Stop new update from popping up - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I made it into the beta testing but after further reading realizing it would remove root I decided not to download. I get the pop up every hour now telling me to update. Is there any way to stop this from happening?
Sent from my Motorola Atrix using Tapatalk

Just root again after the update!?

neither aRoot / superoneclick works after the update

Dont know that this really requires a new thread but you need to freeze the updater service.

Will that work if it's already downloaded, but not installed. I'm worried that if I reboot my phone now, it still auto install

Not really the best solution but install the webtop hack lol. I have the webtop hack installed and I haven't gotten a single notice after being accepted into the beta program. Also if I go to software update in the system settings I get an error so it seems webtop hack blocks this crap.

The webtop is a seperate addon hack that Ken added into the gingerblur script as an addon for Beta 7.7 (which is what I'm on). To me it's worth having this hack anyways as it saves you the cost of the laptop dock or the multimedia dock and it has prevented me from even being able to be told that there is an OTA for my device.

I'm pretty sure I installed it but its still giving me the same error. Someone told me to download but install, reboot into recovery mode, press the four corners of the exclamation point and press reboot instead of apply sd:cardupdate but that didn't work for me as I am still getting the pop up

Couldn't you just install the update and then flash the retail SBF afterwards getting rid of the OTA and the alerts both at the same time?

I guess I could try that, it would be a lot of work getting everything set up back to how it is now though. I wonder if anyone will come up with a fix for this?

If you are already rooted use TiBu to backup all your apps and data. Restore to retail SBF re-root load TiBu again and do a restore.

7/26 MR4 Update -Mandatory?

According to http://www.droid-life.com/2010/07/1...feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+DroidLife+(droid+life) there will be an update to Eris phones. One thing I wonder about is they are calling this mandatory.
What happens if you don't install this? I know Verizon tracks who installs patches and I don't want to take chances losing root.
yeah I'm running EvilEris3.0 on my wife's Eris. I'm actually wanting to go back to the stock 2.1 cause shes not happy with how her phone is acting.....wondering if this will put it back to stock or HOW do I flash it back to the stock ROM?
any help with this would be thankful.
Ok lets not, panic. You need to read the entire thing, and point out that if you have MR3 then MR4 is mandatory but if you only have MR2 then it is only recommended meaning if your current rom has OTA working and you have MR 2 you will be able to ignore the update. If you have MR3 (MR being maintenance release) the update will be eventually be installed for you if you don't do it voluntarily. and you cannot get a replacement for any problems that this is suppose to address if you do not install it
Hey this shouldn't be a big deal. This same update was sent out sometime at the end of last month and those who were rooted were able to root back instantly. Even the 1.49 people. (Assuming you have luck with ADB recovery)
So it will just temporarily remove root?

Pretty much from what I've seen.
And all we have to do is reflash recovery like we did the first time? That's not so hard.

Put her on Ivan's Eris_Official.
No strange/unpredictable behavior. Ever.
I'll just wait for someone to run diffs on it vs the leak4rombase version and see what we can get from it.
Okay with this new root method and all I'm curious as to know if this MR4 is going to stop us from rooting this method. The old method wasn't stopped, but obviously not everyone can do that method.

I just got an OTA update request from T-mobile

and i'm on a custom rom based on ji6...i know it can't be 2.2 update. what can it be? >?? i didn't click on postpone, i'm just leaving it at the notification bar right now..i read here on the forums that it could be an ota update back to JFD/some kind of glitch in t-mobile's roll out OTA from ji6.
It's probably JFD trying to claw it's way back from the grave.. ignore it because it's obviously a downgrade in most ways possible..

Dont do the update. It will break your swype if you do it. No actual gains in this minor update from tmo.
Yeah I got an update even though I'm on Fusion 1.2 with Team Whiskey Core Kernal. I though I couldn't get updates. I postponed it and it said my battery was to low for me to get the update. Can anyone actually check what this update truely is?
*edit* I uninstalled the APK that does the OTA updates. In Titanium uninstall it reboot then delete APK in apparently manager. Then you don't have to worry about getting OTAs. Until Froyo comes out then I would install stock ROM and update if you want to.

That's a good idea! I'd love to know what apk handles OTA updates. I saw on tmo forums that this update reverts back to JFD and screws with swype.
Almost positive it's device management.

I'm FAR too lazy to flash a GB ROM just to watch Netflix. LAME!

[Q] Soak test 4.5.91 rootable?

IF I was lucky enough to be selected as a beta tester for gingerbread for the Atrix.
AND I wasn't thinking and clicked 'download now'
I WOULD ASSUME that the amazon appstore would still working (a plus) - and a downside - I would lose root. IF I didnt' have any other mods running on my phone, and was using SU for titanium backup, reboot, MyBackup, etc. the update should install safely, but would kill root.
ASSUMING that I did that, would I have foobar'd myself... and root will be attainable again.
do you mean it looks different than the gingerbread that we've seen from leaks?
Just an FYI, Motorola does monitor this site, and as part of the NDA, it probably isn't the best idea to discuss it here.
Use preinstall method from what I've read it's the same update that we got off motorola's server.

- Boot into Recovery, and choose "install zip from sdcard"
- select the zip and done?
Is that all?
Edit: Just took the plunge and did this. Thx OP
Thanks, will try this tonight. I was so hoping to get rid of that activation nag.
Thank you very much my man, just what I needed.

This works perfectly.
I accidentally found another way around this... Over the last weekend I somehow enabled my 4G radio. When I opened my browser I was redirected to https://deviceselfservice.sprint.com/dsa/4gportal/welcome.actiob.c... (URL shortened) So I did a little googling and found that you can get one day of free service on 3G/4G by using the promo code Free Day (it is case sensitive)... After a reboot, my tablet was able to activate with no issues and since the trial expiration, I haven't been bugged about it since.
So... If you aren't rooted and don't feel like taking the plunge, you can get rid of the nag screen this way.
been trying that free day code, not working for me.
Googled it as well and it is the right code, but cannot get it to work.
Did you type it all as one word? Capital F and D?
Just did the fix and it worked, quick and easy to do.

umm no one else has any problems. You need to be rooted for it to work since it removes a system file. If something is screwed up you did something wrong. There have been hundreds of downloads of this zip and you're the first that's claiming it's not working.
