TNTLite 4.4 issues - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
First time poster but have been reading and browsing for a couple month now and have been able to find fixes for all the issues on my own. I have however had this one issue from the beginning and have not found any fixes or even the issue being mentioned (been using TnTLite the entire time, going up the versions from early 3's to now 4.4).
When my Gtab goes to sleep or even sits idle for a while my WiFi just stops working. The connection is still there and Gtab thinks it's connected but I can't access the net until I turn Wifi off and on and then it works until I let it sit or the screen shuts off. This is annoying at the least and I would love to fix it, even if I have to go to a different ROM (but I do like TnTLite above others).
Does anyone find version 4.4 more laggy than 4.2.5? Gtab is just not as responsive and I seem to have a Flash issue where net videos crash after working for 1-15min.
Also I have CWM 0.8 and when I try to flash with a MicroSD I keep going back into CWM. I changed SDCARD to SDCARD2 in the common file but still my card is not being read. Basically if I want to install the stock ROM and nothing else I can't cause it only boots into CWM and not the SD card. I do have the card formated in FAT32 at 2048. Am I missing something, do I need to uninstall CMW first somehow?

If you re-read the first post in the TnT Lite 4.4 thread, you'll see that you can toggle the CWM back to stock recovery with some built in commands.

Yeah, I saw that as one of the options but I want to be able to patch via the micro SD card and CWM seems to be interfering with that. I mean if I revert to stock with CWM I will still have CWM installed. I want the true original state but more than that I want the MicroSD card recovery to work.

Switching to stock recovery removes CWM and will allow you to use the MicroSD to install. All you have to do is put a file named "command" in the recovery folder on your MicroSD card with the following contents:
--update_package=SDCARD2:/update.zip
When you reboot into recovery it will find that command and execute the update.zip on your MicroSD card.

Thank you!
It was my suspicion that CWM is interfering but I also had recovered from the SD card a couple times even with CWM installed, at least I think so, but it is good to know. I'm also still having issues with net video crashing now and again. The screen goes white and I have to reboot. Started when I installed 4.4 and now that I reverted back to 4.2.5 it is much better but still I had it happen just now and it never did before 4.4. The upgrade to 4.4 also slowed the tablet down which did improve as I went back to 4.2.5.

Try going into CWM and wipe dalvik cache and also do fix permissions, usually cures most of those problems after going from one version to another.

What exactly am I loosing when I wipe delvik cache, do you know? And thanks for the suggestion, haven't tried that yet.

[Q] All Gingerbread ROMs hang on reboot

I currently have cwm .8 and vegan 5.1.1 running without issue and backed up.
I have tried several different gingerbread roms and all of them get stuck on the static image screen before the boot animation.
I have made sure to wipe boot, system, data, dalvik, and cache as well as running Calkulin's Format.zip all prior to rebooting. I also have tried installing the ROMs with or without the Google apps addition. All with the same results.
Internal SDcard partitioned to 2048/0
Is there anything else I can try?
Are you sure they are all hanging at the boot screen? Most of the roms first boot takes a awhile for the cache to get filled with the data it needs to perform.
After the first few boots everything usually goes smooth from then on.

I am a patient fellow. I waited 20min at minimum for each ROM and none have ever made it to the animated boot screen.
I'm having the same issue with mine.. vegantab 5.1 works fine..
none of the gingerbread based roms get passed the viewsonic logo for me.
Same problem here.
All of the GB roms freeze at the android screen.
I have tried everything, I am a serial flasher on my D1 and on the gtab with the froyo builds and consider myself very familiar with the process and it still confuses me...
These are all new gTabs right? Have any of you repartitioned the internal sdcard yet? That option is in CWM recovery. There is a thread on it somewhere too. Basically it wipes the /SDCARD space and repartitions it. The FAQ thread has information on partition sizes too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874258

