i'm confused - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed bi-winning (great rom), however avatar is no longer on my phone. this is strange because i've flashed many times and avatar is never effected. this time, however, it is gone, the trailer is still there though. I was thinking it's just hidden somewhere on my sd card, what do you think?
this also happened with the sims 3. i flashed a rom and it dissapeared, although i haven't seen the sims on my phone in a while.

finding avatar and sims
avatar should be in the movie folder of your external SD, the only reason it shouldn't be there is if you switched cards. and check your root folder for the sims 3.apk files, if you don't have it I keep a copy of it just let me know if you want it.

I found avatar. It has a pyv extention for some reason. As far as looking in the root folder. Where is the root folder?

Root is just your sd card. Not in any folder on your sd card.
Like on your computer root = c: NOT c:/anyfolder

legitimate. i always wondered what happened too....

finding root folders
you will need to have rooted your phone, then with root explorer or something similar go to data/app/ and you will see most of your .apk files that you have ever downloaded from the market. sims will be in this one. just run the .apk to reinstall the game. I always manually copy this folder to my external to make it easyer if my backups fail.

Normally when you flash a rom Avatar is still there, you just need to go to video player to watch it because the roms remove the icon for it but not the movie

Great info on the Sims. Thank-you. As far as avatar goes. I've always been able to open the movie through the gallery. Now all I see in the gallery is the trailer. Let me check this stuff out and ill let you know what has worked
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Edit: searched through root explorer and the sims is not there, that isn't a big deal. I suppose i could flash a rom where i know ive seen avatar and save it to my sd card from there, again, this isn't a big deal either. I mostly like to pull it up and show people how awesome our screens are.

Update: just flashed back to trigger. Avatar is back. Im not sure what the deal is with this
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse but after I flashed trigger I moved avatar to the root of my SD card. It was viewable. I then went back to bi-winning and it was the same story as before. I found avatar but it was not viewable. I think this is rom related.

Its Kernel related. I've tried a bunch of times but for some reason Avatar won't work on the Overstock Kernel

I think it must be rom related. Avater worked for me on bionix 1.3.1, i'm currently watching it on trigger 2.9.2. I'm thinking it might have something to do with 2.2.1 roms, but that is just speculation.

I got my hands on a 4G vibrant it comes with "Inception" and its a .pyv extension the "Avatar" that came with my 3G vibrant is a .dcf extension. Both movies won't play for me unfortunately. Just thought it was weird that the extension was changed(keepin **** locked down!)
For me personally the avatar that came with the phone hasn't played in such along time i can't even remember and i've since replaced it with a mp4 copy along with mp4's of other movies! i.e. i show avatar to some buddies and get a shoulder shrug.... show them jackass3 and its "wow, thats awesome looking!" lol. to each their own i guess. I only keep these originals to check compatibility on ROMS for those on here.

I think replacing with MP4 versions is probably the best way to insure it will play. It's dumb though, samsung and T-mobile include these movies and they restrict them so they can't be copied. I understand the reasoning, i just don't agree with it

Has anyone been able to fix this? Also im on toxic firefly and swype doesnt work correctly either.

avatar copy and move

I was wondering how to copy the FULL MOVIE of avatar to my girlfriends sd card from mine? I am asking because she accidently deleted her copy????
I just bought a new SD card and copied the old one directly to it. Avatar plays from my new card just fine.
Dunno if there's some copy protection linked to the phone or just you have to have a Vibrant to play it.
I also moved from my 2GB SD Card to my 8GB without any problems.
As Col. stated though, I don't know if it'll work on another phone.

Ok,so while I am glad that it worked for the both of you,I still do not know how to do it.
So can one of you walk me through the steps in doing it? lol Thanks guys.
When you mount your phone through usb it'll open two auto play windows. One with a folder that says movie and the other your sd card. Find the avatar dcf file and copy it to your hard drive. Then unmount your phone and connect your girls phone and copy the movie to her movie folder. Done.

You can apparently play it on any Vibrant. The copy from my first Vibrant plays fine on my replacement.
Ok guys,so here's the deal.
I was able to get the movie back on my girls phone and it played, but tell me if you also have this problem.
Does yours also now only play from your gallery movie folder and not the avatar icon? Weird. I'm sure a factory reset will make it work again but just don't wont to do that at the moment.
Thanks vibrant fam!

create a folder in you sdcard and name it Movie. Put the movie in there. Your external sdcard... and the movie should play by pressing the icon.
So what if I renamed it avatar instead of movie? Do u think that could be why it does not play from the icon?

