[Q] CyanogenMod v4.5.7 Change Avatar - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
Sorry for posting this here
(And not in the forum for my custom ROM but i will have to spam 6 more messages to get to my minimum of 10 before I can do that)
Anyway, the default avatar in the contacts is boring...i would much more prefer an avatar like mine on the left.
After searching the forums I am not too hopeful that this could be done but if anyone can shed any light on it please let me know..
Many thanks in advance

You've to modify the contact.apk if i'm not wrong

Cheers. I have just had to go through all my contacts without a pic and assign them the avatar I wanted. There should be an easier way....surely

Well you have to open contacts.apk with 7zip or winrar then go to this directory: res/drawable-hdpi-finger/, in this folder you will find; ic_contact_list_picture.png, ic_contact_picture.png, ic_contact_list_picture_2.png, and ic_contact_list_picture_3.png
Just replace these four files with any picture you like. Just remember to use .png files and make them the exact same size as the original files
after you finished just replace everything that you have modified in your .apk file
then you may flash it using xRecovery
...in case you dont know how to do this...
Youre using Wolfbreak's rom, right?
Just go to the file "CMUpdate 4.5.7.zip" open it
go to: system\app\
place the "contacts.apk" that you have just modified here, and delete all the rest apk files in there
then flash it
hope this helps =]

Problems while porting a theme!!! [Please Read]

Hey,
I have a big problem. I have edited the framework-res.apk and the twframework-res.apk. The theme looks good, but I have the problem, that now I can't open messages and a few other apps. Does someone know how to fix that?

Editing those shouldn't affect other apps..
That may be caused by some other changes you did with your phone.

even i had the same problem...couldn't open messages, settings and many more...may be its only the the inproper resizing or something to do with .9pngs
Regarding .9.png files, i found it would be best to use Photoshop or gimp, open the extracted file and the decompiled file do the resizing on the extracted file and draw the .9patch with the pencil tool (shift helps to draw a line) similar as in the decompiled one. Because i heard draw9patch is a little hard to use. Hope this helps...

One thing is that if you don't use the (tw)framework-res.apk from the specific ROM you are using, force closes are eminent.

I only made it a flashable zip, so that everyone can have it without installing CM.
A simple guide on how to make it look better, by resizing (I used Paint.NET):
I can't try it out right now but there should be a file in that zip called desc.txt. Open it up and change the first two numbers to 240 320. That will resize the animation to the phone's resolution.

Seriously? Is that so easy? It'll be blurry I think... I had the same idea changing those numbers, but again, (as you can see in my signature) I don't have my phone to test it. Anyway, I am going to release a BETA then.
This is my first resize ever, I have no idea.
Thanks.

I have found how to do it, the problem is how long will it take...
I just resize the width to 240 with aspect ratio and then I just resize the canvas size height to 320 and it's done. I am using Paint.NET.
The problem is with part1, there is a CyanogenMod 9 label in the bottom and this will be gone if I resize everything this way. After the white "flash" on part1, maybe I can put the "skating android" a little bit higher so that the label will be visible...
Can you suggest me anything else?

Yup, it is really that simple. I did it just now in a matter of seconds.
To be honest, it is better if an animation is the right size to start with as it runs much more smoothly. Also, if you are resizing from a different screen size ratio, bits of the picture can get cut off. Try it on this and see what I mean.
But yeah, for the most part just changing the numbers in desc.txt works fine. And it's quick too!
