[Q] Even More Plus Plan - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This question is for anyone on the Even More Plus plan (non-contract plan) with T-Mobile. I gave T-Mobile a call today and a representative told me that I can upgrade my phone with a 2 year contract even though I'm on the Even more Plus plan. I think they're doing this because T-Mobile took away the non-contract plans. If you look on the T-Mobile website, you can no longer sign up for the Even More Plus plan if you're a new customer, you have to pay the contract plan prices which are higher.
My question is, has anyone tried upgrading their phone with the Even More Plus plan (non-contract plan)?

AFAIK, T-Mobile removed the EM+ plan option from the website months ago to prevent customer confusion (or some crap reason like that). New customers can still get onto EM+ over the phone and by going into the T-Mobile shops.
Also, I do not think you can get upgrades while on EM+ since it requires you to actually buy a phone unsubsidized (full price). The only way I could explain why the rep would've told you that would be if they though you were swapping from EM+ to EM. If you were on the normal EM plan, then you should be able to get upgrades and discounts on newer phones after a certain amount of time.

If you use an upgrade/discount to purchase a new phone you will *always* be put back under a 2 year contract rate plan. With EM+ you *always* pay full price for the device (and EM+ plans have not been taken away... yet.)

The T-Mobile representative was ready to give me an upgrade, she was on my account reading my upgrade prices. She said I can't upgrade online because of my plan, but she said I can upgrade through the phone or at a store. It didn't require me to switch to a contract plan. When I migrated to non-contract plan, they said I can't switch back if I wanted to. Not sure about this yet so I will go to a store today to confirm.

You can still upgrade but you have to pay the full price for the device, and all theyre doing is swapping your sim, they took away upgrades on EM+ in november when they took my $300.00 in upgrade credit back

I'm on the EM+ plan, and she said my price for the g2x and mytouch is only $217. She was on my account looking at the prices. I know the full price of the g2x is $499, not $217.

Pretty sure non contract plans are still available might have to go to the store and talk to a rep
and if not you cant call customer server and ask for android preferred internet for $20 doesn't matter how long you have had plan

Sound like she was giving you the subsidized price you would pay out of pocket. The rest will be on your bill split between 19 months.
That comes out to roughly $15 per month extra on your bill. Sounds about right.

Do not upgrade via net or phone!

I have been an AT&T customer for 9 years now and still have my original voice plan which has since been replaced by more expensive plans. I initially tried to upgrade from my iphone 3s to the SG2 via the internet but I could not get the $199 price. I called into Small Business Support (my account is linked to my company's so I get a discount on my monthly bill). AT&T support said that my voice plan was so obsoleted so I would have to upgrade to a current plan. However, to even get close to the minutes I have, I would have to pay about $25 more a month. On top of that, I would lose my true unlimited data plan I had with my iphone 3gs. I told the rep I have a been a customer for 9 years, yada, yada but they would not budge.
Feeling pretty mad about the situation I walked into an AT&T store, chatted up some young kid, got my $199 upgrade, kept my voice and data plan.
Moral to the story, do not upgrade over the net or phone. The folks on the phone are trained to read from a script and not deviate at all. It may be less convenient, but go into a store, talk to someone. I have found people at the stores are almost always willing to "pull some strings" and work with you.

Call again. You are grand fathered in for unlimited data. They have to let you keep your rate plan and unlimited data.

