ppl having problems downloading mms on custom roms - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was having trouble getting mms to work in miui and others untoll I found the problem. If the rom sets up your apn's for you it creates seperate apn's for internet, mms, tethering etc. For Rogers in Canada to get mms to work I had to delete all apn's except the one that is correct and the "apn type:" field must be cleared as apposed to being "default, internet, mms". A quick Google search should tell you what to put for your apn but as long as you delete the others including the one that says its for mms and clear the apn type field it should work now. Only confirmed on Roger's. Others can report back if its strictly a solution for Roger's. Or not.

Can you send though or only receive??
I only have the one apn (telus) and though it is exactly what it should be, I cannot send mms, only receive.

Straight Talk - MMS not working on Official ICS UCLF6 [SOLVED]

After upgrading my stock non-rooted Gingerbread UCLA1 i717 to the official ICS 4.0.4 UCLF6, I cannot send or receive multimedia text messages (MMS). I have the correct APN settings for Straight Talk. They used to work fine on Gingerbread. I have tried different APN settings for Straight Talk and the ST tech support guy reset my account by switching my plan to see if this fixed the issue but it didn't. Internet/Data is working fine. It's just MMS that are not working.
Is anyone else on Straight Talk who upgraded to the official ICS release experiencing this problem?
Everything seems to be configured correctly and it doesn't look like it's ST's fault. Any suggestions on some setting I might have overlooked?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: When you create the APN settings do not choose APN Type. This solved the problem for me. :victory: For some reason when I choose APN Type: internet+mms, my MMS don't work.
Could someone else confirm this? Maybe others could be experiencing this issue with the settings for other providers.
Mine is working fine.I am using the settings given for straight talk for att sims

Thanks for your response ferchope. I found the solution as explained on my edited first post. Just to verify if it's only me experiencing this issue, did you choose an APN Type (intertnet+mms, internet, mms) when you created the APN Settings?
I use internet + mms

Manually switch APNs

I've searched to the best of my ability and can't find much help. My problem is that when I'm any custom ROM (tried about 5 including CM7, CM9 and RootBox JB) I must manually switch APNs when I get a MMS message. So for example, if I receive a picture message, I have to go into my APN setting and manually select my MMS APN, then go back to my messaging app and hit download. Then once it downloads, I have to go back into my APN setting and switch back to my internet APN. On the stock ROM this was not the case. I have all the correct settings, I'm absolutely sure. I've tried editing the apns-conf.xml file to add my carriers settings. Tried flashing without the sim card in. Can't seem to get it to work. I'd really appreciate any help you guys can provide.

I assume you mean combine the two APN settings. I've tried that. All that does is leave me without internet or mms capabilities.
Seriously? what provider do you have? I'm guessing since you're in the USA judging by the american flag in your profile that you're on ATT or straight talk? Telling us what provider you have would help quite a bit..
Edit, I thought help me, help me I'm dying questions belong in the QnA forums?
Sorry, knew I was forgetting something. My carrier is Viaero. I live in the middle of nowhere in Colorado so its basically the only option. AT&T doesn't cover our area. And now this isn't an urgent issue, just something that kind of annoying. All I was looking for were some ideas on how to remedy the situation, so I thought general would be more appropriate.
Post both apns please
I've verified these with Viaero and with another SII running stock. also had an unlocked iPhone before which these worked with. Another side note, on custom roms if I put in the "APN TYPE" I get neither internet nor MMS. So I have to leave those blank to get it to work at all.

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same issue.
For MMS Part .... change port number "9401" to just blank

[Q] Need help with SlimRom MMS

I have an Evo 4g LTE with the latest flash of this ROM and I can not send any picture text. Text... text work fine however. I switched my phone service to Ting and they require that I edit the mmsc (I think it is) address from the factory sprint using ##3282#. I did that and then flashed the phone. I "searched this thread" for mms and this is the closet thing that I can find to the issue I am having (post #74)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40378959&highlight=mms#post40378959
There was also a mention of AOSP uses 3/4g to send the pics even when logged onto wifi, and only another AOSP flashed phone will get them.
What should I try and do to solve this? Should I do what's in the link and change the Mobile network type setting?
And if you're wondering I have not posted more than 10x's so that's why I'm asking here instead of in the development thread
Use go sms... That's what everyone has said in those threads... Good luck!

Some roms are setup to send mms over wifi, but most require mobile data to be enabled like you said. I would try that first. If it still doesn't work, I've fixed it before by installing Handcent, setting it as the default mms app (inside Handcent settings somewhere), sending a few mms with that app, then uninstalling and going back to the stock messaging app. Mms worked as expected after that.

Okay, thanks guys
Well I dl go sms pro but it did not transfer my contact list, when I try and add a contact it does not save it and it does not send a reg text or mms. I can't find a settings menu either. I've searched for a how to guide here, android forums and google but can't find a dummy guide. What do I need to do?

Can't save APN on CM 10.2

I am on vacation in Costa Rica and bought a prepaid sim from Kolbi, a local carrier. I can make calls but can't receive texts or access data.
I will need to get MMS working because I need to send a text to the carrier to activate the data feature.
I tried to add the APN for the carrier based on settings that I found online but it never seems to save. After each time I add it the APN list shows as blank.
As a workaround, I was thinking of adding the APN to the APN config file and dirty flashing over the ROM.
I can only use the hotels crappy WiFi so it would be difficult to download another ROM.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Bump. Does anyone have any ideas here? This seems like it might be a long standing CM bug across multiple devices, very frustrating.

Getting MMS to work on RingPlus

A number of folks have posted about the inability to send or receive MMS in various threads, especially the RR and CM threads, without an answer. Let's work together to try to solve the problem.
I'm on the latest version of Resurrection Remix. Hoping for more guidance, as MMS works when I go back to stock... but who wants that?
The error I get back from Textly is: Failed MMS: Turn on Mobile Data (tap to resend)
Here are my APN/MMS settings:
Carrier Send Limit: 1MB
MMS Behavior: Legacy
MMSC: http://mms.plspictures.com
MMS Proxy: 68.28.31.7
MMS Proxy Port: 80
Here are some of the other threads I've stumbled upon to try to help, without avail:

Using Qksms and with the custom mms apn settings, I can get it to send using 1x. It will not send using 3G or LTE. Maybe someone can modify the apn-conf.xml in /system/etc to make mms only use 1x.
I changed the bearer under settings->cellular->apn->ringplus to 1x and unspecified but it still wont use 1x for mms. I suspect it is just missing an entry in the system apn-conf.xml.
I do not know what the values are or what entries are missing or will test it out.
This is kind of embarrassing, but I got MMS to work now. I thought for sure that mobile data was turned on, but a recent update must've turned it off.
That, and I also just re-flashed the APN settings for RingPlus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...t/flashable-lte-fix-moto-e-6-x-boost-t3290719
I don't know which of those things ultimately fixed it, but it's now working for me, even on LTE (via Textly... I don't want to go back to the stock messaging window).

I still can only send/receive when I change to 1x or 1xRTT. But it's fine. I don't use mms much. I get the free 100 mms a month but hardly use it.
This is on CM13 official build. Maybe resurrection remix is a few build behind. It used to work on LTE for me.
