Getting wifi channel numbers to display - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know if this is just a problem for the Legend running CM, but wifi channel numbers aren't displayed in apps like Wifi Analyzer. The channel is shown as either '0' or 'unknown'. This issue has been logged here. On that page someone says:
A work around now is to replace the relevant file for wlan driver with those in stock ROMs.
Click to collapse
So does anyone know how I'd go about replacing the driver? I'd like to give it a go but am not sure where to start.

This issue persists, using Zeubea's CM10 Beta1 port http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905588.
The link in #1 is broken (for me at least), so is there anyone who can tell me how to find the correct driver and replace the slightly flawed one in the ROM? Or just point me in the right direction, pretty please? :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Aria Wifi

I have the HTC Aria with CM 6.1.1 installed on it.
Since the time I installed CM 6, I haven't been able to connect to the school network. I could do so in Liberated Aria (FRxx) and the stock 2.1 ATT Rom but not in CM6.
The thing is, my school has a login page that allows a student to login using his id and password and whenever someone tries to navigate to a page (google for example), the server would redirect to this login page first. Only after a user logs in, he can proceed to surf the web.
It works perfectly fien on my laptop and used to work in the Sense ROMs but for some reason, it doesn't work in CM6. 3G data works perfectly though.
I tried searching the forum but couldn't find a similar question. Someone asked this question in the Cyanogen Mod forum too but it was left unanswered.

If I'm remembering correctly it could be our wifi driver may not be compatible with their router or something along g those lines. Somebody can correct me on that though. Also, at the public library where I live every once in a while I wont be able to use the wifi. It will say connected but no internet. But if I go back the next day it works fine (reset their routers maybe?)

Thank you for that!
Is there a workaround for this? I hate to use the 3G data connection (which is paid, thank you ATT ) instead of the free WiFi that I could use instead. Also, at the place where I work on campus, I get no 3G. All I get there is EDGE.
I had this problem happen to me and couldn't find a solution for it. The only solution I found was to go to Liberated (I use the HK kernel) instead of CM6.
i would try using CM7 instead of CM6.
the CM7 nightlies were slow. even CM6 is pretty slow unless the aria is overclocked and doing this ruins the battery life. But i still prefer to use cm6 (for now atleast). Is there a way this issue can be rectified in cm6?
Anyone?? Hello!! People say that the android development community is very active but I've always found it otherwise. People like Cyanogen and attn release great mods but not always help people out with their problems. Isn't that unfair?

I find this to be the complete opposite of what I have experienced. I just got my phone Feb. 23rd and have rooted it flashed 3 different rom's and a couple nightlys. Like stated before, just get on the irc chat and start asking, but I do guarantee if you go with this kind of attitude you won't get far Good luck and I hope your problems get resolved.
did you consider asking IT at your college or checking their website for information on wifi?

I'm guessing that you used your browser after enabling WiFi and disabling data and entered your username and password mentioned above? Does this page even show up for you after this update?
immediately after you connect to the wifi, go to browser and try to open up a new page, that login should show up. (this is based on other networks where i have done the same thing)

No, that's the point. This page just doesn't show up even if I specifically type in the address.

thanks. Tried it but did not work.
I realized that since I started using the CM6.1.1 ROM, my phone's IP address doesn't show up at my home wireless router's logs. All I can see is my MAC id.
Could that be the problem?
You might want to give this new CM7 based ROM a try. It's based on CM7 nightly 21 and it fixes the known issues with hidden SSID's and reconnecting to "remembered" networks. I'm running it now and it's excellent.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996331
Edit: I expect that the changes in this ROM will be merged into the regular CM7 nightly builds in the very near future.

I dunno why it's been deleted, but in any case, the problems that ROM was designed to fix have been addressed a long time ago and current versions of CM7 shouldn't have those issues.
I'm working with CM7 no problem with hidden wireless networks, but it do seems that the phone get less reception on the wireless network. even if I'm close to routers I get only 2-3 bars on the wireless icon. Don't know why is that.

[Q] 2 questions regarding wifi and this forum

1) how can I improve wifi on my tablet. Seems like if I'm not right next to my router then I don't have internet. Note: all other electronic devices in my home including cell phone work everywhere.
2) when I click search on this forum my keyboard appears and then disappears and I'm not able to type anything. I was able to log in filling out the boxes on my grab but what s going in with the search function? VBulletin problem?
2) when it brings up the text box long press on it until the options window shows up and then hit back. You can also try flipping the tab to portrate and clicking the search button. These are the only ways it has worked for me from my gtab.
1) what kernel / rom combo are you using?
Thanks. Using CM7 stable.

