[Q] Issue connecting Fascinate to Computer - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a samsung fascinate that will not connect to my computer no matter what I do. I have installed the drivers from samsung, I have connected through mass storage with usb debugging on, I have connected as mass storage without debugging on. I just cannot figure out why my computer will not recognize the phone. It just says that it is charging, and I am getting quite fed up with it. I want to connect it in order to root it, but if it will not read that the phone is attached, what am I to do? HELP ME!
Thanks!

Are you on Windows 7? Lately my pc has been doing the same thing. Except I can't get ANY usb devices to work. But here is my suggestion, shut down your pc, then unplug the power cord from the back and let it sit for a while. Then boot it up and see if that helps.

Also make sure you are using the stock cable. I've had problems with using an aftermarket cable before.

The issue was not using the stock cable... WHO KNEW?!

I had the same issues with the stock cable, on a whim I tried the cable to my kindle and it worked perfectly.

also just an idea, but check device manager to see if there is any errors with it, also admin privileges (not sure if needed)

eh sorry didnt see problem was solved

[Q] SGS2 USB not detected (kind of)

ok, so today i decided to help my friend fix her SGS2, since it was suddenly going CRAZY after she switched to her spare battery! she has been using it for only..3-4 months with no problems until today AFAIK. she is a normal user, so no rooting nothing.
phone version 2.3.3, zskg2.
so basically the problems that happened were that:
1.) MTP App thing kept flashing for a while, so i tried to turn it off and reboot. after a few times the MTP thing stopped, but then another happened. after powering off, the phone would still turn back on immediately by itself.
2.) Dock screen (as if the phone was docked) kept appearing for no reason
3.) battery life draining like crazy
so i thought it was just a software problem , i could flash a few roms whatever and it would be ok.
we thoguht maybe it was the spare battery's fault, so i eventually changed back to the original Samsung battery when trying to fix. no luck.
so i plugged the phone into usb on my computer. no response WTF? ticked usb debugging tried just usb media storage mode etc neither computer nor phone did anything when usb attached! BUT, the phone is able to charge from electric wall socket. very strange.
HOWEVER, when i ran ODIN, it actually detected somehow?! So i decided to uninstall and reinstall kies, thinking maybe it would help. i think after reinstalling, i plugged the phone in and it did install drivers, or maybe i was confusing it with some other driver installation.. actually i might be confused since i had my own SGS2 with me as well.
so after googling and searching a bit for things like 'usb problems' etc, i thought maybe her usb port was just dirty. currently dont have access to alcohol to clean it a bit but actually out of maybe 50 times of plugging and unplugging the USB cable i got the phone to have a response twice?
Anyway, I managed to flash CF-root and then flashed Litening ROM on her phone. it still does not do anything when i plug in the USB cable.
any ideas people? phone is just charging from socket now. after flashing litening ROM i still had one instance where it randomly changed to the Dock screen. weird as hell.
Maybe its broke and needs a warranty repair. Do you really think you should have tried flashing, making the warranty void?
On a more helpful note I spent hours trying to make my sgs2 connect to my new laptop. It would charge but not connect.
I got it to work by using a USB port on the other side of the PC. Simple as that. Something to do worth more power on USB port that attaches directly to the motherboard.

From what I read, it surely looks like there is something wrong with the USB/USB port/USB cable to PC.
I don't know an exact answer to solve your problem, but I can only list possibilities to certain fixes.
- Use a different port on your computer
- Try a different computer
- Change USB to PC cable
- Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Wipe Cache Partition
- Wipe Battery Stats
If that doesn't work, you have to go back to your local provider, assuming either Smartone, 1O1O, 3 or PCCW and hope that they would fix it for you IF you didn't reset your counter back to 0. If you want to bring it back and it is under warranty, get a USB jig off eBay, plug it in to the phone, and the custom counter would reset so you can claim your full warranty. (just hope that your USB slot can even recognize the jig when inserted or you're screwed)
uh oh.. crap. she didn't get the phone through the networks but yeah.. guess I might have to usb jig it etc. thanks for advice guys.

again, thanks for the advice about this .
this morning i did manage to get the phone to at least register that it was charging when plugged in to the USB, although it would still not do the USB debug or media storage mode at all. Additionally, the 'dock' screen also appeared several times after unplugging the USB. really strange. also tried using another computer and USB ports as well, didn't make a difference either..
i even tried turning off the phone, taking out battery and cleaning the usb port with rubbing alcohol, and it temporarily solved the self booting problem but it came back again shortly.
would you have any experience with whether the samsung repair centres void warranty or not in HK? i am getting a USB JIG just in case though..
just wondering: would I be able to use qtadb program to access the phones sdcard you think? since odin could detect and flash, but not kies or the normal windows driver stuff.

sounds to me like the usb cable is not working
or your pc case is not giving enought power to be detected properly, try to plug it directly to the motherboard usb ports
i also believe making the warrnty void was not the smartest choice lol
cheers

Easiest way is to place a Micro SD card into the phone, backup all data from the internal SD card to the Micro SD card. Keep it simple
Titanium Backup is a great app for that since you're rooted.

