[Q] CM7 USB Mass Storage problem Cricket Huawei M860 w/ CM7-Ascend-04052011 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchased my Ascend in February and have been trying every rom I can get my hands on. This is my first droid/smartphone so I can't help but mess with it. Now, I first installed Icarus 1.1 succesfully and loved it but I guess Isaacj has since stopped devolpment on this? Not sure but either way I loved his work so much I installed CM7_04052011 with the proper gapps.
Now my question. When I wiped the phone clean and installed CWM 3.0.2.4 and CM7, it now recognizes the phone as a CD drive and forces the directory as a read only. Is there any one else with this problem?
Yes, I enabled USB mass storage according to the notification via the phone but this happens no matter if the mass storage is turned off or on. I tried updating drivers and it recognizes the driver cdrom.sys. I also read somewhere to download the USB files manually and install them, which I have downloaded but may need further help with these. I also tried to disable the automatic install of drivers so I could try to install them myself and my Windows 7 laptop will not recognize this new CM7 phone as anything but a CD drive.
This isn't such a huge problem as I have SD readers, but I didn't have this problem with any previous version of ROM I had placed on my phone so it is a little frustrating to jump through loops. Please if anyone could help that would be great and Isaacj you are the man and I love your work more and more everyday thank you for everything you have done and continue to do
UPDATE: I installed the new CM7_04162011 and it recognizes the SD card as its proper name now but still as a CD-ROM and still read-only 4/17/2011

i have had the same exact problem with my ascend and theres no way to flash back to stock rom after doing the whole cwm thing. hopefully theres a fix
---------- Post added at 09:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:03 AM ----------
it doesnt read the phone anymore or recognize it fully to browse the files within

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A

this is the only thread that i can find that completely states just what is wrong. if anyone knows where to find the answer to this please post a link. there is nothing in the q and a section about this.

HELP! bat files won't work!

I've flashed pre-update SBF and am only able to aqquire root while using SuperOneClick. Before that, when I try using files such as Adeo or GingerBlur I keep getting an error that says either device cannot be found or unable to chmod psneuter such as when i'm trying to use the retain root files. Am I missing something? I've checked environment variables to ensure that they're working, that usb debug is on, and thaty connections are good. What stumps me the most is that my first attempt at installing Gingerblur and Webtop MOD worked with no issues. I only restored back to SBF because i wanted the update with root but right after flashing to SBF, I tried bat files and i get an error message. I've yet to see any post on here that has an answer to this issue please help because if I can't get this to work there'll be no reason for me to keep the Atrix. Thanks to everyone in advance!
I've had SO many problems hacking my atrix.. and have managed to fix them all through this forum so I completly understand your frustration. The main thing I did that fixed everything, was to delete all previously downloaded mod files, then re download them all and place them at the root of your C drive. I'm assuming your using Windows.. None of the install.bat files worked for me until I moved them there..
Hello, friend. Thanks for the quick response. I tried what you recommended but am having the same issue. It doesn't make sense right now. I haven't added anything new to my PC nor have I installed any new programs. All i did was flash SBF to attempt to utilize retain root and then update to new version however my device cannot be detected. If anyone can help out it would be much appreciated.
Try putting the USB connection in mass storage mode. If your computer wants to find drivers, let it. Then give the script a whirl.

[Q] Help! My tablet is messed (Edited some build.prop files)