I have been using the highly recommended 2048/0 as I did not see any details in the threads for the GB ROMs detailing otherwise. Sorry I forgot to mention that in my OP.
-edit-
Repartitioned to 2048/0 and also tried 4096/256. Issue persists

still a 2.2 ROM
Some progress! Following these steps will erase EVERYTHING from your device including the internal SD. Backup everything before you start.
After doing another restore to stock using nvflash
wipe everything via cwm (boot, system, data, cache, dalvik)
repartition sd to 4096/256
copy vegan ginger edition over to internal sd
it installed and booted up!
-edit-
and then I tried to install gapps and it won't boot again
Ran out of battery power to fully test but finally got it to boot after gapps install. Here are the steps I had to take:
wipe everything via cwm (boot, system, data, cache, dalvik)
repartition sd to 4096/256
Restore to stock using nvflash
did not let it boot into stock
reinstall .8 cwm from external sdcard
in cwm copy vegan ginger edition.zip and gapps.zip over to internal sd
Installed ROM then gapps
reboot
(note: after returning to stock I did not wipe anything with cwm)

Good work, quick question, you said you reinstalled cwm from external sdcard, does that mean you used the "cwmod_microsd.zip" from the "[STICKY][GUIDE] Install ClockworkMod, a ROM, Flash Player, and the Market Fix" post?
I have always used the internal one and was wondering if that made a difference.

Yes that should be the same file. Looks like it was recently renamed as I had it labeled external rather than microsd. It isn't really a different cwm I used it so I wouldn't have to let the stock OS boot up and I kept it on the external sdcard so when I repartitioned the internal card I wouldn't loose it. I reloaded to stock many, many, many times trying to get this to work.
I'm currently using the experimental VEGAN Ginger Edition. It has some nice features but the videos for Dungeon Defenders don't play, and the keyboard is a little strange.

This work for anyone else? These Woot batches are introducing some issues.
I've had my tablet since early Feb. and I had issues with GB roms when I started trying them too. I found that the steps that worked best for me were pretty much the same as above. Mine are assuming that the tab is coming from something other than stock...
Wipe data, cache, dalvik and Battery Stats... (not sure the battery stats wipe matters)
NV Flash back to stock
Load CWM .08
Repeat Wipe
Load GB Rom
Repeat Wipe
Load rom devs recommended gapps version
Reboot
This USUALLY results in success. I still have mixed results getting gapps installed with some GB roms...once in a while I have to change up the steps and reboot PRIOR to gapps.
I've only had to repartition a few times, but the 2/0 option is the norm for me...and I usually only have to do this after I've made a big mistake, or things start to act "off" with the tablet.....
I think I read in one of the posts over on the dev side that most of the roms are written with the stock bootloader in mind and that it's just good policy to learn NVFlash and use it if you have any issues going from one rom to another.
I've been spending A LOT of time on this site since I got my gtab, too much probably. Usually, about 6 pages into a rom post, the answers to whatever issues we have with install are answered. It seems like mostly page 1 - 4 are people excited to flash...or saying thanks... pages 4 to like 10 are full of the answers to the questions "Why can't, Why didn't, how come..."...and then 10 - 10000 are just plain fun to read. ;-)
Good luck, this Tab is a ton of fon. I was super excited when the woot sale went down. I figure if even 4 or 5 more programmer types ordered one....that could mean 4 or 5 new roms for us to play with!

What process did you follow is it the same as tdg2100
Edit: I follow the same process as TDG2100 and it works w00t!! I think this should be included in a sticky somewhere people are going to struggle with this if they don't know how to get out of it.
Also question. Does this mean EVERY ginger ROM I have to flash has to go back via the NVFlash ROM route or can I just upgrade? Just curious, though at this point CM7 w/TT I doubt I'll be changing soon.