I called 3 times, talked to 5 different people...wasted over an hour and got no where. Walked into a store and walked out 15 min later with my SG2 and my grandfathered voice and data plan.
I had a similar experence......I had a HTC Inspire, and damaged it. So I needed a new phone. I called AT&T but they said I had to pay full price reguardless if I wanted to resign or not. Now keep in mind I am not up for a upgrade so I figured that was fair.
I couldnt wait for the phone to come in the mail and being I was paying full price I may as well go to the local store. I went to my local AT&T, and the guy there hooked me up with the upgrade price.
So I was able to get a better deal by walking into the local store even after I was told "no sir, sorry you have to pay full retail price. There is nothing we can do"

Well luckily your area carries the phone, my captivate died on me with endless rebooting and I broke the digitizer by dropping it *first and only drop in 15 months* and I contacted att's fb page about seeing if the insurance deductible was dropping down from $ 125, as well as I asked about why should I pay for their branded sgs 2 when for $ 10 more I could get an unlocked international sgs 2. A csr called me back with in an hour and gave me an early upgrade with out having to pay full price. The only issue I had to order the phone from the store but I still get to keep my data and text plan *have family text and unlimited calling to any mobile*. $ 242 out the door but I am still with out a phone because the local stores do not carry the sgs 2 in my area. Moral of the story, is be nice and literally att will bend over backwards for their customers because they could have told me spend $ 550 or good luck lol..

LOL! I thought the same thing so I checked my account a few days later..luckily nothing changed.
Even worse, I WORKED for AT&T for years. I had an Employee Plan(No contract,) and when I went to switch to my captivate a year ago, they booted me from the plan. I raised hell, and settled on being in a contract, at full price, then asked them to grandfather in my unlimited data from the employee plan.
They said they don't have a record of me ever being a customer before I started my last contract, even though I worked for AT&T, and paid them monthly, for over two years.

I've seen lots of unscrupulous dealers pull the same #(%#.. Only interested in the sale.
Mall kiosks are the worst, super high turnover and will lie to you about anything to get your signature on the dotted line... Waived activation fees, imaginary discounts, etc.
I have had a few customers who have come to me, I've let them know about the changes required (smartphone = required data plan). They were upset, so they went to a kiosk, where they were 'promised' that nothing would change, waived act. fees, etc.. Then wanna come yelling at me why their bill went from 120$ for 4 phones, to over $180..
I've never had problems with my local corporate store. I've known for a long time to avoid kiosks - ALWAYS go to a corporate-owned store.
When I got my Infuse, I was upgraded to the 4G unlimited plan. Grandfathered right in, didn't even need to ask, was told, "You won't lose your unlimited data" and I didn't.

Q1: if you mean you buy it, and you're not on AT&T at all, of coarse mobile data won't work...you won't have a service contract.... If you man just buying it out right, as am early upgrade while you're on AT&T, then yes it'll work. You'd most likely need to get an lte Sim card.
The price on contract, which means upgrading your phone and signing for a new contact, or a brand new customer is 300... Off contract, meaning no discount at all from AT&T is 700.
No you can't cancel your contract and return the phone for more than you paid for it. And in fact you will be charged an early termination fee for canceling the contact. So you'd lose money.
AT&T has been around the block more than a couple times.... You really think you could pull one over on them so easily?
Warranty is from Samsung, not AT&T and is included with the purchase of the device.
The reason people buy off contract is to not be locked into a provider. You can still have mobile data plan set up and pay on it each month, you're just not forced to pay them for 2 years and can cancel any time you wish.
If you don't have a mobile data plan through them your mobile data will not work.

If you've had the phone longer than 3 days cannot break the contact without paying the $250-350 fee it costs to do so.
If you've had it less than 3 days, you can break the contract without charge but you will still have to pay the balance of the phone (if you paid the reduced price of $300)
If you're not on contract, you can still use AT&T 4G service.

my phone is in contract with them, and one of my friends told me go break your contract and get like $100 from them cuz the phone without contract is about $700 and with contract is $800, so if I break the contract they will give me back $100!!

and for the warranty, the seller told me to buy a warranty but I told him I don't need it, and there were no warranty in the bx by Samsung! How can I get a warranty?