Hello there,
I just registered on this forum to hopefully resolve my problem with the Kobo Arc tablet. I apologize if any similar issue regarding this was posted. So basically, my Uncle bought me a Kobo Arc tablet about 2 months ago and I know quite alot of things about it. Due to my stupidity I couldn't play a game I really wanted to and so I edited my build.prop to make my tablet compatible with the game. In build.prop I changed the product model to: "GT-I9100", product brand to: "Samsung" and product manufacture to: "unknown". After this I restarted my device. As I did, the kobo arc logo appeared and then a never ending start-up boot. I restarted my device many times but still couldn't get my device to fully on. I entered recovery mode by holding the up volume and power button together and tried to reset to factory, but my Kobo Arc just still won't go pass the never ending start-up screen. I even tried to connect it to my computer but it doesn't recognize it. I'm assuming it's bricked, is there any possible fix for this? if so I need to know asap.
Someone please help me, it would be so kind, and I'll appreciate it soo much.
Thanks in advance
SmootZ
Please, I'm in urgent need of help. I really want to go on my tablet again..
Any help to get my kobo arc to its original state and working properly again, I would be sooo grateful.
Do you have a nandroid backup? If so, restore it.
Otherwise, do you still have access to your SD card (probably using an adapter and connecting it to your PC)? Try using AROMA FM to edit build.prop to the original values.
If not, I'd suggest installing ADB (GIYF) and using that to edit build.prop.
For the last two solutions, you'll need to use the shell, and use a text editor such as nano, pico or vi (depending on what's available). BTW, how did you edit build.prop?
You can also flash back stock/any ROM. Restoring to factory settings doesn't restore build.prop AFAIK.
EDIT: Just noticed your PC doesn't recognize your phone. That rules out solution #3. Are you sure the required drivers installed on your PC?
Yes, I'm sure. But when I plug my tablet into my PC through my usb cable it makes a noise connoting its connected but it won't appear.
Could you possibly give me instructions on how to do a nandroid back-up or something that will get my device back with the following condition:
-My device not able to be recognized on my computer
EDIT: When I connect my device to my computer it charges, but it won't appear on my computer or anything, if this helps.
It's too late to make a nandroid backup now. Try using AROMA FM.

Click the link I posted.
Read the first few posts in full.
Ask about the specific part you don't understand.
I cannot even access my device apart from putting it in recovery mode since my device gets stuck at the start-up and loops, In addition I don't know how to access my sd card since my computer doesn't recognize my device as I said. Will this be a problem?and can I still do it?How do I access my sd card?
Sorry if this question seems stupid
Is your device still not detected in recovery mode?
To access your SD card directly from your PC you'll need a special reader/adapter.
Nope, it doesn't recognize it even in recovery mode. What is this "special" reader/adapter and where can I get it? Could you provide me a link or something?
Well, I'm out of ideas. Just Google "SD card adapter".
Actually my device does not offer any external memory card slot. Meaning There is no support for MicroSD or SD cards on my Kobo Arc.
What shall I do now?
Hey Germain or anyone else,
Is there any other possible way I can unbrick my tablet from this? Any solution would be grateful.

I'm out of ideas you could try yourself. I'd try triple checking the drivers on your PC and see if you can get ADB to work.
Is sending your tablet to repair an option?
EDIT: Can't you update to the latest update using fastboot?
Hey.
First of all, messing with build.prop without backup wasn't the brightest idea in your life, but crap happens, like Forrest Gump used to say.
What is the exact model of your tablet? Kobo Arc? Kobo Arc 10 HD? Maybe Kobo released an update and you can update it directly by fastboot.
If not try to use Linux as it handles ADB much better than Windows, go to system and edit you build.prop back and wipe cache and dalvik cache. You need to have a working ADB to even think about reversing your changes.
Good luck.
Well thanks for the help.
Can I try taking this adb method without my device giving permissions for USB debugging? Since I haven't enabled this in my developer options as far as I know, in addition I cannot really check since my device is bricked but I'm 100% sure it's NOT enabled. Will this stop me from carrying an ADB method?