You can connect QtADB with your phone via Wifi, so if USB does not work, since the USB does not really work.
Yes, QtADB works with External SD support
How to connect QtADB with Phone via Wifi
1) connect Your phone via usb, when it’s connected choose Connection->WiFi from menu and type phones IP and port (to change connection mode You need to connect QtADB with phone because its changing options in phone, not in QtADB. Next time You don’t have to connect usb before connecting via Wifi)
2) install on phone adbWireless and run. Press green button, it will show Your IP and port on phone screen. Type it to the QtADB and press connect.

It also breaks down storage info into system partition, data partition, internal and external SD cards etc.

hi again all, I didn't manage to get qtadb to work .but anyway, my friends phone started going crazy dockscreen mode again and turning on by itself. so i flashed stock rom and kernel back on friends's phone with odin, and then USB jig worked perfectly fine! thanks for responses and help guys!

[Q] Q USB debugging. Need help ;/

I plug my phone to my PC and instead of seeing "USB Debugging connected" nothing comes up. The battery icon says that it is charging, but the ADB doesn't pick up the device...

hey friend..... Check the usb cable and the phone connector...... If both are working perfect then u can just factory reset ur phone....
The problem might be with the drivers on your computer try to see if SEUS or PC Companion can see your phone
I think my phone is a problem. because it is only charging. And he does not respond to the attached USB cable
settings are enabled USB port debuging. but the phone does not respond to anything, just to the charging battery. I think that here is a phone fault or phone drivers.
sorry for my bad english
I m pretty sure that ur phone's connector is not working properly becoz my usb is also giving me a little problem......

yeah I'm gonna guess your USB port is dead. Mine is gone on my phone and I'm stuck on miniCM9 with nAa-ics-02. My advice is SD reader for file transfer ADB over wifi for ADB and an external battery charger for charging. works for me

USB Problem

ok when i plug my player into my laptop, the laptop makes a sound like it knows its plugged in. I have all the drivers installed and never had an issue before but now it shows up in device manager as an unknown device with the yellow triangle. My player won't even show that its connected to a pc and i can't mount it. It also doesn't acknowledge when its plugged into the charger. if I turn it off and plug it in, it just comes on. It used to go to the battery charging screen and i would have to manually turn it on. the fact that my laptop acknowledges that something is plugged in makes me think its not a hardware problem and the fact that i take really good care of it. any ideas??

Wrong section.
is this only your laptop? Does it work on other computers?
sadly i don't have another computer to try it out on. but right when i read this i plugged it in my xbox and it started charging.... and it still won't charge with the wall charger
sorry about the wrong section also
It may sound stupid but turn off your player and turn it on again. This happened to me once and that did the trick

that was my first thought but it didn't help. it won't even mount in recovery mode
ok i just tried it on a friends laptop and it shows up as unknown also
try deleting it from your laptop and let it install again worked for me : )
it always shows up as unknown... just did a full wipe and reflash and nothing has changed

Have you installed Kies. You can use the reinstall the driver option. Another thing is while it is plugged in uninstall the device in the device manager. Then unistall everything under you universall serial bus controller one at a time. Then click on the action command at top of menu bar and scan for new hardware. It will reinstall the usb hubs and root hub. Make sure your player is unplugged when you do this. Then reinstall the samsung usb drivers then plug in after everything is done.

