google voice for voicemail? - EVO Shift 4G Themes and Apps

anyone able to set up google voice as the voicemail provider? I was able to for the most part...except for when people are actually forwarded to voicemail. google asks the caller to dial in my number again. it's seems very inconvenient.

Sorta the wrong place to ask this, but let me see if I can answer it.
I have done this on both my EVO 4G and my wife's EVO Shift without any problems at all. As long as you follow Googles instructions to the letter, you should not have any issues.
It sounds like you don't have Google "tied" to your phone correctly. I would try running through the activation again on their web site?

[Q] Anybody having issues with Google Voice?

Hey all,
So I installed google voice so I could retrieve my voicemails, and there's no option in the new version that allows you to choose when to use google voice for calls.
So now, all of my outgoing calls are using my GVoice number instead of my cell number. I've tried signing out of GVoice as well as digging through all of the settings and it still remains. It even sends from my GVoice number when I text.
Anybody having this problem?
Thanks!
Nevermind.. Figured it out.
But for anyone wondering, you have to log into your account through the web and disable GVoice on your phone. You'll still get voicemails, but it won't call/text from that number.
So the issue is Google Voice app is now aware of being installed on a Sprint phone. The app will automatically integrate your service with GV is you dont pay attention. You can click "skip" when you first install and then it will convert to the normal install screens we are use to seeing. I totally missed it when I first installed, spent time on the phone with tech support etc. Hope this helps others.
I had the SAME problem and took me about a half hour to figure out what the hell was going on
Me too. I wasn't getting any SMS and I was like "what the [email protected]*K! Spent some time on the phone w/ tech support myself and that's when it dawned on me that I had integrated it w/ my HeroC.
I don't know if thus is the same issue but all my texts are coming through gv instead if the message app. Stock message app and I only use gv for vm. Any suggestions?

Uninstall GV
Go to GV on your computer and unlink your sprint and google number
Install GV
CLICK SKIP ON THE FIRST SCREEN!!!! <== for most people who use GV we dont read this but this is where it asked you to integrate your Sprint and GV number
??????
Profit!
Okay I somehow fixed my sms issue and now I have another issue. When I get a call or call my self from a seperate phone...on the calling phone, it rings normally. After about 4 rings, my phone, receiving the call, will start to play the ringtone which gives me 2 or so rings to answer. I have no idea what happened

Google voice help

Maybe I'm an idiot but I can't figure it out. I'm new to Google voice.. I'm trying to use it for my voicemails but when I go through the setup it tells me my carrier doesn't support this feature..
Is the Thunderbolt not able to use Google voice to receive voicemails?

I was trying to use Google Voice to make free calls, but gave up due to worse quality then Skype.
I did try the voicemail feature once but had to logon to my google account from my pc. It apparently set up some sort of forwarding option and i had to call some google phone number to check my voicemails.
I've been using it for Voicemail only since i've owned the original Droid. Works fine on my thunderbolt. Setup just had to dial a number to forward my voice mail and that was it. I'm on stock rooted. ROM bug maybe?

I used this website's instructions for help. Google Voice Setup Help
Search Google voice on your PC once you are logged in there's a little gear on the top left of your web page. Click that and choose voice settings. I just did mine tonight. Lol

i came to post this. set it up from your PC then set google voice on your phone to control voice mail. that's all it takes.
U don't get to make free calls, just free text messaging. Also when u make calls it changes ur number. Say u call ur mom and her number is 123 5555555, but when u look at bill it will say I made the call but it won't show her number, shows the number google made up.

Add gv # to friends and family. Use gv callback. Done. Free.

Text...

So is there a way to easily text? I use a google voice number, also.

Aren't you answering your own question? You're using cm7 on your touchpad, you already have a google number..
text via google voice app
and if you wanna use your own cell provided number, TexTab works well. created by a felow forum member.
I don't have google voice in Canada so on my Android phone I installed DeskSMS, it will forward all sms messages to gmail or gtalk. I can then use the gtalk or gmail on the Touchpad to send texts.

