[Q] Guide For CM 6.1.3 V4.5.7 ? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Full N00b here ...
I want to Flash the CM 6.1.3 V4.5.7 on my X10,
never flashed any rom before, so I want to know is there any brick proof and foolproof Guide for it ?
I read many threads, but still confused,
Can I flash it using Flash Tool 0.2.8 (thats the cool tool i found)
any Help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks.

No, only with xrecovery!
So:
1. Update with SEUS (SonyEricssonUpdateService) --> Every data on mobile gets erased except sd-card - same after xrecovery
2. Use FlashTool to root + install xrecovery
3. Follow instructions on 1st page of CM6.1.3 dev threat

already done to your 2nd instruction (xrecovery)
seems like, I am on my own ...lol
Thanks anyways ..

Are you rooted with xRecovery installed? You can flash the CM6.1.3 v4.5.7 in xRecovery after rooting.
Make sure your baseband is either 54, 55 or 58.
1. Place the CM6.1.3 v4.5, 4.5.7-update zip files on your sdcard and reboot phone.
2. When the SE creen shows up, press the back button and it shall boot in xRecovery.
3. Make a backup in xRecovery.
4. Then make a full factory wipe.
5. Then wipe cache.
6. Then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache and then wipe battery stats.
7. Then go to install custom zip and choose the CM6.1.3-V4.5.zip on your sdcard.
8. Then again go to install custom zip and choose the CMUpdate 4.5.7.zip from your sdcard.
9. Reboot in xRecovery.

I am also a noob, not even rooted yet D:
Am I right in thinking that I follow this guide (The stickied flash tool guide):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Do everything there, then install xRecovery? (If so, is there a link or guide for this anywhere?)
I think I understand everything past that..
Just incase I make a complete balls-up of this, can I return back to what I currently have, relatively easy, provided I made a backup in xRecovery?
Thanks

You can use flashtool or superoneclick to root.
Then install xRecovery.
Here is a thread on how to root using superoneclick:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

Ok, so my phone is rooted with SuperOneClick.
Trying to do the xRecovery procedure, but I don't really feel like buying the app, when I don't have 100% faith in what I'm doing is right, so I'm trying the manual method.
I also downloaded a free alternative to root explorer, so I'm using that.
When it tells me to copy the 3 files to '/system/bin' folder, where is this located? I can't find this when browsing through my phone files on my computer..
Also, the BusyBox app just searches for BusyBox and then FC's?
Soory for being a noob ):

Make sure that the busybox installer has got superuser permissions. xRecovery needs busybox to be installed.

errrrr, and how do I do that? haha
Appologies! I can't find noob-friendly info anywhere ):
EDIT: restarted phone and notification came up

Got the busybox and xRecovery installed then ?

I would love to say I have, but whenever I try to copy the appropriate xRecovery files into system/bin/ I get the error message 'Not enough space'
Any ideas?
EDIT: and then I discover they are allready there.. ¬¬
DAMN I feel like such an idiot doing this haha

Why are you copying xRecovery files onto /system/bin/ ?
... Just install the xRecovery apk file

I don't know ): I was just following what this thread was saying:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
hahaha, but anyway, I've got that installed now.
So now I drop the CM 6.1.3 files into the root of my SDCard, right? Not sure what it means by 'the root' of my SDCard, Im assuming it mean's i Just put it straight on there, not in any folders or anything?

Yeah... or you can also put it into some folder to make it organised. Make sure to make a backup in xRecovery before flashing the CM 6.1.3 ROM.

I getcha! Thanks a bunch, man! I should be ok from here (Hopefully)
Thanks for your time! ;D

Sorry for double post, but, 2 last quick questions:
1. When 'flashing' things to my phone, is that the same process I used putting the customROM on? (Selecting a custom ZIP file from xRecovery) Or is it done in an entirely different manner? I ask because I want to install some of the extras listed on the mod page.
2. Is it pretty simple and straight-forward to restore my data from my stockphone if I need/want to?
Thanks again!

This guide has detailed steps for installing custom ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979561
p.s. for update v4.5.7, follow the steps to install v4.5 then flash the update files after you are done.

Yeah... flashing is done in the same way as installing the custom zips in xrecovery.
At any given time you can revert back to your old ROM whose backup you created in xrecovery. It will he exactly as it was before you flashed the new ROM.
To restore data you need to backup data using anorher software, typically 'titanium backup'. Its very easy to restore apps using this app.

