[Q] cani put adrynalyne rom on top of SC 2.9.2? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Odin'd the radio from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029436
*TY GPS rocks now
I was wondering if I could install the rom from that same thread over the top of SC 2.9.2?
Also is there a kernal that supports SetCPU specifically a LV version.
I'm coming from the D1 where things were much different, so please ignore my ignorance

Follow the instructions in that thread for installing the ROM. They are very clear and specific

I read them, lol was hoping to avoid them. As some roms can be applied over the top of one another. Thank you though

You can always try it ... just make a nandroid backup first, and let us know what happens. I doubt it would brick your phone, but you could be in force-close city.

Well those procedures were developed after hours of testing before Adrynalyne posted the ROM and radio. So if you want to discount all the hard work of the testers, go ahead and just flash the ROM.

I did it and it worked great. not saying that you should do it too, but I got lucky.
I also reflashed the radio after that.

[Q] Best Rom choice for the Eris

Hey mates, was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a good Rom to start with for this? I just picked up a used Eris and went through the One-Click Root. Running Plainjaine Sense, but would like to try out some others. Anyone have any good suggestions?

Welcome to XDA, Axacizir.
Well, I've heard great things about several ROMs (I switched from my Eris to the DX last year, but I've been staying in touch with things both here and over at AF).
xtrSENSE5.0.1, xtrROM, GSB 3.8, and Condemned CM7 are all very highly thought of.
That being said, there are also a ton of other ROMs, too, that I'm sure are excellent that were built by some very creative and dedicated devs. All of these fine ROMs can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=554
Be sure to read through the various ROM threads for all the installation instructions, caveats, and gotchas. If you run into an issue, read through the various pages of post that folks have added since they may very well have already encountered the same issue as you.
Good luck and happy ROMing .

Thanks Mate! Glad to be here on XDA! Thank you so much for the suggestions, being new to rooting and this whole Android thing, it's a scary endeavor to root my device and find out the Rom caused a brick! I'm assuming that most Rom's here are "safe" to flash, as long as you have the proper recovery to flash with?
Again, thanks! It's a pleasure being here!

Yes, they are safe as long as you follow all the little details / instructions in regard to getting the ROM installed--there are often difference in terms of what extras might need to be flashed (for example, the Google apps are included in some ROMs, but not in others).
Just read through the ROM dev's thread carefully...and it wouldn't hurt to read through a few of the first and last pages of each thread, too, to get a flavor of issues that new flashers might be experiencing--that'll likely answe a few questions that you might have before you run into them.
If, by proper recovery, you mean Amon_RA's custom recovery, then yes (we tend to steer new folks away from ClockworkMod recovery for the Eris at this point since there are some unexplained issues a few folks have had with internal memory blocks being mysteriously marked as bad with CWM--which is most likely a procedural issue vs. an inherent problem with CWM).
Also, if your trackball is misbehaving in custom recovery, I've built a version of Amon_RA's recovery that uses other keys for navigation. Lemme know if you need that and I'll point you in the right direction re. that (or you can find it by an XDA or Google search of "trackball-not-required").
Cheers!
I've been a happy modder for the past year in a half, just make sure you backup before you do anything crazy.
I know this may sound stupid but backup what? Contact's are automatically synced and apps can just be redownloaded. What am I missing that's not stored on an SD card which wont be affected anyways.

Thank you very much! Just got it running, so far no issues or force closes. I have been waiting on a 1.1 bl honeycomb. Thank you!
Wow! Great news, definitely gonna give this a try, had lots of issues the last time I used a 1.2 based bootloader,so I'm really glad to see this!
Thanks!

I'm actually surprised that it took this long.
We used the 1.2 bl initially because we had to as we ported directly from the Adam devs. But once there were Clem kernel ports, it wasn't technically a requirement anymore. I just never changed my port as my opinions on 1.2 are already well-stated and sticking with it made sense to me, at least. But that doesn't mean that a 1.1 based HC ROM was impossible.
However, if NI releases a HC port and it's using a .36 kernel to make everything work, this 1.1 ROM might have issues with porting that. But this is all speculation, at this point - I don't know if a NI port will even work on a GTAB yet, regardless of the bootloader used.
does this has the same bl 1.2 version issues or just the usb to pc?!
bl 1.2 version has these issues:
(copied from other forum)
- Camera isn't working (pulled out the app for now)
- Browser is working, but OpenGL is disabled for it to work. That means no Flash on the stock browser.
- (High-def) video playback does not work, yet.
any testers can confirm this? i'm a bit feeling lazy to try it today
confirmed but very smooth i love it its not reading my sdcard though how can i get it to read sd card?

This is great news!
Is it accelerated?
Does it run Flash 10.3?