Incorrect. It is 30 days to break the contract without the $325 termination fee. The 3 days you may be thinking about is to not get charged the activation/upgrade fee

Att.com shows pricing as 299.99 on contract, 649.99 off contract.
I decided to by one off contract for 475 shipped on eBay. I'm not up for early renewal until July and couldn't wait. I didn't want to "waste" my upgrade on a near 6 month old phone by that time.
You will not make any money off ATT, so don't try.
Without contract means no service unless you have existing service.
Btw, can I walk into the att store and just request an LTE sim? My current sim is only H+ enabled

Yes, and you can keep the unlimited plan if you have it.
yesterday I canceled my contract and my phone (everything)
they gave me the phone and the screen protector price immediately to my depit card and they told me I'll recieve the deposit cost in my mail withen 4-6 weeks ! :/
Now I'm thinking between buying the same phone ($660 with 2 years warranty from SquareTradeus) or waiting for new phone!!
What do you think?!

As usual, its always a nightmare dealing with their customer service. It took nearly 45 minutes of the ATT store manager being on the phone with them...and they still couldn't change my account to LTE unlimited. They ended up hanging up and stating they would work on it and call me back...which was true.
But i truly wish i could blow up ATT customer service.

erick161, as much as I agree with you, you might want to redact that last statement. threats online are taken even more seriously than in person from my experience.
OP, I think what you friend was trying to tell you is that you buy the phone on contract, you cancel the service and pay the termination fee and the cost of the phone and ETF was less than buying the phone at full price. Which was true in the beginning, but now the phone is cheaper and not really going to save/make you money.
If you already have AT&T then I'd say get the phone on contract or not. for the first time in almost 10 years I'm locked into a contract again, not too worried about it because i haven't left AT&T yet and don't plan to. if you aren't an AT&T customer, there's a company that resells AT&T network service for $45 a month unlimited everything, just no 4G or LTE. You could buy the phone and jump on that service.
Lastly if you didn't buy the phone for the size, the HTC One is coming out in the next few months, you might want to check that out, though if I recall for AT&T they're getting rid of the quad core because it isn't compatible with LTE, but that's what i recall and 100% ingrained in truth.

You say the price with contract is $800. It's not, it's $300. So if you break contract, you will pay more for a phone, not less, but you can still get data if you are already with AT&T. Just go in, and add the phone to your line, and have them upgrade the sim. They charge like $36 for that now.

What model of Note is this? Sounds like one of the international ones to me. the AT&T one would not come with a HSPA+ only SIM I believe. If it is not an i717, then it probably has the Xenos(sp?) chipset, and not the Qualcomm one, and is NOT an LTE phone. Also, if it is an LTE phone, you may, or may not be in an area with LTE service.

End of Era. Verizon Unlimited = new phone?

Called Verizon and they told me that the unlimited plan i'm on is guaranteed as long as I'm on a contract. Once under contract, if they change the plan that drastically, you can get out of the plan. I will be off my existing contract in a few weeks. 2 different CS reps said that the month to month plans will not be changed but cannot be guaranteed to stay that way and is very likely to convert to new plans by end of year or early next year.
She recommended just getting a new phone if I wanted to just make sure. I told her I like my phone and really didn't want a new phone or contract. She said that all the other carriers already have plans to implement similar packages so if i wanted to guarantee an unlimited rate, i would have to buy a new phone by the 28th (or pre-order the S3) or just take the risk.
I'm leaning towards the S3 even though i hated my fascinate and droid charge. I wish there was a way around it, but i use 6 gigs a month. I flash roms which reload all my apps, i stream music like crazy while at work and share data with my ipad.
Anyone know if this is true? If getting a contract guarantees me 2 more years of unlimited LTE, i will do it. I guess i could get the razr maxx too.
any reccomendations between the 2?

When I talked to Verizon before getting my RAZR. They said the only way your plan will change, is if you upgrade after the tiered plans take affect. As long as you stayed with your old phone, or payed full retail, you would keep your old plan whatever it may be.

