[Q] Ordering from a UK retailer , but in PAYMENTS - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there any UK retailer that could sell the sgs2 but in payments? I cant pay for the whole thing... it means paying lets say like for example 50 pound per month..
is there any retailer that might do that or accept such kind of payment? =/
please help me out as I really wanna switch from this Omnia HD of mine..
thanks in advance
P.S
I live in Israel and not in the UK, if that will change anything...

none..?

I'm not trying sound sarcastic, but would they not let you order with a credit card? Paying that off in installments.

huh? what do you mean?
I meant credit card, but in payments.. like paying 50 pound per month instead of the whole 440 pounds in 1 hit (1 month)

Last time I looked that's kinda how credit cards work, you buy it in one go and pay the card off as you can afford it.

weird because I'm always getting charged in 1 hit.. no matter how big the charge is..

Well of course you're going to get charged the interest on the full amount, but it's up to you pay down the capital. Even if you did find a UK supplier with a credit agreement, it would be the same and probably cost more. You won't get instalments.

I think the OP is referring to a hire purchase agreement? rather than the entire amount being charged to his credit card in one hit, and then making monthly payments to credit card company. At least, thats my take anyway. If I'm right, then I think he is out of luck, as most hire purchase agreements require some sort of credit check?

No idea how credit cards work in the UK but in Austria you get a monthly statement, to be paid immediately and in full, while in the US they seem to work more like giros.
But anyway, OP, if you can't afford the phone don't buy it. Consumer loans for something that isn't an investment (own flat / house, maybe a car) are a really bad idea.

Yeah that's what I was referring to, a credit agreement where they split the cost of the item and include interest. So a fixed amount each month until term, but even if he could find one it would cost a bomb and not for an overseas buyer.

Yep, it's even debited automatically from a regular bank account / giro, so it's only a credit card insofar as you only have to pay once per month. My point was, what a credit card actually is differs a lot, usually on a country-by-country basis.

Now that would make you think twice about buying. It's all too easy over here to have a dozen cards maxed to the limit and just pay minimum balances of a few quid. Not only that, they're always increasing the credit limit. One card I've had a small balance on, only a few hundred on and off has a limit of over £20K. Never asked for it.

just order the O2 50 min deal cancel data bolt on after a month, and then pay 10.50 p/m over 24 mnths, interest free no hassle

Thinking of switching to Verizon - credit check question

If I buy a Thunderbolt off contract and pay full price, will I need to have a credit check? Normally I wouldnt care I have top tier credit, however, I just took how a huge car loan for a new car and I dont have confidence in that nor do I want it hit again. So will the check credit if im moving over from AT&T and porting my number?
Thanks
Not sure as I haven't had them check me for a while, but I'm pretty sure that whenever you get a contract with them for service, they'll check you regardless.

Wouldnt be signing a contract if I bought the phone outright though. You only sign a 2 year contract when they subsidize it.
Russ is correct, if you're signing up for POST paid service (ie., you pay a bill for last month's usage) they are definitely going to credit check you. I opened a new VZW account yesterday (but subsidizes the phone) and they took my social number and waited a few seconds for approval.
I don't think inquiries like the phone company are going to be a negative impact on your credit score, especially if you have "excellent credit" ratings already.
VZW will check your credit for a new account on contract. They will also try to run your credit even if you're going to buy the phone outright. It wont affect anything in that case, however, and they don't actually need your SSN. They can go without it, but the system will ask them for it to start a new account.
@distortedloop: VZW actually bills a month in advanced, even on a contract. To clarify, your monthly access(I.e. plan) will be charged a month in advanced but any charges from overage will be from the month before.

Well my concern is that I wont pass the credit check being that I just took out a big car loan. My credit was top notch BEFORE taking the large loan, so now it might be futile to try to switch. I hate AT&T bottom line lol...

VZW deposits are $125 and $400 at the most respectively and you get them back after the first 12monthes with 3% interest.
My recommendation to you is to go to a store and find out for sure if you'll have a deposit. Running a credit check wont disconnect your AT&T service or anything.

Okay, but interesting that I didn't have to pay a month in advance when I opened an account yesterday. (Edit: No deposit required either...I walked out the door for price of phone and taxes (and activation fee I think) only.)
Does this mean I'll get a bill for two months' service next month?

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: not really and your sales rep should have explained. Your first bill will be higher than all the others. You'll be prorated for whatever's left before the end of your billing cycle. So if your billing cycle ends on the 15th, and you activate on the 10, your first bill will be 1month+5 days prorated. Billing cycles are randomly assigned by the system and don't necessarily correspond to when you activate. Hope I explained that adequately.
edit: one of your reciepts should give you more info and exact numbers. Btw, nice to see a familiar name from the Nexus S forums.

