[FreeXperiaRecovery/Custom Kernels][updated 01/06/11]!k011/k012 (has uv/oc/uc)! - XPERIA X10 Android Development

Hi all,
I need some testers from all available roms for x10. From stock rom and all custom roms.
Cause there are many custom roms available and they don't use all the same recovery, it's heavy-handed to create update.zips who can used by everyone. If I count a few there are:
people with a 2.2 rom without the needed files for applying custom kernel
people with a 2.2 rom with the needed files for applying custom kernel
people with a 2.2 rom and xrecovery
people with a 2.2 rom and freexperiarecovery
and so on.
my aim is it, to have one update.zip, who works for all people, no matter if they have applied a custom kernel before or have this recovery and not those...
but i can't test all roms now, cause this would need time and nerves i haven't.
Because that, i made two update.zips:
First includes:
please test this first and if this works, flash the one with the kernel, that we know if there are problems, if they come from the recovery part or the uncompatibility between rom and kernel
chargemon file whos made for FreeXperiaRecovery
FreeXperiaRecovery
Requirements:
this zip should work on all basebands, but i generally prefer bb 2.0.52 from here with bb patch for 2.2 roms from here
Second includes:
chargemon file whos made for FreeXperiaRecovery and boots custom kernel as default
kernel folder: latest custom kernel (k006) with miniloader and splboot.ko files
FreeXperiaRecovery
wifi modules for 2.2 and 2.3 roms
Kernel k011/k012 changelog:
kernel 2.6.29.6
a lil more free ram
removed UV for 998Mhz (seems to be the cause reboots)
Fix FrameCap (Thank Z)
addded all mtd partitions (Thank Z)
volume fix
compiled with new gcc 4.4.3
changed SLAB alocator to SLOB
enabled swap support
added Tiny RCU
added UV/OC (k012)
added UC (k012.1)
FPS cap removed
fixed iptables
Requirements:
Flash the ftf bundle from the latest Cm 7 release with flashtool
Only for 2.2 roms: Basebandpatch 49 from here
Please test the update.zips on your rom (but make a backup before flashing, that you can restore anything if s.th. goes wrong) and report if it works on your rom, and don't forget to tell which rom you tested on.
before installing, make sure you comply the requirements
installation:
For users who haven't FreeXperiaRecovery yet:
first install FreeXperiaRecovery v02.zip
reboot into recovery
install latest version
now boot up system and enjoy
For users who have FreeXperiaRecovery yet:
install directly latest version
now boot up system and enjoy
Legend:
FX = FreeXperia
FXR = FreeXperiaRecovery
gb = Gingerbread
froyo = froyo
only wrote bin or xbin instead of system/bin or system/xbin
Link for first zip (only FreeXperiaRecovery):
FXR_v051.zip
Link for second zip (FreeXperiaRecovery and custom Kernel as default booted):
2.6.29.6_FX_k011+FXR_v0.0.8.2.zip
2.6.29.6_FX_k012+FXR_v0.0.9.1.zip
2.6.29.6_FX_k012.1+FXR_v0.1.0.0.zip
Install this for using the custom kernel with froyo (Thanks ! tsuyo.kou):

Trying it on Trips gingerbread MIUI ROM. I'll report back!
It booted, and OC works (setCPU)! Will try it for a while to test performance and battery.
Alright, the touch and animations is very smooth with this kernel. And WiFi works!
I'll use it for a while and see if it drains much battery.
EDIT: As it seems now it drains hella lot battery. :/ Even though im using the BOOST guide and screen of profile in setCPU. Will calibrate the battery a few times and see if it helps..

Havent tried, I have to go now. But i'll try it later!

Is it not possible for all dev's to use a standard recovery/chargemon?
I think that would save alot of headache and would probably be easier.
Any thoughts?

It is possible, but they don't do. So if my zip works on all roms, you can simply apply your rom how it is described in the rom thread and boot it to be sure the rom works and then flash my zip. If anyone make it that way in future, everyone would have the same recovery and you wouldn't have headache

@OP
please mention that this WILL BREAK DATA2SD and any enhancements/addon features provide by ur current ROM
EDIT:
@OP it would be better if u can create an update.zip to take backup of current recovery and then replace it with FreeXperia recovery... also u can create another "BackToStock" update.zip to remove FreeXperia recovery and then restore original recovery...