I use Google Voice, will it screw anything up if I put my regular cell phone number as the number for this device for google voice? That's the only way to get the app to work on the TP, correct?

Help with Google Voice Re-integration

Good evening,
I need help with my Google voice and re-integrating my Sprint mobile number with it. I guess a while back I un-integrated the number and now it wont let me re-integrate it again. I don't want anything to do with the Google voice number, I want to use my Sprint number for everything but every time I try to enable it, it gives me an error and I heard its because I had un-integrated it before. Any way around this? I have some more information below that might help you help me
When I try to change my Google voice number to my mobile number, I put it my sprint number and click on option 1 which is Use your sprint mobile number with Google voice, I click continue and get the following message: "Unfortunately, Google voice cannot be enabled on this Sprint phone. Please contact sprint for more details as to why this cannot be enabled." It is currently showing the number Google voice gave me.
When I click on check eligibility for sprint integration (using my mobile number) under "forward calls to" and click on option 1, verify my phone, it tells me the following: Unfortunately, Google voice cannot be enabled on this Sprint phone. Please contact sprint for more details as to why this cannot be enabled. I did this and they told me to try the following day but its the same thing over and over again.
Activating Google voice mail on this phone DOES work but its useless without the full integration.
Any ideas on how to fix this is very appreciated. I am regretting the day I un-integrated it.
Thanks guys!
Instead of integrating with sprint, press skip, configure, select voicemail provider, dial configuration number and it works.
All credit goes to LiquidSolstice, who wrote an awesome guide on setting it up.

Since no one is going to be able to help me, can I atleast get a link that guide your talking about?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416590
Thanks for the link but that only helps you to set it up if your number has never been integrated before.
call sprint. This had happened to me where my google voice number took over my phone and i needed to unintegrate it. Sprint has a department that can assist with that.
Yeah that's exactly what happened to be and that's the reason I had to delete it completely. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

did u fix it?
I decided not to do it until google voice supports MMS.
Evolution is speaking in 3 dimensions using XDA Premium
Actually, google voice was supporting mms before.. its just forwards the picture messages to your email..

[Q] On/Off "switch" to use G Voice for calls/texts?

I might be asking for way too much but...
Is there any way to use a widget or app to switch whether I use Sprint or Google Voice to receive calls and texts? I know Sprint offers integration and can port your number an all. But I only want to use G Voice on an as needed basis.
Who knows, maybe it wouldn't even meet my needs. The reason I'm looking for this is because for whatever reason, while I'm in my office, I can't receive texts and barely get cell coverage... No one can, roaming isn't even an option. But I can connect to wifi.
google voice comes with an apps, u can chose however option u want. but it has to have a different number, cant be the same number as your phone number, if u take that integration, u need to remove it and then obtain a new number from google, then everything will work like a charm.

Without sprint integration, google voice can be used for texts only. The widget for google voice allows quick change for using gv to call or not.
I use gv for texts, have my gv number ringing under SIP, don't use gv for outgoing calls as SIP negates that.

Alright, so how do I toggle it on/off. I don't want to use it permanently. Just for texting is just fine too. What I want is to be able to have people texting (in this case now) my normal number be i guess forwarded to Voice. I just care about receiving because I miss a lot of important texts while in my office. you know, the ones that get you in trouble from certain people? lol
Well, I think I found SOMETHING. Haven't tried it yet. The HTC SMS app has a setting to forward texts to either email or another number (it's under the general settings). I'll see how this works out.
EDIT: Not exactly what I was hoping for but oh well. I suspected it wouldn't work, and it doesn't. The SMS app needs to receive it first. Doesn't even help if I can't get them in the first place.

If you login to gv from a desktop, you can set it to forward texts to your other number, or email. Look for settings, gear in top right corner.
Should be self explanatory