I'm not trying to rain on Anyone s parade but if you just simply buy the phone outright they will not check your credit. However, to get the service on the phone there will be some type of credit check
Those who have to worry about passing a credit check in order to get a phone should simply rethink their priorities.
Should they buy a brand new device for over $400 or put that money towards paying off debt and increasing their credit score (and reducing their debt). Not to mention, they will need to purchase an expensive data plan to go along with the phone.
I am not trying to preach. But people should really think about their priorities.
When I originally had Verizon, about 3 years ago, I provided my own phone; they still ran credit to provide service. They're essentially loaning you the bandwidth usage, which you pay for at the end of each month. Whether you own the hardware or not is a moot point, it's the network and you paying to use it that's their concern.

Just because you took out a loan doesn't lower your credit score by a significant amount. Taking out a loan and not paying it will lower your score. If you were to try and get another loan your score still wouldn't go down, but if you debt to credit ratio was too high it would limit the amount of the new loan and or interest rate. Verizon is simply looking to see if you pay your stuff on time or have you slacked off. Not how much total debt you have.

Ditto on the familiar face comment.
And yes, what you're saying makes sense, and actually as I think about, I'm pretty sure in the back of my head I knew that; it certainly sounds familiar with prior phone contracts. (I've been off contract on AT&T and T-Mobile for quite some time.) For me, it won't be much larger a first bill, since my new billing cycle starts 3/20/11.
Probably not the right place to discuss, but what are your thoughts on the NS vs the TB? Service (voice and data) on the TB much better than TMo, but I much prefer (so far) the weight, shape, feel, and of course the SAMOLED display of the NS. Not sure which will end up my daily driver. If only I could have an NS with VZW 4G/LTE...
my credit is ver very ver bad.. way below average but i was shocked that i got approved for $0 deposit.. couldnt be any happier!!
I had pretty terrible credit (score of 550 something) when I signed up with Verizon and I had to pay a $130something deposit which was refunded to me after 12 months of paying my bill on time.
And some people need a phone despite having bad credit.
My credit was apparently still great
Thanks.

Yar, probably not the best place, but whatevs. And +over9000 to the voice/data service on the Thunderbolt. Definitely better than TMo in my area. LTE is really quite something. I was hitting 8-14.38mbs all over Dallas today.
I miss the weight and the shape of the NS, but I don't miss the build materials. It's not so much that I dislike them because the phone "felt cheap" as much as I felt like they attracted every strand of every hair of every thread of everything! And whatever did get on the device stuck to it like a magnet. The Fascinate I switched to after coming to VZW had the same phenomenon. Haha.
As for the display, I'm very impressed with the Thunderbolt's. Normally a large(r) phone goes cheap on the display(looking at you Droid X, Evo, MT4G, etc.), but the colors are very crisp, clear, and vibrant. I don't know if the NS just had a much better SAMOLED, or what, but I was pretty disappointed with the Fascinate's and definitely prefer the TB's over it.

Ontopic: If he buys the phone outright and goes Month-to-Month, they will still try to run his credit but it won't affect anything. It's not even really required. The rep could activate him under the name Mickey Mouse SSN#123456789 if they wanted to. The system just requires that the rep hit the run credit button.
Taking a car loan does not hurt your credit, if you credit was top notch and you took out a car loan it does not make your credit bad and your credit score does not go down that much. Yes if you dont make a payment on that loan and it goes late on your credit history then you are in trouble. Taking out a car loan and paying it on time actually makes your credit better and makes the creditors think that you are more responsible.
Trust me my dad used to be a big gun and had 3 mercedes and one was nearly 150k and two were around 80k and also had a cadillac. Trust me his credit was epic, but sadly economic meltdown literally took everything away from him, even his savings.
your first car loan is actually really good for your credit.

Bought an EVO 3D, but...

Have you tried calling them and asking what all the fees are about? The retention center # is somewhere floating around here, I hear they are very helpful

Sprint is already trying to screw me by removing a save50 invoice credit, and they are charging me $10 more per month (not taxes) then what it said on my original receipt. I hate to have to return the evo 3d because I like it, but Sprint has a bad reputation of screwing over their customers on the invoice credits. I don't know whether to sue them for cancelling my original order and making me a new order without my approval, or to just cancel it and return the phone.

