How is performance? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Current have an Inc, Hoping to switch soon. Just wondering, how is performance in 3d applications and gaming? Specifically N64oid. Thanks!
-CM7 ADR6300

I don't have tons of info for you, but I can tell you this... N64oid wouldn't work at all on my fascinate, I could hear sound but no video at all.... Goldeneye 007 (the only game I really care about lol) plays on my tb, but it is a lil choppy, but the app is also very young so I think that has something to do with it....
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App

True. It was also pulled from the market until the dev could improve it.
Would you mind trying Orcarina of Time? It runs about 70% speed on the Inc.
-CM7 ADR6300

I can tell you this, havenf played alot of games but this phone makes the dinc feel almost slow. And i LOVE the dinc. But the extra ram and upgraded processor really make for a flawless experience. If u are thinkibg about getting it. Do it
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

I have the 5 vibrations and blinking led issue on my Inc and the TB is definitely what I would get.
Thanks for the replies, guys!

Ocarina of time runs seamlessly just tried it and it literally runs smooth as butter.

Hello I just can say that I always tried to play the Monopoly HD game on my previous Android phones ( Droid 2,dinc,Droid x,fascinate,Samsung galaxy tab) and I could install but never open it until now with this thunderbolt so that should mean something I guess lol

Super Mario 64 Runs Smooth Too. The Graphics are good enough. Way better than old gen Snapdragons SoC for shure. better than Droid X and on par or Near Galaxy S from what people say (Seems bout right to me too). Also to guy with Fascinate, Games worked good for me on my old fascinate. Maybe it depends on game.

I'm coming from the inc, and the performance is much better. Easiest way to tell is by using a live wallpaper. They are much smoother now with the better gpu.

I too came from the inc. It's definitely better in terms of performance especially graphics. The extra screen size makes everything more enjoyable too.

Abduction! is laggy

I downloaded Abduction! and was really surprised to see it lag and "jitter" in anything but graphics settings to the lowest. Do you experience this too? It's a south east asia legend if that might contribute to differences.
Yes me too. It's a shame that a 2d platformer runs choppy on a 600 mhz processor, programmers should optimize it a little

i got that game... never had a lag problem, works smooth

No problems here. And I'm a beta tester for Abduction! 2
If the phone is the same, we just have different concepts of smoothness
Sent from my HTC Legend using Tapatalk
It runs smooth in my phone.
It depends on level... if you set details at maximum, when there is sun or rain on background it slows down. Check out Hyper Jump: now THIS means smooth, and it has way better graphics
Sent from my HTC Legend using Tapatalk
Tried hyper jump and its really smooth and a lot nicer graphics. Guess it boils down to our definitions of smooth then

Have you rooted yours?
No, I haven't rooted it. However, maybe I should add that I've tested it with the demo version and that I have only played like the first half of the first level.
I'll try advancing further in the game and report whether it makes a difference.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
Alright, I've played the first three levels now and I had sun and rain and all I can say is....no lags.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
I have a MT3G rooted on Cyanogen 5.0.8. and I get lag too. I tried the lowest settings but it doesn't change anything. This app i just weird on some phones I guess. I don't think my phone is that slow that it can't run a 1mb app properly.
Are you all using the full version? (as I said...there's no lag for me playing the demo....)
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
Tried both the full and demo but still lags. Lol, I'm just gonna convince myself its not that fun anyways..
You could try hyper jump or the free game papi jump(hasn't such nice graphics but is the same type of game.)
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
I also tried the full version and no lag here (without root).
Btw try doodle jump. Its the same kind of game .
No lag here as well .. at full settings
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
No lag here either, full settings, stock Bell Legend, demo. even the level with the rain is smooth.

Faster Angry Birds??

Hey all you Eris heads, i was wondering if anyone has tips on making Angry Birds run faster on our lil Eris'es. I love my phone and Angry Birds but the lag is bad. Im running setCPU at 710 max, 245 min priority 100. Anything i can do to increase the speed?? I really wanna kill pigs faster
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
All you need is 2 9v batteries, three of those metal cored garbage bag twisties, and 2 rolls of ducktape.
But if you do figure out a way, I would give props.
The lag is not eris specific, it is being reported on a lot of devices. I'm sure the revs will get it worked out.
BTW this is not a dev related post, should be moved to the apps thread.
Sent from my nonsensikal froyo
If you're rooted check out adfree in the market, makes a huge difference, actually playable now.

Downgrade to v1.3.5. There are some missing graphics here and there but its much faster on the Eris than the current 1.4.2.

That's only to a degree. The lag is about the same once you get half way thru the second part of level one. At least that has been my experience.
Sent from my Floyo Tazz using XDA App
Turning off the radio helps (via airplane mode) helps, but the graphics are still hard to handle.
Sent from my ERIS using XDA App
I don't see why graphics would be the issue here. I play much more graphic intensive games that work way better then my experience with angry birds. The ads, now that I think about it, could be the culprit. Going to try the suggestion made earlier to block the ads and see if the performance is increased.

