[Q]To buy or not to buy this phone :) - TG01 General

hey everyone
i've got chance to trade my htc diamond for tg01 but i sold it before(it was brand new) so i've got cash now. i see prices here around like 100euro for used tg01's so i wish to know if it's worth buyin it.
i'm usually hd2 guy(using it 1,5 year) so how do these devices compare(seeing pretty close specs). would you buy it again if you have choice?
hoping to hear first-hand
thanks

tg01 has near same hd2 specs, has a good resistiv 4,1" lcd. here is often the problem, devices around 100euro has scratches on PLASTIC screen. for 150 - 180 you can get a well-kept device and this is worth. with a good modified custom ROM is a good and fast WinMo device. ROM flashing is very quick and easy- this make a great fun.
you have a grat choice of different ROMs and Radios .i would buy it again (i have actuall 3x tg01, 1x very used, 1x good and 1x exellent)
pozdrav, miro

yes it is a great device to mess rouund with and it has loads of fun roms. it will go well with your hd2. both have nearly the same specs. get one!

thanks guys will ask for pics etc and then see. guy said he bought phone in germany 6m ago, so we'll see
i saw rom flashing.. damn that's simple, no hspl's and ****, like good old omnia i had before hd2. but this is pretty brickable right? i mean flashing hd2 with corrupted(or even empty-task29)rom results only stuck boot(and reflash as concequence)

An excellent device in nearly all respects. As indicated above, is easy to flash and has opened up all sorts of opportunities for development both large and small.
Good resistive screen - one key reason I went for the TG01 - enables handwriting recognition and detailed pointing with the stylus when you want it, but also pretty sensitive for finger touch also when preferred (trick is setting screen sensitivity in registry, either manually to taste or via a generic .cab). Best of both worlds really, while the now almost ubiquitous capacitive screen is of course incapable of screen writing.
Main regrets are:
- Lack of a 3.5mm audio jack, but a suitable dongle works OK in the uUSB port
- Inability to charge while using the USB port for audio out
But both of these can be addressed by using a Bluetooth headset adapter, thus freeing the uUSB port for connection to an external device (eg. charging or perhaps an external hard drive, memory stick, etc.)
Definitely a very respectable piece of kit which continues to have significant potential
Best regards,
Kevin

iphone Vs. XDA ATOM

As for the performance and speed, Iphone is good. The looks also is fantastic and stylish. If you are a music lover, the ipod function w/ builtin 8gb or 4 gb storage is good enough to play your favorite songs for long time. Touch & scrolling is fantastic. So for me iphone is a simple phone, ipod & very less PDA function. Why? a lot of us is using Windows Mobile since we have PC mobile. Iphone is a OS X system, a system based from MAC OS. You can count the program that iphone have that you use before. I need Isilo but this program cant run to Iphone. The only advantage I can see is the safari browser & youtube. If you are on the wifi, browsing thru ur iphone is superb. That's it. The only main thing here is the HYPE of having an Iphone. Yet I can say that it will now give you so much headache regarding bugs except to 3rdparty program that not yet really made for iphone. To be fair, Iphone is a great phone with IPOD, period ;-) Maybe after more months, we can now enjoy a lot of program on iphone that we use to enjoy in our windows mobile.
Well About XDA ATOM (Atom Pure for me) , this is one of the goodwindows mobile i've seen. This became great because of Jiggs ROM. No more words i can say, in terms of PDA function and everything, this is great PDA Phone. There are cons but as a whole package its good. In my own opinion, its better than HTC touch. IF i compare this in IPHONE, this have a better PDA function.
So the conclusion, which one you want to buy? or which one will stay on ur palm. Its up to your needs and wants. IT's UR CHOICE, both have good side.
Thats why i have both;-) hehehe just kidding.
One of the thing about music is.. how much music can it play? I'm using Storage card, and default WMP, which gives me about 20% battery per hour. So, that is, if I have a full charge, and wanted to leave 20% of battery for the phone function, that would take me.. about 4 hours. It may be less than that because that time, I was on the train, which it gets connect/disconnect which may make it to 4.5 - 5 hours. How does the iPhone one this? Consider their 8G capacity.
However, having said, with all the functionality of WM phone, I still think the non-instant, hour-clock waiting of WM is still an issue. A lot of Palm users like to stick to Palm mainly due to the fact that Palm OS has an instant responds (most of the time).. rather than WM's short wait.

