Flashing X10a - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I downloaded the flashtool and the folder for 2.1,which is on my pc desktop. How do I combine the two folders? Haven't extracted flashtool yet.
And how do I keep all the apps I have, even the pre- installed apps, then go back and delete the ones I don't want?
Have Titanium backup download in the mobile. Also purchased SD micro sd 8GB card. Can I back apps onto sd card?
All help and advice is appreciated,I am a novice at this,so I DO NOT want to brick my mobile, paid too much for it! !
Thank-you.

Go here for a guide...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Although you want to keep your preinstalled apps, if you flash to the generic 2.1 you are basically debranding your phone and all the preinstalled apps will be removed. You could try "my backup root" but im not too sure if it will work. Plus it's nearly impossible to brick your phone..just make sure you follow the guide.

Flashing Xperia
Wow;
This is so cool!! Thank you ever so much for the link and the advice. Another question;do you think I can redownload some of the at&t apps?

There's only a select few you can probably get back from the market for free. But most of the AT&Ts apps can easily be replaceable with other free and probably better apps from the market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746- probably more help for flashtool

I agree, but I like there navigation, and have a subscription. But thank-you for the info.

Now,I gave a trial run,And think the flash MIGHT be successful. Now,I have Titanium, will this backup my current apps,or do I have to re-download them? And what about my browser bookmarks? Am I able to keep the oned I have now? Oh And I have a brand-new SanDisk 8GB micro sd card, should I put that into the mobile?
Any and all suggestions are helpful, and thank-you once again for the advice and help!!

Did all the downloads, are followed the instructions to the tee about combining the generic firmware into the firmware file,or something of that nature. A little nervous about flashing, but I'm going to do it. After flashing, should I use SEPC Companion to update OS to update OS?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App

If i understand u, if u flash with flashtool, u want to flash over with pc comanion? If thats the case, u dont need to because u already picked the firmware with the baseband u wanted. So once u used flashtool u r done.
I saw u got titanium backup. U know your phone must be rooted right to use it? U can use flashtool to root too after u flashed the 2.1 update

It looks like you're on the right path, but here's a step by step guide that will answer all your questions especially for AT&T X10a.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012380
You can't use Titanium Backup until after you have rooted. Instead use Mybackup, free in the Market.

Yes,I believe so. And yes,I know I can root AND have SUPERONECLICK up and running. Boy,I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!! Guess I am becoming tech savvy after all.
If you can, give me reasons WHY I should root. Once you reply, will give it a go.
And really, thank-you so much for your help and guidance, couldn't have done it without it

Wow!! Goosebumps!! Thanks for the link,a fantastic thread. Will take both of your advice:download mybackup, put it fresh,brand-new 8GB micro sd,and backup apps. If you think it is also advisable to root, will do that also. For the ROM,what do YOU advise? That is what you change when rooting, correct?
Your info has been DO VERY VALUABLE, THANK-YOU EVER SO MUCH!!

Rooting allows you to remove preinstalled SE system apps that you don't use, like Timescape and Face Recognition, which will greatly increase performance. It also allows you to enable JIT (optimize), and install xRecovery. See the guide I linked above for safe system apps to remove.

I cannot believe it!! I did the root, when I sort of whacked my phone up,SE PC Companion came to the rescue.
It is like having a new mobile!! The changes are major, same withthe apps, but I certainly live with the changed.
Now,how do I get rid of Mocked,by rooting? I don't need it,so I wouldlike to delete it.
Thank you for your guidance, advice and help. Wouldn't have done it without it!!