@ALL

please keep reporting ur tests in the following thread....

Can anyone confirm??

same thing here with wolf rom. i'm gonna try trip's gingerbread rom.
edit : i confirm it's not working on wolfbreak rom.

tested on jerpelea's v15 stock, everything works except wifi which just shows error, xrecovery works fine.
no rebooting issues.
I have however been using this all day and battery life is good.

just have WLOD while restoring apps with titanium backup on Wolfbreak cm 6.1.3 V061
pd1: bluetooth dont work

ok, s.th. strange happened to me, i flashed the same zip again (i haven't edited the file or moved renamed, nothing) but after that second flashing, my recovery was broken too and i got a lot of fc's like described from many others. Now i wanted to flash freexperiarecovery without kernel to see if the problem is there or by the kernel, but can't get the zip file to work. So, I'm going to sleep now, maybe i can't see anything important at the moment cause i'm so tierd. But thanks for testing it yet on some roms

This ROM is based on the newest Release of CM6 stable. I did not use the experimental branch which is commonly used for nightly builds. This ROM is supposed to be stable and therefore the newest stable sources are used. In order to provide the best possible ROM it has been tweaked for stabilty and performance.
Please keep in mind to also thank or donate to owain for the ramdisk I used as well as jerpelea for his excellent work with the FreeXperia project and all the efforts they put in there.
This ROM is still a dev ROM so if you don't have any issues with owain excellent work please feel free to keep using his ROM. Anyhow I managed to make a Low DPI version of CM6 and I hope you like it.
Got a FC with gmail, then cleared app.data from Settings/Applications/Manager(thanks temes!!)

Instructions
if you are coming from other than froyo wipe data
if you have aboot loop do factory reset and install again
install via xrecovery
reboot takes a bit longer
Troubleshoot
If Display stays dark after bootanimation hold against light push power button/back button
turn of automatic brightness if above annoys you

goto settings->cyanogen settings-> user interface -> extra tweaks -> Themes -> choose XHC from List -> reboot
Some Things you might wonder
You can change notification bar color in Cyanogen Settings
You can change ADW Launcher Themes in the ADW Settings, click on get Themes, it will show you market with hundreds of Themes
Don't flash Themes from owains floyo, different framework-res.apk, if you want more Themes I can make them or you just download theme open frameres.apk and copy PNG into this ROMs apk and push it back (Permissions 644)
You can change LED notfication colors in Cyanogen Settings
Leave JIT enabled it boosts performance on daily usage. Turning JIT off might seem faster in benchmark but in daily usage its slower
You can change heapsize for the vm in cyanogen settings (24,32 or 34 is good)
overclocking may cause infinite bootloops just open the zip file with winrar highlight x8oc.ko and hit delete the file is in /system/lib/modules/ and flash the zip again
Version 2 doesnt have app2sd enabled on default. You can use Settings->Applications->select Application and move to SD its much better and more convenient. If you want App2SD back please check the Posts I posted it there with instructions
If your video and audio with camcorder are out of sync please download a new camera app from market this will fix it

v2.1
some people had bluetooth issues? here is the fix
v2.0
compiled again with latest CM6
still some libs/bins/ramdisk/chargemon used not a lot though thanks to owain/nobodyatall
Google Apps Stuff added
LDPI fully working now
new Market
Browser/Gmail/Facebook should't crash
Games should run smoother (new gralloc, copybits, egl)
MDDI module added (thanks to doixanh)
a lot small bugfixes for ui
added languages
most cyanogen settings should now work
recompiled not using eclair_memory dealer so maybe it improves jit a bit
overall really stable and fast ideal for daily usage
v1.0
compiled with latest CM6
some libraries and bins are still from owains v4 final as I have troubles with some prelinks in next update I hope to make everything independent from other roms.
thanks to nobodyatall for his mini cm tweaks! credits go to him! its still based on some parts of the minicm
What are the (major) differences between the old sources and the newer ones?
thanks
@slade thanks a lot,
also thanks to owain and his community....
any major difference is there , like can we import any apk from gingerbread or its fremwork so crt can work on froyo.....
Hey slade, port ramdisk.tar from owain's final rom, to fix reboots bug
Nice work bro
yeah thats the ramdisk i am using racht fixed it on the x8 section excellent work from him!
i still need a bit longer to test and upload
Slade use ramdisk and chargemon from minicmpro rom then reboot problem will be fixed
I will add it to cm7 soon mate
Is it cm6 final sources?

