I'm rooted how do I get rid of apps - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK...I am new to Android. I have my phone rooted but am wondering how can I uninstall some of the junk that came on the Thunderbird. Stuff like Blockbuster and the Golf app. Also how can I change my boot screen? Any tips would be helpful.

Titanium backup,(suggest pro where u can freeze them) is the easiest way.

I downloaded Titanium backup and it says i am not rooted. I have ROM manager and superuser in my all apps screen.

I chose to install one of the custom roms that just removed the Verizon apps... Provided link below. Though did have to redo some of the root process after flashing the custom rom, but not a huge hassle. Plus got rid of the bloat thanks to adrynalyne
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000103

still learning this phone. Not sure if I am ready for that yet I do not even know how to flash to a new rom yet. I used the fast root method that just came out yesterday to gain root to the phone. I know....I am not hard core yet.

it ti backup there is a option to reinstall busybox. do that and you should be golden.

found busy box that seems to have worked. Do you have to have the paid version to remove apps?

free version is ok but pro is better... you can freeze apps first, if it messes something up defrost it and dont uninstall!

Thanks for the help guys. Do you think getting rid of the apps like Blockbuster, Golf, Twitter etc would do any harm?

I deleted mine with TiB, no problems...

now i just have to figure out how to delete them

Removing T-Mobile bloatware

I have my phone rooted and I was under the impression that I'd be able to uninstall some of the crap that came preloaded. Can anyone give me some tips or direct me to a link? Thanks in advance...

Download Root Explorer (i'm not associated with) and go to System/App to remove a lot of the bloatware that came on the phone. I strongly encourage researching what can & can NOT be removed. ALWAYS make a backup. Here is a good thread about removing the bloat. Remember, I am not responsible. It will be some time before we have a custom ROM that removes this crap for us.

From here. Tons of useful information in that post
You can also use Titanium Backup to remove the bloatware. It is free from the market. You can also use adb to manually remove the apps via cli.
And here is a list of the apps that I removed.
AccountAndSync.apk/odex -> The app in the drawer, not the settings.
AddToHome.apk/odex
AudioPostcard.apk/odex
Avatar.apk/odex -> The app that launches Avatar in the video player.
BuddiesNow.apk/odex
Dlna.apk/odex [Allshare]
FlashPlugin.apk/odex
GoGo.apk/odex
Infoalarm.apk/odex [Daily Briefing]
KindleStub.apk/odex
Layer-samsung.apk/odex
MediaHub.apk/odex
Memo.apk/odex
Mini Diary.apk/odex
MobiTV.apk/odex
MyAccountStub_4-5-10.apk/odex
Myfiles.apk/odex
Sims3_Samsung_Embed_Launcher.apk/odex
slackerradio.apk/odex
Swype-Tips.apk/odex
Telenav.apk/odex
thinkdroid.apk/odex [ThinkFree Office]
vvm-signed.apk/odex -> T-Mobile Visual Voicemail [can be re-downloaded from the market. for some reason that version is the preferred one.]
VoiceRecorder.apk/odex
VoceDialer.apk/odex
Writeandgo.apk/odex
TouchwizWidgets:
Day.apk/odex
DualClock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Calenderclock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Feedandupdate.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_stockclock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Weatherclock.apk/odex
The link posted by hurrpancakes is an excellent read and should answer most of your questions.
If you already happen to have Titanium Backup (or want to buy it), you can freeze/uninstall the apps with it with a GUI.

Lost Swype?
Hello
Got my vibrant rooted today and started removing bloatware..but after deleting swype tips it seems that swype is also gone
any help would be appreciated. Really liked swype..
thanks
Did you do a nandroid backup before removing the bloatware?
If you did, you will have to restore your nandroid backup and then start removing bloatware again.
If not, you will have to restore back to original using Odin...
I am not able to post links, but the odin restore method is posted several times throughout the forum if you do a quick search.
Thanks..I'll try odin. I installed slideIT but it seems pretty inaccurate at first
I used the titanium backup method and rid myself of most of the crap on my phone. Thanks for the Info everyone!

Get Root Explorer and use that, or if you're not sure and need to make sure you have root access just download busybox from the market and it will check to see if you have root, that's a fast way to determine if your root access is functioning or not.

Every root app should work except ones that depend on kernel mods (i. e. market version of Wireless Tether). I used Root Explorer and Titanium Backup to take care of my bloat and all went well.

