The Optimus V Wiki!! - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hello!
I have been working on this Wiki for Optimus V users. It's open to the public as of now, and has a bunch of data already added. Thanks to the members who have already made edits, you are really doing your fellow Optimus V'ers a favor by adding information to the site. I have been monitoring the site traffic and everyday it goes up and up, nearly doubling every day! Please feel free to make changes/edits or add new pages to the wiki, it's the contributers that will make this site really flourish. I am currently paying out of my own pocket for a premium membership here and my hope is that in the end we can simply stick some clean google ads in on there and let the site support itself. So take a look, if you feel like you have anything to add, please do. Anonymous edits are allowed but we urge you to join our team! Thanks very much! I really hope this site will help some people out, newcomers to the scene or the elite!
ps: I will be working on a better navigation/portal as I feel there is finally enough content to do so! I feel like a nice way to organize it would be by "Android Basic, Android Intermediate and Android Advanced" and then cross-linking all the current content together. if anyone has any suggestions on this please chime in or go ahead and work on your idea! open source style!
pps: I'm not making a single cent off this site and never plan to. We accept donations to cover our wikispaces fees only.

update!
Just a little update letting everyone know the site has been updated quite a bit since I made this thread a while back! Have organized the information into a repo of sorts arranged by the level of skill one may need to take on a hack or modification. Have also been receiving some donations from some kind individuals and have been saving up to hopefully soon pick up some real server space and use the official Wikipedia framework, Wikispaces is nice but they are really lacking in terms of being able to customize your wiki or even do some basic things like edit or upload your own html. So if you didn't enjoy the site when you first took a peek give it another chance, the awesome wiki team members and a bunch of guests have been submitting quite a bit and it's thanks to their work that we are currently receiving over 2000 unique hits every month! thanks!!
ps: added google ads on the left side, all clicks make money for the site! thanks!

Offering FREE web hosting for your creations!

MOD EDIT: JUST TO CLARIFY. WHILE THIS IS A GREAT IDEA AND WORTHY OF BEING TEMPORARILY STUCK, THIS ISN'T AN OFFICIALLY SANCTIONED XDA SITE AND SHOULD BE USED AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Thats right!
Im offering free hosting to anyone who is creating ROMS, themes, etc
All you have to do is send me an message telling me your interest and i will set up a sub domain and ftp access
my server has unlimited space and bandwidth
Now that is a really generous offer.
Nice one
you are the best !!
i'm in the process of making a new ROM, and will contact you soon
thanks a lot..
What a nice chap
Is that server located in the USA? I'm guessing by your location...
I have a server in the UK that can also be used if desired. It's only 4GB in storage, but I doubt custom ROM's would take up that much space.
Not meaning to take over your thread however, sorry!
The server is in Toronto, the speed may not be the best for all my european friends here but i doubt it's going to be horrible.
The fact i got unlimited space and bw will give them the opportunity to even make a webpage if they want, forums for bugs and stuff.. the're own little portal if they want.
Heh nice! A couple of counter-strike:source servers whilst you at it? Joking.... or am i? no seriously just kidding.
thats hilarious
people still play that game? meh im a console guy anyways!
bump for an awsome offer
Remember, you can use this to host your own domain (if you have one) create your own website, SQL, SSL, everything you need!
Take advantage of this!
Wow thats amazing offer dude
(dont make roms, but just thought deffonatly worth a thankyou not just from the makers, but from the people who will be downloading from it too!)
Gotten a few more, keep them coming!
haha, thanks again btw, been uploading shiz to it already. I am QUITE tempted to host a proxy....with http uploading...
i might, take a look at the site in my sig.. its for themes, and il make new themes once 2.1 sense is released
but yea i could use a host that lets me use my own domain!

just let me know with a pm
bumping for all these new ROMs out there that might need a home
This is awesome work! I am sure ROM builders and Theme designers would love this offer. I can't wait to see VillainROM taking advantage of your offer.
kriEv,
Sent a PM regarding this offer. A very good one, and I'm sure more ROMs will be glad to take you up, especially if it means no more waiting on hosting sites and faffing around...
Cheers,
pulser
EDIT, and BTW, for the poster above me, I will be likely looking to host some mods for villainROM such as (hopefully) JIT for a stock build etc. and maybe some themes requested by users. The end idea to make a 'mini-kitchen' to store the mini update.zips, then folks can come along and help themselves to some ingredients for their ROM.
At some point, if anyone with scripting experience wanted to come onboard, we could look at making a kitchen, although I guess that would put significant load on the server, which would not really be fair on kriEv... So maybe best to just stick to a DIY kitchen unless anyone has any ideas for the 'drive-through'
Temporarily stuck to get the word out. Thanks for being so generous kriEv!
Vexxhost by any chance?
Hi all, i am also providimg free image hosting for your screenshot for maximum 3 year You may use it at http://www.apadmedia.com/photosharing
Why free? I just want the extra space to be fully utilize.
Thanks

[Q] Online Kitchens...