Or, as in my case, get your phone outside of Verizon. Then, it's not a contract renewal, it's an activation only since I didn't purchase the phone upgrade through them. I guess it's the same as purchasing it at full retail (unless you get it via ebay or as a trade from someone else). I didn't purchase my through Verizon so I got to keep my unlimited data and it will stay that way until they pry it from my cold, dead hands!

Unless you do an upgrade via Verizon and don't pay full retail price. Basically, you are renewing your contract when you do the upgrade through Verizon. Then, at that point, you are beholden to Verizon to switch to the tiered pricing.
Otherwise, pay full retail price for the phone or get it from someone else that isn't connected with Verizon and then activate it on Verizon, you get to keep your unlimited data plan. I got my phone outside of Verizon so I didn't have to switch to the tiered plan.

I'd call again, maybe ask a supervisor? I've been told at least 3 times that as long as you had service during the "unlimited" era that you would be considered "grandfathered" which means it would stay that way as long as you don't leave and come back and it's still on that same line. You can change the phone number, but if you leave for a period of time by canceling a contract prematurely OR leaving because it's over and try to come back, THEN you would no longer be considered "grandfathered" and would be at the mercy of the new plans. Even if you stay month to month AFTER the contract instead of renewing it, you would still be grandfathered as long as you didn't let the service on that line come to an actual complete end. I used my upgrade on the Razr just in the beginning of April and still have my "unlimited" data.
I left and came back and lost my unlimited. I'm very sad panda. Do everything u can to ensure u keep it even if means stuck on same phone!

I am doing what i can. Basically what i'm hearing from Verizon is that the grandfathering is only going to last till the end of the year and because you're not on a contract is not guaranteed. The only certain thing is they will not convert you next week. But that amount of time is VERY limited, perhaps 6 months before they pull that grandfathering.
Only through a new binding contract will they honor the unlimited rate. So if i get a new phone from them now, i get 2 years vs 6 months. For me at 6gigs a month the difference is $69 currently vs $135 on tiered. 18 extra months on unlimited if i get a contract will save me $1800.
Again, i know it's not a sure thing, but i'm just trying to find out how likely they are to end the grandfathering in 6 months. Even a little likely is too likely for me.

What they mean by taking it away is that they won't honor it any more WHEN you do an upgrade of your phone through Verizon.
There are a number of ways to keep your unlimited data plan:
When it's time to upgrade your phone, purchase the phone at full retail price.
Purchase your phone via a 3rd party and take the phone to Verizon to activate it.
Stay on your current phone.
What it all boils down to is, do NOT renew your contract. Let it expire and stay on the month-to-month contract. Anything that makes you renew your contract to a new 2-year contract with Verizon WILL make you lose your unlimited data.
Since I purchased my RAZR outside of Verizon, I didn't renew my contract with Verizon, hence I kept my unlimited data and will continue to do so until I decide to take a subsidized upgrade through Verizon or leave them and come back at a later time. Otherwise, I will keep my unlimited data plan for as long as I please.
In the end, it IS cheaper in the long run to purchase the phone at full retail price because you'll pay MORE for it through the extra costs of the tiered data plan and the two-year binding contract.

Just for your guys info verizon does a double data deal every once in a while, in march i got my razr for a penny and got the 5gb plan that got doubled to 10gb... im a heavy user and i keep it under 10gb a month.. if you need more either your really taking advantage by tethering your whole house or doing something illegal...and if u are tethering ur whole house on unlimited lte ur definitely screwing us all over lol but more power to ya....

Listen, folks. If you are on a 2-year contract, once the two years is up, so is the contract. You do not have a contract. You do not have a "legally binding agreement" to hang over anyone's head.

I kept my unlimited data and plan from Alltel until I upgraded into my bionic and added my wife to my account. My upgrade into my OG DROID, and DROIDX didn't have to change out of my Alltel plan. Not sure where you got your info from.

Anyone know if this is true? If getting a contract guarantees me 2 more years of unlimited LTE, i will do it. I guess i could get the razr maxx too.