[Q] Lenovo K910 sdcard not found, phone basically dead :(

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to fix my mistake since several days but no luck.
Few days ago I rooted and updated my phone to version VIBEUI_V1.5_1423_10_ST_K910 with Gapps. Everything went fine but then while I was cleaning up the phone from useless apps I made a huge mistake by unistalling a file or apk called Idea….something(can’t remember the entire name)! I thought it was a theme file as the name was very similar to another real one. After that a neverending popup started to appear and I decide to restart the phone. Never got it back! It remains stuck on Lenovo log. I’m able to get into stock recovery where on every test or sd card format it says sdcard not found. Same when I connect it on the pc, the autorun popup only, no storage.
Seems like the sdcard is not recognized anymore so I can’t even launch an sd update.
I’m pretty new on Android systems so I’m about to give up, I don’t really know what to do anymore.
I’m beg you for some help. Any advice will be more than welcome.
Thanks

Hi guys, is there any way to get access into the phone root by using some tool?
I can't see the sdcard and I can't boot the phone with fastboot.
Please help.
Unfortunately I didn't get many answers but fortunately I solved the problem so I believe it would be nice to share with whom may need it:
here you have the steps I followed:
- buy a OTG cable
- Buy a USB stick 2-4GB
- Format USB stick with FAT (!)
- Put sdfuse directory on it and a K910 .qsb image inside the directory
- Plug stick via OTG in the phone
- start phone with Vol- & Power
- Choose point 4 - SD Update from the Lenovo recovery Menu
Phone will show this picture then:
Attachment 2826922
- Hit "start"
- Wait
- Be Happy
- Buy me a cigar (Partagas Series D No.4 preferred)
That's it!
Cheers

Softbrick: Can't format system partition

Hi all,
to make it plain and short: I messed up.
I have a GT-S5830i which I unrooted according to the Sticky Note in the forum, installed CWM Recovery and then 'installed from ZIP' a CM9_cooperve_Beta_05.zip that I found in one of the posts in the forum. The installation went on without error message but since then the phone does not make it beyond the initial screen "Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i". I can start recovery mode and Download mode. In reovery mode I can format cache, data, sdcard, sd-ext but *not* system. Error Message: "E: format_volume: make_ext4fs failed on /dev/block/st19"
I have tried already several methods according to the forum, e.g.
1) 'install from ZIP' older Cyanogenmod
2) the tool ext4_formatter.zip
3) re-flash with ODIN with several tar-ROMs, all failed. Odin finds the phone (since I start Odin as Admin now), but after I hit 'start' it tries to establish a connection to the phone and ends after a while with 'Failed'
I'm basically lost now, don't know what else to do. Any advise is appreciated (it's my mom's phone, she is getting impatient )
Thx, cheers!
Xala
Hi @xalarsk , So you can't format your /system partition , which is required for installation of your rom ,, you need to try this method from here mate . Follow my instruction from the line @post#4 :"1. Download one of the newest ,,," to the end of the post and please do not use CM9 beta , because it is unstable and will wreak havoc with your system eventually . ( either cm7 or cm11 is the place you should go for CyanogenMod experience for cooperVe device ).
If you fail at any level please give us your logcat ( error massage ) for better support for your Odin process you mentioned .
Cygwin not working
Hi @ehsanotaku,
thank you for your quick reply, it's appreciated!
Unfortunately I couldn't get cygwin to install all necessary packets. The ZIP-test always failed. I have a Linux system running (Linux Mint 17) though, and hope that might help. In the meantime I tried to download the already split packages as described in another of your forum posts, but the website provides only exe-files instead of zip-files. Is there another location to download them?
#UPDATE: It seems there is a SplitFUS2 version for linux somewhere but couldn't find links to download. Anybody can help? I'll also PM Doky73
Cheers, Holger

Cygwin was meant for windows platform to get the native Linux environment/command line you already got there . You can create a virtual instance of the windows 7 inside virtualbox or any kind of apps you are preferring such as Vmware/Parallel etc etc to get the job done .
Splitfus2 only supports windows platform as far as i know mate,,, either vitalization as i said or the pre-made zip package ( which is clearly not .exe file ,, push the download now and get yourself a descent downland manager,, tested and zip packaged delivered ) from here is the feasible approach for your problem .
Ok, had all the files ready, just the Boot loader <DefaultCalDataWithBoot_S5830iXXLB1_REV00.tar.rar seems to be broken. I downloaded the link provided in your post #8 several times with several download managers, also uses 7-zip and several online unrar services..result always the same: The archive is broken. Is that possible? Would you mind to check yourself?

