sound without deleting the media files?
You can go into root explorer go to the folder and simply rename the file from bootup.ogg (or whatever the file is) to bootup.ogg.bak (or whatever you prefer.
I add the .bak to it so i know I changed it and the original file name never changed. So if I ever want to enable it again, simply remove the .bak and is all good again.
Hope that made sense

I know about this rename/delete thing, but I am really curious to re-find out how did i do it last time without deleting the files
Did you try "silent boot" "no startup sound" "quiet restart" in market?

a little off topic
When I deleted the boot sound, I lost the multi window feature for wanamlite 5.3. Does anybody know why?
