issue with clockwork... - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just rooted the phone, and installed the clockwork mod, using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099, did everything correctly the only difference was that my phone did not reboot (at least I don't remember that it did, I believe I just had to turn it on myself). Anyway, I then installed rom manager and "flashed clockwork recovery". I later tried to "reboot into recovery" through Rom Manager and when it booted through the stock recovery (2e) It displayed the following "failed to verify whole-file signature" and it said some other crap. What should I do? My phone is running stock OTA 2.1 ea28 and I want to put EB01 or something of that nature. Help me please.
update: i just uninstalled Rom Manager, i just read that its not always compatible and creates problems...what should i do now? should i use odin again to reinstall clockwork?

Dont use ROM Manager, its not 100% fascinate friendly check out my guide @ androod development. Dl cwm in step 8 and flash it with odin

ok i just flashed it with odin using your file, but since I don't have rom manager anymore how do i access clockwork recovery, (in other words how do i flash roms now)?

you can boot into recovery for holding down the up and down volume buttons while it powers up, until the samsung logo appears. then choose "install zip from sd card".

it takes me to stock recovery(2e) and there is no option there to "install zip from sd card"...I'm confused...am i missing something?

xHoLyx, just tried applying the file you just gave me (I placed it on the sd card) through stock recovery and I get: E:failed to verify whole-file signature and E:signature verification failed. What should I do now?

Press "Thx" button and please leave post in my guide so others will know it works.

Are you trying to install bionix or already have it installed. Basically something is wrong with the update.zip on your sd-card.
In case you tried to rename something you downloaded from here to update.zip, do not do this. The update.zip that is created by Rom manager (or obtainted by a few less common methods) should be left alone. This is what the stock recovery loads in order for you to access the ClockworkMod Recovery. You must flash roms like bionix inside ClockworkMod Recovery by chosing to "install zip from sdcard" then navigating to the file.
Hope that helps.
Yeah, I have the update.zip file on my SDcard that has not been touched, and the ROM is on the bottom of update.zip. I'm trying to pass 'reinstall packages' in order to go into recovery mode.

I'm not sure what "on the bottom of update.zip" means. However to fix the issue of getting into recovery, simply load your existing rom and download (if you haven't already) Rom Manager from the market (the free version is fine). Then chose to install Clockworkmod recovery. Then go back into recovery and reinstall packages again (sometimes you have to reinstall packages twice before it works).
After speaking to a few people, they told me a solution to the signature problem. I downgraded from 3e to 2e and now it kind of works. Instead of getting the errors now, my phone simply reboots back in Recovery Mode instead of going into CWD(?) Mode.
Download rom manager and flash cw recovery again like the guy above said

[Q] Failure on installing Custom ROMS!

I have literally read all the threads here about installing custom roms...
however my phone doesn't seem to work..
I have Galaxy S Vibrant.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
I got help from this 'noob guide' but still I have different problem.
I have froyo. (2.2) and my phone is rooted. (one click root)
I installed ROM Manager (free) and flashed it. and then when i reboot into recovery, and click 'reinstall packages' I get the following notifications:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
What's the problem with my method?
On the forums somewhere there's some tutorial on how to get arround that but for me its easier to downgrade to stock 2.1 using Odin and then root and get clockwork and you wont have that problem
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
you have a 3e recovery since you upgraded to 2.2 You need to either modify it by following the thread in the development section or....
odin back to 2.1, let it boot, root it.
install rom manager, install CWM recovery.
reboot into CWM recovery, you'll probably have to reinstall packages.
Flash w/e custom rom you want. Just be mindful of voodoo and whatnot.
clicky thanks if it helped.

You might need this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737
Hi,
Try this one:
1. Download one of stock kernel from this thread which is required by your ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
2. Put it in internal SDCard and change name to update.zip
3. Flash latest CWM through ROM Manager
4. Reboot into recovery via ROM manager
5. Choose 'Reinstall packages' when rebooting to recovery. You may need to do it twice.
6. After successfully reboot into recovery, you can flash your ROM now as usual. Put your ROM file zip in internal SDcard, then you can 'choose zip from sdcard'.
Good luck.
IN the noob guide I state you need the 3e modified recovery, stock 3e will not allow you to install CWR.
From the guide:
If you have issues flashing Clockwork Recovery's update.zip, it is because the new stock recovery (3E). Please see this thread.

