Disable hardware buttons? - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to disable the hardware buttons (home, search, back, menu) on the gtab? I find myself hitting them when I don't want to.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

Button remapper app.
In fact, here it is.

Thanks for the link, goodintentions. It installed and opens up great.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out how to use this app to actually disable the hardware buttons on the Gtab. I'm running Vegan b5.1 (with supplement) and Clymsyn's kernel v6.
I've tried setting their state to 'none' and that didn't work... also tried searching the 'action' dropdown for a 'disable' or 'none' entry, but couldn't find one.
Any guidance would be appreciated, thanks.

You dont need to change the states, only the actions. Set it to Focus for all the home/search/back/menu you see. If you mess something up, it should allow you to restore the keys after you reboot

Button remapper works great when pared with button Savior. It gives you a placable tab that when touched brings up back, home, menu and search buttons. Really handy.
Oh and I remapped my gtabs buttons to be a dpad. It really helps when selecting links online.

Disable hardware buttons
Hi all, I downloaded the app, installed and set buttons to focus.
No joy, none at all.
Using Honeycomb, could this be the issue?
Or, does anyone know any other solution?

It's there any way to retask the search button?

I never use the search soft button on the 717. Is there any way to reuse it to launch an application or something else?

On another galaxy phone there was an app that let you do anything with any button. I made the search button put the phone to sleep.
Don't some of the newer roms allow for it? I swear mine has been the flashlight button ...at least on the lock screen. Unless my decaying brain is just messing with me.

I would swap my menu and search button for ease of use.

if you hold the button down at least google voice search should launch. Maybe a couple other app options.
Btw, deleting voice_talk_q1.apk from system/app on JB will enable google voice search if you long press search. Rather then the samsung svoice only.

[Q] Archos Gamepad suddenly has button mapping problems!

Hi, well I've searched google and this forum i cant find any fixes. Thanks in advance for your help. Hope this also helps someone out with the same problem.
Archos gamepad suddenly has button mapping issues and i dont know how to fix it.
Problem: the following buttons all map to the same value "button x". So their actual button's proper value isnt being read. So what i mean is, if i use any emulator or app (even the archos mapping tool) and if i try to map any of these following buttons, they all map to the same value. List of buttons that are giving me this problem :
Up, left, start, X, A.
So its incredibly frustrating if im in an emulator and want to map button Up to Up in the app. Because instead it thinks ive pushed the X button. The analogs still work, but this is crazy i cant figure out whats wrong.
Problem exists in the homescreen also!
Things ive tried to fix this:
Reinstalling the latest firmware
Restoring back to factory defaults
Does anyone have any advice ?
I Swear I've had it with this archos gamepad. First i thought the ghost screen touches were annoying, now this has started to happen. Just dont buy one, i dont recommend!

Hello yousef, im afraid this is not the problem. it cannot be resolved with app updates, it looks like i need to hack the device.
Ive even disabled all mapping tools and still it behaves like this.
Right now i found that if i hold down the X button, the device behaves properly and reads the buttons correctly!! What madness is this, the only way i can use the device properly is to hold down the x button?? I may have to glue it down or something? it even solves the ghost screen touching!
i have resorted to this ghetto fix for now:

i have rooted it. i need to completely disable the Button X. can someone help me? I want to somehow edit some settings in some file to completely disable the X Button. So i dont want the button to function anymore.
i also believe the X button behaves like the Back Button in Android OS. And so maybe i should look for a way to disable the Back Button? Anyone have some advice?
thank you

You could modify some file /system/usr/keylayout/
You must find the right file for the buttons, and comment out line for X.
I wish you luck, because I can't help you more precisely.

[Q] how can I force software menu button to show?

My sister has a Sprint GS4 and the menu button is broke (home also, but she has a soft home app, could not find a decent menu button, oddy enough).
I know that if the phone has no physical menu button, the app always puts one somewhere on the app. My question, is there a build.prop or similar to trick all apps into thinking the phone has no physical menu button so it will show in the app? Thanks, i hope someone can help. (Phone not rooted, but i can root it)

Button Savior-Non Root should work. It would be better to root it though as you have a lot more and better options, such as Pie controls with the LMT Launcher.
I actually did try that, but it was a very ugly interface. There's gotta be some system-wide setting that lets all apps know whether you have a hardware menu button or not, right?

Exactly, I can root it (I have CM11 on my own S4 so I have rooted before). I just wanted someone to tell me exactly what to change and I'll root it and do the modification.
I just don't want to root it if I can't find out how to accomplish the menu button.

Remap App Switch To Menu

So ive been search around for a while now on how to fix this. And to anyone that chimes in and says why do you need the menu button obviously you don't use older apps, the new touch button on the screen is a huge annoyance especially since i've used my phones this way since my first S1. Regardless this is how i want it and so do many other people.
Currently this is only for a rooted phone
I have figured out how to remap the left soft key from the App Switcher/Multi window over to the old style menu key. Instructions for that can be found here
But now i don't have any way of switching to my currently open apps, after remapping the left key, the longpress now takes you to search. and long pressing on the home button also takes you to another variation of the search (both i dont use nor want). I want to be able to remap my left softkey on longpress to open up currently open apps (APP_SWITCH) and it would be nice if long pressing on Home could open the Task Manager as it did on my S3.
As far as i can tell editing of the longpress function is done via a Policy edit. Read about that HERE
Keep in mind that post is from 2014 so i have no idea if the internal code is still being handled the same way, i couldn't even find that file on my S6, but i did find a file called SEPOLICY in my root folder using ROOT EXPLORER. Do any of you know more about this and how I can go about changing this? im sure its a code level adjustment. Thanks
Long-press home button can be controlled without root easily.
Check out this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spada.nowgesturetweaksfree
I use the long-press home to get to my last used app.
I wonder if I can remap my buttons to launch any other apps.. Will have to tinker around a bit.

very useful. menu for navigation is long long outdate. software nave or 3 dots is the customary way to go. adding a secondary menu button is redudant and unnecessary. my little ewww comment brought a lot to the table. you tryingt to call me out on it is less useful.

lol f off
If you guys use Dropbox, how do you get to the menu with SORT, etc.. without a menu key. This is making me crazy. I'm using nova launcher and there is no floating menu key. ????
The problem is if not every developer uses it, it's inconsistent.
It often helps if the options etc. In apps are on the top, so you don't have to fidget with your phone to reach the top or use two hands.
The menu button on every app is positioned somewhere else, so I find the op wanting it justified.
All in one gestures let's you remap every key, for some odd reason on my s4 I can remap the menu key, but on the S6 for some odd reason the option of the menu key has vanished in the same app:what:
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
Hi pal. Hope it helps. Make 254 button remap, then install nova launcher, in tab gestures select long press menu and then recent app. Profit! Now once tapped you have menu button, long pressed - recent apps.
So, i made it, i use it. It works.

Navbar customizing

Has anyone tinkered with and/or had luck with this navbar customizing app?

No root/magisk done on my device, just curious if it'll work before I possibly soft brick or something
***UPDATE 4/12***
I bought the "pro" version of said app since I appreciated the work of the dev and after switching/inverting the buttons I looked into the theme options. I chose the Pixel styling and it broke the home button hold for assistant. Users be warned. The inverting works perfectly, theming noooot so much

Excellent, that's what I wanted. I'm always irked by the task switching and back buttons being "reversed" -_-
Add an additional button on left or right for launching assistant.
Great
Great. I thought it is not possible to invert without root.
