Can we flash a Custom SGS rom on SGS2? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Did anyone tried yet to flash custom SGS roms on SGS 2?

It'd be impossible as the hardware is completely different. The ROM would have to be made compatible first. For example, HTC Desire users must port a ROM from the HTC Desire HD by altering parts of it otherwise it will not work.

common sense says this aint happening

Port Android 2.1 vanilla?

As you know the HTC Hero GSM comes with HTC's sense, and I was wondering if there was a way to put the original Android 2.1 on the HTC Hero (basically a clean ROM from Google) without any modifications, hacks or HTC stuff.
I know other devices run Android and must run Google's vanilla android such as the Nexus one, so if I were to port it, how would I go about doing this?
Thanks if you can help
...or you could just look in the Development section? There are tons of vanilla roms that have already been made, and are just awaiting you to put them on your phone?
Why would you go to all the extra trouble of making your own if there are already ones which have been tried, tested and then tested again by many many users?
Have a look: /forumdisplay.php?f=512
I know this already
I just wanted to know if there was a STOCK Android 2.1, you know like you download the stock 2.1 ROM for HTC Hero, is there one for android 2.1, the original provided by google?
It sounds silly but I just wanted an original ROM if possible
Ahh okay I see! No, Google don't provide ROMs for any device except their own Nexus One. HTC provide ROMs for the Hero, and every official HTC Hero ROM has Sense UI on it.
So your best bet is to go with one of the ones provided here. The only things that make them differ from the standard ones are some of the additional feature support as well as the support for the Hero handset.
Hope that helps.

[REQUEST] Port HTC Legend ROM with Flash Lite 4

Can someone out there port HTC Legend ROM to Optimus One? I just want the flash lite that is working on the Legend. Apparently it can only work with the HTC sense ui and HTC browser. So can someone port the Legend rom altogether? Legend has the same processor type and speed. So I hope that there will be no problem. Please don't tell me to download Skyfire. I just hate it.
Cheers
people just should do it like on the iphone make flash as other plugin for the browser i am sure we can make 10.2 to work
if i would find anyway to extract adobes 10.1 maybe we can rewrite the code for the lgp500

[Q] P500 ROMs Family Tree

Pardon for the foolish question
So many ROM dedicated for Optimus One, stock, custom, or AOSP, even Custom from AOSP....I can't remember them all.
I presume there must be some connection between them, like ROM A1 is a custom rom from ROM A. ROM B2 is combine from ROM A1 and ROM B....and so on.
Perhaps someone can explain this ROM universe better, by drawing a family tree or something like that, so we can see how those ROMs have resemblance and inheritance with each other.
Just a thought...
The AOSP ROMs are the original ROMs, they are released by google, and our devs make it work for our device... we can't have the perfectly original on our device, they are made for the Google Nexus S, it is the only device that can run AOSP... it is made for it...
Stock ROM is the ROM made by our device's manufacturer to work perfectly on our phone(AOSP only work bug-free without any modification on google devices, nexus one, s and galaxy nexus)
Custom ROMs are the one's modified, UI, apps, etc... eg CyanogenMod, MIUI, Oxygen etc...

[Q] [QUESTION] Flash GT-I9000 ROM on GT-I9070

Would it work normally? Would it make the phone unusable? Would it work, but with problems?
Or even the Galaxy SII's ROMs, will there be problems if I flash them on my Galaxy SII Lite (Galaxy S Advance/GT-I9070)?
I just installed a custom ROM for the Galaxy S Advance (the only one I found), but this custom ROM is exactly the same as the default ROM... it is just rooted... but it makes no difference, it is easy to root the original ROM too.
Its default ROM version is Gingerbread (Android 2.3), and the custom ROM is based on Gingerbread too. If I flash an ICS ROM or a Jellybean ROM (made for Galaxy S or SII), will my phone show problems? Has anyone ever tested this?
If I flash a custom ROM made for another device, will I be able to reflash the old ROM? I'm pretty sure I will, but asking just to make sure.
Thanks.
May be SoftBrick! )

Please find the following Jet mode 3.0 ICS themed Rom for I9070 .. I don't think you will be able to flash I900 or SII Rom on this the drivers and Hardware libraries will be different for each of these phones and i dont think you will be able to boot with other roms.
If we were able to just Flash the other ROM we would not have porting the ROMS happening right ?
Yeah, right... thats true.
But thanks anyway, at least there is an ICS ROM for I9070... Thank you for the link!
The phone wont boot because there is No ics kernel for s advance so dont need to try it

You will brick your phone. The chipset of Advance is very different from i9000 and i9100.
Try that and say goodbye to your device!
You can only flash roms made to your device, and only for it... there's no way to flash roms for different devices on yours.

[Q] Porting a Sense ROM to a Xperia device

Since the newest thread with a similar title is from December last year, I'm starting a new one.
I've set a goal to port a Sense 3.6 ROM from the HTC Rezound to my Sony Xperia S.
I'll be using this tutorial; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245786
So far, I only have data.
The Rezound ROM is ICS, so I'll be using CM9 for BASE.
But from my experience, Xperia ROMs always have an additional folder that no other manufacturer has.
Question here is, do I send that folder to PORTED or do I leave it out? Last time I tried this (with an AOSP ROM, it didn't matter 'cause it wouldn't boot up anyways...)
Another thing that worries me is whether radios will ever work. I know the chipset is exactly the same in both phones, but the Rezound is a CDMA device. Or is it? I have no idea, but I know I read everything I could on the Rezound.
So if anyone could please answer these questions, I'll be moving onto porting.
Thanks!
I think to get that working you really need some skills. The sense project for xperia is stuck in the nirvana
But good luck
You could try to build one rom including the folder and one without it. I'm not sure because I don't know which files are stored in that folder...
