Is it necessary to calibrate after flashing a new kernel?
Not really. I found my battery life is better after I flashed the new voodoo kernel by jt. If you do have some bad battery life, it would be suggested you do calibrate your battery.
how do you calibrate your battery also i notice after i charge my battery all nite the next morning i start off with either 99 or 98 percent any reason why???
Calibration of the battery isn't really required if you flash at 100% each time.

This is expected behavior designed to protect the life of your battery. basically what happens is your phone will charge to 100%. It's not good for a li-on battery to stay at that stress level so the phone will then allow the battery to discharge to 95%. Once it hits 95% you will start charging back up to 100% and the process will repeat. If the phone didn't do this the battery would degrade much more rapidly.

I'm on Axura 2.2.7.2 and have horrible battery life no matter what battery I use.
For example, my battery percent is at 63% right now:
4h 48m 38s since unplugged
Display 90%
WiFi 5%
Cell Standby 3%
Phone idle :1%
The weird thing is that I don't really use it a lot either. I used it for maybe 20 minutes max. Talked on the phone for 5 minutes, made about 10 texts, and checked the time from my phone thats it.
Also, I'm using Zeam launcher, could that be the problem?
Please give me some tips on how to maximize my battery life.
You have to calibrate your battery. Download Battery Calibration from the market first, then kill your phone all to like 5%. Charge your phone all the way up to 100%
Then click on the calibrate button on the Battery Calibration app. You should be good after that. Make sure your unplug after calibrating and die the phone down again, and then charge is back to 100%

please go to settings / about phone / battery use and post what is consuming most of your battery so we can help u better knowing what the problem is.
there are a lot of ways of improving battery. the best 4 me so far is a custom kernel that allows undervolting which helps a lot without affecting performance. underclocking if u want to go the extra mile, and lowering brightness helps too since our screens are battery hogs.

Battery Life Help
Under Volting does not work for me...Making sure I run the battery down all the way and charge it full most of the time especially after deleting battery stats.
So I have just flashed the CM7 ICS Themed BETA, wiping everything.
I then charged to 100 percent, and used Battery Calibration app.
I have just setup some apps, and I have lost 10% battery life in 40 minutes
Display is using 85% battery life apparently.
Please help?
It can take up to a week to fully calibrate the battery. Since the battery doesn't have memory the phone has to get a feel for how much juice it actually has. Try it for a few days running the battery down and then charging it to full without unplugging. If that doesn't work you might want to try charging all the way then reflashing and immediately do a calibration.

Yeah, I'd calibrate the battery - wouldn't hurt.
Ideally always flash on a 100 % full battery to avoid problems like yours..

Cheers guys I've taken this all on board.
I'm on 13hrs on battery, its showing 16pc. Battery calibration app shows 3609mv however. This doesn't seem right to me. Am I correct in assuming the phones battery power is the mv listed and no battery is more like 100mv??
Could anyone explain the 'mv' term to me?
Is 0mv when it powers down? Is this indicative of power?

Lithium ion batteries never fully discharge. If they did the battery would not recharge again.

mv referers to mV, as in Milivolt. Most li-ion batteries are rated at 3.7V or 3700mV. A nominal full charge should be around 4.2V or 4200mV.

That's 35 minutes of active use. 10% isn't outside the realm of the possible.
I usually can go a full day on 60% battery, but this morning Facebook, the interwebs and text messaging put me from 100% to 77% in the course of 30 minutes. Draining 10% in 45 minutes does not seem out of the realm of possibility
I get mine to last around 20-26 hrs on a single charge, of course depending on use. but i hardly leave the house and dont use it a whole lot. One thing to make sure of is setting up profiles on SetCPU and/or undervolting. i just posted my setup on another thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20284361&postcount=28
so after you clicked the battery calibration button and it said calibration successful, you're wondering why the battery is dropping so fast under use right away?
Easy answer my friend, when you first use the battery calibration app, the first cycle (when phone is being used) will always drain a lot faster than the 2nd and 3rd time around.
The battery calibration app, wipes the battery stats, and makes a new one, however that does take at least 1 - 2 times of a full charge/discharge of the battery. There is a battery tread in the atrix general forum i believe for cailbration steps, etc to go about successfully doing a complete calibration when flashing from rom to rom.

Hmm, maybe I am just upset that I have to charge every night.
Coming from a BlackBerry 9780 I could go 2 days with semi-heavy use.
I am now using the official Motorola cable, and only charging from very low to full.

