half memory in WiFi model!!! - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

The specs seem to be out for the Wifi model exclusive to BestBuy, sadly every source I've read says 16GB instead of 32GB. Why would HTC change the capacity of the wifi model, or will there be 2 size options?
In other news, Sprints version the Evo view has hdmi out, the flyer doesn't.

price points? or they will offer both. the space is not a big deal braker for me

The HDMI out is a big deal for me. I don't really mind lack of 3G or 16 GB storage. I can always tethered to my phone for network access and I can add SD card for increase memory. HDMI out would be very useful for doing presentation with a data projector.

Will it have dlna support like the evo 3d

Mostly... Yes
Hd2 desire s build xda app.

It does do HDMI out via the microUSB port. This was confirmed by Clove Technology. AFAIK, the 3G/WiFi/Evo View should all be the same in that respect.

The radio is mounted in RAM so for a wifi only model the radio ram footprint should be smaller. Although the smaller radio won't fully compensate for the smaller ram, it shouldn't be the end of the world and if it keeps the costs down it can't be too bad a thing!

Are you talking about internal memory (MMC) or the bundled SD card?

Internal memory (MMC) here is the link:
http://www.htc.com/us/press/best-buy-and-htc-announce-exclusive-launch-of-the-wi-fi-htc-flyer-tablet-at-ctia-wireless-2011/36
Straight from HTC itself, 16 GB internal (mmc) instead of 32 GB on the 3G model.

So who's thinking about getting a Vibrant 4g from Tmobile

I was thinking about selling mines to a co worker and getting the 4g Vibrant when it comes out. The more I read about it seems as though is not gonna have the same built in 16gb of memory. Its weird if it does still come with the built in 16gb memory to come with a 16gb sd card. A lot of the leak stuff out there shows that it comes with a 16gb memory card. I had a G2 the data speeds were awesome being able to stream netflix from my ipod at work, without any buffering felt just as fast as my wifi at home. The only reason I let go of it cause of the beauty of the Super Amoled screen and the size. If it does not have the built in memory as my current vibrant I wont bother to upgrade. I just rather wait for the newer devices coming out. Not too worry about the ffc at these time. So whats ur current stance on the new 4g vibrant.
Meh

Don't think it is going to be any different than the current Vibrant. The specs show that is basically the same phone with 4G and FFC.
Go figure, as soon as they release it we will figure the 4g modem out and then our pone will be 4 G. So no real reason to change. BTW, this is why (imho) they do not release the froyo source code. If they did we could just convert our phone to 4G camera and all......... then we would ALL have a Vibrant 4G for 20 bucks....
I was thinking about it but I hear in a couple of months Tmobile is getting a dual core Htc, think I will wait for that, not much of a jump for me to go with the vibrant 4g

About mid year or so my daughters line is up for full discount, I'll prob upgrade her to my Vibrant and go with this. Even if it isn't 4g.
I agree, I'm not going to pay an extra amount just to have 4g. I'm not even guaranteed to have a good 4g signal in my area. Some of my area I can't even get a decent 3g signal.

I already have the 4G Modem, 3 of them in fact. They do not work on the vibrant. Neither do the 4G kernels. They boot, but no data will every be provided.
and it's not 16GB internal and external. It's 1GB internal and 16GB External.

dont you think vibrant 3g will keep you happy unitl vibrant 2x comes out and with eugenes kernels we beat nexus so only cons would be not havin FFC right as we can almost utilize 4g speeds once 4g is released and we can cop the drivers off of it to make data speeds alsomst the same as vib 4g i will deff wait until something in place of vib4g come out

[Q] Should I buy a HTC Evo View or HTC Flyer?

I am looking to purchase an HTC Flyer, but I noticed I can get a new HTC Evo View for nearly the same price on eBay. I have no need or interest in Sprints network (Verizon customer) and plan on using this only with WiFi or with my Verizon LTE MiFi.
So for nearly the same price point for new hardware is it worth it? Can I just install a custom WiFi ROM on my Evo View or do I need to use an Evo View custom ROM for HC?
Thanks again.
I would buy the View even if I was not interested in the Sprint functionality. The View has 32GB of internal storage + you can ad a 32GB card. Having the the 3G/4G radio gives you built in GPS and you run navigation apps that have precached data.
IF GPS and memory don't interest you, the Flyer does have more devs behind it and there are more ROMs for it.

What the other guy said, plus you cannot install a Flyer ROM on View, or a View ROM on the Flyer. The View just got a burst of development activity with more ROM's, HC, and stuff.
Thanks guys, I pulled the trigger and got the Evo View New Factory Sealed for $295. I am hopeful that Dev support will increase given the discount it had recently. All in all 32GB of storage was the big part for me and HC is out and there is ROM development happening.
Thanks for the feedback. It was tough deciding, but the HTC Flyer prices for new and even used are reaching $300 on eBay so for the same cash but more memory. I am already to root it and install the script that kills the 3G/4G radios hopefully that doesn't kill the GPS portion. Still if it does oh well I have in car Nav anyways and a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon.