better openGL libs and based on CM6 Final
i never used froyo since v3.4 so i can't tell you the differences in detail. this rom (as well as minicm) are all based on cm6 so differences will end up in speed/performance/stability. if you are fine with v4 final no need to switch
links are up and running.
however this ROM is far from final still some things to do but overall I am pleased with the first build.
have fun.
owain's one is based on cm6, this is CM6, isn't it??
almost all roms are based on cyanogenmods but this doesnt mean they are the same
so this one is based on CM6 like owain's one... but u said it's faster, isn't it?
its based on cm6, its a clean build. I don't know if it is faster but its pretty stable i can tell you that . OpenGL Performance is a bit better (lags less).
owains one is based on minicm which is based on cm 6.1 and floyo.
mine is based on latest stable cm6.14
..................................
thanks for the explanation mate, I'll try your work soon!
Ok, what the hell is this: it flashes, starts and if i do some outrageous things (going all to the left in the home, or popping out the keyboard.... found those two till now) it crashes and reboots. I think that for me the latest working rom was owain's 3.4 floyo.
kernel 2.6.29
baseband M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015
Ok, help me choose here, which one is better and less crashing? Gingebread v13 from Slade87, Froyo final from Owain94 or this one? Just going to flash my fresh 2.1 because need to use flash player..

[Q] questions about custom kernel

created this to avoid polluting the dev forum with my noobness
I've been following the kernel development from a distance, but getting more and more interested as the progress goes, for those testing it: Can I use it with any rom without compromise? For instance, camera will still work on wolfbreak's CM6?
The instructions on FreexperiaRecovery thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046609 are slightly confusing (too much info perhaps) but to do a fresh start of froyo with custom kernel i should:
1-flash a stock 2.1 with baseband 52 (or flash bb 52 separately) with flashtools
2-flash freexperiaRecovery and kernel with flashtools
3-flash baseband fix for 2.2 with freexperiaRecovery
4-flash 2.2 rom with freexperiaRecovery
5-reboot
Is that correct?
u need to flash the 2.2 rom first before the baseband patch, everything else seems about right
thanks! can't wait to try it
i'll ask here so i don't open another noob thread so sorry for the hijack
anyway, is there a custom kernel for 2.2 that has everything working? i can't seem to find a nice list of kernels with working/not working changelog, and of course it's benefits over the stock kernel
any explanation would be great

hm, not sure what you were trying to say but i was searching for a kernel not rom
At this point the custom kernel is not stable (i.e. battery drain). I'd give it a month or two before a fully working kernel is released.
yeah, i've read there's a battery drain issue with the kernel, i've waited until now, waiting a little more wouldn't hurt.

hi i am using FreeX10 beta4 hotfix1 runnin on bb52.. successfully but i cant seem to get the custom kernel to work... there are just too much info in the development section i hav been tryin to get this custom kernel to boot... but my fone keeps boot loopin
pls share your insight....
Finally decided to try a custom kernel, the zkernel for higher basebands since bb67 worked so well for me and I'm glad I've waited, not only this kernel is very stable but super easy to install.
No need to change my baseband or anything, simply flashed it with xrecovery 0.3 over my wolf's froyo rom, followed by Doomlord's fixes and after the reeboot, it was working, after two days use i've detected no issues.
Doomlord's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136940
z's original thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135475
note 1: I've flashed z's original file and both doomlord's boot.img and wifi fix zip files, but in his thread Doomlord already provides the kernel with different boot.img for each rom.
note 2: there are two versions, but you only need the z23062011 version if the previous one gives you random shutdowns.