pda freaks like us may find the iphone lacking with the 3th party software limitations but that could change but there are still many more wm apps out now
for
normal phone users
i think they miss t9 and maybe mms
but i does look cool though

wow all moderators are coming to comment on this. Do you love IPHONE? hehehe
love it a strong word
but i think many of us like that new innovation and competition is brougth to the table to keep ms, htc and the rest on their toes
yeah, this will make other pda brand and maker be better and compete to iphone. Look out HTC, they introduce TOUCH. well having an iphone to the market benefits the consumer not only iphone users.

O2 XDA Flame Against Apple iPhone Comparison
http://www.iphoneworld.ca/iphone-editorials/2007/02/20/o2-xda-flame-against-apple-iphone-comparison/
o2 XDA flame compare to IPHONE...LOL how about our XDA atom? hehehe
O2 ATOM is better!
Form factor, O2 ATOM is actually smaller compared to the IPHONE; eventhough the IPHONE is alot slimmer.
O2 ATOM is pretty nice to hold once I put the black rubberized covers on it to protect it.
The cool things I like about the ATOM are -
1) Its on a platform that provides lots of apps to play with.
2) I like the fact that our ATOM has A2DP which allows for Stereo bluetooth headphones.
3) The Radio function is really nice to have.
4) Now with HTC Touch cube working on the ATOM, its for finger friendly than before and easier to navigate around apps, etc.
5) With the new HTC T9 Keypad, I can SMS without using my stylus anymore!
ATOM is a all-round champion for its price and features/functions!
The smooth IPhone graphics is overrated anyway. Plus there's alot of copy-cat apps that mimic the Iphone themes on PocketPC environment.
Plus I find the Iphone a little too long for my liking. ATOM is still nice to hold and comes with a pretty zippy processor!

Help me win my Athena Bet

I have and love a Kaiser. Right now I have a Dutty Rom on it and love it as I commute, on a train, about 3 hours a day.
Anyway, I made a bet (6 pack of beer) that I can use an Athena for a week instead of the Kaiser. [We have one that sits unused in our office]. I have the Black Rom on it and wasn't overly excited when I made the change.
What should I install to ease my life and win my bet?
Use TCMP for videos, the Athena has a nice big screen. Both the NetFront pre release and Opera leaked alphas are good for browsing the internet. I would recommend using RealVGA if you would like to really utilize the large screen, 96 DPI is awesome. Compared to the Kaiser the Athena has a bigger screen, more storage and at least on paper a faster processor. I personally use a software keyboard and ditch the magnetic one to reduce to size of the Athena.
does the RealVGA thing work on the kaiser also?

No, Kaiser isn't a VGA device and if it were, the 400MHz Qualcom would struggle. It would probably be dog slow.
what a stupid bet
Well ok, I no longer have an Athena and I got rid of my TyTn 2 after a week so perhaps it's not my place to comment..
BUT WHAT THE HELL KIND OF BET IS THIS????
Fine, the Athena is a bit big, but what the hell is your problem with applications? IT'S THE SAME OPERATING SYSTEM so it shouldn't be much of a hardship unless you're an absolute doink.
Perhaps a better challenge might have been to live with a Motorola StarTAC for a week....or even a Nokia 6210.
Tsk.