Need help new to Android

Hi guys
I'm a noob when it comes to android and rooting. I wanted to know if I root my x10i can I go back to standard firmware if needed? And can I keep timescape?
I'm from South Africa and we have not received any firmware updates. I tried debranding and didn't like all the extra stuff I got in the install so I went back to my old firmware. If I root what happens to firmware updates? I understand the benefits but as I said I'm new so I don't really know what to do with a rooted phone.
Thanks any feed back will be appreciated
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
you can keep what you what and restore to unroot state .... but if you are new to android or linux DONT root you can bring the os to an unbootable state....
Is there no way back if I brick it?
How can I get enough info to know what to do. I'v neva used linex.b4
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
After rooting, you can go back to standard firmware the same way you did it after debranding.
From my understanding, if you update firmware normally you'll lose root. Otherwise, you'd have to update to the newest 'rooted' firmware as posted on XDA if you want to update.
Thanks man that really clarified alot. Do u think its worth it if I go for a root for the time being since there's no updates in my country
Thanks guys
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
If your firmware is really old (click left button>settings>About phone and read the build number at the very bottom, if it ends in 14 or 16 it is the older firmware) It seems worth it to update. Though apparently, the newest root method version (gives you firmware ending in 023) doesn't seem to be the best in battery life. You may want to stick with the link for 'OLD VERSION 1' in the guide (the link's crossed out, but you can still click it to download the files) that will give you firmware ending in 020 which I think gives better battery life.
Only prob is, flashing causes all your settings and apps to go away. So backup your messages and contacts and things. Your SD card doesn't get wiped, but the phone does.
I do have r14, that's y I wanted the update cz I know that 23 is out in other countries. I'll try the root and save my old files so that I can revert if I have a problem later on.
And in case off bricking is there a way to undo it?
Thanks
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Real 'bricking' means the device is DEAD.
I had a problem where my phone gave an exclamation mark logo when booting, and thats all it did. I went through debranding (reflashing) again, and it worked after. So I guess if you get stuck, just reflash.
Ok great, as long as I can fix it if there's a problem I'll try it. Anyway thanks a lot. I really appreciate all the help and the quick replies. There's alot of stuff I still don't understand but I'll check the other posts if I don't get anything I'll put something up.
Thanks again

[Q] Need Help to remove bollywoodji and other stuff

I have successfully flashed my 2.2.1 O1 with 2.2 rom and have rooted using z4root. Now how do i remove the preloaded apps from the phone. Please help. XDA Rocks!!!!
Use Titanium back-up.

@Anami how did you flash the 2.2 on o1. I tried it once with KDz update and got stuck one the lg logo and had to take it to LG service center !!
Could you elaborate a little.
@gokul I dowloaded the kdz updater and followhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875881ed the instructions given .
Be patient and be sure to download the right rom and also disable lg modem and have usb debugging on. Also be sure to use a win xp pc. Hope i helped.
I want a step by step as well!
Hi there! I just purchased an indian LG Optimus one and i want to root it, any recommendations about the flashing? did you experienced any loss of data or something? should I do a backup? Everything went well since the first time?
Thanks in advance, cheers!
Try this frm Indian Website
http://androidos.in/2010/12/how-to-root-lg-optimus-one-remove-unwanted-apps/
(I cannot post links due to forum rules, so i'll give the description)
There is a blog in blogspot called lgoptimusonep500
There's quite useful info there.
@kid robot
Well i had no problem in flashing. Just follow the thread the word and there should be no problem. And my data was not lost after flashing.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Finally!
Yay!
After some issues, i managed to flash it working like a charm!
Titanium Backup will do the job quite nicely
Use of free space in ROM?
It is possible to remove preinstalled apps. But does it only free some space in ROM-memory? How is it possible to use that for new apps which are installed in RAM?
@anami can you give the link to the right rom for kdz. I think I should try the one u used ..
Titanium Backup is an easy way to remove pre installed applications.