So stock with pershoots kernel. You might want to try flashing his latest kernel and see if it kicks it up a notch. You can find his thread in the development section. You can also download wifiAnalyzer from the market and track where you get the best reception and you can see if your router signal is being overlapped by other wifi signals. I had 3 neighbors with there routers set on channel 6 I moved mine to 11 to clear up my signal and wifi got way better.

I doubt it. Basically brand new.

[Q] VPN Ipsec/l2tp PSK crash

Hello everyone,
I've been trying to set up a VPN connection to my work for my TFP using IPsec/l2tp PSK. But each time I try to connect it just reboots.
I got the catlog through adb while connecting to the VPN server for debug:
pastebin dot com/Le2Nrjkr
I read many other threads on similar problems and it is not just the TFP that has this issue. If anyone can understand the log and shed some light as to why this happens I'd be eternally greatful, as the VPN (RDP) was my main reason for purchasing this tablet.
Nobody has this problem or recognizes this as a MAJOR bug?
Dont tell me to use OpenVPN cause I can't tell my boss to pay for a service which was already supposed to work when buying a 600 euro tablet.
I already tried to manually load tun.ko, ah4.ko, xfrm_user.ko, xfrm4_mode_tunnel.ko, md4.ko, ipip.ko, iforce.ko, ff-memless.ko and cifs.ko kernel modules. But still doesn't work.
Yep, I'm seeing this too. I posted in the general section by accident and my post was deleted. I've raised a PureVPN ticket. Will report back if anything is found.
Sorry that i have no input regarding your problem but i also want to buy this tablet and i need to check if vpnc works on this thing. Can someone with root download from market "Vpnc" and inside the app press "check prerequisites" and post back the result. Thank you very much.
mdalacu, can't help I'm afraid as my device isn't rooted. Try creating a new thread.
I've contacted ASUS support too, and will update the thread with any new info.

Here is what it says for me on rooted TFP.
"Running tests...
Warning: 'Advanced Routing' feature missing - VPN connectivity might be lost after a while
But VPNC Widget should work limited on this phone"
But ofcourse, I'm the one with the broken VPN issue
Thank you for you answer, now i am more confused as before... should i buy or not... my instinct tells me to wait for a new Samsung tablet but i have a terrible itch ... i will go insane...

Thx, but I don't think the people at PureVPN will be able to help you/us as this is an android issue and not a purevpn issue.
Plus, I want to connect to a Win2008 vpn-machine at work, not a vpn server in another country...
Alternatively, since I use the 3G connection on my HTC Desire as wifi hotspot, can I connect to the VPN server with my Desire and have the TFP connected with wifi going through that vpn tunnel?
It's only a solution via 3G and not public wifi, but I'll take what I can get untill a permanent fix is found.
Anyone know how to do this?
update: I've been playing with the routing tables and iptables -I FORWARD ACCEPT but still no luck. Maybe I missed something?
Anyone else got experience with this?
PureVPN told me to try PPTP, but that didn't work. Still waiting to hear from ASUS.

Maybe that's why Asus didn't ship the VPN/IPsec modules by default?
Seems like they did their homework and removed support for broken features, before they ship them

Yeah, and perform a nice clean re-boot if you try and use the non-existant features!
I've just received a reply from ASUS. Essentially they are asking me to do a data wipe to see if that solves the problem. Given that I did a complete factory reset prior to trying VPN I'm fairly sure that this won't solve anything and leave me to re-download all my apps.
Has anyone actually managed to get L2TP working on this device?
No L2TP here, but I can report that the built-in PPTP does work fine.

At Asus.com. They got back to me after I said I wouldn't do a data wipe and told me they would try and reproduce it.
This is just an update: I was told told by ASUS they'd release a new firmware this weekend, and that this issue should be solved with it.

WIFI Connected but no internet. Please help! I Have tried everything!

Hi Everyone!
If this is in the wrong place I apologise,
I have been using the AOSP ROM (http://en.miui.com/thread-502828-1-1.html)
Everything was fine using the March version of the ROM but I installed the 20/5/2017 version and i started (every now and then) getting my WIFI saying connected but no internet... I then cannot use my browser, apps that need WIFI etc until i reboot my phone then works ok again for a while.
They then released an update 21st and also one after that 23rd. I have tried both the updates and i still get the error, I have done a clean install both times and wiped the cashes. I have also tried this .>> http://www.techsiddhi.com/2014/05/how-to-resolve-connected-to-wifi-but-no.html
i have tried to change to static IP on my device but wont allow me to save changes i am out of ideas and really dont know what to do, I dont think its an issue with the ROM but maybe my router, i just dont know...
I appreciate any help you guys could give!
Many thanks
Matthew

Well you can flash this ROM http://bit.ly/2qdTEz0 which is the latest xiaomi.eu stable ROM for Redmi Note 4 MTK and Magisk Manager V12 for root http://bit.ly/2puOFMA .