Worked for me also.
Matt
I had the same issue and I fixed it by:
1) Boot to clockwork
2) Go to mounts and storage and click "format system"
3) Then wipe data/factory reset
4) After that clear the cache
5) Then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache
6) Install cm7
7) Install gapps
8) Reboot
Now everything is working for me.
Hi XDA !
I also am stuck at the ViewSonic Birds window - I know how to install CWM etc but I cannot get this to be recognized on a PC via USB. Its almost like the USB isnt started on the GTablet. How do I reboot this thing? Holding down the Power and + button has no effect...

SGS2 Random Shutdowns

So yes there have been other threads recommending cleaning/tightening battery connectors, using monitoring programs to assess and alert on things like high temp and process cpu spikes etc... a lot of the time the issues raised have been to with someone only recently acquiring their SGS2, or after having "upgraded" their ROM.
Mine seems not to fit any of those scenarios.
A week ago, I found the phone off, so I switched it on and it bootlooped. Nothing new had installed prior, although the was an update to the ZD Box app which I read had problems, but I'd already uninstalled that. So, I rebooted the phone and it seemed to work fine. But no...
At random times whether the phone has been in my pocket or sitting on the desk, I will find the screen is black and none of the hardware buttons do anything. I have to hold the power button for quite some time before I see the Samsung logo and the phone boots up.
It happens several times a day. Battery/CPU monitoring/stats/alert apps show nothing out of the ordinary. I've uninstalled several recentish apps just in case, and no fix. Cleared all caches, fixed permissions, changed modems, no fix.
I'm now in the process of wiping data and flashing a different ROM (a newer version of illusion-xt to the one I've been using... excellent ROM btw), and I'll see if that solves anything.
What's weird is that I've had this phone for nearly a year and it's only just started happening now.
I'm wondering whether this sort of issue has become common with the SGS2 recently. Anyone else experiencing this, and is there are solution for it?
See how you go with the new rom.
If it's still happening, go back & do a completely clean install of stock; format cache, data, system, & internal sd card then flash stock rom in Odin (don't install any apps at all) & run that for a few days. If it's still happening on a relatively 'clean' stock phone, that probably indicates a hardware issue. Could be something simple like the battery, could be the USB/charging circuitry problem we see on here a bit or some other hardware problem.
See how you go with it & post back here.

Followed your recommended steps with the newer ROM. Seemed to be good for a day. I then found my phone off again while it was sitting next to me. I had just installed an app (from "untrusted" sources) just prior to this. So I uninstalled that. Found my phone off again a few minutes ago. This time the phone was hot and about 20% of the battery had drained.
Think I need to do another wipe of everything (except external SD) in case that app was the culprit?
[got a I9100]
if i were you i do this....
save my video/mp3.. stuff
remove microsd
remove sim
using cwm format system, data cache, dalvik, sdcard/emmc (depends on your cwm)
using odin flash a GB rom (i usually go with LA2 / JPLPC [ICS])
after first boot and few minutes dial *2767*3855#
next boot ill setup google account but will not do auto restore / untick auto restore.
shutdown remove battery put the simcard and see how it goes for a day or 2
It's switched off three more times today. The last time it happened the app "Battery Monitor Widget" alerted a "Voltage out of range" warning.
So far nothing's ever gone wrong while the phone is charging.
I may try formatting as has been suggested, but I think I'll try using a new battery first.
Please forgive my daftness as it seems I've misunderstood the instructions here.
Upon booting into CWM Recovery (I have v5.0.2.7) and navigating to "Mounts and Storage" I've discovered what you both mean by "format" in your instructions.
Would this mean following the Gingerbread section of the guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458 is what I need to do to get up and running, and then continue with the remaining instructions in this thread?