3G/4G and GPS are the two independent things.
Unless you are talking about AGPS.
Still:
Any offline app such as CoPilot or Sygic will use built-in (excellent btw) GPS receiver on the View.
Regardless of 3G/4G.

Yes I know 3g/4g is different then GPS but the 3G radio has a GPS receiver built into the chip. All modern radios include GPS. Just like how Bluetooth is included on wifi chips. Thats how the hackers were able to get Bluetooth working on the Nook Color. B&N just did not solder in an antenna for it which is why it has such crappy range.

The Flyer has built-in GPS as well. In order for any Android device to be approved by Google to have official access to the Android Market and Google apps, one of the requirements is that it has GPS.
That said, the View is the better buy in my opinion. It has everything the Flyer has and more. Plus, development is really picking up.

Mobile Broadband On Prime

Might sound like a strange question but im wondering how many of you folks use mobile broadband on the Prime and if so how fast is it?
On my laptop which has 4GB RAM sometimes it fast other times it can crawl along so im just trying to get an idea how fast it would be on the Prime?
(Yeah i know different broadband providers/different speeds but just a general question)
Looking forward to getting mine hopefully soon!
Thanks

By "broadband" do you mean 3G? If so, the Prime's not offered with 3G. If you mean throughput, some Speed Test's have shown the Prime getting upwards of 20MB download speeds when connected to Wi-Fi.

I mean like a broadband to go stick (pay as you go broadband)
Like this for example
http://www1.meteor.ie/mobilebroadband/
edit - or would i actually need a broadband micro sim for the prime?
It doesn't have 3G/4G. If you use a 3G/4G WiFi sharing device, then you could use it like you are talking about. I'm not sure about using a USB 3G/4G device on the Prime, it might be possible.
i use a t-mobile wifi hotspot, it works just as fast as any other wifi device connecting to it, all very dependent on the network connection... that's your bottleneck, not the prime

It's a 2.0 usb port so I would think so. It should have full functionality.
I use sprint connection via htc evo hotspot, it gets the job done for websurfing and programs needing general data, but I haven't tried it for streaming video or youtube. It is generally faster than what I'd get at like a cafe.

A Micro sim would not be helpful at all, the Transformer Prime has no 3G. You cannot insert a sim card.

Android doesn't have the greatest of compatibility with 3G dongles due to drivers. No guarantee this would work.
The best solutions at the moment are tethering to your Mobile Phone (If you have a suitable one with a decent data plan), or Purchasing a Broadband sim with a Wifi Hotspot device (Like a USB 3G dongle, although it broadcasts a wireless network which you connect the prime to for internet access).

OP, the only way you're going to get broadband on the prime is wifi. Meaning you have to tether it to a phone or a mobile hotspot.
if you going to tether, just Google for the Barnacle apk and wireless tether apk. both work flawlessly. barnacle is like the hotspots one and wireless tether does a single connection. either way both work and you don't have to pay for an extra tethering plan to use it of you already have a data plan.

Your exactly right, I shouldn't have answered. I thought the micro sim would go into micro sd slot.

Verizon SIM Card???

Has anyone used a micro Sim card adapter with VZW? I have a SIII phone that uses the micro card, but I have to switch to an HTC phone that uses the larger Sim card. So I was thinking I could buy a sim card adapter to switch around phones.
Yeah you can do that. You can also just use the micro sim In the Rezound if you can place it right
Yes, I have a old at&t sim card that has a cutout where I put the micro sim

Sweet thanks, when I was searching it seemed that you couldn't use a micro sim card with an adapter with a phone that took the larger one.The SKU has to match a phone that takes a micro sim card. So I wasn't sure if you could or not with VZW. The wife does not like the SIII and wants her Rez back. She said that she can't get a signal or data at work (she is a radiologist at a hospital) with the SIII, but she can with a Rez. So I'm giving her the Rez back and I get to sell or play with the SIII.Thanks again for the help, just wasn't sure if we could switch around phones with diffident sim cards.
I have on in my Rezound right now, works fine.
Gotta love those crappy radios in them sammy's....

gotta love samsung signal. Yeah, signal in hospitals around radiology are really bad. Too much lead in the way. Our hospital uses sprint phones so we have sprint signal boosters throughout. At least I can roam when in those low signal areas.

x96 Max not detecting my 5ghz wifi

Tried searching but no luck. x96 with the S905x2 cannot see my 5ghz network. Can see my 2.4 just fine. My android phone and laptop can connect to 5ghz with no issues.
I've tried:
switching channels on the 5ghz
turning the 2.4ghz to just b+g (without the n)
The box is only 1 yard away from the router, so distance is not an issue. I'm using ATT U-verse, if that helps.
downloaded aida64 and turns out that 5ghz is not supported, strange
My understanding is that only the 4GB RAM models have a dual band wifi chip.
Unfortunately, almost all reviews are for these 4/32 or 4/64 boxes, so it rarely (if ever) even gets noticed and the typical sellers of these cheap Chinese android boxes pretty much all use the same copypasta advertising crap, often just reusing the same templates for all variants beyond the headline differences (ie. RAM & internal storage) without bothering to actually check.