Hmmmm not so sure. Maligned as it might be I can't help but love the old N95 classic. I've got an 8gb card for it and it's the most satisfying phone I've ever used....still. it even has embedded flash support and an accelerometer so the screen rotates automatically when i turn the phone.
Unfortunately there's nothing in the Windows Mobile world to touch it yet - I'm very much a multimedia guy and there's nothing comes close to the carl zeiss optics of the N95, the 30fps video, the flash support, the hardware acceleration, the huge array of multimedia applications and (finally) proper GPS support with Garmin XT or Route66.
The nearest phone to the N95 in the windows mobile world is probably the TyTn 2 and i'll never go back to that again:it's an inferior toy in comparison.
I'd wager a bet you can't list five things i'd do on a Kaser that I can't do on an N95 (aside from the obvious outlook calender issue which is not an issue for someone like me who doesn't use outlook)
one day i'll be back though no doubt.

leoni1980 maybe you could be more specific. What do you do with your Kaiser and why do you like it? Why weren't you happy with the black rom on the Athena? Why is there an expectation of hardship/w Athena?
You said that there was a train commute. So . . .your thinking entertainment? To "ease your life,"; since we know nothing about you or your life that's a hard one. Don't you think?
In general: Windows mobile devices are all-in-one mobile devices that do alot of things ok/good. In my opinion, they rarely do anything specificly the best. Read e-books--likely the kindle does it better. Listen to music--buy an ipod. Surf the net--desktop or laptops are more powerful. And so on.
So you need to figure what it is you like to do. Then evaluate whether windows mobile fits your needs. Then tweak the Athena in that direction with hardware and/or software.
Seems alot of work for one week.
If I had a three hour commute, I'd surf the one-day deal sites, & winmobile/news sites. I'd read e-books, listen to music and do writing. Maybe listen to sleepy music/set my alarm and take a nap. I don't even use the phone side, rarely watch movies, have no use for a pim.
Another guy would want to chat on the phone, and watch tv. Still another guy would want to sms, play games . . .
Keep track of your time, finances, diet, movie collection, appointments . . . Facebook, chatrooms, twitter, look at porn, read the Bible . . .
I mean . . . you can do all kinds of things.

Orange have offered this as DMR for HD.. What to do?

Hi.
I have been offered a TG01 as a DMR for the Touch HD
I know little about the TG01.. so I would like input from your guys.
Anyone gone from a Touch HD to one?
Does it support Line 1 / Line 2?
Upgrade is avail to official 6.5
How are the cooked roms performing?
How does Tomtom behave with the acceleromter?
Performance?
Playback?
DLNA?
Network playback?
Built in Divx handling?
I also hear that you can plug in a USB stick and have that readable from the phone? if so, can you playback video from it?
Any info on this phone would be good...
Thanks Guys