One other thing, on a good note -- I'm definitely happy to see more modders our there for the GTablet. Options are always a good thing and I plan to pull back a bit, starting new month. So the more HC ports we have, the better!
Quick question... If I'm running Vegan 5.1.1, what do I need to do to install this ROM? Full wipe? Just flash it from CWM? Something else entirely?
Sorry, I'm still a bit of a noob at all of this, but I promise I'm trying to learn!
roebeet said:
I was really hesitant to post anything, as I really don't want you taking this the wrong way. I apologize if it came off as anything else but a concern for post-support, that was not my intent (and, in retrospect, a PM would have been better. My bad).
The branding, for me, is mostly about post-support. Remember, I'm a sysadmin by trade so when I get PM's on issues, I usually ask the usual questions like what mod, what version, how did you install it, etc. That's actually why I started branding "TNT Lite" as such back in November, as it was easier for me to know if a user was actually using my ROM or not. That's really my only concern, here. When two different mods are branded the same, it will get confusing. Especially if they are on two different development branches. It is fun, I agree - that's why I do this. But for users who soft-brick, it's sometimes a major panic attack and a lot of them are hesitant to use nvflash.

Robeet, I think you were spot on, the OP is not reading it correctly. I can just see the flood of posts/PM's asking you questions and users cross posting between 1.1/1.2 because of this and the difficulty of tracking all this. it's difficult enough keeping up with all these great roms and boot loader types, I could not imagine what it is like on your guys side.
OP he is not dissing you, he is just asking that you rename it so you can support issues and he does not have to keep getting cross questions, it's pretty much non-issue in my eyes.
OP, thanks for supporting the Gtab and the 1.1. people like all you devs that make android so much fun and android FTW over IOS.

Yes, full wipe and flash it. do a backup of course just incase you want to go back. back up your apps as well so you can restore them on the other side of HC.

Maybe this should be called something like "Bottle of Smoke MOD" since technically it is a modified version of the original.

[Q] Two questions as I try to organize myself before rooting

So I've done a few roots before but each time I always do the same research, going through all of the guides and making sure I'm fully aware of everything that could factor in before proceeding (one bad experience'll do that to ya). I'm pretty sure I have everything together and just have three questions before I begin:
1) I have an AT&T Galaxy SII but am not sure whether or not I have the UCKK6 over the air update. How would I go about checking this?
2) I was mostly interested in Villainrom as a custom rom, however, I noticed that there is only a release in the international version of the Galaxy S II (at least as far as I can find). Do the differing features between the two phones mean that I am unable to install this? If so I was going to go with CM7 (I've been a CM fan for a while now and with ICS coming it was a close decision between the two), however, I noticed on their official site the phone pictured with the Galaxy SII section is the International version. This kinda ties back in with my first question, being I don't want to attempt to flash something that has a chance of not working
3) I planned on using superclick to root, and then I have mobile odin pro to flash the rom. As far as I know these are the only two programs/files I need for the process besides the Rom, is that correct?
Thank you for your time!

1) Settings > About Phone > Android Version (2.3.6 = KK6, 2.3.4 = KH7)
2) Hellraiser (look in the development forums); you may have a problem with the links. Someone posted theirs, but I can't find it. Hopefully someone can post theirs here.
3) I don't know. I think it'd have to be a tar file. Typically, you want to get a CWM kernel and install from there (see stickies or development; somewhere around here there's a guide). Creepy Crawly's sticky in general is probably what you want. I only use mobile odin to flash modems and kernels; hadn't used it to flash an entire rom. The only other use I've seen others report is flashing firmwares.

1. Settings > about phone then scroll to the bottom.
2. Use hellraiser to run i9100 roms minus any ics roms. Look in developmentsection.
3. Look in sticky section for root instructions. After that mobile Odin a custom kernel then find the ROM you want flash in cwm then flash hellraiser package

There's no reason for you to be an asshole... I've flashed phones before. Because I wasn't sure whether this specific update info could be found in that section or not is the reason I asked. Sure I could've Googled it just as easily but I had a more important question to ask, namely the one referring to the use of international roms. I've been modifying devices for about six years now, from flashing/upgrading/downgrading PSPs, iPhones, rooting phones and various devices in between. Your advice I'm sure applies to some people but that doesn't mean you give it sounding like an elitist prick. Get over yourself, you're not some master flasher and you have no idea my specific experience. I'm waiting for an all in one because its easier and I don't necessarily NEED a rooted phone right now, not because I'm so technologically inept I couldn't figure it out.
If you couldn't figure out something as basic as finding which ROM version your phone is running, then you certainly are likely to find yourself among those who come in here looking for help after a flash goes bad. The forums are littered with them. I wasn't trying to sound like a prick (although I often do) with that reply, I was just encouraging you to take my earlier advice on reading up more before attempting a flash. Everything you asked about could be answered by just doing a little research instead of starting a new thread.