Cheers guys! I think I have everything covered now!

just to be sure
If i understand correctly, u have to backup your phone with xrecovery to be able to restore to the factory reset.
It's like changing the OS of a PC.
thanks

Ok, having rooted and flashed my phone yesterday, I can give you a hand.
You need to get an explorer that can access the root folders. Most widely used is Root Explorer and the instructions I know are for Root Explorer.
A. xRecovery
Install Busybox from the Market.
You'll need that and then go to this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878427
1- Download xrecovery mini and put it in your SD card.
2- Open Root Explorer, move each of those files to system/bin. To be able to edit this folder, click the button on the top. Then, in case the permissions of these new files are different from the other files in the folder, change them to 644 (just check the permissions on another file)
Now, test it. Reboot and when the white SE label shows up (not the logo), press the back button about once every second. If it doesn't work (mine didn't) go into that bin folder earlier and open chargemon (Edit with Text Editor) and change event1 to event0 and try again. If it still isn't working, refer to the xRecovery topic.
B. Flashing the ROM
Download that ROM and put the ZIP in your SD card. Reboot the phone and go into xRecovery. Make a Backup. If something goes wrong, you'd be thankful you did.
In the xRecovery main menu do a factory reset just out of carefulness.
Then choose Install Custom ZIP and select the second option. Now navigate to the ROM ZIP and choose it.
That's preeetty much all I had to do. Then reboot and your ROM should load. In case it hangs, first check the ROM topic, if nothing works, you should restore your stock ROM.
Garrr!!!! losing my mind now can't get Xrecovery to load up... i have installed it correctly... several times over tried changing event0 etc. can't just get it into Xrecovery at all
Are your permissions correct? Double check that the files really are in that folder, there was someone who had an issue that it looked like they got moved but they didn't. Normally, 3 presses are enough. 3-5 presses.
ok finally got it to work , next i install this custom rom file then how do i go about installing hotfixes?
What was wrong?
Same process, install custom zip
i put them in system bin when i was supposed to put them in Sbin, also now i have installed cyanogenmod 6 and now it is stuck in boot loop
You mean, the logo loops a lot? Just wait, mine did the same.
ahh right ok thankyou ^_^
it's the actualy sony ericsson text logo that is re-booting a lot this is normal yes?
still booting, i'm reading other topics now and some are saying about updating latest on SEUS, i am getting worried i have backed up although one can't help but feel worried lol....
am i missing anything here?

[Q] N00b move from BIONIX to Trigger

Hi,
I'm noob that got Vibrant phone (from EBAY) that already ROOTED & ClockWorldMod Recovery V2.5.1.3 - Voodoo Lagfix (I don't how...)
With :
KERNEL : 2.6.32.9
BASEBAND : T959UVKB1
BUILD : BIONIX-V 1.3.1
SUPERUSER V2.3.6
SU BINARY V2.3.1-EF
VOODOO LAGFIX
In recovery I see :
ClockWorldMod Recovery V2.5.1.3 - Voodoo Lagfix (ALL IN RED)
apply sdcard update.zip
wipe data \ factory reset
wipe cache partition
install zip from sdcard
backup and restore
mounts and storage
advanced
voodoo
+++++Go Back+++++
I don't have any backups so I want to install ROM MANAGER from market, I read HERE that if i want to upgrade I need to go go back to stock (I'm really don't know how this version get to the phone and somehow the ROM MANAGER not there...)
Do I must go back to stock or I can download ROM MANAGER, Install it and make something like "Upgrade" - I don't know what is the voodoo lagfix and do I need to uninstall it if I want to:
1. install ROM MANAGER and preform Backup & Restore (most important how to verify my backup OK )
2. Move to Trigger 3.2
Can some guide me with simple steps about how to start (I know that I'm not starting for 0 ether in the phone and ether in my knowledge)
Thanks.
Download Trigger
Install titanium backup, backup all of your apps
Move to internal, /sdcard
Reboot to red recovery
Make a backup
Wipe
Flash, instal from sd
Reboot
Wait
Reboot
Restore
Reboot
this says it all

This says it all, but since you are a noob
by wipe, he means to wipe everything (data(factory reset), cache, delvik cache(thats on the advanced options)
As for the titanium backup if you dont know how to use it, just youtube it or go over the threads here
Finally when doing the flash, make sure the trigger 3.2 file is on the sd card
And NO you dont have to go back to stock
1. Do all this without using the Rom Manager?!?!?!? - If I want to install it just download & Install, no any pre-requisit ?
2. when you say Wipe - you mean to "wipe data \ factory reset" or "wipe cache partition" ?
3. Flash, instal from sd = "install zip from sdcard" ?
4. Wait = how much time
5. Restore = Restore what?
Can you direct me to step by step guide for this or input some details?
Thanks alot