Problem Solved.
Bluetooth radio was killing my battery. WiFi is fine leaving it on as it disables in stand by, but bluetooth was absolutely draining everything.

I agree, 10% loss in 40 minutes of active usage is not bad. If the OP had better battery life before he flashed to new ICS themed CM7 beta rom, maybe the new rom is to blame??? I'd OC/UV, possibly with the latest faux123 kernel.

,this is how i calibrate my battery,before i have 45min of standby it will decrease from 100% to 99% but now it is 2hours & 34min before it go from 100% to 99%,i felt the drain after 2 weeks of overusing my phone (1week playing paladog and 1 week flashing different roms,kernels and theming my phone with different launchers),
- Charge your phone to 100% while it’s on.
- Unplug it from the charger, power off, then charge for 15 minutes with it in a powered off state.
- Unplug charger from phone. Power it on, and then charge 15 minutes while the phone is on.
- Calibrate battery using battery calibration by NéMa then unplug charger reboot.
- Power on, charge for 15 minutes then unplug.
- Finished.
note: deleting battery stats(calibrating) don't increase your batterylife said by others and it is just a placeboo and i believe in them,but it fix my battery drain so why don't we give it a try,there is nothing to lose,battery drain is so annoying.

1% decrease in 2hours and 38 mins,as you can see i didnt fully left it in standby,i use it for text sometime,and also my phone signal is not that strong,but that's a best battery life 5+hours still 100%,^^,thumbs up to lewa i use it too,the m4 and m6,m7 is uploading now,^^

First and foremost, a Google engineer debunked the idea that batterystats.bin has anything to do with how the phone charges. By deleting it, you're actually inconveniencing yourself, as there will be a short period in which you won't have accurate stats.
Secondly, the O1 has a lithium ion battery. Lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries don't need to be calibrated, as they have no "memory" effect (you can read more on that here).
Moreover, these batteries have built in charge circuits that protect and regulate the battery. Ever wonder how the phone knows the battery temperature? It's pulling it off the charge circuit. That same circuit also prevents the battery from ever being overcharged or discharged fully, which is why that convoluted guide about calibrating your battery by draining it to "empty" and then recharging it to full doesn't work. Worse yet, intentionally draining your battery is actually counter-intuitive, as lithium-based cells wear more as their percentage of discharge increases (you'd be hurting the battery in your effort to calibrate it).
Your instructions aren't detrimental, so if it works for you, go for it. However, based on my understanding of these batteries, it seems to me that this procedure is inconsequential.
Besides, a new battery for the O1 is only $6 USD on Amazon or Ebay.
im using this Battery Calibration and the directions say to "let the device fully discharge after calibration, and then charge it to 100% without break"...and the voltage meter should read around 4200 mV on a normal battery.
i read that my battery should be calibrated after any new rom i flash? has anyone else done this or does it? i just calibrated it and am on the part of the process where right after i "calibrated" it, im supposed to discharge all of the battery (where i am at now) and then after that im supposed to fully charge it again. but i noticed that my battery (after i pushed the 'calibrate' button) has reached down to 30% alot faster than before the calibration. is this only because its still "learning" since this is its first full charge after the calibration and itll be faster after it learns? or should i not even have bothered and this is just a waste of time? thanks.
ps. and during the first run after the calibration (during the "learning" part) is it ok to turn on all my features so my batter will drain faster so i can finally recharge it and be done with it or just let it drain thru how i would use it normally? cuz the app says after i calibrate it, then let battery discharge completely and then charge it one last time.
I actually used this app and it did work for me. My battery lasts much longer. It shouldn't matter how its drained.

of course in most cases I will not do this trick but for battery recalibration since my phone battery indicator is totally a joke
I wanna give it a shot just once but I am worried because somebody says it will harm the battery life or even worse, let it dead(neither turned on nor charged). and many people also swear by completely discharging the battery all the way down and recharge it to 100% from time to time to reset the battery stat and have it work as it used to
so these two claims are contradictory each other so one of them is wrong.

First of all, completely draining your battery could damage your phone and would reduce your battery lifespan. I recommend you to stop using the phone when the battery drops to 5-15%.
And battery calibration is 100% myth. Battery calibration just removes batterystats.bin and re-generate a new one. Android does the same once our device is fully charged.

well you're true but not all about the battery calibration,there another method which work and not a myth.the method is by charging upto the devices's limit voltage it can hold,you may have seen about "please charge your device 10 minutes more" its actually calibrating the phone's battery.but dont too overcharge it,it may get damaged,so be careful.

You mean trickle charging? It's for stabilize battery's voltage.