Exact same thing happened to me. Try using a different cable. I used a different cable and it started working normally again. Remember to plug it in and out slowly to avoid damaging it.
One easy thing to check for is whether or not the PC detects the player. Assuming you have Win 7 (the steps for Win XP is nearly identical), right click on My Computer and select "Manage." Go to "Device Manager" and find out whether or not your devices is listed under "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
I had this problem happen to me before and the first step in its solution was going here. (The rest of the info is on multiple threads around here)
ok i tried uninstalling it in device manager and reinstalling the drivers with kies but it still registers as an unknown device. i tried 3 different cables and so far the only way to get it to charge is to plug it into my xbox while the the xbox is off.... i can't get mass storage cuz my player doesn't recognize its connected to a pc... it doesn't acknowledge when i plug it into the wall charger still. the last thing i remember doing before this happened was i installed minfree manager and used some settings i found on the internet somewhere and then i deleted the data to Wild Blood and uninstalled it because i couldn't get it to run without lag

what drivers are installed? it'll tell you when it tries to check for drivers, checking off what you have and what driver-installations failed, if you check for it in the lower right hand corner
ok i charged it to 100 percent with my xbox and now it will at least charge when plugged into my laptop but not mount. it still doesn't charger with the wall charger either. i have no idea how to check what drivers i have installed. i assume they're right because i downloaded the kies from the samsung website as it was the only download option for the yp-g70 ... i've uninstalled the "unknown device" repeatedly with no luck. i even tried to update the drivers and point it to the usb drivers folder in the kies installation folder and it still doesn't work... idk what to do...

Well, I had the exact problem a few months ago and fixed it. Disclaimer- low-medium risk. no responsibility here
I'll give you the condensed version, since the whole is posted elsewhere. after deleting the existing drivers from the laptop, I plugged in the SGP. in the icon tray, the lower right corner, there's this gray box that appears with circular, moving arrows. Right click to see what's being installed. It's automatically connecting to your USB device and searching for teh drivers. every driver but the Mass Storage driver (I forgot the exact name of the file- MTB comething?) installed properly. from there I went to the device manager and found option under the USB controller in properties to fix the problem. took me a few tries.
i mean delete your usb files on your laptop when you plug it in it will install the usb drivers then it should work again : )
thank you everyone who helped i'll make sure to go thru and click thanx for all of you. especially since this was the wrong place to post this. i finally got it to work. i noticed that my usb cord smelled like my cologne and so i wiped it down with alcohol and a qtip only to see the qtip turn green. from there i knew there was corrosion involved so i followed the instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30778095&postcount=1 and now everything is back to normal so again thanks everyone!!

USB Connection not working

I been trying to connect my phone to my computer now for about an hour. My phone recognizes that it's charging, but won't come up as MTP device. I have tried reinstalling drivers turning the phone off and on again, no dice. Here is the strangest part. I have 3 cables and I tested them all. One of them connects it to the computer as MTP the others just as charging. Has anyone else had this problem with their GN2?
I'm having the same issue, forum digging has proven fruitless thus far :/
Try a usb hub. It worked for me...

DNA now won't connect to PC

So I was just going to change ROMs, and I realized that my DNA won't connect to a PC over USB anymore. I always plug it in at work via USB to a laptop to charge, and it would normally open the autostart/autorun window, which I would always notice because I'll switch computers often. Last week the autostart dialog stopped opening, but I was distracted with work being busy and it just went to the back of my mind.
Until now.
I've checked all the normal trivial stuff... trying different cables, using different USB ports, and obviously different PCs. It also won't be detected by ADB. Yes, developer options are enabled, yes USB debugging is enabled. It sounds to me like its the port on the phone, so then I'm screwed, but I was just wondering if anyone knows any tricks I can try.
Are you running a custom rom? Go to settings>storage>storage settings>USB computer connection and make sure the connect as Media device (MTP) is checked. Same thing happened to me and some how this setting was unchecked

You going to laugh at me but download PDAnet and it will redownload the correct drivers.

Have you found a solution for this? I am in the exact same situation with no solutions working for me. I tried PDAnet and many other things. The device is unrecognized by my computer completely not even showing up in the device manager. This likely is a hardware issue, but I'm rooted with no way to return to stock because I can't connect to my computer which makes me unable to use my warranty for repair. This is a really unfortunate pickle as I'm not sure if I can even do anything at this point. I have found online that people with a hardware issue with connecting to their computers also had the slow charge notification when charging either through the computer or the power adapter. Mine does not display slow charge which gives me some hope that it is somehow a driver issue. Do you get the slow charge notification at all?
EDIT: It's a hardware issue for me. Noticed my charger is sticking slightly more out than usual, and it just can't get the right connection

Hey guys, just figured I'd follow up. Sorry for the delay, XDA email notifications somehow ended up in my spam folder.
Anyway, for me it just turned out to be that all the cables I tried were bad. Pretty low odds, I'm actually surprised both my cable at home and the one at work were all bad. Sure enough I tried it with a coworker's cable and it worked fine.
