[Q] Root Access - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will it be difficult to get root access to the phone?

doesn't look like it, i heard pre release was rooted using Gingerbreak and they won't have a locked bootloader either.

I don't know if this is a retail unit, but Gingerbreak 1.10 rooted it.
I can't post links but on YouTube, search for video "9lVft5HoKP8"

that is a pre production model, they usually do not carry final level of protection

Rooting a device is never difficult, especially known Android versions. I can't imagine a non-rootable Android device.

The HTC Wildfire has recieved an OTA froyo update in the end of december, and at the moment of speaking only temporary root is possible.

Bootloader must have been updated and then the exploit must have been fixed(normal HTC procedure).
So yes, this device is rooted, 'temporary' root = Android exploit. 'Permanent' root= bootloader exploit.
Rooting is Android-wise, making it 'permanent root' is saying you changed the kernel to make system partition r/w, so bootloader-wise(changing kernel require bootloader to be unlocked, though there are exceptions).

Oke wow, thank you for this clarification! Pretty new to android, and never looked at it that way. Good that there are people like you who are willing to (re)explain al this ;-)

Gingerbreak 1.2 doesn't seem to work on a retail unit. It sits for ever at the "this may take a few minutes" screen.

Doesn't work as Samsung have closed the exploit. I'm sure we'll get root soon though.

Un-SuperCID ?

Is it possible to un-SuperCID a device that has been SuperCID'd?
I need to return my TyTN under warranty (speaker/ringer no longer working) and am worried that I've lost the warranty status by SuperCID'ing it and upgrading the ROM.
Obviously I can downgrade the ROM, but I've still got the SuperCID status to deal with. Any ideas/thoughts? Anyone returned a modified device to HTC Europe under warranty which had been SuperCID'd?
Thought - I wonder if they will upgrade the ROM for me to AKU 3.2 .....?

Hey!
Look in SAMFIRMWARE site, if there is coming out OFFICIAL update, then its will be up. But if there is NO update, then NO! You must register there, to see download links.

That is not entirely true, for example: there are no roms for America in samfirmware and in fact there are a lot of branded roms and even a generic, all of them official 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 for America.

is your bootloader locked?
i want to buy China Mobile version(G8508S) here in Shanghai and i am afraid the bootloader will be locked and this method above won't work.
mine is g850f, don't really know if I have locked or unlocked bootloader.
For information obviously it tripped the knox warranty void, but I don't care

Cool that's it's rooted already, but there's not a lot of support for the phone, no ROMs, etc.

Ditto for me... on the fence with this one. It has the perfect weight and size, I just don't want it to be an oddball version of a phone that no devs wind up supporting. I've been waiting and waiting for the Nexus 6/X but either way based on the two rumors it seems like it is going up in size which is the opposite direction I'm willing to go.
Guys wait a little, the phone was just released!

I'm interested in this device (to replace a Galaxy Note 3 Neo), however I need it fully HMP-enabled. Is it so? For app support, you can try 3C CPU Manager or 3C Toolbox, it should support your CPU 8 cores already, and show if it's HMP enabled.

Question Are all SM-S918B/DE rootable?

Hi,
Im currently in United States, but Im european.
I would like to buy, and then root S23U.
Ive seen offers for "International SM-S918B/DS"
I know that SM-S918U (USA) and Canada variants have bootloader locked and therefore cant be rooted with magisk.
If i buy SM918B/DS on Amazon, will it come with unlocked/unlockable bootloader?

You can root even if you don't have that. His question was rather if his bootloader can be unlocked, not if he can root the device.
