I want to do a factory reset so my data works so can someone tell me a easy way to backup my contacts and sms
And if i remember right the market kind of backs up my apps, but if i am wrong please tell me

Not sure about SMS, but Gmail and Verizons Backup Assistant both can backup your contacts.

the backup assistant gives me an error about not connecting to server, and how do i use gmail for it?

There are apps for backing up texts. They all have generic names like SMS backup. I've used them a few times then realized I don't really need to save my texts. Your contacts should be synced to your GMAIL account though.

When you are at the start-up screen it will ask if you are a new user or have an existing Google account. Once you sign in it will start syncronizing your mail and contacts.

When you make contacts on your phone, you are given a option to make a phone contact or google.contact. always choose google contact. Check options>accounts and sync, make sure all is set to sync, which it is defaulted to sync on its own...doesnt hurt to check.
But when you wipe your phone or get a different android phone, during the setup process you enter your gmail info to setup your phone. Your gmail will sync, you can browse the market...but the best part is that the calander and google contacts will auto download.
So log on to your computer and check gmail and see if your contacts are there, then you should be set

easiest thing to do, and I am amazed noone has mentioned it, is to use an app called MyBackup Root.
You can backup call log, SMS, MMS, Contacts(if you have ones google doesn't save for you), apps, and app data.
I have always preferred this to Titanium Backup

ok, got it all backed up, but where is that factor reset option, i cant find it anywhere but i know i saw it earlier.

Email backup software?

So I currently use PIMBackup to backup contacts/call logs/messages etc every time I reflash.
My question is...is there anything out there that will backup my email accounts and settings too? Currently, if I use PIMBackup and backup my email messages from all 5 of my email accounts, when I go to restore them with PIMBackup afterward, it errors out because the email accounts are not set up yet. So, in order for it to work, I have to create all the accounts again, then restore the messages.
Any ideas?

Sign up for their free push email and never have to use pimbackup ever again. It'll sync contacts, calendar, tasks and email on a push basis. You can use m2w as aggregator for your 5 email accounts.
Or, use IMAP and just leave the data on the server...

You can also use Sprite Backup and it will do the same as PIM backup and restore your message accounts and messages. You can also restore OS and programs or merge Roms and programs at varying levels. Downside I have noticed is the average backup file is like 30mb each, but is self loading and even if you dont have the program on the phone, it will extract and be fully functional just with backup file.

First time rooting. Problems with contacts

I just rooted my stock 2.1 hero, and plashed froyo FusionRom on it. Before I root, I installed an application from the market that will backup my contacts as a .csv file. now how do i load my contacts again? I tried importing them to my gmail account and then syncing my phone to google contacts, but i still don't see any contacts appearing. The strange thing is when I call/get a call from someone who used to be in my contacts list, his name appears in the Call Log tab. But not in the contacts tab???
So how do people who flash many roms deal with this problem?? I mean I can insert the contacts manually by creating a contact and filling their phone numbers one by one (all 255 of them) but that doesn't look like something I want to do each time i load a new rom.

Google contacts syncs all mine down from the cloud every time
So you put them into gmail, now go into google contacts on your PC and see if you can see them there. If so, check the settings on your google account in your phone's settings menu, and be sure it's syncing contacts to the phone from that account.
You can open a .csv with any spreadsheet application (i.e. excel) - just add them to your gmail contacts online and they'll sync up.

If a contact is categorized as a 'Google contact', which means its synced, then deleting it from your phone means to delete it in the Google Contact service.
Syncing in this case does not mean to restore a deleted contact, but to delete the contact on every device that is synced to your Google Contact service.
If you keep seeing that contact coming back, then there must be some thing wrong with your settings.
can u plz explain how to make a contact google contact
You should be asked when you are about to create the contact. However for an existing contact, I don't know whether there is a way to do that.

contacts

ok when i go in to edit any of my contacts on my photon it is showing google contacts then under that it shows phone contacts Unsynced. it use to never show this way on any contacts. It use to just show google contacts which is what i want to use. because the phone contacts thing shows the same as the google contacts. is there any way to get ride of all the phone contacts unsynced with out having to edit all 200+ contacts?
Also what is the difference between the two?
Also its showing the addresses twice now as well, is there any way to fix that or is that part of the google contacts/phone contacts unsynced problem?
You have some contacts saved on your phone storage, but they are not synced with your Google account and may not be there. If you have them all on your Google account also, just remove them all from the unsynced storage with a batch delete app.
If you don't have them on your Google account, go to the phone contacts and export them to your sdcard. Then import them from the sdcard into Google contacts. Now, once you're sure you have those contacts on your Google account, if you still have the "phone contacts unsynced", delete them using a batch delete app. But first make sure you have them on your Google contacts.
Let us know how it goes.
Have a nice day!
I just ended up doing a reset through the recovery option and it fixed it. Thanks for the help.

Restoring factory settings while keeping contacts?

Hello everyone.
My phone started behaving weird.. it keeps switching to vibrate by itself. I'm not sure yet whats causing this but I searched around and I found that it might be caused be some app. So I'm thinking about restoring factory settings, but I want to keep my contacts intact.
The thing about my contacts is that I spent a lot of time joining people's phone numbers with emails, Facebook accounts.. etc.. I tried to export a backup using Contacts app but it said some info fields might be lost. So I'm wondering if there is a way to keep contacts as s after resetting the device.
Thanks in advance,

Go into Settings > Accounts and make sure all of the ones you have contacts with are synced and if you have some that are just stored on the phone only, make sure to sync to your Google account.
Will this keep Facebook, and other profiles linked to their contacts in the contact app?
Also, I deleted some Facebook contacts from my contacts app. If I synced Facebook app, will this remove the contacts from my Facebook account,? or re-adding them again to the contact app?

When you install the Facebook app back to your phone after factory reset and login. It will ask you to sync your contacts with the Facebook Profiles. In other words. This will link your contacts with the Facebook profiles on your friends list. And no it will not remove the contacts from your Facebook.

But note that when I installed fb app and synced contacts with the fb profiles, most profiles (I believe the ones that had no phone number) were not linked to contacts. I had to use the Join feature in Contacts app to link them one by one. I wouldn't have to do it again, would I?

Yes you would they don't save joined. Most just in case you don't install one of the apps again.
There is no way to do what your looking to do without redoing them.
