Best video calling app - Atrix 4G Themes and Apps

I'm using tango right now but the sound quality its terrible. Anybody have a better suggestion ?

does any really even use video calling here?

I tried using Tango and even on wifi it is slow. The sound/video is choppy. I installed Fring but havent tried it as of yet.

I actually like Tango. It's really one of the only apps ive used for this but seems to run fine for me. A bit lagged initially but once connected, works fine.
I wish Skype had support for the Atrix and video calling (

I've been trying a number of different options:
1. Tango. This one works the best. We've had good luck with it - if you can connect to the server. Most of the time we get a good connection, but sometimes we can't connect to the server. I'm not sure if it's because of the speed of our Internet at the time, or an overloaded server on their part. One of the things I really like about it, though, is that you can use it with anyone on apple or android OS who has at least one video camera. If they only have a rear-facing camera, it works. They just can't see you at the same time that you see them. We've used in on the Atrix, iPhone 3GS and iPad 2. Other pluses are that it can be used over WIFI or 3G and it rings on the recipients device whether they are logged in or not. It rings just like a phone call would. Audio seems good to me - once I turned up the volume.
2. Fring - that just keeps crashing on my phone. I haven't gotten very far.
3. Qik - The video that it took and uploaded would not play. Horrible quality. Not sure what the problem was.
4. Oovoo. It will work on a computer. Looks like it has possibilities, but it does not yet totally support the Atrix or the iPhone. I installed it on my Atrix. You can open it, but the call is still not totally working right. They say they are working hard to make it compatible with more phones.
5. Skype - I guess we all know about the audio problem here. That static makes it unusable for a voice call. Why oh why can't we get that fixed and add video? Skype says it's working on it for the Verizon network. Can they do that - just have android video Skype on one network? Skype video works great on our iPad 2. We can prop it up and have long conversations with the relatives.

tango video is ok for me however teh audio is soo choppy i cannot carry a conversation. Soo much for a front facing camera

I use qik, works well for me. Though I only video with the wife on her atrix also, so not sure how it is cross phone types.
Tango was horrid on the audio for me also..
I hear the yahoo messenger plugin for video chat works (even phone to PC) except only on the back camera... front cam doesn't seem to work on alot of the phones with it.

Using Qik for Atrix. Works great for me. Don't really video chat with anyone on another OS so this works great.

I've tried the Qik app, but it didn't list any of my contacts. And that made it a hassle to use. Tango seems simpler. All your contacts are updated. Qik doesn't have this ability apparently. Tango on the other hand was very "choppy" for me too. The lag between video and audio drives me crazy. But as most have said, this only seems to happen when reception is poor. I've had nothing but bad experiences with Qik. Its been hit or miss with Tango. But I'm gonna stick with it. I'm gonna be deleting Qik soon, Too much hassle.

[Q] *Dumb questions* Battery and Video Chat help

I got the Atrix 4G this morning (Feb. 21) and since I've had Android I have always wanted to know what the best way to save battery power is. Any help?
Also me and my friend like to video chat. I used to use Tango on my Captivate and it doesn't work on the Atrix (it keeps crashing). My friend is using a different Android device and I wanted to know if there was any good video chat/call apps that work well and aren't a pain to use.
If anyone could help that would be very nice.
try using qik there's a version specific for the atrix out there
have you tried skype?

My Skype has no video chat option. Fring is supposed to though.
What about yahoo messenger? It is supposed to have video chat but I have not tried it.
Go with TANGO. IMHO

I have tried Tango, but it keeps ending the call when I turn on video.

I can confirm that Tango also doesn't work for me. It crashes out quickly.
I don't want to have to sign up with qik for video chat. I was under the impression Tango worked better.

QIK is the only one that worked for me so far. But it was terrible quality no where near as good as face time

Working video chat?

Has anyone found a video chat app that works??

no not yet ... im new to this htc/droid stuff but im thinking they need to update all the apps for our phone .
i use yahoo messenger and it works ok
tango works and supposedly skype
Tango worked for me
I successfully used Tango with an iPhone user, but none of the other solutions worked.
I assumed Google Talk would work, but boy, was I wrong. I am almost a bit appalled that it was not ready, especially with no Skype. At least Skype was clear that they are working on something. Hopefully they will launch that for the Xoom at the same time.
Oovoo was an utter failure for me. Used the rear camera only and no sound.
Fring did not utilize video for Google Talk or MSN Messneger, so I didn't really try it.
I think if there is egg on Verizon's face, it is over not having a video chat service working for us.
i use tango, works pretty well, but for some reason get a screeching noise when tango'ing with another thunderbolt
Tango works for me. I was also able to make a video chat with a iphone that also had tango installed.

[Q] Skype "Support"?

A video link was posted in one of the threads here, in which the presenter said that the SGSII "supports" Skype.
Was that a dumb person's way of saying it has a fraont facing camera? Or has anyone actually ready anything specific about the SGSII coming preloaded with Skype?
Just wondering...
I hope it has video enabled Skype preloaded... but probably it won't have.
Most probably the woman in the video had no technical skills at all and just said that because it has a front facing camera... we'll see.
In either case, Skype is available via the market place, does it not support front facing camera?
I don't own a Android device as of yet so do not know. Can anyone confirm?

Skype is available in the Android Market, however there isn't a video-call support for Skype as of now, on Android.
There are a few videos/articles floating about that there's a version of Skype designed specifically for the HTC Thunderbolt that supports video calling over 3G/4G.
Perhaps that's what the person would be referring to? That the particular version of Skype for video calling could also come with the S II. Anyway this part's just my speculation.
Thats BS, I use Skype on the iPhone to do a low of video calling with my clients, it would suck if I cannot do that any longer.
What a turn off.
Going to bump this, anyone tried installing skype on the new S2 to see if video works?
someone from my local forum said that Fring has video support for sgs2
I have skype installed. It doesn't appear to have a video call option.

I can confirm that, no video support in Skype it seems.
just audio calls on skype, no video option maybe soon in update?
Skype's days are numbered one way or the other ... or do you really think Microsoft is going to offer a competitive Android client? (Would be a first, that one.)

Yahoo video on gb ROM

Has anyone had any success with video chat through yahoo messenger on a gingerbread ROM? I can make a call but it forces me to rear camera even with the new kernels... Anyone else?

Having the same problems here. I got that qik application to work properly, but the person on the other end of the video call says that the video is upside down. Had the same upside down issue on fring too. Hope we get this issue resolved soon. CM7 rc1.3
Nope, I use Google talk and it works fine...

Yahoo Messenger with the video plug in from the market only works from my phone to PC. At least for me. I can't seem to get it to work from phone to phone.
Google Talk works, but the video is sideways/upside down last I tried unless they fixed it.
fring works well but you get echos with the voices. Typically the sound is too low.
I never got Qik or Tango to work phone to phone.
Is there a fix to make the camera not be upside down on the distant end? If the fix is flashing CM7 or better yet CM9 that would be fine by me. Thanks.

Skype with Video on X2?

Has anyone got any sort of video calling working on the X2? I've downloaded the hacked Skype that lets you manually enable video calling, but checking the "force enable" box just makes Skype force close forever. I also can't ever get video from the other person, either on 3G or WiFi. Any success? I'd really love to have Skype, especially if I could send video. Even with only the back camera it's better than nothing.
I have never understood why we are not allowed to call with a back camera. I can easily set the kickstand on my case and transmit video. I understand that it would be difficult to see the other person's video, but I think that is my choice....
The worst part is, you can download the full version of skype that allows you to activate video calling so you dont have to use the hacked version and it still doesnt work.... I tried last night and it never would activate the camera.... And I was skype calling a computer not another phone...

Might try ooVoo..its free in the market. I've used it twice & worked both times, just sucks we only have the camera on back but it works
It's working now with the newest update.
On the newest Skype on the Market, video works just fine for me.