Having stock kernel, from where I stand, test results are the same as in XGin 6.1. concerning Linpack, AnTuTu and Quadrant. I attach screenshots bellow. Well, still a great Rom, the best, good battery life and , of course, Cypress users like me have to add ax8mt.ko module again....
After checking FB Indonesia, looks like the Changelog mostly reffers to tweaking the Rom with the existing , rich, .apk's and making it Compatible with custom kernel. So it looks like the problem lies with me, that I still have Stock kernel...
Attached a Screenshot from Kryshna Yana, from FB Indo, showing great results with diferent Kernel.
Thanks for that,
And for a great job.
I feel there is not enough importance given to this great Rom.
on the other hand is true that I use XGin on a day to day basis from the beginning, so mabe I am a bit bias. But anyways the rom is stable, smooth, and just suitable to my use and to anyone that needs a stable, reliable, no FC and no OC either. Great battery life, 1% loss over night.
All credits to Rieken Yuki : thank you master for a great ROM.
Also to Mika Dee for the site and support.
Credits go deeper - to Shpit, the original XGin Dev, FrogyFurnetal for contribution, other Indo users and Devs and of course to original CM6, CM7 dev. team. As I understand, Rom is ported from Hero.
Thanks to anyone who contributed.

ADDED: Mastah Rieken Yuki gave me the fix for CMparts, now we have OC and UV on this ROM. Great work!!
All credits to Rieken Yuki!!

Yes, agreed, and seeing that Shpit's XGIN Op did not update, - not to mention changed his XDA name - I decided to post XGin 6.1 for now. We'll see in future what happens. For the moment Rieken Yuki is porting the new nightlies from Hero, but I cannot give ETA for new version. This version I consider it deserves more attention.
Enjoy,
Cheers
Ok my experience:
-Good performance, except the transistion animation, its slow sometimes.
-The boot time is ok, fast.
-I have no problem with bluetooth and wifi.
Bug:
-if i choose clockworkmod on reboot menu, it doesnt enter to it!
I'still testing it! i hope i can do a short review video for the weekend!

Do you know if he is managing to make his on kernel for this ROM?
Edit: About SIMLock, if you unlock bootloader, you will have to unlock sim again, but I didn´t see anyone who did it already. Everyone who unlocked, said that asks Blagus for the fix, but seems that he is not answering, or ppl aren´t giving the expected feedback on the thread. (sry for the OT)

No idea atm ...but I do not have the bootloader unlocked. reason: I had a simlock on my phone...experts say unlocking will re-appear that simlock. Do u know if is true or not? Anyways for that reason I did not ask about kernel, but I will asap.

Sorry for that , but I posted enough things (changelog, new link, etc) and also I thought the title deserves attention : Rieken Yuki, and not Shpit (thank you for all the work done) anymore.
Thanks for the info with unlocking and for the info on Alfs' kernel, unfortunately I cannot (should not, right? ) unlock it.
Could you be so kind post some Antutu/Quadrant/linpack results with Alfs?
I have no pc right now,and i have nAa kernel for miniCM...if i had alfs kernel i would install xGin...sorry :/
You could unlock your phone if you are willing to pay for another sim unlocking.you have no choce.or,buy another sim card from the phone operator where you bought your x8.

no way, unfortunately, that is not applicable. diferent countries.
But that's off-topic.

But meanwhile, do you think nAa kernel is not compatible to XGin? Could you see into that? or you know for a fact?

When you can, if you remember. No rush. We will be waiting some results.
But meanwhile, do you think nAa kernel is not compatible to XGin? Could you see into that? or you know for a fact?

For the moment 6.1. Rom is build to work with kernel Rom. If you check above, nAa Kernel is known not to work with a multitude of Roms. Different would be Alf's Kernel which is known to work on most Roms.
Anyways, the rom is supposed to be installed with xRecovery, so....you can try to do the following:
-go back to stock Kernel, install XGin with xRecovery
- then install Alfs with the patch, then see if that works.
That's all I have for now.
Keep well,

{Update: 9/Apr/12}[Custom Kernels Now For Froyo]

