Kickstand fanatics, there is hope! - HTC EVO 3D

The evo 3d case for those who want the Retro feeling of the old evo lol jk but it is pretty cool and this kickstands is much more manly.

I'm wondering if it covers all buttons and what the bulk is.
looks like it.

doesn't cover any of the buttons hence the cut out shown on the top there for the camera button. You can also tell the darker area where the volume buttons are so there is a cutout there likely too or its material that will be soft to push.
Looks a lot like they took the material and design of cases like the case-mate barely there case and just put a kickstand on it.
Now what would be even better is if they could just do it with the battery door instead of an actual case for those that like to leave their evo out of a case.
I for one hope Sedio can make their active case with one built in too as thats by far my fav case on my evo. pretty rough on my phone and like the grip. The otterbox ones looked lil too bulky for me too.

Yeah I want a rugged extended case from sedio for a bigger battery

Too bad it forces the Evo to sit on the side where the charger is. Can't charge and use kick stand at the same time.
I'd still buy it though, I like being able to see my notification light while lying down.

I like it a lot.

Not saying it's going to happen but I wouldn't be surprised if htc made the case with a micro usb plug inside that routes to an external connector that's not hindered and available on another side other than the bottom when in landscape mode.

That would be very nice, wouldn't it. But I doubt if they'd do it, since it cuts into their stupid dock sales. But we can hope....
Usually when I use a kickstand I charge the phone at the same time (having a game on by my side with Wimax on, while I work, so need power).

I still think they should have built it in. My main concern is the combo USB/HDMI port. How do you charge the phone while using the HDMI out feature? Mirroring the screen consumes a lot of battery. To me, that is worse than not having the kick stand built in.

Really? So the HDMI cable can carry the digital signal out from the phone to the TV and an electrical current from the TV to the phone to charge it at the same time? I didn't think HDMI plugs were designed with simultaneously charging a device at the same time.
Are you sure about this? I'm not being combative.....I'd just like to know more. I really hope you're right.
Edit: Nevermind.....just found this:
http://phandroid.com/2011/03/28/htc...lity-without-an-hdmi-port-thanks-t-mhl-video/
Awesome, but:
"The only downside to MHL is that you must have the technology inside both the phone and the television, but the company behind it has gotten the likes of Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, Acer and more to back it. These are major television and handset manufacturers and if they start incorporating MHL technology into all of their televisions you can expect the rest of the industry to follow."
So now we need MHL compatible TV's to be able to use this feature? That I don't like.

Hope I can find a way to check if my Vizeo 50" has it.

There will be a way to charge the phone while using mhl with old tvs.
Its an adapter with hdmi->micro usb and one extra micro usb

Well, is not a HDMI, is a MHL port.
You need a TV that is capable of MHL charging, if not it will be only a HDMI funtion and it will not charge.

yay a kickstand case. I think I'll buy a 3rd party case when they come out, I'm sure there'll one that flips the evo to the other side, that way you could still charge it and have a kickstand. It'll be annoying to me, a right handed person, but for lefties and everyone who needs charging while using the kickstand, it'll be perfect. Plus this case is kinda meh

the kickstand case is a must-buy for any evo3d owner

Official HTC Cradle

Anyone else got the official HTC Hero Cradle?
Mine just arrived and whilst it looks good there are a few faults..
It collects fingerprints like mad, and the bigger problem.. because of the chin on the hero it stands too straight upright.. it needs to be laid back a little more to make it easier to read if its in front of you on a desk.
It wouldn't be a problem on any phone thats straight (the cradle is universal and can have little adapters fitted for a few different HTC models).. but because of the curve of the chin the usb socket points at a weird angle.
I've got the cradle. It does collect fingerprints like mad, but the angle doesn't bother me at all.
the angle doesnt bother me. trying to get it out of the cradle bothers me. seems so difficult to pull out or even put in for that matter. will this ease up the more i use it?

Yes it will.
must say I'm pretty dissapointed with accessories for Hero. Official cradle seems to expensive, and to find cheaper one that has audio output on it? asking too much.

looks like this can be it. but, can any cradle be used if the phone is in "soft silicon gel case cover" ?

