Does anybody know if the transformer tablet can take a 64GB microSD card?
Since I ordered 16GB model, it would be nice to make up for lost space and add a 64GB microsd card in there.
first off, thats an SDXC card, NOT a MicroSD, or even an SDHC card.
The Transformer supports up to a 32GB MicroSD (which is the max, but also a rip off at $80+ where as you can get 16GB for $25.
and the keyboard supports SDHC cards to which i think go up to 64GB.
Personally, i'm buying a 16GB class 6 MicroSD and then a 32GB SDHC card for the keyboard for a total of 64GB of storage.

I've read reports that the keyboard dock will support full size SDXC cards but until they arrive in people's hands I'll take that with a pinch of salt.
Yes the official site says that the dock will accept SDXC cards, so in theory it should take up to 2tb cards (when they come out). As stated above, it remains to be seen though.
So what is the largest and fastest card you can put into the tablet itself (not the dock)? And can someone recommend one?

WOW! i actually though that not 2 months ago those were 120$+? and a class 10:O may start to think about it... (but still for this price i think you can have 3 16gb but still....)
thats cool that it'll take the XC cards as well did not know that.
but regardless, thats only the keyboard dock.
The tablet itself will only take up to a 32GB microsd. which currently is a waste of money IMO

Or what its worth, I have this card in my evo and keep getting data corruption. Purchased a wintek card instead for my transformer.

And I take it the wintec is doing just fine in the transformer? If so, to be clear, is it the wintec 32gb class 10 micro sdhc that is selling on newegg for $77.49? Sorry for not posting a link, I do not have enough post history to do so yet.

Technically SDXC cards could work, all you need to do is format it to FAT32 and maybe some driver changes to the system, but i cannot verify that since no microsd cards exit yet

Electrically and physically SDFC and SDXC are the same, just higher capacity and ExFat is the default file system standard for the new cards
Why the name change and new standard?
Well you can thank Microsoft for that
FAT16/FAT32, which is standard for flash memory supports up to 2 TB
Windows operating systems allow you to format to a max of 32GB
The reason being dates back to Windows 2000
(although versions of Windows NT way before used NTFS, But Windows 2000 was more available to the home user)
FAT32 was common, and microsoft wanted people to use the NTFS file system, so they decided to limit the creation of partition to 32GB for FAT32
Well that has stuck with all future versions of Windows, dont know why
Also Microsoft created ExFat, as a replacement for FAT as a removable storage file system, supports new goodies, and its a Microsoft Patent pending file system
So the SD foundation created the SDXC format because since most people use windows and cannot format their SD cards larger then 32GB why not just create a new standard that supports ExFat by default so people can easily format it
(You can use other formats such as NTFS, EXT, and etc.)
**Note that FAT32 filesystem does suck because it cannot support files larger then 4GB

I have the 16GB version in my Transformer. It was in my Evo, partitioned with ext3 for a few months, and I never had a single problem with it. It also performed @ class 10 speeds after applying the sdcardfix zip file.

I know the OP is a bit old by now, but thanks for this. I just purchased it for $41 and some change to replace my 16GB card which my wife will inherit. I'm always flashing custom ROMs and kernels and such and like to keep some other files on there too like music and pics so that they survive full wipes. It isn't too hard to start to fill up 16GB (right now I have 3.3GB free). Now I will have plenty of room to play around with for awhile. I believe I paid about the same or more for the 16GB card at BB, but had to because I had a brick not realising that rooting required the card. Didn't want to pay $90 or so in store for the slow 32GB card they had when they were advertising a class10 32GB online for alot less.

make sure the card is formatted to FAT32 properly. windows 7 doesnt allow you to format to FAT32 only exFAT and NTFS.

Same here. Works perfect. All 60GB of it...
Would this mean that any of the 64 gig cards should work ok?
Or if you guys have links to the specific card you purchased, I can get that one as well..

The only cards I know of are sandisk 64gb micro sdcards, that's what I use. I got mine from picstop

8GB are supported. I use a 8GB Class 4 by myself, without probs.

I do believe anything over 4gb is classified as a SDHC. If you can get a class 6 that would be better as it is faster.
16gig's works as well with the possibility of 32. I just don't know if anyone has tried 32gig's

I don't know of anyone who carries them either but 32 gig's is part of the Micro SDHC standard and on adverts for best buy I do notice the logo for some phones that they can accept 32gigs cards. They are around though but I believe mostly in Asia and in small numbers.
Also I'm not sure but I don't think the slot on the G1 takes advantage of anything faster then class 6 for SDHC memory cards. This is because it would draw more voltage and the device might get to hot.