Yea, I believe so. The actual movie has to be inside your sdcard in a folder called "Movie" if not, the app will not find the directory it's looking for.
Ok so thats what im doing when I get home(renaming folder). Ill let u know if it works.

That's a huge chunk of space in your SD card....I just moved mine over to my phone's 16 GB of storage. Yeah the "app" doesn't work, but I can launch it from the video player just fine.

Avatar, File Not Found, Yes I've read other threads

Hi XDA:
I still have the Avatar movie on external sd card, pushed the avatar.apk file to /system/apps, and made sure the proper movie sub directory was copied from an old back up to my internal sd card under the sd card directory. Still getting ' file not found' when click Avatar icon. I can watch the movie using the video player and I'm sure this is something small that I've forgotten, and I researched other threads regarding this issue but cannot find an answer. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I'm currently running Nero v3. Cheers.

If anyone can shed some light on this it would really be appreciated. I am selling one of my Vibrants as I've just purchased a Nexus S and I'm trying to get this working for them before I ship it. Thanks again
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
This has to do with the different ways 2.1 and 2.2 name the external sd card - 2.1 calls it "sd" or "sdcard" (can't remember...been a while since 2.1), while 2.2 calls it "external_sd." So, you need the Avatar apk that has the correct name in the movie filepath.
The attached apk's should solve your problem. If you are running a 2.2 rom, then use the one I attached named "Avatar_22." Push it to your system/app just like you were doing before.
Disclaimer: I did not make the 2.2 compatible Avatar shortcut. I had this same issue and found it somewhere on this site, but figured I'd just share the apk instead of trying to search out the original source. If this makes someone mad, let me know and I'll give the proper credit or remove it - whichever you prefer.
Awesome.. Exactly what I needed and I'll give it a whirl once I arrive home from work. Thanks.

I've moved my copy around, on two different external cards, and to my internal where it sits now. If you browse directly to the file and press it, does it play? Sometimes the icon's link might break, but the movie should still play. One other question, whats your software setup? If you're running the Dead Horse kernel, it has playback issues currently for all video files.

Just noticed something odd on my own phone. ( KB1 Based (Loki2.1) with KB1 Voodoo Kernel, Voodoo disabled. Had to Odin twice yesterday due to failed experiments with Dead Horse so I shouldn't have anything that hung around from the experimenting. ) From my external, I can play other movies and Vids, but not Avatar.
So far I have formatted my external, reloaded Avatar to it, and tested, no go.
Moved Avatar to my internal, still will not play.
I am wondering if something in the KB1 based builds has broken DRM.
Logcat confirms DRM Errors, when trying to play the video:
E/ ( 2593): DRM_E_FILEREADERROR
E/ ( 2593): DRMTOOLS_OpenASF_File( inFileName, &((*in_oToolContext)->oMed
iaFile ))
E/PlayerDriver( 2593): Command PLAYER_INIT completed with an error or info -33
E/MediaPlayer( 3979): message received msg=100, ext1=301, ext2=-33
E/MediaPlayer( 3979): error (301, -33)
E/MediaPlayer( 3979): callback application
E/MediaPlayer( 3979): back from callback
E/MediaPlayer( 3979): Error (301,-33)
E/vp.VideoView( 3979): MediaPlayer error: 301,-33
Anybody have an idea how to fix it?
I might try pushing an older version of DRM and see if that works, I'll post the results

There have been reports that clearing the drm app data and doing a handful of reboots fixed it for some. In my experience, between different flashes of the same rom it works, then it doesn't, then it works again. Complete mystery as to the root of the cause.

You've deleted the game from your SD card or something has accidentally wiped your SD card. Any time you flash any thing this can happen.
Ok. That makes sense. Why would it show up on the menu if it's not installed?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I've had the same issue since, like ever, with both the game and Avatar. As said, it seems we've deleted the contents of the two somehow.
It would be great if someone can upload the missing files though for us to replace it on the memory. It would work as the running program itself can't be removed from Vibrant (or maybe just not on stock roms that is).

[Q] Cant delete default ringtones

ok, I'm trying to delete the default rintones (tmo jingle, etc.) but when I do they are gone for a few min the reappear even though they arent in the /media/audio folder anywhere....anyone got any ideas? Beware of angry gingerbread man
Hey Eco, flashed your nightly 2 this morning, and the only ringtones that showed up for me were the handful that you included. The notification sounds were all there, but I assumed you included those intentionally, separate from the ringtones.
My only thought is that, as adamcooks touched on above, the OS is seeing a folder on one of your sd's titled ringtones, and its adding its contents to the available options.