Go here and get Super One click, you can also folow that tutorial but like you I was new to this and ran into a few problems following that tutorial (Very simple problems to get by but i didn't realise lol)
Any way here we go:
Things you need:
Super one click - Get it from here as this one worked for me
link2sd (off the andriod market, this alows your apps to install to sd card)
titanium backup free or pro (you can get busybox from this and also uninstall everthing you don't want on the phone but be carefull)
But first
Lets stats at the begining,
connect your phone/mount just normal connect then go here and follow the steps, after that restart your phone (Don't worry if your phone displays an error before you restart just reboot)
Now go into you settings, applications, Development then tick USB Debugging (You can also go to settings Sound and Display, Screen time Out and set it to 30 mins)
after doing so run super one click on you computer, connect your phone but select charge phone this time, then click root (If the usb conection screen reapears on your phone just re-click charge phone) and when it is done it will ask you if you want to do a test before you click yes disconect your phone reboot it, connect again in charge mode then click yes and ok to the next message then on your phone you should get a message from the super use app click allow.
righty oh asuming everything has gone well download titanium backup (free or pro, i use free lol) once installed go on it and click problem alow it with the super user, and click 'Problems?' then 'Get busybox'.
after that you'll be able to uninstall stock apps, finaly if you want your apps to gon onto your sd instead of phone memory get link2sd of the andriod market if not don't lol, once you have it go on it allow with super user and click the FAT somthing option sorry can't remember but you can't miss it (bottome one) click ok then you can sellect apps to move to your sd
and we are DONE hope this helped as I never had anyone explain in depth to me lol anyway any problems i'd be more than happy to help out
Enjoy and hope everything goes well for you

if i rooted my mobile ,what could be thing which i could experience/get with the phone ?
Rooting your phone allows backups/restore, custom roms, able to install/delete system apps. It basically frees any restrictions on the phone

1. nope, rooting your phone will not delete any data..
2. not necessary, well if you insist, you always can backup first, for later use
3. maybe you can check this app here : this app cal MyBackup, if you like this app, you can purchase the pro version

Sounds like you didn't pay much attention to the instructions for unlocking your bootloader... There are a few warnings in there...

You have to go back to stock firmware and then relock the bootloader (press the restore button in S1Tool), don't use the x10blrelock from flashtool.
I hope your signal will be back by then, and i guess you'll be stuck with ROMS that run on stock kernel.

[Q] How to install Data2SD (for CM 6.1.3 - Wolfbreak)

Hi guys, need some help on how to do this. I've done a LOT of searches on the web and on here specifically. All instructions online seem to vary (phone to phone) and even within the x10.
So, if anyone would care to help me (and any other people that may need it) on how to install this (on Wolbreak's ROM) step-by-step; I would be EXTREMELY grateful!
Thanks guys.
U know that data2sd is unstable. But the link is in wolfbreaks ROMS link in development section. Look for it there

i want to know how to REMOVE it, i wanna see if theres really a difference or if im just convincing myself there is.
since it seems some ppl it lags and some it doesnt.
so can someone tell me how to remove data2sd ?
I honestly don't know how to remove it other than reflashing your current rom then restore your apps with titanium backup
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
So, any defintive way or steps that one would follow on how exactly this would be installed?
Last time I was trying out data2sd the guy who posted instructions said that you can stop using it just by renaming or deleting the data image, I'm not sure what's it called but for me it was in xrecovery folder on sd card.

[Q] noob Questions

Hey guys just got the x10 a FW- 2.1-update1 baseband 2.1.55
can this be rooted?
if so what is the best way to do so which tutorial would be easiest for a noob? ( while doing research about rooting found three different tutorials on rooting which confused me even more one was one click, the one here and one from xperiax10.net)
i just want to take off some unwanted apps like moxier stuff and time scape
by doing this will it preform better?
or would i need JIT?
sorry for so many questions just want to be sure
Find superoneclick on devs thread. Removing unwanted apps you need titanium back up, found at the market.
Im sorry i cant give you the link cause im on mobile.
Sent from my X10 using XDA Premium App
You can root via flashtool/superoneclick. Download the flashtool from xda link and once you run the program click root. It should install superuser, thus allowing you to download titanium backup from the market which allows you to take off unwanted apps.
that's all i need?
someone said something about android drivers and to back up data?
Heres superoneclick if you havent found it already...