I wanted to host a online kitchen(s) for the community. After some diligent research, I cannot find any scripts or server side software, etc. for this purpose.
I have written code for android in the past, and am familiar with git and java, as well as the Android SDK, so I am not new to this. In addition I have no concerns about hosting, or other needs, as I have way more facilities than I need to do so.... (In my personal Lab/Datacenter, among other very cool and overpowered toys, I have a 42U rack full of gear, a pair of HP BladeCenters with 16 Blades each, and plenty of bandwidth all to myself.) The environment is mostly ESX 4 and scalable which makes projects like this both fun and easy.
My hope was that someone here can point me in the direction of how or where to obtain the base scripts/software/files necessary to put together an online kitchen. I am happy to contribute my time assisting in testing and developing should it be necessary.
If I am successful in doing so, and I find it does not tax my resources after some testing, I would have no issues hosting for free for other Devs as well, if they are interested.
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
(Forgive me in advance if this is information that is already available, I did search both XDA and Google first, before I posted this question.)
Bump!
Anyone have any answers?

It really shouldn't be too hard to take the bash scripts used in some of the existing kitchens and create a web based front end to call them using php on a linux server. I have done similar things in the past. which distro is your server running? I would be willing to help you put something together if your willing to host it for everybody.
This is a pretty interesting idea. We would have to do some planning and figure out exactly what features should be in an online kitchen vs a standalone. Do we want to store a set of base roms to modify, or do users of the kitchen always upload the rom they are modifying, do we simply force a download of the modified rom, save it on the site, seed a torrent, etc?
I'll try to cook up a very simple example, and then we could always build on it.

Seems the OP has done this already. Maybe he will be so kind as to assist.
DieHappy, PM me pls.

[Q] Comparing different ROM features

So, new to this game, but a reasonably good tech head by trade. I didn't see any information outlining the differences between the available GTab ROMs in an apples to apples sort of way. Does anything like that exist currently? If not, is this something the community would be interested in brainstorming in a Google Doc or something? I'm happy to get things rolling if so.
Okay, so, this might be stupid, or a total waste of time, but what the heck:
https(colon,slash,slash)spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Au8YYie-Ky7kdDNQRG8zN09xYnQ2NTVvOXY1ZTFtMXc&hl=en&authkey=CJC3j5oC
I went ahead and started working up a spreadsheet. Feel free to go in and start editing, adding important features, correcting, or whatever else. If someone else has beaten me to this, just say so.
I actually think it is an awesome idea and should help a lot of people decide what ROM they want to use. I have had my GTab since Christmas and have flashed mine over 20 times. I have tried all of the ROMs available on these forums multiple times and I don't think I would have needed to if a spreadsheet like this was in place earlier.
Okay, I think I seeded the spreadsheet with as much information as I can based on the various ROM threads. It'll be up to the community to help fill in some of the remaining gaps and such. And feel free to add in new feature checkpoints as well that users would find relevant. I'll keep curating the document to keep it consistent, and will fill in more once I actually have my G-Tablet in hand.
Features, add features that we could us, so those of us who want a rom that performs the tasks we want can see which one best suits us.
just some egs
bluetooth gps support
usb gps support (dont think this will be possible till hc is availabe)
usb g3 support
proxy support
external or bt keyboard and mouse support
.....

Neither stupid nor a waste of time: I have been wanting to do something similar for a while - decide what/whether to upgrade my TNTLite 2.2 install to, I just haven't found the time or energy.
Your spreadsheet is very helpful. You should start a thread for it in the 'G Tablet Android Development' forum and see if you can get it stickied: I'll bet a LOT of other people will find it useful too. Maybe the various developers will chime in and help you fill in the blanks.
*thumbs up!*
I for one thank you for your time and effort. I am waiting on my Gtab to be delivered and am trying to decide which ROM to use. With this spreadsheet I can see the pros/cons of the major players at a glance. I think I will go with Vega.