I have had this issue with certain ROMs in the past where I would get a black screen and no response from the hardware buttons. I found that on installing the ROM everything worked fine. Then I would go ahead and restore my apps, still everything was fine.... but once I configured Exchange sync I would run into the issue. My only option was to go back to a ROM that I knew worked on my device correctly.
In reply to your question above, If you have a ROM downloaded that you can flash in CWM then so long as it is stored on your SDCard you can format the system, data, internal SD and wipe cache, delvik cache from CWM. In doing this I would recommend making sure you know exactly what "internal SD" CWM is talking about. To be sure you could remove your SD card. I made the mistake of formatting the wrong card once and spent the next day recovering the data from it.
If you have the same issue with a new ROM then i'd recommend going back to a stock ROM using the link you posted.
Hope this helps.
I took my sdcard and sim out and rebooted just so I could see what would show up in the file manager. It would seem like there are no apps or mp3's or pics or anything "additional" available.
Strange as I don't recall ever using app to SD, and I could've sworn I saved at least a few MP3s and pics to the phone.
Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. Where would I normally find my app folders without the sdcard being present?
Ahh... so once you put the sim in (but still without sdcard) apps folders show up in "/sdcard"
hmm... does this sound correct?
why are you making things difficult?
put your sdcard back, open file browser goto sdcard dcim
you will find pics and videos there if they are saved on your phone storage. copy them to micro sdcard.
simple
if you are on aosp rom than the structure is little different
PS: doesn't matter your sim is in or out.
Stock ROM
/sdcard
/sdcard/external_sd
AOSP ROM
/sdcard
/emmc
As instructed I formatted partitions, installed latest official ICS ROM (for Australia) from sammobile.com using ODIN. Didn't install any apps. Didn't sync. I still have the "black-screen-freeze" at least once a day for several days. Today it's done it 5 times already. Sometimes I find the phone is hot, sometimes not, and a couple of times I've found the battery drained as well.
I can't seem to find a standard pattern that's reproducible.
What now?

DNA "phone storage unavailable" and other woes...

Hi all,
I didn't find any relevant threads through searches, so I'm reduced to asking for help. Please!
My DNA's been running great on Newt's ROM. I'm S-OFF, rooted, using CM, and all's been great. I'm on T-Mo. I installed the most recent patch on the OP page and, now, my phone won't connect to wifi and in settings>storage it shows "unavailable" for storage.
I've wiped cache and dalvik, done a factory reset, and everything I can think of to get things right - but to no avail so far. When connected to my PC, the phone shows up fine and I can see and delete phone files. But, I cannot copy to the phone so I can't put the ROM zip there to start anew. And, since wifi is in a perpetual "turning on" (but never does) I cannot download directly to the phone.
My phone works fine for calls and texts and data, but I can't install apps or get wifi working.
So, gang, any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks much,
Ross
EDIT to add more detail: I just realized that I cannot even access storage through CM recovery. I may be totally hosed, right? I tried to use the install zip and restore functions in CM, but it reports no files found. And if I go to Gallery, for example, on the phone it says "install SD card". I clearly have some serious memory issue (on my phone too...). Help?
You try flashing back to the original ROM before the patch?

Ok, what you're probably going to want to try to do is get rid of CWM Recovery - it has proven short sighted in comparison to TWRP. Do the following;
1. Flash TWRP for the DNA (via GooManager or grab the flashable zip and flash via fastboot)
2. Wipe EVERYTHING - Davik, Cache, Data, System.
3. TWRP Main > Advanced > Sideload
4. Use the 'sideload' command via ADB to flash whichever ROM that you'd like to be running.
5. Reboot System (If it tells you no OS installed, click install from the main and install sideload.zip, normally sideloading the ROM will install aswell, but not always.)
With this method, you start with fresh radios, fresh kernels and a fresh storage.
Hopefully this helps get you back where you'd like to be. I had to do this when I switched from NEWT's NOS 4.3 GPE back to NEWT's NOS MY S5 ROM.
Mushroomhead, thanks. I'm up and alive again!
EDIT to add detail, in case someone else encounters this:
I've not ever used sideload before, but I now understand why it exists. I followed the guidance above, with the exception of changing from CWM to TWRP. I may, indeed, do that and give it a try. But I was unable to download any app - or, for that matter, take any photos or access the Play store or do anything which accessed memory. I couldn't even access my backup files. So, I forged ahead with ClockWorkMod Recovery, using sideload to install the original Newt NOS ROM I had. That worked great.