I've done plenty of generic reading on it, plenty of nooby guides, plenty of flashes. I wasn't certain whether or not that update was something associated with the overall "system firmware" or whatever the terminology is. There's a certain way of suggesting things to do, and you as a "help giver" have a responsibility to make sure you're a) giving accurate advice in regards to someone's scenario and b) giving it in a way that doesn't make you out to be a jerk

I really would stick to just rooted and debloated stock for now. If you reallly want a custom rom I think Scott's Clean rom's run well or Nil's business sense rom's just make sure you are downloading the Gingerbread versions. Make sure you read the threads to see about tethering since that is something i have never done so never paid attention to what works or doesn't with tethering.
P.S. unlocking is extremely easy, just follow the directions on the HTCdev site precisely and you will not have an issue. Also I would definately suggest sticking with Amon Ra for your recovery seems to have the least trouble right now. Clockwork official is really new to the rezound and I still seem to read threads that people have trouble with backups or restoring backups and sometimes even installing roms using it.
Stick to GB for now.
Read the threads and find out which one suites you best. Everyone has different tastes. Do your homework and you won't have problems.
To answer the question about tethering...the only infrastructure tethering to be found is on an ICS ROM. Unfortunately that's not "noob" friendly.
Yes- definitely read the entire threads of any ROMs you are considering so you will know what to expect as far as bugs and known issues.
Stick with Amon Ra recovery. There's an update coming with a fix if it's not already posted.
GB ROMs have ad-hoc tethering. ICS have infrastructure. But ICS ROMs are not fly functional so again- read entire threads to know what you're getting into.
I really like Ineffabilis GB. I would probably just use it with stock kernel though. I'm not seeing a benefit to using dsb although maybe I just need to play with CPU settings more.
This is my first smartphone and something that's really helped me is keeping a text file with notes on how to do everything so I don't have to search for info again when I need it. Also gathers lots of info from various threads in one place and makes it easier to learn everything. Seems it's quite different on this phone since it is still s-on.

Yeah, and a nervous excitement. I was fortunate that WasabiWa83 offered to stand by in chat in case anything went wrong. And a week or so later when I was reflashing a ROM and the phone gave me an error message in the middle of flashing saying it couldn't read my ext sd card I got stuck on the HTC splash screen and I didn't even panic, just went through the steps I had read about and all was good again.
So as long as you read and learn, once you've gone through everything you get comfortable since you know there's a way out of any trouble you may encounter.
Unlocking is simple and easy. Don't worry about bricking the phone man. I owned an Incredible before my Rezound and installed ROMs, radios, kernels, splash screens, you name it and never had a problem. Once you get the hang of flashing stuff and go through the initial process of botching something up and figuring out how to fix it, it becomes second nature and quite fun. Welcome to the unlocked world!
P.s. Nil's business gingersense and scott's roms are great for beginners. I suggest Nil's if you want a little bit of theming and scott's if you want more basic functionality. Stick with gingerbread for now, although the ICS roms that are out there are good enough to be daily drivers and I did run them for over a month, they do have their little kinks still.
Quit discouraging ICS roms. I haven't been on GB since 2 days after the first leak and aside from bluetooth and the occasional screen flicker, they work fine.
That said, sticking to GB for awhile might be a good idea. There are plenty of people always online here ready to help if you post in the general section. Just make sure to look at stickies and such for help. A good rooting guide written my myself is linked in my signature. It is the most simple of the guides an I have updated it for the newest firmware version.
For me not being unlocked and rooted >>I would say the reason I dont jump right away is not I'm scared or nervous..its the time and effort from going to a fully working phone to a phone that might be buggy to just get just a few perks. Plus not to mention the time it takes to try each ROM out,,gheez that the hard part!!
I personally would do it to get rid of the bloat ware that could be using my battery, What the OP is doing it for? I think the same reason as me. Unless he likes looking forward to the pain like the all of you.

No pain, no gain. To each his/her own.

i just got my Rezound on Wednesday... took all about 30 min before i had my Rom Urges, and had to unlock and flash... i haven't stopped trying roms since... i need help with my addiction.. lol
I agree about ICS roms... they are awesome i like them over GB
If you want speed and battery with the stock look mainly, give cleanrom a shot! All the other GBs are themed beautifully and have have a lot of work put into them. I stayed away from ICS because I am OCD on bugs and theme issues such as 4g arrows but it ran very smoothly.