Tossed some extra fields in for those requests.
999pings, thanks, I'll start a second thread once I have the requisite posts to do so in the Developer forum. I was sort of torn what the right place was to post this to begin with. Mods, feel free to merge the threads if necessary once I get the second one going.
Yeah thanks this would be helpful. It's always easier to have a side-by-side comparison than having to read through a long list of change logs and hundreds of pages of comments on what works and what doesn't. I too am waiting for my tablet to come in the mail and deciding which ROM to go with. I was basing my decision on popularity and that award going to TnT based on thread activity. Of course that doesn't always mean it's the best choice. I'd like to see this spreadsheet take shape in the next few days or so
Perhaps you can model yours after one that SimonNWalker here at XDA did:
http://db.androidspin.com/androidspin_release_matrix.asp
Something along those lines would be nice once I have the data put together from everyone. Likewise, it'd be nice to find a wiki for it to live on, some place that it could continue to be maintained over time. Ideally something like this can take off in a way that it wouldn't need me (or any single person) to constantly curate it.

I don't know much about it, but there is Wiki functionality within XDA if this gains popularity. The spreadsheet/chart can definitely grow over time especially when Honeycomb comes out. There will be many more flavors of ROMs being released.

Oh, fantastic. That'll do great. I'll check into porting the stuff over to that once things fill in. Loves me some wiki action.

I agree, excellent idea. Thanks for taking the time to do this!
I was about to embark upon getting VPN access working using TNTLite, now I know that I can switch to Vegan if it gets too complicated.
Here is the link since I thing the OP could not post it up

Yeah, thanks. Forums require a minimum of 8 posts to include links. I just joined, so had to fake it a little, heh.
Thankyou TheQuicksilver!!
Sticky??
I suggest adding a column for stock TNT, and maybe even 1 for stock+enhancement?
That would be helpful for those trying to decide to stay stock or not.

Brand new to the GTab.. Picking a ROM and rooting tonight. This resource helps immensely! Thanks!
Just wanted to say thanks for this. This would be great to have as a "sticky" so we don't have to search for it, and for new owners to see at the top of the page.

[POLL] How much would you pay for my service?

Hello All
I need some input from you guys...
We all can recall the dsixda kitchen and numerous kitchens, but what if it were all online?
Yes that's right. I am in the process of launching a project that will do just that. I am at the point of writing a business proposal for funding of the project and I need some key info from you guys..
This kitchen will allow complete noobs who do not know any code to customize their phone like never before. Just like devs do, this will allow people to customize their phone and have a server build their package. Thats about in depth as I can go. lol
But I need some "Market" info:
First, how much would you pay for this service?
Second, How often do you think people will use it?
These answers need to take into account that not everyone is a dev and that it is mainly aimed at users of no code experience.
Thanks Guys.
Also, at some point, I will be opening this up to devs and beta testers once I have the facility built and coded. Keep an eye out as I plan on asking for beta testers right here on good ol xda.
Free, with Ads. but please make ads relevant to services lik XDA or AndroidCentral.
Well done on resurrecting a six month old thread...

Android Desktop (Coders?)

Ok, I want to make this as straight forward as possible, but give you the details you are curious about.
Let me start by saying that personally, I, and only I, have been creating this conceptual idea of Android on the desktop since March 2013. This is my soul here, and I have been, for over a year, trying to bring this to light for everyone. But that is not the easiest thing to do.
I have page after page, PSD after PSD of ideas written out all over the place for how Android on the desktop will work, full of redesigns and structures. But it is going no where for one reason.
I need coders.
I have 4 - 5 people preparing soon enough to get started on developing. My main coder and adviser, has found something, which I cannot speak of here, that makes developing this idea so easy and pretty smooth. We have a lot of this mapped out already, but we need a team to make this happen. You must trust that what we have planned here will be the next big thing. This isn't just a knock off, this is what it is meant to be. Do not worry that "Android was created for phones and tablets" as we have over looked that minor idea and moved past it already.
What we have planned will work without a doubt. But we need you; rom developers, those who know what they are doing and have knowledge in python, c or java, either one.
I have someone offering me to put this on their hardware which will be released in the fall, I have a few people interested in this, but the problem is, no one can touch it because it isnt in a workable form. Maybe a minor form, but not enough for you to touch.
I want to show you a fraction of the work I've done, which I've posted on XDA
I would also like for you to check out the G+ group and join if you have G+.
Also if you are a ui/ux/icon designer, by all means please help me out. This is a pain to do by myself.
But, please contact me and I will bring you in with the small group of people we have, we would be more than happy to have you.
Thanks for looking.
