how many sms do you have stored on your phone?
maybe it's because of my ~6000 sms

I have bout 3500 msgs....it does slow just before a message is recieved....not 30 sec tho...i thinks its got to do with go launcher and its notifications app I use along wid the go msg app....

i update my app (go sms) and now my SGS i9000B is runing very slow.... i have to uninstall the app:/

Must be a bug
I have more than 4000 sms, but it takes just a second to open the inbox. must be a problem with the new update i guess. install some old version and check. You can try Pansi sms, it's fast too. or chomp sms (old version)

Or try Lite mode.

[Q] SMS/MMS App for X10

Hi guys.
I recently installed 2.1 on my X10 and Sony's SMS app is so bad. Its slow and inefficient. When one sends a message the application blocks until the message is sent so you can't handle multiple conversations simultaneously. The loading of conversations also blocks the app so you can't do anything. On top of all this it is generally slow.
I went on a Quest to get a new app working. I tried Handcent and ChompSMS but they wouldn't send MMS messages and I wasn't happy with their interface.
I then tried to get the default Android 2.1 SMS app working but the picture took over the list view. (see attachment)
Has anyone ran into these problems and/or can suggest a better, more efficient SMS/MMS app?
Thanks in advance,
Scott
Erm... handscent sms supports MMS...
You just have to press the (+) button
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have been trying it but it won't send MMS for me nor receive any. (it seems to use the default messaging app to receive them and then reads the messaging database, but i had removed it to try the default android one [the one the pic]).
Ahhh okay
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Hey,
Do you find the stock app slow? Maybe i just have to re flash.
Scott
My problem with the SE app is that when you send to multiple recipients there's no equivalent to Handcent's 'send as split threads' setting. Makes it all messy and confusing imho. Can't say I'm taken with Handcent's interface, but it's functionality and ease of use is the best I've found.
No problem with SMS either.

hey all... i find different problem with sony's stock sms app...it seems like i can't send sms with more than 160 characters, but with other sms apps works fine. i really like the stock sms, runs really smooth...
i called the local s.e. support but as always, they don't have a clue about the problem
any help?

Hm , that's weird. Coming from my mere experience in Graphics either something is wrong with the .9.png files (have you edited or tried to edit anything at all!?) or something is wrong with the dpi of the icons used...
On the other hand I could be totaly wrong!

You want more than 160 characters?
Here in Greece we 're begging for 160 characters! We currently have 75 because all our alphabet consists of 'special-UNICODE' characters.
And If I'm not mistaken 160 is the maximum you can get anyway!
So I guess your next choice is e-mail instead of SMS , or Google Talk!

well the max sms i wrote contained 13 sms-es, so i'm kinda obsessed (yea yea, i could write mms instead)..and sorry 160 is not the maximum, coz with handcent sms i can send more than 160 characters, but i don't like the program...
the s.e. support said that that we should try to hard reset it and then it should work..but first backup! ... will report later
*EDIT - tested --> everything's the same....

I have not edited that photo in anyway. That's what the default AOSP Mms.apk looks like when put into Sony's 2.1 theme. Its useless in that state.
If you look for better sms app try Pure Messenger...for me it's almost perfect
A Way?
Now with all the ports of custom ROMs out there, does anyone know how to port over the stock SMS app to a Sony Ericsson based ROM?

Any good SMS replacement without ads? I tried Handcent and Chompsms but both have ads and no free-ads version.

Install Adfree to block adds and you are done.
Personaly I use Handcent. Has a lot conf options.
I use handcent too and didnt see any ads.
I like Handcent too, I think there's only adverts when yo go into the settings menu?
It would be nice to hear of some alternatives though..
4 or 3mb for a sms program I think is to much. I don't care themes and so on, I just want to download the mms' pictures, videos and the ability of send message to multi recipients...
I think I will develop my own sms program...

I fully agre with you. I use Chomp SMS. Its a 5+Mb file consuming about 7-8mb space on installation. Previously I used Handcent which is a bit lower in size- but after upgrade to 2.1 it force closes every time i try to save /add any unknown number (from which an SMS was recd) to my Contacts.
Anyway, will wait for your lightweight SMS/MMS app.

I was started to develop for android devices 2 days ago . The application can send and receive SMS, now I am trying to "call" the contact list to multiple recipes... After that I will start with the MMS support. Once I get this I will release the first beta version.
I am pretty slow coding in java because I have learned it last week, I am a c/c++ developer and I used to hate java

Good news pretty soon. Waiting for your beta release. Meantime I found a lightweight free SMS app (500+kb) in the market. Can have a look if you want. Its called "SMS Composer". The main thing which I liked about it is its Non-threaded conventional type. Messages ordered individually as per date & timewhen they were recd. Its buggy though. Its laggy. Senders' names are not shown in a few SMS from known saved contact numbers. Unknown numbers (from which SMS recd) can't be saved in contact - there is no such option in context menu.

Double messages recieving

hello
i got a weird problem on my phone and dont know if its the network,
when someone sends me a message i receive it like 2 to 4 times of the same message!
its been happening recently, could it be the ROM?
am using X10 mini pro V21 on stock firmware
+1
I'm also interested in this, as I have the exact same problem. Anyhow, I have noticed that problem on different ROMs, so this is not due to your ROM.
I thought the culprit was GOSms Pro, since other users have the same problem with that program.
Any (other) idea?
I have the same problem...
I'm not using gosms
I use the original and chomp but I deleted chomp and the problem isn't solved...
Hi there...
I don't know what software you use for sms, but since i had a similar problem with Go SMS Pro and solved it by reading the sugestions on first run of GO
It's very easy, justo go to your stock sms program and uncheck the options of new sms and mms notificarions, all of them
It's that easy...
P.s. - if you have other sms programs, uninstal them and/or do the same as for the stock program
Hope i provide some help.... and sorry for my bad English

am using the stock sms that comes with the mini cm7 pro v21
crazyskul: it's not a problem of double notification... actually receiving double SMS messages...
Ok, i didn't understand it erlier...
My girlfriend complained about a similar issue, but receiving my sms sent by GO SMS, (she has a normal touch phone, not smartphone) and not me receiving several like you do.
The solution : disable the option "split large messages" in " configuration " - "advanced conf." - "send conf."
I don't know if menu is exactly this, since mine are in Portuguese ...
Hope this solves your problem, since it splits sms larger than 160 chars in multiple sms similar, as my girlfriend complaindi...

It has nothing to do with disable notificiations...I use the stock messaging app... we actually get more messages from the same person...
does nobody has an answer to this problem cause it's really annoying...
I'm out of sugestions....
Do you have your fone rooted?
If so have you tried to "uninstall" the stock sms? Or block im thru Titanium? Or uninstall all sms apps and install GoSMS again?
Sent from my X10mini using XDA App
yes my phone is rooted...the original sms app and chomp sms have that problem and I think all the rest will be the same... it has something to do with my rom (MiniCM7Pro)
Have you tried to reflash the rom?
I never used that sms app, but with GOSMS as i earlier sais once happened when i enabled the "split large sms" in options, since i unchecked it never happened again.
Hope you can solve it fast cause its really annoying receive multiple equal sms or send.
Sent from my X10mini using XDA App
1 question : do you have the same issue if you just have the stock sms app installed? I mean with all the third party SMS apps uninstalled except the stock one
If so, maybe it's a rom problem, dim card or carrier, for the first try reinstall the rom or another one, if the issue pressists try your sim card in a dumb phone, those things from the past we used for calls and some sms... lol
if all those fail to solve your problem maybe it's a sim card problem, solution call your carrier provider demanding a new sim card, calling the assistance they can check and run some tests to it, at least im Portugal they do that
Cheers.

Just a guess on my side: I noticed I had this problem when using SetCPU.
In particular, I set a "Screen Off" profile, with low CPU frequency (120 min, 340 max), and profile "powersave": with these settings I got the problem, sometimes...
Now, I'm using the "smartass" governor of my ROM, and disabled SetCPU profiles, and I got no problem anymore
... but maybe that's not the real issue
EDIT: that's not a ROM problem, since I noticed this in different ROMs

Sure.
The main idea is: save battery life when screen is off, and phone is "idle".
One way is to install SetCPU, and set a "Screen Off" profile, with underclocked frequencies for the CPU (122-340 MHz) and "powersave" governor. This governor will try to keep the CPU clock as low as possible, so using less battery life...
Now, I noticed that the ROM implements a governor (smartass) that should do exactly the same: from setcpu web site:
smartass – Included in some custom kernels. The smartass governor effectively gives the phone an automatic Screen Off profile, keeping speeds at a minimum when the phone is idle

Now, I'm using this, and I noticed no more problems... but it's only a guess... I'm not sure this is the "real" cause

How to keep only 500 sms per contact ?

Hello.
This is my issue : I was on 4.1.2 with more than 50 000 sms (from 2009 to today, i'm nostalgic ) .
My phone was very slow, so I decided to update it on 4.3 (maybe it will not be slow anymore ?!), but it's worse : my "message" app crash 1/2...
First, is there a solution to keep my 50 000 on my phone without the fact that my SGS III is slow ?
If it's not possible, how to keep only 500 (for exemple, could be 200 etc) per contact ? Because i'm gonna have maybe 2000/3000 sms, and my phone will not be slow anymore.
How to do that ? Because with SMS backup and restore for exemple we could choose a date and just restore sms before the date, but I don't want that, I want to keep for exemple 500 sms for each contact.
Thanks in advance,
Hugo.

Yes I have backups, but why deleting all threads and restore all of them would resolved the issue ?
I mean if the app wont chop down your messages then the only option I see from here (I maybe wrong but the route I have taken) is to delete all messages then the 500 limit should stick as your messages repopulate as you use it.