I just purchased a 32GB microSDHC on ebay for under $30!!! Just got it in the mail and have been testing it to make sure it actually works, and it works fine. I am having a few problems. Nothing really major, just some issues between the phone, Windows 7, and Lucid Lynx Ubuntu. The phone, as well as Windows 7 only recognizes 31.2 GB and Ubuntu recognizes 34GB. I am unable to partition the card for Apps2SD with the console, parted, or in Ubuntu. In Amon RA's recovery it says it has partitioned the card but the time it takes to do it is too fast. In parted I get an input\output error and it asks me if i want to retry\ignore\cancel and parted is only recognizing 33.6GB. If i retry or cancel in parted it goes through and the print command says my partitions are there as I have set them up but the phone and Ubuntu don't recognize them and disk utility in Ubuntu says my ext partition is not clean when I run the partition check. I don't know what else to try and have put this here only because the 32GB card is mentioned. Any and all help and info is very much appreciated.

Sorry dude, I think you were scammed. eBay is notorious for these fake cards. Allow me to explain.
A lot of this stuff popped up when the PSP came out. People wanted cheap Memory Stick Pro Duo cards. These manufacturers found a way to hack the sectors, making the card look bigger than it actually is. You could make a 1gb card look like a 4gb card.
Firstly, you would get tons of I/O errors. This is because it is trying to address places that simply don't exist.
Secondly, the memory would fail at random intervals. This was because they bought cheap flash chips.
The problem is that there is no way to guarantee authenticity from eBay unless you're buying it direct from the manufacturer.
IMO, only buy Sandisk products. They are the only ones reliable out there. And yes, they aren't the cheapest, but they are the most reliable.

I'd love to put all my MLP Episodes as well as other movies on an SDXC, or would you recommend just using a portable HDD? (I have a 1 TB USB 3.0 (but it's backward compatible to 2.0)).

Im using a 64gb SDXC full sized card on my keyboard and another 32gb sdhc microsd which is always in my tablet. If you do choose to use a SD card solution i recommend you using a card reader to transfer files as the computer to keyboard is really slow.

The speeds are fine if your just watching a movie, but the time it takes to transfer files is hella slow. Which is why I recommended you to use a card reader.

I've got an 32gb micro sdxc in mine. I had to reformat it on my Ubuntu laptop using Gparted because FAT32 can't handle files over 4GB. First attempt, I formatted card as EXT3 but tablet wouldn't recognize it. Second attempt, I formatted card as NTFS, and it worked! Copied 9Gb mkv 1080p h.264 high profile movie and it plays! I also read on another board that an user confirmed that the new 128gb Lexar SDXC cards work in the dock's SD slot.

I use a ScanDisk Mobile Ultra 64GB micro SDXC -I. It was already preformatted with efat.
Takes hours to fill it up but movies are played with no lag or anything.

Now i have a question. Is it better to leave the ExFAT format of the card to use it with Prime tablet or it is better to format it to NTFS? I wonder which would have better speed in result, while they both support large files. Also which allocation unit size is optimal to have the best read/write speeds?

I don't think formatting affects the read/write speeds.

I run a Pretec 64GB Class 16 SD card in my dock that I bought from either Newegg or Amazon for ~$75 and I am very pleased. I've had it for 5+ weeks now with no trouble and many transfers on/off of it. About 2 weeks ago I formatted it NTFS and I now get write speeds from 16-24 mb per second! I was a bit nervous when I purchased it as I had never really heard of the Pretec brand before but, I have absolutely no complaints. I watch my 720p .mkv movies from it and hardly ever have a stutter. In my Prime run an HP 32gb Class 10 MicroSD and it also functions very well. Both are highly recommended.
I use 2 Sandisk 64gb mobile ultra microsd's in both the tab and dock. I have them both formatted as extFAT due to the size. The tab reads all 59gb's of the micro on both cards.

I am new to the site and the 64gb XC1 class card. I purchased one and tried to reformat it to fat32 and was unable on several systems. I could not get it to be recognized on my phone or the prime. Any special direction on what needs to be done in order to get it accomplished? I updated windows 7 to the required KB fixes and still nothing. Even thou my HP had an XD slot, not sure if that is different than than the XC; which probably is.

Format exFAT or NTFS. Fat32 does not support that size of drive and will also limit you to a maximum single file size of 4gb. Many HD movies can exceed this easily.

FYI... Sandisk is now selling an "Ultra" 64gb SDXC (micro SD) card that is rated Class 10 and is UHS 1. The "Ultra" tag refers to their class of cards that have 30MB/second read speed (unk. what the write speed is). Sandisk also has an "Extreme Pro" class of cards that have 95MB/second read speed, but the largest "Extreme Pro" in micro SDXC is currently 16gb. If you shop hard, you can find the 64gb "Ultra" SDXC card for less than $60 currently.
It's been previously reported that Razr supports SDXC cards, including 64gb (see this thread).
For anyone who might buy one, a word of caution. Put it in your Razr and format it there first before trying to use it on your PC. I'm not sure whether I received a defective card, or I somehow ruined my card by trying to format it to FAT32 on a Windows machine (using Paragon Partition Manager). I spent hours screwing with it before giving up and returning it to the seller.
I have the same 32gb version in my razr right now and it runs great. I assume the 64gb one wouldn't be any different.
Got mine for $23 on Amazon. Couldn't pass it up for that price.