Anyone gone from a Touch HD to one?
i went from diamond to tg01, good change
Does it support Line 1 / Line 2?
if you mean 2 sim cards then no, if you mean 2 numbers on one sim card, im not sure
Upgrade is avail to official 6.5?
yep, through toshiba website but try the cooked roms for a the newest build of 6.5.5 (much better performance and features and less ugly
How are the cooked roms performing?
as above, there doing really well, nokser is working on a project with lesscro for a truly nice looking rom, aragon has got some nice roms out with manilla sense for the 'oooh' factor and no doubt, many others will be popping up
How does Tomtom behave with the acceleromter?
wouldnt know but it works with the built-in gps if you use gpsgate with it. do a search for it
Performance?
its a 1ghz phone! its nippy, but not on the stock rom, to much bloat for it. i highly suggest using aragons 6.5.5 rom with manilla to see the best performance/stability. and games are brilliant on the massive screen
Playback?
i have watched whole films in divx and xvid with coreplayer and it has the best performance, hardly any dropped frames and it plays back silky smooth
audio is good with aragons rom, not so good on stock rom
DLNA?
no it cant sequence dna?
Network playback?
if you mena local play then im not sure as i have not used that feature, but online play is fine, youtube is a treat
Built in Divx handling?
yes but its through coreplayer, it hasnt got a dedicated divx app. it wil lplay most audio and video codecs available, and for the ones it misses, you can just install them.
and yes, you can plug in a usb stick and use it to watch films from, but this will kill your battery. you can also plug in a keyboard and mouse, other phones as mass storage devices, on youtube they have a tg01 being used as a babyscan machine ( i forget what there called) with a usb wand
its a kick ass little (lol) phone
im quite interested in this as i am getting a new handset offered to me on saturday when phone them back up and tell them my phone is messing me around again. i have a tg01 so it would be interesting to see what they offer me? any thoughts?
Thanks...
I think i need to know people who have moved from a HD to this... or what would a HD owner do>?
Would you move to a TG01 if your HD was buggered,
PS... If you have a fault on your HD right now with Orange.. they are out of stock...so they give you a TG01
The TG01 has the same spec has the HTC HD2, just the screen is resistive and .2 of an inch smaller (it is still pretty huge at 4.1").
Ive used the memory stick with it and you can play video using it, but you then cant use headphones as it doesnt have a 3.5mm jack. It needs the adaptor for the micro usb port. It is supplied with an 8GB microSD card anyway, so you can store quite a few on there.
Also custom ROMs can now be flashed to the TG01, Im personally running Novembres R2 6.5.5 ROM with SPB Mobile Shell on top and it is quick as hell. I would say go for it mate!
Say no to tg.
Till date am using tg01, flashed as many roms possible but am not satisfied with this piece, stay away go ffor x10 or hd2 or blacckstone. tg01 is a flop be careful. supposed to get lainched in india but didnt work ouut. wait u will get iphone 4g by another two months.
I did, the phone is a pile of you know what, I'm getting my 3rd one tomorrow, keyboards are unresponsive when texting, the speaker distorts when in a call, Not happy, stay away...
I was given a TG01 as a replacement for my ailing TouchHD (BlackStone). There are *always* advantages and disadvantages to ANY handset you might choose, so research and see which is best FOR YOU.
For me - it was really 50/50 - advantages of big screen, fast CPU etc, were put off by terrible battery life, and awful stock ROM.
The poster who writes about awful audio quality, this is greatly improved in newer ROMs, although, honestly, it's still not impressive, and I think this is a limitation of the audio hardware (speaker and amp) built in.
The biggest two negative issues for me were battery life, and the single micro-USB plug for EVERYTHING. Others say it's too thin and too big - it does feel somewhat like it will snap if you inadvertently leave it in your back pocket.
Do I regret handing in my TouchHD, to get a TG01? No. I think it was a good move, and with all the cooked ROMs coming up now, thanks to all the guys working on them, I think the TG01 is about ready for a rebirth.
To concede with another poster though, to get the best from it, as it stands NOW, you'd need to be looking at one of the 6.5.5 ROMs available.
As a final aside, if you search around on here, you'll see that the 8GB MicroSD that Tosh send with the handset is, quite literally, TOSH. It's useless, and causes many problems. If I were you, I'd keep the one from your Touch HD. I did!!
Ok - that wasn't the FINAL aside - this one is: if Orange send you the TG01 as a replacement for your faulty TouchHD, you will only get it in a little bag. You will get the essential accessories (USB Cable, USB Host, Charger, Stylus, CD) - but you do NOT get any retail packaging.
Right, I'm done.

