[Q] closest thing to gingerbread screen off animation on TB - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have spent all week looking for a way to get the screen off animation (old tv style) on my Thunderbolt and came up empty handed...until today! the only thing that even remotely does what i want is an app thats called screen off and lock. This app will play the screen animation and then lock your phone. now i know that everyone is saying that the screen off ani cant be done on froyo unless you're using a senseless ROM (like CM7) but if this app can sort of do it, is there a dev that can make this app work by actually pushing the power button? Any help would be appreciated.

I would LOVE if someone could get this working on froyo too!

You See That Is An App.. It Has Nothing To Do With The System And Animations, There Is No Possible Way To Do it :\

Yea i know...It was pretty much wishful thinking but thought i would ask. Guess Im gonna have to go to CM7 to get my fix until GB comes out for the TB. The app is ok but who the hell wants to go back to there home screen every time just to see an animation

Iv been switching from CM7 to Bamf and vice versa lately for testing. And I really miss that lol. I loved showing it to everyone and theyd all be like :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

i have already done a few things to the stock ROM like put the "HTC quietly rooted" boot animation and the down animation is the old tv turning off with static first then very similar to GB screen off. while that gets me the "OOOOOOOOO" that i want from people, i hate having to power cycle my phone to do it cause using swype i have to then switch to touch keyboard then back to swype. that becomes a pain in the ()()

Id pay a buck
just saying

**I posted the question there with some more details (I don't want to take over this thread).**

I have a down animation that's great if you want it (i explain it in the OP) if you want it let me know. Just a brief description on how to change your down animation:
Get a root explorer
Go to system/media
Paste new down animation in this folder
Done
I always recommend copying the original down animation in case you don't like the new one

The quietly rooted screen sounds fun. Any way that can be made into a flammable zip and posted?

I got it from another thread. The link is below

It's not all that special just so you know, it actually gets quite irritating after a few days... but if you want it, why dont you just use CM7 than. CM7 or any AOSP ROM is leagues better than anything Sense-based, except possibly Myn's Warm

Ok thanks for the info. I knew you could change it via a root explorer, but I'm partial to using adb (which would be great if i was successful lol).

Dcnbullet, could you please upload that crt downanimation, w/ instructions on how to install it?

Download and move zip file into /system/media using root explorer or equivalent (change the name of the original downanimation.zip file or copy it somewhere first so you can go back to it if you want). Then change permissions to rw-r--r--

Looks awesome!

What does this down animation actually do? I put it in the media spot and when I turn my screen off I get nothing? I did set permissions

MoJoMorph (via metamorph)
Here is a little status bar teaser. I only recolored the connection and battery indicator. I plan on creating some swype themes, status bar, and possibly pull down. First Swype Theme is up!
How To:
1. Root!
2. Install MetaMorph from the market
3. Debugging mode on!
4. Copy ZIP files (my morphs) to sd card (unmount before proceeding)
5. Launch MetaMorph
6. Click 'unzip/extract new them"
7. Press arrow on bottom right to go to sd card
8. Find the ZIP theme and click it.
9. Click close on pop up after the files are loaded
10. Click 'apply all'
11. I haven't run too many yet... but I had to click apply all twice for it to take and the 'theme applied' message pops up.
12. Enjoy and show off your cool new swype keyboard to lame ass unrooted friends.

Hey motorjonny thanks for uploading this for all of us. I appreciate it. I'm not exactly to familiar with Metamorph themes myself but when I do get my new device I might just end up giving it a try. I like new things! Thanks again and I hope the thread picks up for ya.
hehe thanks.. People on the vibrant and other phones were pretty into this stuff. It is as easy as following the instructions i put up. I guess it is a bit early for this device... but I will continue to design some more. This phone rocks!
Thanks for the themes. I love metamorph just wish I knew how to actually make them.
I think you'll find that people aren't as mod/flash happy without full blown ROMs to flash over any major fsck up...
Plus we don't have a way to totally restore it to shipping Rom from full root either AFAIK

I totally understand that. I was a bit scared to start this work with no roms. But Nandroid works. I screwed up swype trying to load the g2 version with a mic.. no luck.. deleted swype.. Nandroid restore brought me back to right after i rooted. I have never had a problem with any metamorph I have created messing me up beyond repair. Mine are pretty basic image changes at this point.
I agree. But with the calibre of members on the forums these days with apps floating around like one click root, and perm root thru visionary has decreased severely and as a result some may not be as comfortable as you or I.
Nandroid has saved my Bacon on more than one occasion.
Also every one who purchased the device on launch is still within their return period, many have not made up their minds whether or not to even keep the device (i know I will, I may have to still swap mine out however...) and don't want any difficulty returning (or swapping) the phone.

Hey I don't know if anyone else using metamoprh or ninjamorph but neither wants to work for me. anytime I try and run the checks it tells me that some files could not be extracted and setup. And tells me to make sure my system partition has enough space. I have no idea what it means or how to fix it.
got that on my first use, reboot fixed me up right away...
when are we gonna get that status bar???

[Q] Closing bootanimation needed.