Which router do you have ?
I had issues with Wi-Fi on a bt home hub (previous to this phone though) which had similar symptoms.
I got around it by tweaking the settings in the hub (disabled band steering, so that 2.4ghz and 5ghz have different ssid's. Also set 2.4 to be"mode 3")
A long shot, that you have the same router, I know.

Thanks very much for the info George I really appreciate the effort you have put into finding the information for me, I was no a fan of the Chinese ROM that came with the phone that's why i looked into installing a custom ROM and apart from the current issue I am very happy with it.
I have downloaded the Global ROM and Magisk films so that if I cannot find a solution soon I can give it a try.... I always get nervous when rooting/flashing new software as I always worry about boot loops etc as i am fairly new to all this.

Thanks very much for getting back to me I really appreciate it! I definitely think were on the right track, my router is a SKY Fibre router but I can't say I understand what you are talking about lol... I have been into the router settings and had a look, one think i have noticed is even tho I have changed my ROM 3 times, starting from scratch each time it is still allocated the same ip address etc.. (192.168.1.6) so it seems to be carrying the problem over each time.
I have tried rebooting the router, phone several times I did try and follow steps to change to a static IP from my modify network on my phone but would not allow me to save the changes..
I did read that I should try and go into developer options and enable "Use legacy DHCP client) I did this after flashing the latest version of the AOSP ROM (23/5/2017) so far its been ok but i'm not sure if it will last. I just don't understand what the problem is??
Thanks again guys for all your help and I hope I can get to the bottom of it!

Did you upgrade it or do a clean flash? Try a clean flash if you didn't. I am using the latest build of the same ROM, no problems at all.

Each of the 3 time I have done a full wipe and cleared all cashes etc....
Also, you are not restoring Amplify settings from the download page? Are you able to connect to other routers?
The router is assigning you the same up address each time because your Mac address isn't being changed when you flash new Rom (Mac address is unique 12 digit number, hard coded into the radio on your phone. It should stay the same. You can change it temporarily by spoofing. Do not pay attention to this though, it is for info only, just so you know what's happening )
Your router recognises the Mac address of the phone and issues it the same ip address that's been given before, by dhcp.

Well I was wrong. I just tried this app and it doesn't seem to work with our device.
I said in my post, I was explaining, just for info.
It'll likely be some erroneous setting in his sky router. Sky are well known for issuing appalling hardware with their connections(and forcing customers to use them by refusing to give adsl login details, so people can use their own supplied hardware)
Another poster asked if op has the same issue using other routers - I'll bet that it's just with this one router.

Well still having the issues!
I have clean flashed MIUI Global ROM and still have the issue, I have now put AOSP ROM Back on as its sooooo much better than MIUI as I can safely say its nothing to do with the phone itself and seems to be a router/phone settings issue but i still dont really know what to do..
Over the last week or so I have noticed workmen looking at out local green fibre box and wondering if it is an issue with the line so I might give SKY a ring and see whats the issue.

Just to give you guys a bit of an update...
I have just got of the phone with SKY now and they have asked me to change the channel from auto to channel 13 and also to select WPA/WPA2-PSK.
As i was on the phone to them my phone did the "connected no internet" thing and i used my laptop to make the changes to the router and after a few seconds my phone connected again so I am hoping that this may have fixed the issue! Fingers crossed!
Still doing it! So I have installed EPIC ROM and my router has given a different ip address so fingers crossed it wont do it anymore, been a few hours and so far so good...
totally late to this, but i'm facing the same problem on my redmi y2. the router that i'm using is TP Link archer C50. no custom rom or anything. please help
li faced a similar problem as my phone won't detect wifi signal from my router, i reset my phone but only after 15 minutes my phone can't detect signal from my router but problem solved when i switched aeroplane mode on and than off as soon as i switched it off wifi signal was detected and my phone got connected to it. Sometimes it shows no internet i switch aeroplane mode on & than off and it starts to work again or it gets fixed automatically too. You can try too it may help.

