[Q] swype comm rom - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know what version of swype the community rom uses but i don't like it. I like the ED01 swype simply because its multi-touch but when I install it i get force closes. can someone help?

First change the keyboard you are using to another besides swype. You do this by opening a text entry field and then longpressing the screen in that field then select input method and pick another keyboard. If you don't have another download a free one from the market.
Then delete swype from the system/app folder. Paste the other apk you have of swype into that same folder.
After that you may or may not have to restart.

I'd love to do that but when I tried with root explorer it kept saying its read only

... then press the button on the top right to turn that off....

hey that worked thanks... but now its force closing just like it was in my op

What worked for me, back in Beta Swype, was to Delete the Swype APK from the App folder and the Swype core from the Lib file(i think that's were it was)
then do a fresh install...then reboot and i was all good

I think that might be the problem. The comm rom might be using that version of swype. I want the one that came with the ED01 so basically I need to do the opposite of what you did

+1, just traded my DX for the Fascinate and the multi-touch keyboard is the one thing I'm missing most.
Check out http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7454495.
I have the Droid X multitouch keyboard on my Fascinate and have had zero problems with it. =)
I just did this as well; it works like a dream!
I used the q-ime.apk as recommended by Androidious and moved it into the /system/app folder using Root Explorer. After that, just long press in a text field, select the "Input Method" radio button (if applicable), and select the "Multi-Touch Keyboard" radio button from the options.

hmm it's not pasting into /system/app in root explorer for some reason. anyone else running into this issue?
*EDIT*
nm, just had to reboot
Another note for anyone else installing this: this is just the multi touch keyboard. The magnifying glass is NOT part of the apk. At least, for me that's how it is.
ok, im sucha noob.
How do i get this kb to work on my fascinate? i have astro file manager and i have no idea how to use it or to get the kb to work... let alone install. any help?
You will need root access to move the kb to the system/app folder. Root your phone and get root explorer, you need root explorer to move things into the system/app folder
Do those make the maginify bubble work?

[Q] Change keyboard on a rom...

Okay, I'm fairly new around here, I haven't really posted anything, but i've been checking up on stuff for my phone and everything, I just have one question. I have the rom Nonsensikal. How can I get the keyboard from KaosFroyo V36 onto my Nonsensikal rom?
I know there is a few threads, but I would like to hear it again on this one, I would also like to change the keyboard. I know your supposed to download the keyboard you want, and on most 2.1 roms you have to change the keyboard apk to lLatinIME.apk i believe
Yeah, I'm just not sure how to go about downloading the one I want? Or, even putting it on my rom?
it really depends on what keyboard...if your are just adding one like swype or any other keyboard from the market you just install it like any other app and then go in settings/keyboard and check the box to enable it. Then long press on a text input area such as an email or any where you would type and it will bring up an option for input method where you can choose the keyboard you want to use. If you want to use the droidx keyboard or another "hacked keyboard" then there should be instructions in the thread where you get it for installing it.

Okay, Maybe you can help me out here then. Which keyboard is used in KaosFoyo V36? because that's the keyboard I want. and when I looked at the droidX keyboard. all it says is push it to "location" but how do I do that?

about 4 posts down, there is a flashable .zip you can use rom manager to flash. Once your phone boots back up, long press in the box you type, and select multi-touch for the imput method.
droidx-signed.zip i beleive is the name of the file.
Further along in the post is a grey type version, though i have not been able to get that one to work, aborts install and FC's on my constantly.. so I am just sticking with the white one.

Frustrating HTC Sense 2.0 Pop-Up operations when using Swype.

I figured I would repost this as its own topic and contribute to XDA for once. Lol. Most of you may know this,
ATTENTION:
If your having problems with highlighting a word using swype, please read:
When using swype, you may make some mistakes if your a quick "swyper". Most are used to selecting a typing error by double tapping on a word and selecting a correction. But with the HTC Thunderbolt, this can get frustrating due to the HTC SENSE pop-up operations.
In order to avoid this and make corrections, swype your little heart out. When you spot an error, just tap once on that error, and press the Info/Swype button in the bottom left hand corner of the keyboard. When the corrections pop up, make your selection and continue swyping.
-g0ldt00thgr1n. :} Merry Swyping!
P.S. Swype beta does not auto-space on the HTC THUNDERBOLT stock messaging app. If you would like a fix, I will edit this post when I grab Bad4u's thread link for his working themed Swype.apk files.
EDIT: Here is the link to working themed swype. All credit to OP.

Removing sense 3.0 lockscreen shortcuts?

I've searched xda and couldn't find anything and I don't know if this is the right area for this, but Is it possible to remove the shortcuts from the sense 3.0 lockscreen? I like the lockscreen because it takes up so little space but the shortcuts can be an eye sore imo. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

These are the reason why I don't like the new sense lock screen, those shortcuts are horrendous.
I did some more searching and found an apk for it. I can't post links yet I don't think but search the thread title basically. Install with root explorer change permissions and reboot. Looks good!

Thanks!
Still getting the empty bubbles, though..
If you can hold out a bit longer, it appears Sense 3.5 has the option to disable the shortcuts on the lock screen.
If you want to check it out, search Bamf soab. (port of Bliss with sense 3.5)
I got it!
- Extract Idlescreen_Base.apk from /System/App
- Open the file in m10editor.exe
- decompile Lockscreen_shortcut.m10
- in the editor tab expand the last item and you'll see Lockscreen_Shortcut, highlight it and under Known Properties set parameter Visible = 0.
- save the file
- sign the .apk and put it somewhere on your SD-card
Open /system/app with Root Explorer or ES File Explorer, delete the Idlescreen_base.apk
Install YOUR Idlescreen_base.apk with your file explorer and restart your phone.
Voila!
(Creds to dased14 here )
EDIT: Guess you could bake it in your ROM-file and flash the ROM..Never tried it though..
EDIT2: You may have to copy your modded .apk to /system/app after you've installed it.

Simple question about keyboards

How exactly do I delete the user dictionary for swype because my keyboard is completely fudged up
SneakySnake16 Proud Noob to XDA
Im on stock froyo by the way
SneakySnake16 Proud Noob to XDA
check inside your settings - Language & input, and see if you can delete any words you placed within there.
if rooted, you can download titanium backup. back up swype. then re_install app only
Ah, no... better not do that, Swype keeps annoying credentials, you'll need to rerun the installer that way anyways... The correct way, is to hold the Swype key, to get into the settings, than you'll see the dictionary.
Keep in mind, Swype by default has some very asinine "words" that cannot be deleted.
Well the Language & Keyboard way works too, but remember to hit Swype settings there, the regular dictionary is for the stock keyboard.
I have no dictionary option in any of those methods though