It is always funny that if a company makes a mistake like this, the first thing people like the OP think about is suing the company. Over what? What phone did you come from? Was it a smart phone? A Razr? All you have to do is call them and explain what the deal is and they will 99% of the time fix it for you.
".....they are charging me $10 more per month (not taxes) then what it said on my original receipt."
In regards to the $10/month, are you referring to the monthly Premium Data fee? It's required on the EVO3D (and on other 4G phones), even if you are on SERO. It may not show on the receipt when you buy the phone but will appear on your monthly statement. Did you get it at a store, online or telesales? I called in my order and they stated very clearly that this phone requires the added monthly fee and exactly how much it was. With online purchasing, it warns you with a checkbox confirmation about the add on monthly reoccurring fee and will not let you proceed to order it without being ok'd by you.
If you enjoy the phone as much as I do then IMO it's worth the extra $10. If you think it's too much, you have 30 days to return it.

this is america dude, we sue over everything D:
The $10 fee is for all smart phones not just 4g ones. The only smart phone that does not require the $10 fee is the Samsung Replenish Android phone.
lol @ trying to sue sprint over an invoicing issue. Lol. Theyll murder you in court.
But in all seriousness, yes all sprint smartphones have the $10 fee except for one. Still comes out cheaper than other carriers data charges. In fact much cheaper and much better value imo
Dude I have just been trying to get the $50 invoice credit that was on my original order, and I've been getting the run-around for two weeks. I understand the $10 fee, even though it wasn't on my original order. But cancelling my order and making a new order without the credit and without notifying me seems shady. Before this I had my Droid X that I flashed to cricket. It's not 4G but it was cheap and reliable. With the phone rooted and optimized, it was pretty quick. I'm on a fixed income, so I can't pay more than $70 per month. When I thought I could get the EVO 3d for $60 per month, I decided to go for it. It just seems deceiving when my invoice says that I will be paying $60 per month plus taxes, then they say it will be $90 per month when I talked to them on the phone. That's a significant difference.

take it back it then, I don't think anyone is paying that low of a monthly cost for the 3d.
OP, create a aol email account. Sprint gives you a %10 discount if you have an aol email account. That would take your bill to about $73. Good luck

"It just seems deceiving when my invoice says that I will be paying $60 per month plus taxes, then they say it will be $90 per month when I talked to them on the phone. That's a significant difference."
Although you've made a significant edit to your original post, there's something still not right with your math. You first stated it was higher than you expected at a extra $10/month, then edited to $15, but you say it's now a $30 difference(from the $60 you thought you would be charged per month to $90 that you now claim).
Just tell them you work for your local school district. That's a 15 percent discount.

Method of payment? Credit Card or Debit Card?
Have you called customer service and if so what did they say?
I did read somewhere someone said their order was cancelled, however, he paid by Debit Card and there was some issue.

In Canada they don't accept debit visas online and I got an email telling me to provide them with an alternative method of payment within 5 days or my order will be cancelled.

wow, this thread went off topic pretty fast.
amex is different in that some of their cards don't have a set limit, but that doesn't mean you can spend outrageous amounts of money whenever and however you want with them just approving everything.
my business card with them is that way, but if i try to pay for a house with my credit card, it's not going to go through.
Actually I think Amex Black does not have a limit but it is rarely issued. Yes you can buy a jet with it.

The Centurion card from Amex is by invitation only and has an annual fee of $2,500 and a one time initiation fee of $5K. It has a limit because a friend of mine hit it charging a chartered wide-body for business in an emergency. It was approved with a phone call but it shows there's a limit. Amex is "no preset spending limit," not "no limit."

Wallet prepaid monthly maintenance fee!

I was reading through the user agreement and the bank that administers the prepaid google wallet card charges a monthly maintenance fee of $2 per month and the card expires after 5 years. Just a heads up for those that may be unaware. Make sure you use that initial $10 or it may slowly deplete.
I would think google would make this a free service to entice users and get more merchants on board. I can see people getting turned off by the fees. Also, I believe the minimum amount to add to the prepaid google card is $20. I guess one good way to use up the last remaining money would be to prepay for gas in the exact amount left on the card in order to use it all up.

Not shocking most banks charge a fee and seeing how the bank is citi bank that's not shocking at all

No, only when they have to keep track of your money in the account and it goes unused for 6 months.
I actually like using mine. I already put $100 on mine to keep as emergency since I forget my wallet sometimes when I'm heading out to the flying field
Sounds like a gift card. They dont want to track 50 million $10 balances forever so after a while they just charge you a small fee to make it go away eventually.
It's a little confusing. I guess time will tell. I don't know why they can't be clearer in their legal jargon! I think they make things as vague as possible so they can argue any angle!

Sounds to me that the fee only aplies if you haven't used the card in more than 6 months. Just use it every now and then and there is no fee.

i understand the fee for inactivity. The annoying part is that fee doesn't show up in the transaction history. If you don't know what your balance was, there is no notification that you were charged anything at all.