I've told others in various threads but i'll say it here cause it can't be stressed enough. *learn about flashing kernels aka boot.img*.. I would dare to say 70% of the threads in the Dev forum are cluttered with people who never learned about flashing rom kernels with adb or tools like cleanflash that make it easier. The super-noob guide in the dev section is your best friend.
Most folks are used to the kernel being totally packaged in with the rom zip and once you flash the rom zip you're good to go. That is not the case with this phone. Learn about it and save yourself many headaches.
Well I unlocked my phone and I think it's rooted..so I should stick to GB roms? Is ineffabilis good?

Ineffabilis is a GREAT GB Rom but to be honest they're all really good.
I think its good to start off with GB because you may run into usability issues with ICS that may cause issues for you. Flashing a GB will help you get your feet wet!

[Q] Little verification before flashing first rom

Hello, I was just wanting to get a few things verified before I flashed my first rom. I have been following these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006946
Where it says to root, then unlock the bootloader. First 2 are checked. so no problem there
3rd step it talks about using CWM but when i was running the app that the instructions suggested, the app suggested to install TWRP so that's what I did. So then i rebooted into twrp and said "backup" and checked everything so that it backs up all my data. Is that what is considered a nandroid backup? and so from there I'm safe.
Also I had titanium and said to backup up everything and anything from there as well. So both of those will be uploaded to my box account along with remaining in my PC.
Also for good measure, I plugged in my phone, opened explorer and just copied everything within the internal storage and sd card so that I have those too. Not sure if they will be useable at all but figured why not.
So would I have put myself in a good position such that if I mess up later on, I can revert back to the way I am right now?
TWRP just doesn't call it a nandroid back up like CWM when it's finished backing up so as long as TWRP finished successfully you're fine. The only current ROM I knlw of right now that doesn't flash with TWRP is the Korean JB port and that is stated in bold red letters in the OP so you can flash away in my opinion. Looks like you have it all covered.
As a side note I have had three different LG devices and honestly find them near impossible to permanently brick. LGNPST became one of my best friends a long time ago and his brother QPST as well, lol.

Ahh okay thanks. I didn't realize that nandroid was just CWM terminology. Good to know I was doing everything right. And I wasn't looking for Korean JB.
Oh good to know. I will have to mess with LGNPST just to make sure I can do everything properly incase I ever need to actually do it. Good to hear it's pretty reliable and thanks again.

Good to see your trying to cover all your bases. Don't over complicate things for yourself, though. As long as your simply flashing roms built for your device and following directions you'll be ok. You're bound to run into a few hiccups if you get the bug, like most of us have, and start flashing everything you can. But no worries, there's always a way to fix.
Also, since your brand new to this stuff, read up on the threads and give them a few days before flashing Anything. Let some of the more experienced guys test them out and leave feedback.
Have fun!
Edit: one last thing, TiBu is more hassle free if you only use it for app + data, as opposed to, system data.

Also, if you are using the recovery installed by FreeGee, I'd update to a more current one found in the development thread. The first couple were a little glitchy.
Edit: great advice from Tango above. They usually recommend to never restore system data. It will render your phone's ROM FUBAR more often than not.

Okay thanks. Honestly, I'm not too concerned about my apps and data. I was really just doing everything so that I can get a working phone again quickly if I end up breaking something. I don't expect to be changing too often, I'm waiting for slick rom v4 to come out, then a few days after I'll be flashing my phone. I was just wanting to get everything ready now incase I run into anything unexpected I dont' rush it due to wanting to try the rom.

Uh...I used FreeGee from the app store, so whatever that one installs. Good to know it is out of date. I'll go check out the new version and try to get that one installed.

Bleh I need to wait 5 minutes between posts and edits.
Well it looks like my TWRP is v2.3.2.3 which seems to be the neweest version (although really old 11/28/12)
Also I suppose I should run TiBu with app+data only if using system data causes such big problems. Thanks for the warning guys.
Just remember one of the most important things to do is read, read and read again when you first start out. There's also plenty of help here as long as you are respectful and ask in a detailed intelligent manner.
This is one of the best communities on XDA imo. Great people and devs.

It seems most of the usual jerks you'd find don't have the patience to wait for the JB source to come along, so don't use this phone. Lets hope that they don't start flocking here now that we've got it.

Reading. Yes. I enjoy learning and understanding (what I actually can) about what is going on. I got this phone the week it came out and have been waiting and watching while the community develops. It feels okay now to be jumping on board. I had to learn quite a bit coming from iOS. I jailbroke it and used mods but I'm just a user not a developer. So really wanted to learn all the safety precautions for android.

I was worried about posting my question and people just flaming me. But I definitely appreciate the help that has been offered. Makes me feel a lot more comfortable getting this done, that if something does go wrong I have somewhere I can turn to.