[Q] CyanogenMod for Cube U9GT-2

Hi xda-Members,
I have a simple question:
Is the Cube U9GT-2 compatible with CyanogenMod?
I've got Gingerbread on my tablet, but I'm not really satisfied with this OS, maybe because it's developed for smartphones and not tablets.
Greets Meldamos
Hi.
Unfortunately I cannot help with your question. All I know is that some people are experimentinig with ICS (Android 4.0) on the U9GT-2, and there is a beta firmware for it if you would like to give it a try.
I am also thinking of buying one of these tablets. I found it for 230 Euros (=290 USD, =190 GBP). I was just about to press the "Add to cart" button when I saw your post.
What do you thing about this tablet? Do you have it long? Are you happy?
Also can you please PM me with the information of where you bought it from and if you were happy with the transaction (if it was an online buy)?
Thanks
Little review of U9GT-2
Well I have this tablet for 2-3 Weeks now and I don't regret it. I bought this tablet over an online-shop called cect-shop, because the support is in german and it has a warranty of 1 year. And there it costs 200€ with 25€ express shipment (there in 3 days from china to germany ^^) and 25€ toll. All in all I paid around 250€, much cheaper than here in germany where it starts at 350€ up to 700€ and not almost on a level of the capacity this tablet has. By the way if you ask cect-shop, they'll send you a stylus pen with your tablet for free.
The tablet uses Android 2.3 with Honeycomb style, not bad but could be better. The OS seems not to be build for battery saving, because the power runs of after 2-3 days in standby.
I asked the manufacturer about ICS and got the answer that they're working on it, but still need time to finish the compatibility with U9GT-2. They'll publish it on their homepage I think.
On the look it get often mistaken with an Apple iPad but it's not exactly like one. The capacitive display works fine, it discerns up to 10 fingers but you are not using 10 finger actually ^^
The sound is pretty good I think, even if I don't really know how the standard quality of tablets are. The big trouble is like I said the OS. But it's a thing you can change and does not affect the quality of this tablet.
If anyone has precise questions feel free to ask. I'm not good at writing a review.
Thanks for the valuable info.
Few questions more if you are kind enough:
1. Can you confirm the manufacturer's site? I have found one web address in China and never managed to connect
2. Can you confirm the thickness of it? Is it realy less than 10mm? Does it actually feel like an i-pad when you are carrying it around?
3. The material on the back side is it realy aluminium?
4. I have noticed that on different sites they give slightly different specs from cect.Ie pandawill gives a CPU of 1Ghz, thickness of 7mm and battery capacity 8000mAh, though cect gives 1.2Ghz, 9.7mm and 7600MAh. This is a problem with the Chinese sites / products / clones I guess... Nevertheless, since you are in Germany, you must have heard or seen an Easypix Easypad, have you? I am between the cube and the Easypad 970 (at easypix.eu). They look very similar. Do you have any personal feedback on that ?
5. Finally, does the screen look and feel like being IPS or not?
Sorry if I bother you too much, but it's the first time I buy a gadget withut actually testing or seeing one, so I am a bit concerned. Thanks

Okay let's start:
1. Yes the manufacturer is available. There are also 2 supporter for questions available via skype. They're on workdays online so you can ask them directly. But there english seems not to be very good so better you keep your questions simple
2. I measured it now, I don't warrant than my results are exactly but they're 243mm x 190mm x 10,5mm (length x width x height). I have never had an iPad (too expensive for a tablet) but it feel very comfortable if I carry it around and it's not very heavy. I don't have a balance here but I think it's around 500-700 gram. Well it doesn't feel heavy for me that's all I can say actually.
3. YES it is aluminium and what a luck it is, because on the 3. day it got pushed against a aluminium pole and has only a really small dent left. A plastic hull would have cracked I think.
4. Don't look at the GHZ, many sellers push or fake them, maybe caused by stupidness or advertising. The U9GT-2 has a Rockchip 2918 CPU. Look for the specs on google. The battery is an advertising medium. I doesn't has 8000 mhA or even 7600 mhA. I has 2 x 4000 mhA batteries but they just sum them what they shouldn't do. Like I said the OS is not optimized for tablets and it really takes too much power in stand by. When playing you don't recognize the power loss. I played 3 hours a game called "deadly dungeon" (a dungeon crawler) and the battery has got from 63% to 49%. Well I've not saw the easypad, but they're exactly the same. They've got the same capacities and even the same OS. Throw a dice from 1-3 easypad and from 4-6 U9GT-2, that would be my solution ^^... Well I don't know if easypix is working on a ICS for easypad, just know that cube is working on it.
5. Well I don't know what you understand of a "feeling" for IPS. It looks like a monitor how you see it everywhere today. Don't know if you still have a cathode ray tube (I have one), but there is a difference. Of course, the games are sucking because they're not build for 9,7" displays . Some games are smoother with the resizing, others are bad. But the quality of the display is very good. Of course, not standard on notebooks over 15,6" (which I prefer) but for 9,7" it's high resolution.
Hope my answer could help you and other people who struggle on buying a china-tablet
PS: I've got many friends who look suspect at the tablet, like it could break every second, and I'm just smiling and laughing about their prejudices.
Fantastic answers.
Thank you very much for your effort.
I will follow your advice with the dice after the holidays
Happy Christmas