DNA at Walmart for $139 ($239 with $100 gift card) - in stock soon hopefully

I was so excited when I saw this I ordered 2 right away.

I didn't notice until after the fact that it was not available in stock yet but this is the best deal I've seen so I'm willing to wait a little and see how it goes. I was also concerned I would not get the gift card if my purchase was not completed before December 1st but I talked to a customer service rep and they confirmed I would receive the gift card based on the order date not the ship date. They also said they estimated they would receive it in stock today which was a surprise. Sounds too good to be true but fingers crossed. So hopefully this is a good deal and I will get my phones shipped shortly.

Their website ordering is odd though. The pricing is hokey, looks different than Verizon. Did VZ contact you after the order to confirm pricing?
In particular Walmart has 2G data pack for $45 where its $60 on VZ...and Walmart only shows text package of $10 /1000 texts....aren't the new VZ plans including unlimited talk and text?

Well...that doesn't seem like a good deal after all...the $100 gift card you get is only limited to purchases within Walmart; whereas if you buy the DNA with a $20 coupon from Wirefly, you only pay $129.99 and you have the choice whether to spend that $100 on Walmart or not.

Keep in mind that price comes with a two year contract @ roughly $80/month and heavy fee, enough to make up the difference, if you cancel before the two years is up.

Can't you buy your phones off contract there?

some of us use walmart regardless so spending the $100 there is a given regardless if it's in the form of a gift card or credit card

Sorry, this is a nice deal but I have unlimited Data which I know will change but I don't want them effin up the order

No, VZ did not contact me after. But it did take about 24 hours through the Walmart website for "Carrier Approval". I did not change the plan. It asked me whether I wanted to switch to a Share Everything Plan and I said no. So I selected a $30 for 2GB plan for each phone. The plan already includes unlimited texting. I also have 1400 minutes but it was strange that it showed 700 minutes for each line. I'll have to check my plan after I activate both of the lines and see what it looks like.
For some reason Wirefly has just made me nervous in the past. A Walmart gift card is a good as cash to me so I'm good with that.

Yep, ordered mine this morning. i stopped by VZ store to check out the DNA first and man what a great looking phone, cant wait to get some more time on it.
The VZ rep explained to me that I would pick the 2GB but that would be my phone and my wifes plan would stay unlimited until she upgraded or I changed to a shared tier. Which I may do at the next billing cycle because it would save me a few bucks each month.
Again thanks man for this link, we shop at Walmart all the time so that $100 will come in handy!

Yep, for $600 or more. Plus I think there is only one carrier that offers a discounted monthly rate if you buy off contract vs subsidized. Our consumers are too dense to realize that they'd be better off paying full price for phones and demanding lesser monthly fees from the carriers. Everyone wants their fancy new device for relative pennies but will pay through the nose in monthly fees without batting an eye.

I noticed when I looked at the iPhone store for the US once that all the prices were under contract, where here in the UK it's buying directly with no contract. Also here you can purchase a month by month sim and you get the same deals as you do with the full on monthly contracts and they're much cheaper.
Why I was interested in the Nexus 4 was because it's £230-280 and I could get a contract of £25quid a month, cancel it any time and it's the same deal of unlimited data as the monthly version.
Sadly no 32GB version killed it for me because there is no Micro SD either.
Walmart will price match Radio Shack, who had it for $149, but only if you have a printed ad. Then you still get the $100 gift card, too.

It drives me crazy that carriers are still allowed to do this bs. All phones should come unlocked at full price from manufacturer or carrier, and carrier should have to compete for customers based on value and price of service. Unfortunately it is @ss backwards and carriers try locking out certain phones so you jump ship to get their overpriced sh1t service for the new shiny phone. They make you pay $599, sign up and cancel an hour later to use on another carrier -- truly sad
Verizon blows

I don't think most Americans would pay unsubsidized price for a smart phone. Sure, some would, but it would only take 1 carrier to offer a discount and people would jump all over it.

He speaks the truth. No one looks at total price anymore, only monthly payments. There's a good portion of the population that can't even get that right.

Has anyone successfully done this? That would be a crazy good price, making it $49. But maybe they would price match somewhere else for $199 making the price $99 instead of the $139 I paid. Either way I'm happy. My screen is dead on my Evo so I was more than ready for a new phone.
Also I looked at my account and everything looks good.
I wasn't able to find a print ad with the Radio Shack price, but they will price match any ad long ad it's not the Verizon ad, is what I was told. They said they just can't price match against VZW corporate.

Huh...is this only available through online? I bought mine from Wirefly for $129.99 and so if that price match does apply then I might as well return mine and get one again from Walmart