Everyone i know with an atrix or optimus are not impressed lol

I Came from the i9000, the only thing better about that was the screen.
There is no lag like the Samsung it juts works in fact it all just works strictly speaking we dont need a custom rom on this as it's pretty good as stock (not that we arnt trying of course)
So if you love games buy it, if you like games buy it, if your not bothered about games dont buy it.

ha ha thats funny my bro had an atrix for about 20 minutes till it had a meltdown coming out of the damn store!
Of course ! Go get it
If you won't miss the much better screen of the Fascinate, the Play is a very good choice. It has a very solid Interface without much fluff, is developer-friendly, has awesome gaming controls, solid (not great) cameras and good GPS. The screen however isn't all that great. It has good colors, but the maximum brightness is pretty crappy, it's not very visible in sunlight and the picture sometimes 'drags' a little. Nothing that would ruin the run, but it's noticeable.

I agree, the play is great for gaming but it is lacking in power compared to some of the latest phones.
My buddy got a free play and let me play with it 4 a night. If your a gamer, the controller is a serious selling point. On my desire hd, gaming is fun but touch screen sucks. On the play, I was loving gaming. Played ocarina of time. Set the controls to hardware and left the c buttons on screen. Ran smooth too. Same with final fantasy 9 on fpse. No lag at all. I get lag on my desire hd which is overall a better phone spec wise
Maybe it has a better video card? Or its optimized 4 gaming so specs mean nothing.

Plus I overclock my desire hd to 1.5 ghzs. With 750ram. And the play runs better on stock 1ghz 512ram

i have a desire HD too and agree GPU performance is better on the play, quallcomm said it developed more mature adreno drivers for the play, maybe once the play is hacked, a dev like snq could port the play drivers to the DHD
Adding in another yes, mine just came in the mail today. After spending the night with it I am absolutely pleased with my purchase. Finally, I can game properly on my phone. It's a really responsive phone, too. Gingerbread is snappy on this thing.
Yes!
Play is a really good phone, I love it`s controls and on stock firmware it really is good unlike with some other phones I have had where I just wanted to change to a custom rom because of them being boring or buggy.
Play may not have as powerful a processor as some other smart phones, but it`s gpu makes up for it and gives the power it needs for great gaming.
Sony do need to get their asses in gear for the Playstation releases though, right now their line up is crap and not getting much update.

apart from the Dual core tegra 2, the quallcomm scorpion is the most powerful CPU on the market, infact it's its GPU adreno 205 witch lacks in power

Haha great analogy.
At the person who asked this question, you can't expect hd goodness in this price bracket. But the O1 is probably the best performer among similar priced handsets.

Agreed! The nearest competitor will be the Galaxy Ace...
But the amount of RAM available is too little compare to O1.
So, i still prefer myO1 =)
Remember this: You get what you pay for.
replying directly to your question, no, optimus one doesnt lag when playing HD games
I play Need For Speed shift smoothly as butter on my phone and I love my phone so much
so enjoy the O1 it is really much more worthy than its prices
This phone is the best in his price range but obviously you can't compare it to an high-end phone like nexus one... just you have to know that there's no flash player support...

it's just because angry birds are overloaded with particles.. they have to calculate every boxes, wood etc's complete physical movement, but if you wait for ~10secs after loading a level, all things will be smoothier
and i guess ther isnt only angry birds are HD, those gameloft games are working so well because they have the preload mechanism

Thank you mate for quick reply

Honest one, it lags when you are on stock, and lags in Angry Birds too, but not on every level, just those big levels with lots of object. And it does better than Wildfire, which i intend to buy before i made my research.
Anyway, i wanna say that, my phone can run NFS Shift smoothly, which i don't expect it previously[on stock kernel and rom man!]!.
So, enjoy your O1, it is a great phone, with superb all rounder stats.
i play asphaly5, nfs shift, eternal legacy, assassins creed, dungen hunter, gangster, gangster2, hero of sparta smoothly
and avatar and brothers in army with little lag
I'm using Mik's CM7 MOD, and while everything runs much better than on stock, I still get lag on heavier games..
Overall though, good phone!

Its a pretty solid device for gaming, I've run almost all the Emulators on it and they work great, and all market games work very smooth like! Also helps that there was a great person who got the Wii Controller to work with our device, just search for that thread if you're interested
It is awesome. I have never experienced any lag. All the games I've played at the highest graphics settings have run very smoothly.

There are a few games that do not work, just as an FYI. I haven't been able to play Robot Unicorn Attack, N.O.V.A 2 or Sim City, to name a few.