I have only tried this on FroyoPro (all versions) with LinuxDX & AlfsGDX v05/6/7/8. Please try it with your favourite rom/kernel combination and report the results here!
1: Flash FroyoPro.
2: Flash x8FroyoPro-Alfsv8+AllFixv3.zip.
3: Reboot, no need to flash anything else.
Or for older kernels:
Ok this is really easy...
1: Flash Froyo rom & custom kernel of your choice. (Any order.)
2: If you want to use Alfasamsung's Alfsv05/6/7 Kernel: Flash "x8AlfsKernelAllin1FixV2.zip" in ClockWorkMod.
OR
2: If you want to use Doixanh's LinuxDX Kernel: Flash "x8LDXKernelAllin1FixFroyo.zip" in ClockWorkMod.
3: WiFi works now, press thanks.
This is for Froyo roms only! Please Note: Read everything you can in kernel threads & Flashtool thread/website.
I recommend the capped versions of Alfs kernel however uncapped will score higher in bench mark tests.
I also recommend not using compcache and using swap instead. More info in Enable Swap 4 X8.
You only need to flash one of the fixes attached after flashing your ROM, no other flashing necessary!

Returning To Stock Kernel:
To return to stock kernel with out losing your data & with ClockWorkMod & XRecovery enabled:
(No guarantee!!! Try at your own data's risk! However this now works all the time for me.)
1: Flash "x8lrakkarlsBack2StockKernel4Froyo.zip" in ClockWorkMod. Download Here or Mirror.
2: Flash "E15_Stock_Kernel.ftf" with Flashtool. Download stock kernel Here or Mirror.
3: WiFi, offline charging, USB mount, ClockWorkMod/XRecovery all working properly with stock kernel, click thanks!
Please Note: This has only been tested on FroyoPro v2.3! Any other bugs come up, report them here!
Change-Log/Extras:
UPDATED: 26/Jan/12
Added "x8AlfsKernelAllin1FixV2.zip".
This fixes compcache, sd mounting (not that I personally had a problem before), WiFi for Froyo, USB mount, etc
UPDATED: 16/Jan/12
Removed, renamed and re-uploaded all files as per users requests. (Removed my name from files.)
New fix for Doixanh's LinuxDX Kernel "x8LDXKernelAllin1Fix.zip". USB working now. Nice, stable kernel, with no oc. Please test for other bugs.
"x8CustomKernelWifiFix4Froyo.zip" outdated now but in case any person wishes to download, moved it to post#3.
UPDATED: 14/Jan/12
Lots of guide changes and thread updates. It is now much easier for you to do what you want!
Returning to stock kernel is now (hopefully) quick, easy & bug free.
I have now tried the WiFi fix with LinuxDX & WiFi is working but USB mount is not. Didn't check anything else.
UPDATED: 13/Jan/12
"x8lrakkarlsBack2StockKernel4Froyo.zip"
To return to stock kernel but with ClockWorkMod & XRecovery enabled. Ready to flash another rom.
UPDATED: 12/Jan/12
Added "x8lrakkarlsAlfsKernelAllin1Fix4Froyo.zip" as it seemed to be needed.
Flash this if you are using Alfs Kernel on Froyo. It will fix WiFi, USB & offline charging with just one zip.
UPDATED: 11/Jan/12
"x8lrakkarlsBack2StockKernelWifiFix4FroyoV2.zip"
Should work in XRecovery now.
UPDATED: 11/Jan/12
"x8lrakkarlsBack2StockKernelWifiFix4Froyo.zip"
with vold and chargemon, offline charging & USB works now haha.
Please re-download if you were one of the 3 people who downloaded this fix!!!
You can find a list of kernels (& roms) available for our phone here:

FroyoBread 23b work fine with alfs kernel, but phone is heating 39C and battery drain very fast
Update:
Added: "x8lrakkarlsAlfsKernelAllin1Fix4Froyo.zip" as users seemed to be forgetting to flash the vold+chargemon fix after the WiFi fix.
Edit:
Japos
I think you have figured this out already but you also need to flash chargemon+vold update from alfasamsung's thread.

Glad you could work it out, sometimes it feels better if you can figure it out by yourself.

