Dim/disable LEDs on buttons? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone our there have an idea how to do this? I've tried using BLN control but it doesn't do what I need. The app seems broken since even the notifications are wonky.
I am using nemesis2all's OTB Reloaded aosp kernel on cm6.2 beta.

Confused here but don't the touch keys only light up for notifications if you have bln or a similar program installed?

they light up anytime I touch them...

Oh wow you want them completely off...I was thinking for notifications. I'm unaware of any app that'll do this. You will have to dive into the code.

I'd also like to toggle the button backlight off. Haven't found anything but folks who want to extend the backlit time.

[MOD][4.1.2011] Fixed (shortened) touchkey backlights (ED01 Edify 4.28.2011)
Start with that thread. Maybe you can use that as a base to decrease the time even more our eliminate the lights completely.

[Q] LED Notification App

I know that the XT720 doesn't have a dedicated LED for notifications - just the blinking of the bottom 4 keys (which is really buggy). I've seen some LED Notification apps around - but does anyone know if it's possible to remap them to the media lights (Camera/Camcorder/Gallery) and those lights for notifications? Or does anyone have any idea how to implement this otherwise?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10603505&postcount=12 There seems to be some ideas in this post about how it can be done - but again, I don't have the knowledge or experience how to implement this.
Any help/suggestions/guidance would be much appreciated!
have you tried NoLED ?

No, I haven't. I'll check it out though
NoLED looks like it's only for AMOLED screens. It would kill the battery super quick on an LCD, unfortunately. I guess no app exists to remap the lights on the phone, eh?
LCD? The XT720 has TFT.

Alright...however, the app that was suggested won't work with the XT720's screen. I'm wondering if anyone knows of an app that could be used for effective notifications?
what exactly do you want? An app to shut of the leds or to use the leds to be notified about incoming messages?
for the first you can use LED hacks- worked fine for me...
How about the second? Leds for notification?

An App to turn off softkey backlight?

Anyone know of an app or mod that allows you to turn off the softkey backlight when you want? I read on my Vibrant at night & those extra bright softkey lights are hard on my eyes.
does not exist for any GALAXY S.

Really? I had Captivate with i9000 reoriented kernel and those softkeys were lighting only when pressed. So if you tap screen, softkeys do not light - perfect for night reading. Solution that I see - to find a i9000 reoriented kernel for vibrant.
I know there is one called "BLN" (Back light notification I think), the paid version lets you schedule when the lights turn on and off. I have mine scheduled to turn on at five in the morning and off at seven at night. But I think it's just for notifications and not turning them off completely.

Unfortunately BLN doesn't turn off lights completely. But we can ask developer to add such feature .
Anyway there should be some sort of hack for kernel to turn off those keys.

This is correct I know of no Galaxy phone that can do this either Sorry
This is disappointing. I know it can be done. Because there are plenty of members here that have turned off their BLN keys on accident by using SGS tools, and messing around with it.
So I know the script is there. Just, nobody has done it yet.
Dev,s anybody???
Come on- Let's do this.
Thanks
Bump. I would like this for the Samsung Fascinate. Anyone?
Have you try 'Keep the lights on' in market by Guardian Bob? When toggle Off, the lights stayed off when you tap the screen. Atleast it is for me, I'm on Bi-Winning rom.

It's not the app, it's the ROM. And they come back when you tap the keys directly. I think all 2.2.1 ROMs do this.
Same issue
The key lights really bother my eyes at night....has anyone figured out a solution to this problem yet......please help thanks

No LED vs BLN

what do you guys use, whats more "battery friendly?"
I've used NoLED since last august, never had any battery issues. Love the idea that I can look at my phone and see gmail, gtalk, or gosms app icon on the screen if I have new messages.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I prefer bln because noled does eat more battery life because its still turning the screen on, hence: why you have to hit the home key instead of the power key to read your message. Bln is led light only. Downside is you don't know what type of message it is with bln.

Try them both and see which one you like. Neither uses much battery at all. I like no led so I can tell what messages it is.
No LED could cause screen burn in though.

I use BLN. Once you have BLN you can just go into each app that supports led notification and modify the settings there and instead of using the default bln setting you set in the bln app your phone will use those settings instead. So you can change the BLN frequency to help you distinguish between the different types of messages.

How? It doesn't stay in one place. I have never heard of any screen burn in by noled from anyone.
It could really only cause burn in if you don't have it set to move the icons every few seconds.
I prefer BLN just because its brighter, and the unlocking procedure doesn't change.
If he figures out individual light blinks, it will be even better.
I've used both, and haven't seen any excessive battery drain on either. However, both come with apps that let you configure the settings, so YMMV.

Question: Pulse Light Notification ICS Passion v11

Hey all... I had v10.6 and the pulse notification worked as it should... it pulsed. Now after flashing v11 directly over v10.6 even with the pulse option selected, the softkey lights stay lit now. I've unchecked/rechecked this option but not sure what to do.
Anybody else have this issue or know a solution?
I remember this happening to me where I'd get a message and it won't pulse but stay lit on previous versions of ICS Passion. When it happens to me I usually turn off the pulse notification, reboot, turn it on, and test.
No luck with that but thanks for the suggestion!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Same here: I saw it pulsing exactly once. After the next upgrade it was gone back to just turning on the lights. It seems common to most ROMS that support the feature. Too bad :-(
Maybe it has something to do with deep sleep/power management and the fact that the CPU would need to wake up every second and turn the light on and off.
I would say try the Streamline Kernel. That is the only one I had the actual pulse notification work for on ICS Passion.

Now that you mention it, I was on v10.6 + Eugene's kernel when it did work.

Mine never pulsed, even when it was on 10.6.
Never saw it pulsing too, just aways on on notifications.
We don't have full control of it, right? Like different pulses for e-mail and sms notifications, or control over individual leds, like blink home for e-mail, back for sms, menu for calls, etc... I know that they are independent leds, as I saw only some on one time (when the phone crashed), so, it could be done that way.
Yes, that streamline kernel totally forgot. I had pulsing when I had that kernel on and when I flashed to v11 w/o streamline it is solid.
Apparently streamline is currently only available for/compatible with v10.6.

[Q] Notification LED

Does anyone know how to use the front key lights as notification led's on our L9 since we don't have one? I found out how to use the camera flash as one but that's the back of the phone and i don't like facing the phone screen face down on anything in fear of scratching the screen.
If there is not a method already around somewhere to do this, how hard would it be to get this working? I think it would be a great asset to our L9s!

Use LG Notifications from Playstore. It's free but requires root.

Please try the NOLED app. Probably a better option. Tried on my HTC Glacier. Works.

Works for me.
How does it behave for you? On my L9 nothing changed at all once installed and enabled :/ What settings did you choose? Do they flash after the screen turns off for awhile after the notification, and stay flashing until they are read??

I just chose the default settings, and it flashes the front key lights till the message is read. Maybe cause I'm using P760 V10h on my P765.
The app is a battery drainer since it wakes the cpu up each time the buttons light up.
Im hoping they can program this feature into future roms for the L9 where it just causes the LED's to blink until the screen is turned back up when a notification is received. Not sure if its possible to program the blinking to run without waking the cpu?
That was another concern of mine, but if it was integrated into the rom in such a way to not wake the cpu then battery life would not be affected as much.