Nevermind, I used viperboy scripts and a reboot later and the bloatware is gone from the app drawer as well. I'm not sure if it was viperboy scripts or titanium backup that removed it from the app drawer but a reboot helped.

Running into strange issue.
Have complete root. Using root explorer, root user granted.
When i first go into the program I can set to R/W. However, once R/W is set and then I go into the system folder it goes back to R/O. If I back out to the first page it goes back to R/W.
It's very weird that it'll only stay R/W on some folders and not others.
Any ideas what might cause this?
UPDATE: I uninstalled root explorer and downloaded ES File Explorer. Gave ES root permissions, and hurrayyyy. I can delete the bloatware.

[SOLVED] WTF? Is up with the Market? Look at this...

Tried to go to my apps in the Market and keep getting this crap!!!
I get that after a fresh wipe and ROM install. I think it's a matter of Market talking to the phone and reading what apps you do and do not have currently installed.

OK well first relax. Issues like this are common when flashing custom roms. Your best bet is to do a full wipe and then reflash the rom. Also don't restore any system data at all as this can cause issues. Only user apps and data
Reboot! Always helps!
Same here factory reset worked

Guys I'm Trying everything!! I Reflashed a Rom and it was Working... Then All of a sudden it said Android market process Force closed, then I couldn't get to my apps again. I just reflashed for a Second time and its still Not working...
Also during the Time when i got it working, all the apps I already purchased were asking for me to buy them again! WTF?
Anyone have any other suggestions?
I thought about contacting Google, or whoever the Hell could Restore my user information!

Hi, I know this problem. When you flash a new rom and afterwards apps were installed with a backup tool (e. g. titanium bu) and not with google market directly this error can occur.
When there is one app which was removed from market the error in your screenshot is shown. In my case it was the old version of "cut the rope". To solve this problem it is necessary to remove this link to the market or deinstallation of this app.
As long as there is a mismatch in the app-market-assignment it is also possible that you get the message that apps were not bought.
It is possible to un-link apps using the "rom toolbox pro". As far as I know it is not possible with the free edition.
I would make a nan backup and try to uninstall all apps directly in the market (on your PC not on your cell phone). Afterwards it should be possible to use the market on your cellphone. When something fails you can restore your backup.
Update: when you know which app is the source for your error --> use ur backup again and uninstall just the known erroneous app.
Its a lot of work

[Q] Good free app for converting /system apps to /data apps?

I recently got a Toshiba Thrive, and did the ota update not knowing it was going to ruin my chances at root (hopefully only for the time being) but I have a lot of themed apps I want to use on it, but they all need installed into the /system/apps folder because they were themed. None of them are actual system apps, but custom themed apps from the market. Is there any (free) apps from the market that corvert them or change their permissions that will do this right on an android device?

Just tried that, I get "cannot convert to user app". I used metamorph to theme all of them.
Without root it won't allow to do this. TIBU failed because it needs root to do it. You are gonna be out of luck until you can root.

[Q] T-Mobile Bloatware HTC One

So the T-Mobile HTC One comes with quite a bit of bloatware and I just wanted to make sure I uninstall all that crap with doing any other harm. So I'm creating a list of bloatware below. My question is, is it safe to remove all the bloatware with doing any harm to OS/phone in anyway? Btw, I do have my phone rooted and have Titanium Backup.
List of Bloatware: Feel free to add to the list if I've missed anything.
LookOut
T-Mobile MyAccount
T-Mobile Name ID
T-Mobile TV
Visual Voicemail
Also, is there anyway of taking out the Internet and replacing it with Chrome?

You can take out the internet but some of the HTC stuff most likely needs it. Also Chrome does not support Adobe Flash player where i am sure the internet one does. If you want to make chrome a System app, you do this with TB. Just long hold the app you want to make a system app in TB and click convert to system. This will move the app from the user data to the system. If you wipe the phone the app will still be there but will just need to be updated. An easy way to find bloatware is to freeze the app under TB and if you have problems you know that the system needs it. You can just go and unfreeze it and use it again. If you uninstall something and do not make a backup of it, chances are you are going to run into problems.

If you just have root the system files are not writable. You have to flash a writable kernel. Root and stock kernel will not let you R/W it will say it did and confirm, but upon reboot, well you already know that.
Check out some custom kernels to access those advance features. I am on bulletproof right now. Pretty slick

Thanks! I ended up choosing 'freeze' for now which is good enough for me.
EDIT: Needed a writable kernel to force uninstall talk in order to install the new hangouts. everything went great! installed this kernel:
