What's your android history? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering how long you guys have been with Android and what your previous devices were. How many paid apps have you purchased?
I'm just wondering because I was recently going through my market and realized I have 27 paid apps! A lot of people think that the iPhone app store is better because of numbers but how many times have iPhone users asked "can I get that on my phone?" When have you ever heard vice versa? I know they are usually better visually and are better quality apps but I like our immature android... he's growing everyday. I personally think android marketplace is the bees knees because its more intimate, you can email devs for specific bugs and requests. You have emulators... mp3 downloads I mean you name it we got it. I refer to it as the android black market. Anyways what is your android history?

Android or phones? Pre android, i had an lg flip phone that i hated. Next was the big thing for girly girls, the hot pink moto razr. Then palm centro. Started with at&ts first android, backflip. Then tried flipside (locked bootloader and no development) but quickly moved to atrix. Loved it so much, i got a second one for playing with. Was thinking of going to the atrix hd, but I dont do non removable batteries. So once moto screwed the atrix , I said im done. Samsung skyrocket is my current phone and I'll never go locked bootloader again. Have no clue how many paid apps, but quite a few. However, I have hacked quite a few more then I've owned. Those include epic 4g touch, captivate, and have an lg quantum that I cant seem to find any development for. :what:

Wow I cannot believe I actually remembered all that lol
Treo 755 > BlackBerry Storm > Droid X > Thunderbolt
LG VX6000 > Kyocera SE47 > Motorola Razr > LG VX9400 > LG Voyager > LG Dare > BlackBerry Storm (Also ordered iPhone 3GS and had for 4 months, but the service sucks so I terminated early) > Motorola Droid > HTC Incredible > Apple iPhone 4 > HTC Thunderbolt
This was from 2004 - Present.
Started off in Germany on "real" T-Mobile
Some sort of Alcatel OT-302
Nokia 3330
motorola V60i
Then I jumped ship to Vodaphone and got a Sharp GX-30 (guad band unlocked)
Got send back stateside and put that on T-Mobile USA.
Switched to a corp plan on nextel with a i355 (bullet proof) lost job, so nextell go bye bye.
After that I went to VZW on a LG VX-8100. not too bad for a dumb phone died be falling out of pocket while closing car door.
Sprint Moto Q9c then a Nextel BB 8350i (iDen BLAH!)
Back to T-mobile for a G1 (hook-up!) then got a SGS Vibrant (full non-contract price)
And we end with me back on VZW with the T-Bolt.
Similar specs to my ole SGS, but just feels 10 times faster.
Nokia ? (Back in the 90's)
Motorola v330 (reflashed software to a v551)
Motorola RZR
LG vue
Then I got smart and switched carriers
Motorola Droid 1
HTC Thunderbolt
I know I'm forgetting at least two others but I'm trying not to dwell on the bad service I once had.
A series of dumpy phones including a stone age Kyocera and some really bad feature phones, and then(starting in 2007)-> LG Voyager-> HTC Touch Pro-> HTC Droid Eris-> Motorola Droid-> Motorola Droid X-> Samsung Fascinate-> HTC Droid Incredible-> HTC Thunderbolt. In a little over one year, I've had 6 different phones -_-
Mine is in my signature.
I don't remember the first few "phones" but from an XDA relevant perspective:
HTC Wizard (Windows Mobile on TMO)
iPhone 2g (Unlocked, Jailbroken on TMO)
Droid (Rooted and running CM6 then CM7 on Verizon)
HTC Thunderbolt (Rooted but stock rom on Verizon)
Plus I have a MyTouch 3g that is unlocked and running stock TMO Froyo which I use when I travel outside of the US, and a Viewsonic G Tablet running Gingerbread.

My phones in Cambodia were all cheap bar style Nokia phones, then when I arrived back in the US I got a G1. Then I got a Samsung Vibrant, kept it for some time, learned although, then sold it, got a Nexus S, too many issues, returned it, got a MT4G, it was a good phone but too many hardware related issues, returned it after several swaps, then gave up on T-mobile, switched to Sprint, got an EVO 4G, was great but Sprint sucked, switched to Verizon, got a dinc to hold me over until the Thunderbolt dropped, returned it and got two Thunderbolts, one for me and one for he wife.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus Droid Razr HTC Raider

Hiya!
I currently have a unlocked Desire Z on telus and I've decided to switch to rogers and get a new phone, but I cant decide which of the following to get:
Galaxy Nexus
Droid Razr
HTC Raider
I cant decide between these for the following reasons. Galaxy nexus has the biggest screen and Android 4.0, Droid Razr looks the best IMO and I like the lap-dock functionality, and the HTC Raider is the only one out of the 3 that has LTE (well they all do, but in Canada the Droid Razr cant use our LTE and rogers will not be getting the LTE Galaxy nexus)
I need a phone with a big screen for the keyboard and web browsing, I spend most of my browsing time on Data and i rarley use wifi (I have a good data plan and will get the same one on rogers) I need a phone that will be tough as I drop my phone alot despite my best intentions. I also need a phone that I can root, overclock, and flash custom roms and/or kernels (keep in mind the Canadian droid razr will have an option to unlock the bootloader). The phone needs to last me through a school day (8:30-4:00)
So in your opinion, which one should I get?
Choosing between HTC Raider, Motorola RAZR and Samsung Nexus Prime
Hi,
I don't have any experience with the Raider or Nexus Prime, but very recently bought a RAZR. Within the 3.5 weeks I've had it, I've had to exchange it DOA twice (mostly WiFi issues, but also seems - in spite of being a gorgeous phone externally - to be rather poor quality build-wise, and possibly some design/engineering issues ), and am switching tomorrow to the Raider (which has quite good reviews overall).
FWIW: I can't confirm this, but have seen notes on Rogers getting the Nexus Prime sometime early 2012.

Streak rises again....(fact or fiction?)

Searching for some ics info for the streak I came across this...is it real or fake????

As the date in that article states, this is rather old news:
The SPro is slated to launch in japan in janruary.
It will ship with 2.3.4 and should hopefully recieve ICS (depends on which company made the SPro, if it's quisda dont expect ICS quickly)
Unless dell states specifically what ver of android it will come with, this is just conjecture from other sites, 2.3.4 is a common version to build to for GB
2.3.3 is too old, 2.3.6/2.3.7 are too new; so it's either going to be 2.3.4 or 2.3.5. And i'm betting it's gonna be 2.3.4
It's 4.3" and is as closely related to the s5 as the venue, ie cousins.
Will it be like a second version or the streak...will it be worth it?
Sent from my Dell Streak using xda premium
As it's gonna be import only unless you live in japan I cant say, importing imparts a large cost on top of the normal price.
It's a pretty common looking phone, it's basically a sensation XE but from dell and with stage 2.0. It could also be considered a Venue 2/Venue S as it's more aligned with that then the S5
Like with the S10 I would likely recommend against importing unless you absolutely must have it as there are many comparable devices. The S10 competes in china because it's 30% cheaper then others while having the same featureset, outside china not at all.
I cant imagine being able to import a SPro anywhere near the price of a comparable 4.3" phone
Nonetheless i'd like one for myself to hack, same reason I bought a S10.
Not for me
Screen smaller than FIVE inch is a 99% deal breaker for me.
Once at&t gets its head out of its collective you know what as to knocking the Galaxy Note off data as a "tablet only" device, that is the way I'm probably moving after the 1st of the year. Rumors report a at&t branded note, but it will be missing the home button, and have a qualcomm processor for LTE, which won't be available in my area until probably 2015 or later LOL.

Opinions only, Sprint GN vs. GS3, Evo4gLTE and LG Optimus G

I have 4 things I need, 4g internet, good camera, 4.5 inch screen or larger and sms text to speech with no human interaction. I know the last one I can't get on Android so have written it off but the Evo 4g LTE, Samsung Galaxy S3 and the LG Optimus G have the last 3.
Now the issue is I want Pure Google Android and only the Nexus has it on Sprint so I am looking at the Google Nexus but I need to know how the cpu and camera are compared to the others. I have heard that the Galaxy Nexus is actually on the slow side, that even the Samsung Galaxy Epic 4g Touch is faster and has a better camera, and I want some opinion. I have read so much and I am just more confused.
I love the specs of the LG Optimus G because I am at least good for a year when it comes to spec but it only has Google Ice Cream Sandwich and because of it is an LG I feel that development will be slow. I owned the Samsung Galaxy s3 for 4 days and really didn't like it. If I could I would buy the Nexus 4 but alas it doesn't work on Sprint.
I really appreciate any opinion and that is all I am asking for here. This is going on my second line so I can purchase a Windows Phone 8 device when Sprint launches them this summer.

(Q) very cheap phone with good battery?

I need a very cheap phone (under £100), has great battery, plays music & can use Viber. I don't care about processing power, etc. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thank you!

AW: (Q) very cheap phone with good battery?
Samsung has great solutions. Check the galaxy Y and the galaxy ace. By now the galaxy S (one) might be under a hundred as well. Can only recommend these
Virgin Mobile
Back in the day I picked up an LG Optimus V for $149 on Virgin Mobile, no contract, cheap data plan, rooted it, and it worked extremely well. And if you plan to use Viber, I guess you would just need your wi-fi connection... not exactly sure if Viber will work on the 2.2.2 Optimus V.
Taking a look at Virgin Mobile's devices, looks like you can grab the Optimus V online for $49USD. Also the Kyocera Event (never heard of it, just seeing it on their site right now) for $79USD running Android 4.0. You should probably check out their devices for yourself. (Sadly, since I'm new here, I can't post links, sorry :/)