Glad to hear it! I've been in the modding game since the G1 was released. I know a bit or two about tons of phones. HTC & RUU. Samsung and ODIN. LG and BLEH (don't ever by an LG device). Glad that it worked out for you man, keep on keeping on.

Phone is bootlooping after attempted ROM update

I was running AOKP 4.3 and downloaded the latest 10/30 update. I flashed in CWM recovery and everything took as normal. I wiped cache and dalvik and then rebooted. Apps updated as normal and lockscreen presented. I unlocked and immediately received two force closes (timely & swype) if I click them or not, if I unlock or not, the phone will crash and reboot every 6 or so seconds. Luckily, if I'm quick, I can reboot into recovery. I am in CWM but my external SD card won't mount so I can't load anything onto it and attempt a new flash and the only rom file on my internal SD is the one that got me in trouble here. I've gone back into recovery and attempted to wipe data/factory reset/etc. and nothing changes. Internal storage won't mount when I'm connected to my computer with a cable.
I don't mind losing everything and starting from scratch. I've tried to seek out my own info but there is SOO many threads and videos and I don't know where to start. Can someone please tell me the most efficient way to get back to a clean start? I was on JellyBeans from 1-22 and looking back that was probably more my speed. I shouldn't have tried to switch to 4.3 at all. I was able to run AOKP for about two months without issue but I seem to be out of my element here.
Can anyone smarter than me please take pity on me here? Sorry to waste your time as well.
Try just wiping the system, reflash rom and gapps. I think this keeps your apps in tact, if just not just use tb and restore. Otherwise full wipe sounds necessary, but not horrible. Just restore everything with tb

Problems with storage not recognized

I really need help. Major problem.
My storage is not working at all (external-SD card one). I'll try to give all the info about the problem and how it appeared:
My One X+ was on CM 10.1.3 with BLADE kernel 3.1.10 #201305062233 (I didn't use the included kernel in the ROM.zip, used an older version instead). Yesterday I tried to update to CM 10.2 Nightly (I think it was 20131105) but through the CM Updater. It downloaded the ROM and I updated it without flashing the boot.img previously and the phone rebooted and got stuck at bootscreen but, ok, than I tried to flash the kernel through the One X+ Toolkit and it failed. From this point, I may have made some stupid things but here's what I did:
I forgot to clean cache and dalvik cache and since I couldn't flash new kernel I decided to go back to the previous ROM 10.1.3 and after I did it (without wiping data) it rebooted and acted weirdly so I went back to recovery and cleaned cache, dalvik and did a SD card format(!) Reason I did it was cause it didn't recognize anything on SD card when connected to PC via USB, but DID recognize everything in CWM recovery under the Flash new zip - menu. After that, I got lost. One more thing I also forgot - Google apps. I did not flash the zip and now it was deleted from SD along with ROM.zip and other stuff. I thought of bringing it back to SD, but... all I'm getting is this( image one) its emty and when I open properties it shows this (image two). When I try to copy anything on it it doesn't allow me. In phone's file manager I can access internal memory (system, sys, acct, data, rfs, root...) but inside storage-folder is only folder-emulated. No sdcard0, sdcard, legacy and that kind of stuff and if I try to crate them they disappear after reboot. Long story-short, now I can't do ANYTHING! Cant copy stuff to SD, can't flash kernels and ROMs, can't install RUU (i tried that one too-no results, and yes, I did re lock the bootloader), cant't swap recovery, can't use my phone for anything except for calling, texting and searching in the browser (but cant download anything). Another bummer is that I can't access Gapps.
So, to sum up: no way of using SD with phone or PC. I hope there is a way for using my storage again but I can't think of any.
PLEASE help if anyone knows the answer. I'll appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Any other info, just ask.