Hi,
I checked your guide and even see the video and I have Q, about the "Rom Manager", I saw In your video that you Use it...
Someone told me that my current ClockWorldMod Recovery is old and I should upgrade it... (I couldn't find in the net \ this forum how to upgrade my current version...).
Someone told me:
1. download from market
2. install it with ROOT
3. click "Flash Clockwork Recovery" and boot to recovery
4. Re-install Packages - I DON'T HAVE THIS OPTION NOW
and from there like in your guide: backup, make all the Wipe, place rom on sd and choose "install zip from sd card"
1. Is it true and should work?
2. should I follow those steps (in this order)
3. should I make a backup before and after I download and "Flash Clockwork Recovery"
4. If I follow this orders should I see the "Re-install Packages" that I don't see now and should I need to use it ?
Sorry for all the questions but I want to "understand" (as much as can) what I'm doing.
Thanks Again
Earlier I was sending you messages from my phone while waiting for an appointment... let me try again...
You have the red voodoo recovery. You do not need anything else. Ignore Rom Manager and all that, you really do not need it, because your ROM replaced this recovery with the stock one. You are good.
Just download the rom
make backups
go flash the rom
enjoy
If you have a specific question or want a better explanation, just let me know.

1. Do all this without using the Rom Manager?!?!?!? - If I want to install it just download & Install, no any pre-requisit ? No, you have a recovery that allows you to make backups and flash roms already. Because of this, you can use the step by step guide I gave in post 2 and just be merry.
2. when you say Wipe - you mean to "wipe data \ factory reset" or "wipe cache partition" ?
Yes, and dalvik in advanced like another pointed out.
3. Flash, instal from sd = "install zip from sdcard" ?
Yes
4. Wait = how much time
After you flash the rom, let it just sit for about 10 minutes, then reboot, don't mess with the phone.
5. Restore = Restore what?Your apps if you backed them up... restore your launcher, contacts if you dont use google.. whatever you want to restore, just not system apps (green system apps like wifi and bookmarks should be okay though, exception to the rule for 2.2 > 2.2)
Can you direct me to step by step guide for this or input some details?

when you say: "your ROM replaced this recovery with the stock one." do you mean that after install the new rom I need to make ROOT again? (sorry for my noob)
I make all install (without SIM on the phone).
after the reboot I saw the Android and after few scondes he say to inset sim....
Do I was have to install the new rom with the SIM in it?
PLEASE HELP? (for now I don't know what to do so I'll wait the 15 min)...
ANY SUPPORT? - is it OK?
thanks.
1. Install the ROM with a SIM card in...or if you didn't, insert it like it asks you to.
2. ROM Manager IS clockwork recovery. It is that menu you went into to flash the rom (can be green or red depending on your kernel installed). You don't need ROM Manager because whoever had the phone before you already installed ROM Manager at some point and hence, you have the Clockwork Recovery now as you saw.
3. After you install the new ROM, the boot up will take a long time. It is setting up all the system and configuring the operating system. After it finally boots, leave your phone for 10 minutes and just don't touch it. This gives it time to do a lot of configuration stuff it needs to do when it first starts up. After the 10 minutes are up, restart it. It will now start a lot quicker (like normal) and when its up, you can use it anyway you want. Hence, some first things to do would be to restore your contacts, programs (if you backed them up, settings, etc)
3. I really recommend you read a little bit more before you do flashing like this next time because if people here are not nice and don't lead you by the nose (or if you follow a step wrong), you can **** your phone. The procedure is easy. It is fairly foolproof but it is still advised that you have basic knowledge of what you are doing.
There are a lot of sticky threads on the forums that explain what things are. I recommend you have a look.
Thanks It look like everything is OK now (I read about 15 post before done this...)
Now my Phone Setting look like this:
FW : 2.2
Build : FROYO.UVKB5
KERNEL : 2.6.32.9
TRIGGER VERSION : 3.2- FINAL
BTW:
I'm still see "ClockWorldMod Recovery V2.5.1.3 - Voodoo Lagfix (ALL IN RED)"
1. Does my CWR was needed to be updated too - because its not ?
2. Should I update my kernel too ? - Is there any guide fort this?
Thanks.
SomeOne
I just want to be sure that everything is OK, and find out why my CWR didn't upgrade as well...
Thanks.
OMG!!!!!! Just follow the instructions! It's not rocket science; geez. I know of most noobs who wouldn't even ask this many questions even AFTER the guide/tutorial/step-by-step instructions are in front of them. I give you my word that you WILL NOT brick your Vibrant just by trial and error.