Like others said, you have a lot of choices.
1 -use the modified 3e
2 -odin to stock JFD and use the update.zip to root, RM, CWR, flash rom of choice
3 -odin using the ALT METHOD in the noob guide, flash rom of choice
I personally followed this tutorial and it worked a treat:

[Q] Rom Manager - Failed Backup

I'm trying to use Rom Manager to backup my Vibrant for the first time. I'm running Stock Froyo.
I tell Rom Manager to flash the clockwork recovery, select Vibrant S and it "succeeds"
I then tell it to backup current ROM, and it has me confirm the name of the backup and then reboots. At reboot I get a few lines of yellow text that says Intalling Multi-CSC which seems to work.
It then just sits there. I assume I need to select "reinstall packages". When I do it gets a signature verification error on the update package.
I must be doing something wrong!
Reboot your phone into cwm recovery and backup from there. If your having issues getting into cwm recovery, just keep "reinstalling packages" in stock recovery. Also make sure update.zip is in the root of your INTERNAL sd card.
Future questions should be put in the q&a section. Not general

Sorry for picking the wrong section.
I have verified that Rom Manager did put an update.zip in the top level internal.
However, every time I select backup rom from update manager it does the same thing. It reboots and when I select reinstall packages I get
Install from sdcard
Finding update package
verifying update package
(all in yellow) followed by a progress bar that goes maybe a quarter of the way, and then in red
E: faile dto verify whole-file signature
E: Signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
If I keep selecting reinstall packages, it just repeats the above.

[Q] -HELP- Clockwork Recovery Not Working?

Here is the video, sorry for the bad quality. If you couldn't understand, basically I looked up how to get clockwork mod recovery, as my recovery is the original one that does not allow you install custom roms.
So in ROM manager I choose the vibrant as my phone for Clockwork Mod, and it says it was successful, so I do Boot into recovery.
The thread then said to choose install packages, so I did that, and it loads like 1/5 of the bar and an error message is displayed. There error reads:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I dont know what it wrong, my old vibrant worked fine when I did this and I had a custom ROM i enjoyed until I dropped my phone and phone it. They just sent me this knew one since it was insured, and I want to get a custom ROM on this vibrant too.
Thanks everyone, XDA is the best!

Im VERY sorry about the quality. Thats why i also typed out my problem.
Froyo 3e recovery won't allow you to flash anything.
-Use Odin to flash back to stock JFD Eclair..then reinstall packages x2
-Use Odin to flash Voodoo + Stock kernel--then flash ROM
-Try modified 3e recovery thingy (doesn't work for me)
Delete update.zip and try again from within rom manager

a failed signature veriication either means the file is corrupt, downlod and copy again or thats not meant to be applied thru recovery.
you can verify corrupted downloads by opening on desktop. the desktop archiver will report corrupted zips on opening. any.

If you continue to get the error. I would suggest ODIN and re-root. I myself just flashed back to stock to test another issue and ran into having to repeatedly flash CwM before i could get out of Blue recovery thats why i posted that link. Although my problem never produced an error like the OP i just couldnt get out of Blue recovery i almost got worried haha

Rom Manager Premium Problem

Iv just purchased Rom Manager Premium and the first thing I did was select flash Clockworkmod recovery then reboot into recovery.
After reboot I just get the message:
E:faield to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Does this feature not work with the galaxy s2?

What rom and kernel are you using?
also you are rooted right?
Rom manager doesnt work with them all.
You are missing the step of flashing the zImage of your rooted kernel via CWM. Copy the zImage to your SD card and then flash it via CWM with the option 'Flash Kernel', device will reboot. Done.

I'm on stock Rom with Chainfires Root kernel. Phone is rooted fine.
I've Flashed ClockworkMod using odin this time but I was disappointed that Rom Manager couldn't do it for me without the use of Odin.
Well I thought Clockworkmod was installed ok but every time I try to boot into cwm I get the green android with a exclamation mark. I then have to do a battery pull then it boots into cwm recovery fine.
Any Ideas?
I can access CWM recovery too. But not the rom manager's recovery.

same thing happens to me, im currently running Lite'ning v6.1 so its rooted fine, however CWM still says E:failed to verity whole-file signature
Need help with this
Top of CWM says "Android system recovery (3e)"
@ Sparksltd, on thats android screen with the android and the ! mark, press the power key, this will then show you the CWM menus.
So it seems rom manager can't install cwm on my phone without me installing cwm on my phone in the first place using Odin.
Seems kinda pointless to me.