It depends...
Is your USB adapter USB 2.0?
I typically use the SD Card slot with the adapter provided with the micro SD card.
USB for transfer unless you have a good adapter can be slower.
I use one 32gb class 10, works fine.

Have you tried a HD 1080p recording on your 32gb class 10 card ? , if yes - did you find any difference when you tried the same recording on a class 4 ( assuming 30 fps and standard cache)?
Got my one for a few weeks, phone has never been so slow.
Not faulty (tested the card multiple times) - anyone else having issues? I feel like I have a Galaxy S1. Just weird behaviour - Swype takes forever for k/b to appear, winamp takes forever for thumbnails for albums to appear - just apalling performance from my phone.

Try this... format the SD card from ur phone... increase the cache size of the card and give it a try..

I couldn't mount it or format it. My RAZR kept saying it was damaged. So, I formatted it in my PC first and all is well.
If you're under Windows XP, you'll need to have a program to do this. I used EaseUS Partition Master which you can get for free at http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html.
So far, the card works great and it's nice to have more room for DLC and songs.

You can simply put it in the phone. No need to do anything beforehand. If it requires you to format, the phone will tell you to do so.
I've given up completely on trying to get this to work in my phone. The phone will recognize it as 64GB, but will freeze up on numerous occasions even if I'm not accessing it. Does no one else have the freezing issue? Running Flick 5.0 Tornado
So what's the concensus on this "extreme" cards' performance while in the phone? Are backups faster? Transferring files to/from a dekstop while connected via USB faster?
Well I've been getting 4k movies ready for my z5p and the size of them is massive...
Worried that my current 64Gb micro sd would be full after one film I went and bought a 200Gb one direct from SanDisk (I'm not trusting anyone on eBay when it comes to memory cards)
And all I can say is its fantastic! You get about 189GB out of the box and after transferring all 34Gb of images and music off my other card I can also say it's fast!
I paid £116 Gbp for it from SanDisk direct.

I opted for a Samsung 128gb, that was not my first choice though, I wanted the Lexar 128gb as it had a very fast read and write speed but was out of stock and coming in at around £70.
The Samsung cost me £40-£50 as a prime deal on Amazon, only reason I got it.
I've had the 128GB SanDisk card for about a year now, since I bought an LG G4 back in April 2015 and it's been great. Moved over to the Xperia Z5P and still great. The only thing I haven't tried is recording 4K video to it on the Z5P, but the performance when recording 4K on the G4 was absolutely great.

They sell direct on Amazon so type in SanDisk 200gb micro sd and u will them as the first option I think... Should say SanDisk in the seller name.
I bought a 128 gb micro sd sandisk ultra on amazon lightning deals for £30
I have the same 200GB Sandisk card. It's great. I benchmarked mine through my Macbook and even with the phone to ensure it has appropriate write/read speeds and capacity so I know it's a real Sandisk card. Although I do have some issues transferring large files over 100mb onto it, specifically apps. Snooping around on forums though, found it may be more an issue with the firmware because it "times-out" when the software thinks it's taking too long to transfer so it just gives an error. Actually, if any of you guys have any insight on why I can't transfer large apps, I'd be all ears.
question.... where are you finding your 4K content for download at? PM me if need be.... I want to take more advantage of this screen.

That's what my sdcard is formatted at, but isn't FAT32 a newer technology optimized for bigger SDs?

Not really,
exFAT is Microsoft's proprietary successfor to FAT32 which had several limitations (including 4 GiB max file size, file and folder name limitations, no checksumming, etc.) which made it pretty
unsuitable for nowadays needs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExFAT )
I hope that the acquisition of Sandisk by Western Digital will be allowed, a huge stockholder is planning (or already has) vetoed on the acquisition,
My experience with Sandisk microSD cards hasn't been the best in the past - also having read about several cards breaking after a rather short time.
Anway - back to offtopic: Sandisk afaik is the only one offering 200 GiB microSD's - so I hope it lives a long life for the OP

with Developer mode and adb shell you could actually see whether related kernel modules are loaded for it

Yep , Because exfat can storage file capacity more than 4GB. :fingers-crossed:
for Movies:
I use a externel Harddrive with 4TB .
For the Harddrive i use exFAT.
The Z5 Premium support only externel Harddrive with 12V power supply.
I try a lidl externel Drive with only USB Power supply and the Z5 Premium think it was only a USB Power supply and don't accept it as an externel Drive.
If you use a externel Harddisk with 4 TB and 12V, you need some time at the start. The Z5Premium check the harddisk at first, this needs 5min.
Then you can use the harddisk.