STOP!!! xD... Hope you did not buy it.
Forgot to mention that the EasyPad 970 can only use 8GB Flash HDD. U9GT-2 use 16GB! You get the double storage for the same price.
Sorry for my late answer, did not recognize the difference in the first place.
Sh*t. I bought one a few days ago
I generally know what NAND flash is, but not sure about its' importance. Mine still says 5.9 Gb free, after fully loaded with apps (I know they've got nothing to do with the NAND, but I can't seem to find a way how to run out of space in NAND). In any case, it is better to have double the capacity with the same cost, no matter what.
By the way, that NAND is some soldered microchip, or it can be a micro SD card on the motherboard so that it can "easily" be upgraded in the future if the need arises?
Nevertheless, I am happy with the tablet. Already rooted and experimenting. A couple of snags though, but I will find my way around them hopefully.
By the way, is there a way to hard - reset the tablet by hardware (since there is not a pin-hole or something)? Any combination of buttons pressed during power on?
The internal flash memory is installed in form of chips. Two in the Cube, as can be seen at tabletrepublic.com/forum/android-tablet-reviews/disassembling-cube-u9gt2-414.html, presumably one in the easypad. Apparently the 8GB of the easypad are partitioned in 0,5GB for apps and the rest for data while the 16GB in the Cube are partioned in 1GB for apps and the rest for data. I have read that by installing the cube firmware on the easypad 970, one can get 1 GB for apps, too. Personally, I think 8GB internally is plenty because media files (movies etc.) usually are stored on external SDHC cards anyway for fast swapping.
My 2 cents...
I recently bought one while I was in Beijing on holiday and was really amazed with the battery life with Android 2.3, considering I was streaming movies non-stop for 14 hours straight (in comparison with and iPad 2). The multi-touch keyboard sometimes has a lag although most the UI seems to be relatively smooth.
The camera located at the back also took decent pictures during day and night.
Overall this is a neat unit under $350.00 AUD considering most other units requiring a stylus or long fingernails to operate. I will be looking at rooting the device in a few weeks after I do a bit more research.
Let me know if you have modded your unit and your thoughts.
Thanks
Cube U9GT2 USB host controller issues
Hello everyone,
I'm hoping to solve a problem here, I just purchased a Cube U9GT2 Tablet 9.7
running: Android ICS 4.0.3 with a Kernel Version:3.0.8+.
With a build number: rk29sdk-eng4.03 IML74K eng-yangyun.20120108.124417 test-keys.
It came with an OTG/USB Cable and has both a USB and a USB/OTG port.
Let me just state this, I have tested all cables, ports and jump drives and have reformatted them to fat32, they were Fat32 also.
The problem I'm having is ICS can't see any jump drives I hook up to it. I installed a program from the Market called, USB Host Ctrlr. It ran a info check after install, and here is what it said:USB Host Controller Version Number:0.42 S3C USB Host Driver NOT Found! Root Hub Present. USB Host Mode is active.
I'm no developer or even a decent novas, but with decent instructions I can execute. Any ideas how to fix this, The price was Killer, when one is buying from a Chinese Company, the support is pretty limiting when you only speak English.
That's why the great price, I'm not complaining, I just want to get this resolved if possible.
In regards to the Tablet, I really like it a lot! pretty fast, smooth interface, easy to navigate, decent keyboard, (but I'm use to a smartphone).
It plays movies very nice, screen is plenty bright, It can use a Micro-sd card up to 32 gigs. Have not had any crashes yet, had it about 2 weeks. They have raised the prices about $13.00 I had to try one at that price, plus shipping was Free! I ordered it late on a Sunday night in USA, got it in 3 days DHL shipping, Hard to beat. Anyhow if anyone can help here, it sure be very appreciated. I would even be willing to pay something if reasonable.
If anyone is interested i can provide brand new AUTHENTIC CUBE U9GT2 at the price of euro 240.00.
The price include express shipping to all around the world (4-5 business days).
I am sending from European country so residents of EU will not pay additional taxes or VAT !!!
Let me know.