You could always buy a new phone and turn around and sell it on eBay if you want to stay on your current phone. If you are on contract then you keep your service as-is. If they change your service (even by a few pennies or change the terms of your service) you can get out of the contract. That is a fact. I've done it.
That being said, I really like my Razr Maxx. It has had the best battery of any phone I've used so far (3 others... fascinate, charge and droid 4). It should be getting ICS in the next couple weeks, hopefully (maybe sooner).
The stock Launcher on the Razr Maxx blows. Use Go Launcher or anything else for more features / more customization to suit your needs.

After your 2 year contract is up, you are on a month-to-month PLAN... not contract. If they decide to take away something that you've had forever you can simply cancel your account.
It has been my experience that 9 times out of 10, talking to the cancellations department will get your XYZ reinstated that they tried to take away from you...but there is always that 10% chance that they follow through with it. Unlimited data may fall under that 10% chance pretty easily or not. Talking with your money and walking away does have power.

I would heed the warnings from the 2 CSR agents regarding so called month-to-month contracts. Once your contract expires, and you don't renew, there's no guarantee that you will be able to keep that unlimited data. VZW doesn't offer month-to-month contracts. Right now, they are saying that you will keep your unlimited data, but I wouldn't trust VZW. The 2 CSR's actually gave you a glimpse into what may be coming down the pipeline.
I would pre-order the SGSIII if your contract expires in July. At least lock up unlimited data for 2 more years. If you don't like it, I'm sure you could find someone willing to trade you a RAZR MAXX for it. Just swap your SIM card into the new phone, and your all done.

In the end, it IS cheaper in the long run to purchase the phone at full retail price because you'll pay MORE for it through the extra costs of the tiered data plan and the two-year binding contract.

Here is the quick run down. If you have unlimited data and upgrade after June 28th. You have to switch to tiered data pricing(2gb which is $30 or higher). If you have an upgrade now do it before June 28th! If you want to stick with unlimited and be grandfathered in the future. You have to either pay full retail price for the phone from verizon(which will have 1 year warranty) or buy phones from ebay, craigslist, swappa or other places which does not require any contract.

How long do I have to have service before I can cancel?

Hi, I have a question about canceling service with T-Mobile because they will not allow me to buy the HTC One without a plan online or over the phone and I want the specific T-mobile version. I know with AT&T you have to have service for over a month before you cancel without having to return the phone (well thats what the rule was 5 years ago as far as I'm aware when I got the iPhone 3G) Now that T-Mobile has phased out contracts altogether can I just go ahead and cancel the next day after the service is activated? I'll just pay the prorated plan price and the full price of the phone and then switch over to a prepaid plan.
I'm not sure but t-mobile customer service should be able to break it down for you. Their customer service is pretty amazing.

If you signed up for their new Value plans, you can cancel the next day. Because you are not tied to any more service contracts, the only obligation you have is the full balance of the phone. So once you pay off the phone, you are officially off-contract and the phone is yours (service optional). You're thinking of old Classic plans in which you need one month service before you get to keep the phone by paying the ETF. That doesn't exist anymore.
I'm sure T-Mobile has caught onto this and will change the way it works soon. I could see them doing something like charging $650 for the phone if you're a new customer then you get a credit after 30 days. Because technically the $579 is a discounted price for customers.

How do you figure that price? The unlocked 32 Gb on the HTC site was 579. Only the developer edition was 649. So it seems to me that TMO is selling them at retail.

Mobile Share Value Plans

Not sure if anyone really cares or not but I just knocked $105 off my AT&T Family plan bill with their new Mobile Share Value Plans.