Which version of Alfs Kernel? Some people are reporting battery drain on v06...
alfs kernel v6
"x8lrakkarlsBack2StockKernel4Froyo.zip"
To return to stock kernel but with ClockWorkMod & XRecovery enabled. Ready to flash another rom.
so before going back to stock i have to flash this?
Yes it would be a good idea!
It is much more dependable than:
"x8lrakkarlsBack2StockKernelWifiFix4FroyoV2.zip" method.
as sometimes (I need more testers) when flashing stock kernel first, CWM/XRec cannot be accessed & all apps force close after rom boots. The only way to fix if this happens is to start from stock rom again or reflash alfs & install a custom rom that is compatible with alfs.
Sorry if this is confusing, the bug is confusing too as I can't work out why sometimes flashing the stock kernel first works fine and other times it doesn't.
(That and I am too busy enjoying FP2.3 with Alfs & making more fixes for other kernels )
In short: You definitely will be able to access CWM/XRec if flashing "x8lrakkarlsBack2StockKernel4Froyo.zip" before flashing stock kernel. It also includes the wifi fix for stock kernel.
thanks for fast respond

Confirmed!..
install "x8lrakkarlsBack2StockKernelWifiFix4FroyoV2.zip" > flash stock kernel > working cwm/xrec..
and cwm/xrec cannot be accessed if "x8lrakkarlsBack2StockKernelWifiFix4FroyoV2.zip" is installed after flashing stock kernel..
btw.. can u please rename the fix .zip file with the shorten file name..
Thank you for testing!
I have now made many thread updates as well as Allin1 fix for LinuxDX.
See change-log for more info & please test LinuxDX with Allin1fix!
Has anyone tried it on froyobread?

[ROM] JoyOs 1.2.2 (Clean Port) [GB][UBL] 66mb! + Kitchen 'The Port Hub'

Hello People of XDA!
You may have seen this ROM before, but the ports have been messy with files that our device does not use. I have rebuilt this ROM myself using FXP125 Base ROM and the latest JoyOs 1.2.2
During my porting adventure, I ran into alot of problems getting things to work. But after about 20 fresh installs, I managed to get a fully working clean ROM.
The ROM however has one issue. The two lights between the bottom buttons do not work. I don't know why, maybe one of you could shed some light on the subject.
I have NOT Kanged this release BUT feel free to modify and distribute better versions, after all it is open source
Link to download: http://www.mediafire.com/?2dw7h70s2l1u4pe (66.12MB)
Install Procedure: Unlocked Bootloader Only
*Use the backup/restore feature in CWM Recovery to avoid loss of data.
1. Download Ckernel CM7 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26638116&postcount=51
*Credit lies with Championswimmer for the Kernel
2. Download this ROM & copy to your SDCard
3. Flash Ckernel CM7 using Flashtools (will add links later)
4. Boot into Recovery and format dalvik cache, cache, data & system
5. Install .zip using CWM Recovery
6. Reboot device and wait for cache to rebuild
7. Do a second reboot for all apps to display. (torch, filemanager)
8. Enjoy
I will probably try and port other ROM's if requests are made.
PLEASE READ OP BEFORE ADDING NOOB COMMENTS. If you dont know how to flash a Kernel or unlock your bootloader, search the forum because its all there.
Bugs
-no hw LED's
-low fps recording on video camera. Photo camera works perfect with auto-focus
-waiting for reports by testers
Thank you for trying my version of this ROM.
NEW KITCHEN!!! Introducing... The Port Hub
I have made my own little basic kitchen to help port roms. If you like porting roms, this maybe useful to you.
http://www.mediafire.com/?31r3wz0z35sgwg4
You dont even need to download base rom, files have been included from FXP125 base, just put your port in the PORT folder and use the One click.bat
If it does not zip the rom, install 7zip before zipping!

nope you cnt use ,use FXP kernel or posted kCernel (link) in OP.. :good:
I am not sure, try it! but make sure to flash wifi modules. Otherwise, try CKernel, it is one of the best kernels.

I used DoomKernel a while ago, but now to me it feels outdated so I use Ckernel. But DoomLords Kernel is very stable and it may run on this version but I cannot say that I have tried it. but yes, as I am using a FXP base, an FXP based Kernel is needed
Just installed it and soo far soo good I would love to see lewa OS port from you, thx for this rom, smooth and fast, so far no bugs found.