Would I buy a Tablet S again.....

....I think the answer to that is a resounding NO, I was willing to be patience and wait for upgrades etc to fix probs but having just upgraded to ICS Im very disappointed.
No fixes for various bugs (for me primarily wifi connection), and now I find my gps is not working for some reason, the device nearly went out of the car window yesterday when i was stuck on the A13 with no gps, but then I thought about littering .
Together with the car charging problems (had To buy an Inverter, more money), no hdmi socket no perifials, Car bracket etc, battery life, its not adding up to a good deal.
I originally bought a Ipad on the recomodations of a salesman and assurances that flash would work with it (yea right), so that went back in favour of the 'S', but what next, do I leave it at home and cut my losses (wad of dough).
Its seems that despite advances in technology we are always being used as guinepigs for devices that eventually end up on the scrap heap and never seem to last until the device is broken beyond repair but are dumped by the manufactorer in favour of another useless device, witness my Ipaq stopped supporting Windows, My Dell Streak mini 5 cant even get spares for them anymore, I could go on.
And we seem to accept it without protest almost as if its expected that we lay out loads of dosh for a inferior product, imaging the outcry if we bought cars (or other products) on the same basis, 'oh bear with us, sir, you will be able to drive from A to B as soon as we have sorted out the engin bugs'.
anyway sorry about the rant, Im still simmering from the A13 incident,
Well..
there is a reason why the most tablets still not 100% work like they should be,
Because the tablets like they are now are just still too new,
Better tabs are coming and more abillities are coming too, and then our
problems maby be fixed, Except then there are other problems because there are new things to do with a tablet and ofcourse a higher change to get problems.
I'm sorry to learn that you're upset with your tablet, maybe a tablet is not for you?
Would I buy the s again? Yes. I replaced a Windows Vista Laptop which finally died with my tablet S.
I took a long hard think about what I actually used my laptop for before purchase. Mainly sofa surfing, emails Facebook etc.More importantly it was to have this ability on the move. The small amount of application work could be relegated to my old desktop. I help run another website which has some flash parts so I that meant could not get an i-pad, besides I hate i-tunes.
With the S I'm now able to control my hifi with one device, manage DNLA media on my server, check up on emails and social networking and sofa surf all from one little lightweight and highly portable device. Chuck in free SatNav with Navfree also.
Most android devices could do all this to a certain extent however the IR and playstation integration made the Sony the only choice for me. I also find the screen a higher quality and the shape nicer to use.
Minor bugbears:
Direct communication with SD card socket - ICS fixes this
Lack of Sky go / MS Silverlight - will probably happen in the end
Missing MS Excel - some partial success with apps but would really like a proper MS version.
Would like it to be a bit nippier
Nice said!
Now thats what you call a nice short review. +1
To be honest, it seems like most of those problems could have been avoided with just a little research before you bought. Obviously, different tablets suit different people and if you wanted HDMI-out, lots of weird peripherals and a car bracket, you should've bought a Toshiba Thrive or a Samsung Galaxy Tab.
The Sony's features and advertised purpose are well-known and it is obviously meant to be a media device, and it excels at that. I'm not sure why your battery is not good, but mine far outlasts my iPad's. As for peripherals, as far as I'm concerned, if it'
s got mini-USB which can be turned into full-size USB with a short cable, thats all the peripherals I'm ever going to need.
I respect your opinion and your choice and for the record I don't have any WiFi problems and haven't upgraded to ICS (waiting for official) so I can't comment on that.
However, it seems as if many of your criticisms (including those of other disappointed Tablet S owners) could've been solved by a tiny bit of Internet research and some forethought about your buying choices.
In short, it seems harsh to blame the tool, if you're using the wrong tool for the job that you wanted
Sorry for the rant, but I love mine and am often mystified by these disappointed stories.
I have to agree with the above! I love mine because I did a lot of research before I bought it and realised the sony was the one for me. Does the iPad have hdmi out? I don't know I don't buy into all the apple crap. But if it doesn't then why bring it up. Like said earlier, if that's what you were after there's plenty of devices on the market that could have fulfilled your needs.