Another fellow had similar issue with my attachment that was corrected here @ post#27
Unbricked, SD card not recognized
Update: Phone has been unbricked, many thanks for that!
Currently I have still issues with the external SD card, which also holds the ZIP files. Phone won't recognize it, not even format it properly. Still working on that.

Mostly this happened because of the bug inside CM9 beta you used . Study this topic mate i troubleshooted while ago for a sample of the symptoms external SD card would show after unstable ICS usage .
Also as an alternative to the method i instructed there , you can format/Re-partition your SD card by putting it inside card reader and using app such as free MiniTool Partition Wizard "Gparted" tool for Linux users Or "iPartiton" for Mac users etc etc ,, to get the job done . You can find several tutorials inside XDA for this matter mate.
Phone works with CM7.2, can I upgrade to CM9?
Hi again,
first of all, props to @ehsanotaku, I will hit the 'Thanks' buttons.
Now, this is a bit beyond the topic, but I'd like to ask anyway for recommendations of CM9 roms. The one I picked from a post inside this forum bricked my phone and made me start this thread, I don't want to go down this road again. So I'd be glad for any recommendation of a stable ROM that will put my phone beyond Android 4.0.
Cheers again,
Xala
So i have a similar issue. I used to have CM11 installed, but i figured thats too slow for me. Then i went back to stock rom (XXMJ2) which works fine. But now i have a problem.
Everytime i want to flash a stock based or cm7 based rom on my phone, it gets messed up. Today i wanted to flash this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-ace/s5830i-develop/cm-7-2-kitkat-smart-r2-t3075267
i naturally downloaded clockwork mod recovery (5.0.2.6) and tried to flash it. Flashing was done pretty quickly (10 seconds or so) and when i rebooted, i obviously got stuck at sammy logo. Now booting back to the recovery (first e3 then cwm) i got bunch of error about partritions not being able to be mounted (happens the same if i want to manually mout them or format them)...
So, what to do ?
I have a suspicion, that flashing CM11 and the latest cwm recovery for it somehow messed up partritions.

ok not going to excruciating details of symptoms and explaining all of your errors for now just please read my advice @ post2 of this topic and follow the procedures accordingly and finished it with formatter tools and cm7 instructions you will find there ., after that you can install Kitkat Smart R2 like you are coming from another CM7 build instruction . btw some problem regarding super user privileges and play store 492-498 infamous bug was reported for this fairly new development .

Cannot access sd card to install new android version

Hello and thanks for reading / helping if you can.
In brief, I have a Samsung Tab 2 GT-P3110 tablet which was running android 4.2.2. It's main use was as a controller for my sonos sound system which no longer supports my device. I thought I'd try and update it rather than simply chuck it into landfill for no good reason other than it was old like me! I know almost nothing about what I am doing, sorry!
So far I have I think 'rooted' the device using something called odin, and installed the clockwork recovery mod. I have also installed the Samsung drivers onto my PC and I have on my pc a zipped file which I believe will install a newer version of android (perhaps some guidance might be required for best file to go for). Unfortunately I am unable to see my tablet's sd card (or anything to do with the tablet) when connected to my pc via USB in order to copy it. Moreover I have copied the same file to a micro sd card but when I put this directly into the tablet and try and boot off the external card I get an access error and the card is not read.
I am out of ideas now and wonder if one of you clever people might be able to help me? I think I read somewhere about having to switch on USB debugging and USB sharing or the like BEFORE rooting. The instructions I used only mentioned the former and so that's all I did. Maybe I've locked myself out for good.
Thanks again, Pezos
Blimey, I really must have killed it! Surely someone out there can help me fix it?