This is a real deal if you have a large family plan like i do with 5 lines and all smartphones. I was able to lower my bill to $192 a month from $306 the previous month with one phone call. And even better we are getting 10gigs a month now vs the 6gigs i was on.
I know I'm going to take some heat for spamming the board but if one person saves some money I'll be happy

Ya, I saw those plans, heck, it's even worth it for just 2 lines and 10Gig, $100+$15+$15=$130. I am paying 70 for my single line and only 2gig of data. I know, everyone will tell me to go to a prepay, but I HAVE to have the microcell so I am stuck.

Unl plans are caped at 3 GB... Then u get the slowest speed...
10 GB = $100 + 15 per device
15 GB = $130 + 15 per device
Completely worth it. Now if you do an upgrade after moving to the plan instead of paying 15 for that line you will pay 40... they are trying to cope somehow how T-Mobile works.

I went ahead and jumped on this. I had to give up 1 unlimited (LTE) data plan, which was throttled after 5GBs anyway. I think it's worth it to save $90/month.
We went to the value plan. Only two lines, so no massive savings. Went to from 6 to 10 GB for $10 cheaper
I was under the impression that once you switched to one of these plans, you no longer would get subsidized phone upgrades. Correct? In other words, the next time you want to upgrade you basically are on the AT&T Next setup (full unsubsidized price of phone broken out over x payments)

This is correct. Also, if you have currently been in contract for 6 months, they will allow a switch to AT&T Next. I feel it will not be long before they completely go to this method, especially with T-Mobile and others doing much the same.
Ive held on to my 2 line unlimited everything plan for years, paying about $185 before taxes and fees. I think it makes sense to go for this new plan, which drops the price down to $150 while sharing 10gigs. i've only ever gone over 3gigs in a month two times.

Okay, so if that is the case, it seems like you will only save money if you do not intend to take advantage of subsidized upgrades in the future (assuming still available).

From a purely monetary standpoint, yes - however, when you compare the data that you receive (10 GB vs 4/6GB), you are still saving money if you use that much data. But without taking advantage of the subsidized upgrades, you would most likely even out.

My understanding from the AT&T rep (and my bill) is that each smartphone in the value plans are now $40 per month with a $25 monthly credit, so net $15.
If I upgrade using a Next plan, the $25 credit remains. (Next = a 0% interest loan to purchase the phone over 20 months.)
If I upgrade using a 2-year subsidy, the $25 credit is removed. (Making for a really expensive upgrade-- 24 * $25 + $200 up front = $800 for an iPhone 5S that I could purchase outright for $650.) Not that I'd purchase a 5S, but just an example of how an already overpriced phone just got even more expensive.
Basically, they really do not want people buying subsidized phones, and that's fine with me. I'd rather purchase the phone I want on my own timing and pay for it outright.
Up until the value plans it made sense to do 2-year upgrades because AT&T was already padding their rate plans with the subsidy cost, whether you upgraded or BYOP you paid for it.
Now, it makes more sense to just BYOP.
Yes you have to stay on the next plan, ability to get a new phone yearly or 18 months, to keep the $15/month. I also saved 50% on my phone bill.

This is good news, I was worried that when i upgraded with NEXT it would go from $15 to $40. I guess I should have read into it a little more, but yeah, my family is saving close to $100 since we switched to the value plan.
Love this plan. Switched to it immediately.
The Next program is basically a phone leasing program. So if you pay $30/month for Next18, that $540 is gone when you trade in for the new one. It would be cheaper buying the phone out right then sell it when you wanted to get a new one.

Upgrades?
I changed to the shared plan two months ago, losing my useless unlimited plan. I moved 5 phones. Two of them were eligible for upgrades at the time, but I was holding them for when I really wanted them. I need one now. I went to the ATT website and checked upgrade-ability. The two phones seem like they have subsidized plans available to them. I can also do the Next plan for any of my phones for the same price. So I can pay zero interest for 20 months, have no plan commitment, and pay in full for my daughter's new iphone over 20 months, or I can pay $199 for the phone, a one-time $36 upgrade fee, and commit for another two years of my shared plan. There is no change to the basic rate.