-GPS problem is more of an Android problem, the SGS Tab and most phones have crappy GPS as well.
-The wifi issue is hardly a bother, come on. The tablet S literally takes a second to reconnect when you open up the display. It's really quick. How much do you really NEED wifi when the screen is off? Would it be great? Yes, but is it a dealbreaker? hardly not.
-I have no idea what you are talking about about peripherals. The tablet has a full sized SD card slot. I cant think of any other tablet which does. The MicroUSB does the job for connecting as well.
-Battery life has been good for me, even better than the iPad 2.
People can whine and complain all they want, but at the end of the day it is your fault for not researching more about a tablet that would suit your needs. You can't whine about the tablet not having an HDMI slot if you had a choice to choose one that did. Sony never lied and never stated that there was an HDMI slot. Battery life has never been a problem for most people, even the reviewers say the battery life is great. I agree, though, that the charger is retarded.
That said, it seems that those who complain about the Tablet S are expecting too much from the tablet. Sony have been very upfront about what it can and cannot do, and reviews have put this in the top 5 tablets for a reason. It's easy to criticize what something doesn't have, but people forget the good things about a device (SD card slot, great screen, universal remote, playstation etc.)
I am very happy for my table S and would definitely bye it again.
I have actually thought of buing a second as this one is so heavily in use.
I hated mine for the first couple months. Never had any probs with the hardware (nor any wifi/battery issues). For me it was just a crappy slow as firmware. I said on here once that it would all be fixable with root access.
Fast forward to present with me strappin' a rooted ICS loaded Sony Tab and you're looking at one happy camper . I've even adjusted to the fact I stuffed the screen a little when it slid off my car bonnet.
Does everything I want it too and the only time I turn on a laptop anymore is use the all in one tool on it .
Yes. Yes I would.

Umm, well. Yes I would, and yes I did.
I have several tablets, a couple of Sony Tablet S's (16 & 32gb) a Samsung Galaxy 10.1, an ASUS TF101, and a couple of Kindle Fires (rooted and totally recreated as fine little tablets in their own right.) I've also had two iPads in the past, a v1, then v2 (those both went to the niece & nephew for Xmas, total kiddie ware going no-where.)
So, guess which one goes with me in the car and on the plane? Easy, the 32gb Sony. I throw the poor thing around like a paperback book, and it definitely takes a licking. Never complains a bit and still looks new. (Think airport check-ins, X-ray bins, getting banged around on plane tray tables & overhead compartments, etc.) Battery life is xlnt, the display is bright, saturated & Sony sharp, reading Kindle books is hand-natural specific, and... I can load my 64gb SDXC card with just about anything and everything.
Other than the Kindle Fires, (Kinder Panzers?) all of the other tablets I have either had (or have now,) are FRAGILE.
OK: The universal remote. I use the Sony S for everything in the house, especially the WD Lives... this thing is a godsend compared to the little piece of crap they give you for a remote! That Sony Tablet S remote feature sets up easy and remembers forever.
Also, I use either my HTC Desire or Desire HD to connect to the Internet, apply the wifi hotspot, then connect the Sony S to that. Skype calls for free. Wait, somebody say free? Internet and hands free International calls. Easy.
I could go on here, but there's plenty more.
Again, yes I would buy it again, and yes, I already did.

I have to agree with you. I mean, I like my tablet s, but I think I'm pretty tired of crappy problems/errors. I have an xperia x10i, and also there, other problems. This mainly happen because we have many different models and hw to be adapted to the operative system (this doesn't happen for ipad, just because they have a few hw models and just one corporate workin on sw). Sony produces beautiful machines and great hardware, but they always lack on software, don't know why.