WiFi channels 12 and 13 - unable to see them

Hello all!
As the title suggests, I found out that the networks operating on these channels are not seen by my Le Max2.
Up to now I had no any problem regarding this, and I was also not aware that I cannot see a wifi network with this phone. It all came to light about a week ago at my workplace where we have multiple Cisco routers installed on various places. Moving around, I noticed that some networks show up, some don't. It's frustrating to see that you have no network where you'll spend your next hours.
I changed the modems, hoping that it will solve the problem, and it kind of did for some time. I was using 26s modem for a long time and all was fine. Then suddenly the networks started to disappear and I was forced to try various versions. With 016s US it worked for about 2 days, then again stopped detecting the networks. After that I've changed multiple modems from 023s to RU, to developer, to US again, etc... Nothing worked. I then used the modules in Magisk and Xposed to extend the wifi channels, they also didn't work...
Currently running AICP 8.1 on my X820, but switching between the ROMs mostly, as I'm not settled on a specific one. I guess that now I'm having 028s modem installed. There is no option to change the settings of the routers as they are locked down.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
I had exactly the same problem - several wifi routers cant be seen by my phone, sometimes they appeared in wifi list (strange, but only when Sim card was inserted, didnt test if it was channel numbers related), but all those problems disappeared and now my x829 can see my router everytime even without sim inserted. It got fixed for me after flashing India 19s stock rom - try it out if you haven't already - https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/how-to/le-max-2-official-stock-firmware-links-t3433761
Thanks a lot. I cannot download the full ROM, but I will try just the modem. The Internet connection is quite bad for downloading a file that large.
Will post the results after flashing the modem.
Hello again.
After installing the Indian 019s modem, still I couldn't see the networks. Reinstalled aicp, but this time after installation, the airplane mode was Off and the phone received GSM signal. Now looks like I can see the wifi networks on channels 12 and 13.
I understand the relationship between the sim card and the WiFi channels, but isn't there something that can be done to set it manually, and something that will work?
Like I told - only switching to Full India 19s stock rom, not modem only helped me and btw fixed 4g network drops problem.
Thanks for the answer. Going back to the past is not the option unfortunately. All this "Wi-Fi channel" problem is ROM related, you are right, and it depends if the developers added a region or not in their ROMs.
I searched a lot in the last days and looks like the culprit is wifi-service.odex that is located in system/framework/oat/arm64. This file takes information from the SIM card once it receives GSM signal and it determines the region where you are located. In this way, it restricts the wifi channels. Unfortunately if you don't have GSM signal (like me), then it limits the working channels to 1-11, not showing 12 and 13. As soon as the GSM signal appears, and the phone recognizes the region as being an unrestrictive one, then it releases the channels 12 and 13.
The thing is that once this file gets modified, the restrictions are gone. Most of the users reported that setting the zone to US is the best as it is one of the less restrictive. I hope that the devs will consider this in their future releases.
Now, what can I do?! I can flood all the development threads with this request, or try to modify the file myself. As I'm not that good in decompiling apps, I will still try it, not even considering the option no 1.
Maybe somebody with a bit more experience can give me a hand and change the wifi-service.odex

Hi,
you asked for help at "LG G4 WiFi Fix - Always all channels on 2.4 GHz" (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76161940&postcount=10)
Please do not "flood all the development threads with this request". Thank you.
If you need help from specific users you can link them or quote their posts. That should be enough.
Here are some suggestions for investigation:
-Analyze the Logacat outputs while you activate airplane mode.
Search for lines like "country code to" or just the word wifi.
For that you could use the app Catlog, but I recommend using ADB to read logcat outputs.
For more details read https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726238
If you found something interesting, post it here as a filedump or in HIDE tags.
-Analyze your /system file structure. Different Android versions and devices use different file structure.
".jar" files could be replaced by ".odex" files. Sometimes there a ".oat" files.
Newer smartphones have arm and arm64 folders.
You can create a dump of your system's framework structure with
Code:
ls -lR /system/framework > file-structure.txt
And please provide more details from your phone, e.g. exact Android version, ROM version, rooting status, ...
If you want, you can upload wifi-service.odex or other files of your ROM.
Maybe someone can analyze them for you.
-Search for files in /data/data and /system that could be releated to your issue.
For example /data/data/com.android.providers.settings and /data/data/com.android.providers.settings have interesting ".db" files.
In /system/etc/wifi one will find the wpa_supplicant.conf
There are other files that should be inspected.
Good luck :fingers-crossed:
