[APP] Kernel Manager released! - Nexus One Android Development

Kernel Manager released! Lite (free): http://tinyw.in/0i8, Pro (cost): Available in the Market ENJOY!
Hey everyone! I wanted to introduce a new app with a very simple but ambitious goal: create a place where all kernel developers can submit kernels easily and reach a much wider audience with ease.
The app currently does this:
1) Downloads a kernel from our fast and stable teamwin server
2) Unzips the relevant files (modules included)
3) Flashes the kernel
4) Installs the kernel modules
5) Clears cache/dalvik-cache
6) Reboots to apply the changes.
This entire process takes less than a minute, generally, (depending on download speeds of course ), and it is extremely simple for end-users to find a kernel, filter by kernel features (BFS, CFS, HAVS, SBC, etc) download/install kernels, and submit ratings for their favorite kernels.
If you use IRC, join us in freenode in #kernel-manager!
In order for this to be a success, we need support from kernel developers like YOU! Submitting a kernel to Kernel Manager is totally free and we even provide hosting for you! Right now I'm looking for kernel developers to submit kernels to start populating the app. Submitting kernels is easy!
THE LINK IS FOR KERNEL DEVELOPERS SPECIFICALLY! Go to http://kernels.teamw.in and register for an account! Once it's approved, you can easily enter new kernels, which immediately show up in the app. The app will be released in the market, and there will be a free+ad supported version, and a for-cost version that removes the ads.
Right now, we have a specific list of supported phones, but plan to add every nand-unlocked phone as soon as possible. (There are a lot of variables to account for on multiple devices to make sure the process works )
Please feel free to provide me with any feedback you have, or feature requests in order to make this a great tool for all of android to utilize!

Excellent concept for an app and even better that it's actually being developed. I look forward to trying this out from a end-users side.

Just a few comments:
1.) Device doesn't show passion target.
2.) If I have multiple kernel releases, how will it get organized?

Love the idea and hope the kernel devs do too!

just out of curiosity- shouldn't battery stats be wiped off aswel?? great concept for a project though.. best of luck guys

This will be optional. But yes, you can wipe battery stats as part of the flashing process.

1) I'm getting the new list of devices into the db soon(tm)!
2) We are working on a method to allow kernel devs to easily upload batches of multiples. It's a very complex problem that needs an elegant solution.

OH - it's in the list, but it's mistakenly called "one" instead of "passion." We will change the name, but feel free to upload to "one".

Excellent idea! Definitely will use.

Cool! Will definitely upload my kernels once I'm not as sick and can get back to development...

Sounds like a great idea. Please allow comments for specific kernels so one can find out how that particular kernel runs on different ROMs.

Are you using the GSM Nexus one? Codenamed passion?
I'm uploading a push to the market that I hope will fix this. Let me know if you still see no kernels.

[CM7][KANG][N1] But our Princess is in another castle! (CLOSED)

Due to personal reasons, I have closed this thread an decided to no longer post builds here.
I appreciate all the people who enjoyed testing new and excited mods to CM with me. I'm glad I earned a few friends out of doing this, you know who you are.
Redstar's N1 CM7 AVS kernels: http://redstar.euroskank.com/
You should probably go DOWNLOAD some wallpapers too.....
Looking for the morph? Try using an awesome CM7 theme engine apk like HONEYBREAD! But it's on my server if you really want it and look real hard...
One thing you should add to your first post (if you really want to keep the mindless blabber to a minimum) is that "advanced" users should leave the moderating to the moderators. If someone notices a post from a "newb", try to ignore it (or simply hit that report button - call it spam) and let the moderators clean the thread properly.
Woohoo!
Fits returns to cook Bacon and print money! Glad to see the return of gigglebread ...
FWIW, I agree that the moderating should he left to the moderators.... that's what they are there for, after all....
No matter how much someone may deserve to get flamed, its probably better if we stay on topic here... sometimes actions (like ignoring someone) speak much louder than anything that we can type out here....
Now, about that wonking problem....

quadrant advanced work for you ? oO
Yeah actually this is the only rom that it works 8/10 times. Other roms it would force close.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
If fits doesn't object, I'll engage in a little shameless self-promotion here....
While my kernels don't fix the wonking problem (yet), they do run especially well on this ROM and others like it....
So if anyone is looking for something different, try flashing any of the "-CM7" kernels in my mediafire folder or the latest one is usually in my signature....
I'm either running them with fits' gigglebread or on a build I compile myself from github, so they should all be working with CM7 based stuff....
I don't want to clutter up the thread too much, so if you have a kernel related question, please post it here only if it relates to this ROM, any general kernel questions, PM me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can...
Oh, and did I mention that my kernel increases the snapdragon's Bacon cooking efficiency by over 1000%?

Can you trmell me which one of the redstar kernels you are using please
With the 2.3.3 code merged I got a big bump in speed. On the 2.3.2 build I sat around the 1400's or 1500's in quadrant. With the 2.3.3 builds and IR's Kernel I get low 1800's.
I saw the screen shot and figured why not. Redstar's downloaded and installed Redstar's kernel and got my new high score with 1113mhz overclock.
Thanks Redstar! Now if I could only get up to maybe 1152mhz I can finally break 2k.
I just sorted his files by date and used 2.6.37.2_AVS-950mV-CM7_CFS-exp_20110303_0017 if anyone is interested.
Previous high score was at using CM 6.1 with Wildmonk's kernel and an 1190mhz overclock (or 1228mhz i forget) I got a 1904.
Profiles just got merged... you guys should give Martin a thank you email
(the icons I made for him aren't too shabby, either )

Note to users: This is simple enough. Using bash, I created a cli interface to control and manage your repo, add/remove a few things, and compile cm. I am only able to test this with my phone. So I am putting this out here for others to test with as well. It is not fully optimized, code is being actively worked on daily. There most certainly will be bugs, but I have been trying to find as many as I can by myself. Looking for some help from the community for feedback and support.

If you are wondering how you can use this software its easy. You can clone my repo for now. and run the CMCompiler script:
Code:
git clone https://[email protected]/lithid/CMC.git
cd CMC
./CMCompiler
Features:
- Check for repo installation on startup / or create a repo
- Add and remove devices quickly and easily.
- Remove all non english languages.
- Remove live wallpapers
- Remove cm wallpapers
- Check if adb is running or not.
- Update the repo
- Compile cyanogenmod
- Built in color themes. > http://goo.gl/cED8t
- Plugin support. (More information on this to come)
- Odex plugin built into the package. This will take your connected cyanogemod installed phone and odex the rom on the phone.
Known Issues:
- There is nothing under the menu option 99. This is a placeholder for information about me and the compiler. If you select it it will just exit you out of the script.
- There is no checking for installed software. You will need to install the needed packages on your own to compile. Check post 2 for needed software.
- I have only tested this with ubuntu 11.04.
- Removing the CM wallpapers from the build only works with gingerbread for now. Everything else is working as expected for me.
- I don't check for open ports on your network, so there might be issues connecting to the repos and syncing. I have not built error checking for that.
Features to come:
- Check for installed tools and tell you which are still needed
- Installer/Remover
- Updated information about CMC and plugin support.
- Pure AOSP via plugin
- Adb installer
- Better error checking support.
- Check for errors during compile and point to places to fix.
- I will also take requests!
Please any issue that should arise, I apologize in advanced. Please let me know with as much detail as possible to replicate the issue and I will resolve it.
You can follow me on google+ I tend to talk about it a bit on there as well.
I didn't mean to post this here... Its already in Chef Central > Android.
ouch one of the guys from CM didnt have too many nice things to say about this tool:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/113702637309752822154/posts/7zXKBP7K4wu
I have no idea on how to code/write scripts/compile...i would totally use this. I read what was on g+, i understand what they were saying at the beginning, but all was clarified by the end.
All i want to say is thank you for putting something out here that would essentially get peoples feet wet. Keep up the good work.

..... Meh .....
In my dealings with Linux developers, I found a lot of time they could be real elitist douches. If everything had to be done the "hard way" or no one "would learn", we'd still be using slide rules, logarithm tables, and starting fires by rubbing stones together. I for one love a tool like this and thank you for putting it together. These same guys will be using your tool or something similar upstream soon to do their own builds me thinks
Also, this got picked up by Engadget yesterday, so congratulations on that!

Probably got deleted for being in the wrong section, I think the sensation has this, so if we can get an AOSP kernel going from the source released even I can try to port it, though the great devs here would be able to do it with ease
, just give it a bit to bear fruit. :good:

passive aggressive comment ftw! I don't think you realize how much work is being put into the background to make the bigger projects EVERYONE wants into a working form.. most ports are easy if you choose the right device, if YOU are interested, I can send you a guide so you can make some offerings yourself, since I'm assuming you have a device to test on..
But just so you know, countless hours have been put into the big projects, even if you don't see progress.. and passive aggressive comments don't help anyone.
Also for you or anyone else, if you have something you want, and you can find some others who want it too - and it is a unique project that ACTUALLY offers something different, post it - sorta like this request thread! Otherwise the roms we have cover all the bases until we get cm9/10/aokp/sense4 working, which the new kernel source will really help with..

If you want I can show you how to make little flash ables that modify whatever your original rom release is. If the origin release didn't work properly, a small flashable flashed after that can make the changes you need.. then all you need is a quicker way to contact testers. But yea, you don't need to upload the whole thing every time..

Hey hey. There wasn't any need for that come on man. You know what gray is trying to say. There are 4 different threads to cm9 builds right now that are very similar. If I wanted to I could upload a cm9 ROM with a couple build.prop tweaks, beats dsp, and google now and make a new thread but theres no point. I agree that it would be the coolest if we could have one thread for cm9 builds with a tweaks section where all you guys can have flashable tweaks. It would clean up the Development section, comments would be in the same place, etc. Gray didn't mean anything mean by his post, just like I don't mean anything mean with mine. This is for the community man

I understand what your saying but I'm actually going to fully theme and do more then build prop edits. If I just had a few tweaks I would of just uploaded them instead of wasting my time compiling the source. Plus gray is saying not to do something he already has done... all he did was just post the source build from chad, and like you said anyone can do, it only requires a repo from Chad's github.
Anyways I'm done talking about it. I made this thread to share my works. Download the rom or don't and move on

Good thanks looking forward to the theme!

Just a question, what's the advantages of theming cm9 when it has a theme manager which can just install themes on the fly?

Cool with me.
Just seems unnecessary to have 3 builds.
I am looking forward to seeing your themes and stuff.

Cherry pick list
* CyanogenMod's latest merges: http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/q/status:merged+branch:cm-12.1,n,z
* CyanogenMod's Github: http://github.com/cyanogenmod
This is a kang of CM12 with cherry picks from CyanogenMod’s Gerrit Instance, compiled by a group of volunteers that enjoy learning about building CyanogenMod & Android in general. All credit goes to cyanogen, #teamdouche and the coders who submit to Gerrit. Thank you to @RyanMacG for providing Euroskank hosting.
These builds are bleeding-edge, most comparable to a nightly build, and are not meant for inexperienced users. Things will be broken and crash from time to time, you need to accept that this isn't stable by any means before flashing. Nandroid as often as possible.
How to post useful, informative bug reports:
Sometimes dev's actually check out our threads, or sometimes we have a good relationship with a dev or two. These bleeding-edge builds will have issues, and having good information on what's broken is great feedback before a feature is merged. Here are some good bug reporting tips:
* No bug reports while using custom kernels or add-ons:
CyangenMod's own bug reporting tool does not accept bug reports from people using non-stock kernels for a reason, so why should we? CM can merge changes to their kernel causing custom kernels to break things until they catch up. Therefore, please do not post any bug reports while using a custom kernel or add-on such as Xposed Framework. Post your issues with custom kernels in their own respective threads as they are the ones who need to play catch up. Any bug report posted in this thread should be while running CM's stock framework and kernel, as this prevents unnecessary clutter.
* Gapps are not a CM issue:
CyanogenMod is built to run without the assistance of Google's proprietary apps (gapps). Having issues with your Google account and syncing is a gapps issue, not a CM issue. Please do not post about any gapps related issues, just wipe data and try a different gapps package.
* Posting about the same bug every build:
Beating a dead horse with "bug X still isn't fixed" posts just adds unnecessary clutter and provides no help into actually fixing the issue. Some bugs take days to squash, some take weeks. Please don't report the same bug every time a build is uploaded.
* Logs:
Provide logcats when applicable. Use a service like Pastebin and put a link to the log in the post. Please do not post logs directly to the forum.
If these requests are too demanding, there's good news! CyanogenMod is open source, so please feel free to download the source code, compile your own builds volunteering your time and resources, then start a thread and run it however you see fit. All we simply ask is that people post good, reliable information that can be passed on to a developer that can actually do something with it, making CM a better product for everyone involved.

Smooth! Man I miss Skank from my GNex days!
This is magically delicious!
Any gapps zip you recommend or just use the ones in this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2384470
Gonna flash this when I get home, thanks.

Bugs to report:
1) Focal FC's with every pic taken and the image is completely blank and black in the Gallery.
2) There's two DeskClock apks causing the error message when you first boot. I deleted the smaller one out of system\app to fix it.
Is there a way to enable notifications to always expand?

Does this have the IR Remote functionallity added like invisiblek's unnoficial nightlys?
Is this just cm, or are there other roms code merged into the build? Is it different than the other cm unofficial nightlies?