Hi,
I am wanting to know how I can get hold of the closing bootanimation I have managed to get on my SGS2. Basically its like a tv screen when you switch it off, it closes down into a line just like the old tv's used to. I think it must be when I upgraded to the KE7 kernal or firmware but I just want to know if its possible to manually install it on a desire?
Ta.
its known as the crt off effect, i think you can install it manually, search in google or in xda for crt off effect
why

DROID DESTROYS APPLE Boot Animation - Ported for Atrix

So I thought this boot animation was pretty cool... I did a quick port for the Atrix Screen size (540x960), and it looks good. However, it needs some sound badly.
Thought I would post it here and someone could get some sound rocking on this thing. I take no credit for this, all I did was port the screen size for our device.
Here is a video of the animation:
Here is the download link:

LOVE IT! Anything that has to do with the destruction of that stupid fruit, I'm all for - that "barber" boot animation was just too.... TAME.... for me!

Boot animations should work on any build. However, if they have sound, you have to be careful about which build it is installed on.

There's a few other ports on lower screen rez, floating around the internet and youtube... this is as close as I got to an original source: http://dev.nsbtt.com/android/bootanimations/
I found the perfect audio file for this animation, but for some reason the audio on anything I do is cutting off really short, well before the boot up is finished. I am wondering if there is a maximum play time for audio in the notifications folder.

I made some nice sound fx for this video
Okay, got the desc file working, but theres a couple of issues
first off, the sound starts off a little ahead at first, then the animation catches up,
second of all about 3/4 of the way through the boot the sound gets really low for some reason, so its harder to hear, maybe once i get to my real computer I can edit the mp3 to be louder after that point, but heres the mp3 and edited desc file:
just unzip, replace the desc.txt file in the original bootanimation.zip with the one in this archive
then add the bootfx.mp3 (unzipped) to your /system/media folder via root explorer
... any way someone could put instructions as to exactly how to install this, along with the sound effects, using CWM? Kinda new to the whole thing, really....
when i flash it with cmw it says installation aborted why

You are probably on the wrong version of Tenfars CWM.
Which version are you using?
Added the audio to this boot animation:
http://www.mediafire.com/?rcy6jrlffgu5rrn
I cannot test as I am trying out CM7 pre-beta4 right now, and as far as I know CM does not support animation audio. If anyone tries it, please let the rest of us know if it works OK.
Cheers!

[APP] MusicPlayer.apk ... and now MiuiMusic.apk

Hey I would like to share my blue themed stock music player from my Blutiful1.4 theme for all yall who would like to try it out. Its still my favorite music player for the fact that it has a great EQ function plus you have the Music Effects that really enhance the sound and you got that cool visualization that looks great in your car at night...
-replaced the colored bubble images that shows up when no album art with a blue android tile image (dim when visualization is on) and a splashing blue android on the music list.
-replaced the transparent bottom EQ reflection bars with solid ones and themed both top & bottom blue so it now looks like one big blue wave (visualization must be on).
-Replaced the music title background with blue "android" wallpaper.
-new HD blue menu icons
-themed the music controls blue
-new blue glassy status bar play/pause icons
...enjoy and let me know if you like it/hate it, or if I should go jump off a cliff for ever trying to theme something, but if you do like it shoot me a thx.
[EDIT] Might wanna add that this probably works only on a 2.2 ROM since I'm running BionixV 1.3.1.
UPDATE 8/25/11 So I got the MIUI music player from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=854766&highlight=MIUI+MUSIC (THX lightninbug) and I like it but I did not dig the purplelish color so I themed it (obviously) blue to match the rest of my theme.Too bad it wont go on landscape mode. I felt I had to put it here for those crazy enough to want it.
-Android blue background
-New HD blue icons
-Blue music visualization
-Blue, Blue, and more Blue
same as the MusicPlayer.apk, just push it to the system/app folder using Root Explorer (or equivalent) file manager and reboot. Enjoy.

How do i install
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Use a file manager program (like Root Explorer or Astro File Manager) to either install the MusicPlayer.apk file by using their built-in installer or push (copy) the file directly to the system/app folder and then reboot. There are also stand alone app installers in the market (like ApkInstaller) that you could download and use to install "apk" files.

I extracted the battery from this theme it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003975but for the rest of my Blutiful theme,I extracted alot of stuff from many other themes including non-Vibrant themes like this one. If you do extract it for your phone make sure you pay attention how the icons in the charging animation are set up in your theme cuz u gonna have to follow that same pattern when you install a new icon set or your charging animation will be off.
Idk what the problem is but I cant get it to install using any method. Ive pushed it, flashed it, used apk install, and built in installers. Idk if the upload is bad or what cause I have downloaded it 5 times to test. Can you try making a mediafire mirror? And has anyone installed successfully?

Really? Im not sure what happened. I've been running this on both of my Vibrants for about a month already and I use this all day long at work and then docked to my car stereo when going home with no problems. Sorry for any inconvenience but I would like to see if someone else is having the same problem so I could rule out a bad download.

RomToolboxPro w/ SauROM

Anybody using RomToolbox to flash battery/icons/boots and running the Custom Rom SauROM?
I just installed it since you asked about it. It looked interesting. I don't have SauRom installed.
Basically its not doing what I want.
I bought it so I could change boot animations and icons like the battery icon. Its just not doing it. I've emailed the dev and I'm waiting to see what he says. For now I'd say hold off.
I've tried but still no boot logo. I'm on dag PC kernel.

I've tried it on few devices and it depends on the ROMs. I would definitely backup before you make any changes cuz I made the mistake of changing battery icon or something and it didn't give me the option to restore to the factory one and long story short, I had to reinstall ROM and everything but it does work pretty well. I've changed a few things as well as settings to the ROM like tweaks. I like it.
I got it to work. For the location, you have to put /system/media/sanim.zip