I don't understand why you are so set on the CWR upgrading.... and just an FYI, the red recovery (.3) is a higher version than via Rom Manager (.2).
Be happy. Move on to something else now that YOUR PHONE IS FINE

Since you're already on 2.1, go to settings, then application settings, then development and enable debug mode on your phone, run the flash tool and click root, the tool will do every thing for you, when it reboots, choose ask root perms, then allow it on your phone to get superuser access, when that has been granted, the flashtool recovery option should be enabled, click on that and install recovery to your phone, you can then install the pre-rooted gb in the developtment forum and follow instructions to install a custom from from there also.
EWJet
Sinse you are already on 2.1 you should try the EWJet rom,

In order to use link2sd, you'll have to partition your sd card, you don't necessarily need to do it, it's only done to save app space on the phone itself by installing the apps on the sd card, you can skip that for now, here's how to go about install ewjet rom.
Requirements:
1. Rooted 2.3.3 GB ROM
2. Xrecovery installed
3. SD card
Steps:
1. Choose the version of EWJET you would like to install, you said you already chose the SE Flavoured 2.3.4.x, so skip this step.
2. Download the patch all the way at the bottom, step 5 in his thread I think. You'll have a choice of kernel's to choose from, I recommend freekernel patch, it's stable and smooth.
3. Copy the patch and the ewjet main rom file to your phone's sd card root.
4. Make sure your phone is charged, at least 10% is okay, but I don't encourage that low battery level.
5. Reboot insto xrecovery
6. Wipe cache partition, do a full wipe (factory reset) and then go to advanced options and wipe dalvik cache.
7. Press back to the main menu, choose install custom zip.
8. Scroll down using the side buttons to the EWJET main rom zip file and select it.
9. Choose yes and install it.
10. Reboot the phone, give it a couple mins to boot up and settle down.
11. Reboot into xrecovery again.
12. Choose install custom zip once again, choose the patch zip you downloaded and install it, if it ends in an abort, don't worry, it's fine.
13. Wipe dalvike cache and reboot your phone.
14. Voila! You're all done, install your apps etc and go about using it as per normal.
You're all done, if you want to use link2sd, then say so and I'll walk you through that.
Works thanks!!!!

[Q] Steps to rom on atrix 4g (mac)

I have just rooted my atrix(2.3.4) on my mac. What are the steps to installing or flashing a rom. Must be do able on mac. sorry for the noobyness -sincerely Nooby noob
I'm also a Mac user and I can help you with that since I've done that already.
1) Ok, you rooted, but before you flash a ROM you need to unlock the bootloader.
Here is how -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260517
2) Install Titanium Backup and backup all your apps.
3) Install ROM Manager (Android Market)
3) Install CWM RECOVERY (ClockworkMod) and make a full backup of your cell, so that if you want to go back you can. I believe you can do this from within ROM Manager.
4) Download the ROM zip file you want and copy it to your sdcard.
5) From within ROM Manager you can install that new ROM (zip file).
More info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
I hope this helps.
Thank you so much I've tried like 50 forums i was starting to lose hope, also is using a rom worth it?

[Q] Installing Custom ROM

Hi! I want to install a Custom ROM on my X8
This: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101691
But, when I download the file, it's an update...
Since I have Android, the Costum ROMs I always intall them from "Backup and Restore"
Sorry for by a NOOB, but, really I want to install that ROM, but I dont know how...
Somebody help me? I dont know if I explaind good....
THX
Have you rooted your device? If not, search the web for how to root your X8.
Yeah man, my X8 it's rooted... but I don't know what direct relation is beteween root and intalling the ROM with xRecovery...
My question again, in other way
When I download the CROM, the only file that I have is a "Update.zip", so, this is an update from the main crom? or I install it with "Install custom rom" on my Eclair? (the ROM it's GingerBread)
THX
(CROM = CUSTOM ROM)
The update.zip file is the ROM. Make sure you back up anything you want to restore to the new ROM (apps, SMS/MMS, etc.) before booting into xRecovery. Also, once in xRecovery, back up your current ROM before flashing the new one.
Okay, so, I have to install this "Update.zip" on my Eclair (2.1) using the option of xRecovery called "Install update.zip from SD Card"?
After, make the full-wipe and reboot?

NO !!! First you need to download and install a Busybox. Its an app which could be download from Anrdoid Market. When AM install it, open the app and click INSTALL BUSYBOX (it ask for root perms- you need to click allow). Then Boot your xRecovery and click Apply Update from sdcard. When its ready do full wipe and then boot your phone with new rom