I had one of these for another HTC phone (I can't even remember which now) and you need to have DC5V and USB both connected to reliably charge. And come on it's not that big
As for the official cradle, yes it is pretty expensive but it is very well made and don't forget it is universal - so you can just replace the adapter when you change to another HTC phone, ala iPod docks. Don't think it fits the Nexus One though? Or maybe just not yet.
ok thanx
I thought that it would be an easy thing to find. and cheap. but it's not really, looking at iSomething accessories, well... it's very hard to compare. There is iEverythingYouCanThinkOf, but only one or two models of HTC compatible docks with audio output. that's sad.
As long as the dock has a proper HTC ExtUSB connector on it and not just mini-usb you can get audio out easily from any of them.
Grab an Ext USB 3-in-1 Splitter from ebay (They look like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=57219&d=1194430021)
And plug into the dock.. thats what I did when I was using my kaiser dock before I bought the official one.
yes that was my plan
but noone said anything about docking a Hero with silicon gel protection on it? it's only about 2mm thick but will it fit? hmm...

Yeah it has audio out + room for an extra battery
From the site :
- Docking Station / Cradle for HTC Hero
(with USB cable + power cable)
NoteThis dock only fits HTC HERO , and not to other HTC smartphones / phones!
Docking Station / Cradle for synchronization of data (between phone and PC) and to charge your HTC HERO and / or extra battery.
Besides that, this dock also separate Audio-Out port!

Desktop Dock

Is there a dock station for the slide that will hold and charge phone in landscape mode? i am looking for something that will keep phone on desk clock mode to use as an alarm clock(power flickers in my apt any time it rains). any body know of a dock that meets this description?
or suggestions/plans at creating a home made dock would help, and if anyone knows of a way to make phone recognize "dock mode" when plugged in and possibly start desk clock app right away
I do not believe there is considering the charging port is on the bottom of the phone as opposed to the side.

I've seen instructions for making custom docking cradles out of little more than a USB cable and some epoxy resin. You could do the same thing with Sugru or any other substance that sets up over time.
Iirc, the "dock mode" on most phones works using magnets in the cradle. The phone has a sensor inside to detect when it's docked. The MT3GS doesn't have such a sensor, so I doubt it would work for that purpose.

It also contains a bluetooth headphone sink and 3.5mm out, but still doesn't make it worth the $50 they want for it. Not as many used items, so it's hard to find it cheaper. AFAIK, no one except T-Mobile sells it directly.
I actually have my computer paired to the bluetooth sink to allow my computer to play music on the speakers next to my bed. This is really nice for me as a night stand clock on my phone, and access to all the music playing on my computer.
I'm using a business card holder. works fantasic. I use BT headphones at work so i don't need an audio out jack.. just a way to set my phone upright (portrait or landscape). If you're looking for a cheap alternative that still looks nice get a business card holder. LOL

[Q] MicroHDMI loose when plugged in?

When i plug in my MicroHDMI cable, it is very loose, so much so that if i don't hold the plug in one direction, it will disconnect and reconnect over and over and over again. I have to push it to make contact. very annoying and very sensitive.
anyone have this problem? maybe it's the cable? I really hate how they designed the plugs onthe curved side of this tablet, and that it had to be a micro hdmi instead of mini
Can someone please try their micro hdmi and tell me if this happens? Also which cable are you using?
Yes I noticed this too. I'm using a rocketfish cable from best buy. I've ordered some adapters from monoprice hopefully those work better

Yes -- thank you very much for asking. This is one of six reasons I sent my TP to RMA department. And it gets worse the more you use the micro HDMI. I used it about 4-5 times over 2 weeks.
I don't know what they can do about it though. But it's just another stupid design flaw. Add it to the list of complaints.
Anyone else noticed this problem? Just wondering if it is the receptacle or the cable. And what could be done with it.
I get my cheap micro HDMI cable in on Thursday and will report in
Mine was loose as well.
I think its prob a normal thing on the TFP because of how its so curved on the edges. Overall the TFP is great although as i keep "testing" this, i keep finding small things that i dont like. Im finding it disappointing considering how pumped i was unrapping it.
Got cheap cable from Amazon and it was loose so I sliced a little off the top edge and it fits and works great now.
I just kinda beveled it a little to match the contour

not a bad idea. i was considering making a similar kind of fitting.
TF201 | XDA Premium
funny, i thought of the same thing two. i had bought at 15' cable (cause what's the point if it's just 6') so i can use it from my couch. the first one was ultra loose. but i got another one that came tonight that is MUCH better, not perfect solid but completely live-with-able. maybe it's just the cable plug. but on either plug i noticed that the plastic end of the plug does not hit the tablet. it seems to bottom out on the connector first. so notsure how beveling my cables would have helped.
anyways... thanks for the comments... makes me want to say, WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST DO MINI-HDMI!
Think the problem with loose cable is the same you can feel with the charger connection and any other stuff you connect to prime
Prime have curved edges. If you look at the cable when it is connected you can see that there isn't any support for the cable on the backside. On the front it looks right but turn the prime over you can see were the problem is.
This can bee notice with the usb-adapter to, that sits really loose because it seems to bee to short. And there isn't any material that support the connection just because Primes curved edges.
Think this is a big failure from Asus. And that they not going to release adapters and cable that are designed for Prime. instead we have to use the same accessories from the first transformer TF101.
got my micro HDMI cable from Amazon today.
It fits all the way in, but does feel "loose", but I get full picture and sound comes out of both my speakers. It doesn't feel loose enough to fall out, and I had a blast playing Shadowgun and GTA 3 on my TV with my Xbox 360 wireless controller
One thing I noticed is that it still displays on both the tablet and the TV at the same time, is there a way to turn off the main display and only display on an external device?

[Q] Charging Dock?

I was wondering if anyone has seen a charging dock for the EVO 4g LTE. It seems the EVO is missing the contacts that the ONE X has on the back so that it can easily be placed in a dock. I know its not a deal breaker but i would really like to be able to just place my phone in a dock without having to fumble for the cable to plug into the side of the phone.

It's designed so you can flip the device over and still charge it while using the kickstand. Spring loaded, so it holds it up fine.
Yeah, I was about to say the kickstand is more rigid and firm than the og evo and works from any side.

They also have one that can be powered by batteries, but it sounded horrible.

Kickstand ....ha ha ha

Okay, so I saw where some had been saying what a stupid design this was on Motorola's part, as the charging port is on the bottom .....Yah well, after I saw this I started laughing so hard as I can't believe I didn't figure this out. I found this cuz I was searching to see if the kickstand could be modded. You may have all seen it but I figured I would share it anyway
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tU5zVK5j9tc
It actually tells you that in the manual but no one reads them lol.
I freaking love my kickstand, it even does portrait (on stable level surfaces)
Sent from my Photon 4G via Tapatalk 2
I can't believe they had to put that in the manual to start with. Kinda common sense....
what manual? ha ha
wow -_- I'm kind of mad i never tried this before lol
It's still poor design. The kickstand is strong enough, but if you have a coiled charging cable, it will still pull it over as those cords sort of retract on their own. It will pull it down.
The real problem is my car charger. Not an issue since my Otterbox Defender made it too wide for the cradle (which my wife loves, because now she gets exclusive access to it), but the charger port being on the left means if I'm charging in the car, the charging cable has to reach not only up from the cigarette lighter to the console, but around to the left. Charger on the left would only make sense in an English car, where the driver is on the right and would mount the phone on the right side of the console. I can do reverse portrait in CM9 (and possibly other ROMs) to get it on the right, but then it's on the lower right... right where the cradle grabs the phone, so that's a no go.
Speaking of the Otterbox Defender, neat feature on the belt clip, if you pull the actual clip out all the way, it locks in place, so the belt clip has a stand. Portrait mode works best, and it looks great. I can set it by my computer, and if something happens, I see it right away.
Actually the cable makes sense for those that do not use a cradle but still want the phone plugged in...in America anyway.
