[Q] Media apps can't find files - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hey Guys,
My English is not perfect, sorry about that. I think you could help me to solve this problem.
I have cyanogen 6 the final version on my mini pro and my media apps (like gallery 3d, or MIUI music) can't find any pictures or music from sd card. But these files are in the sd card - I can open it from my computer or Es File Explorer. One gallery app said that it can't find any photos from sd, because I have to get access for it, or something like that. I think this is because of the superuser app.
Thanks for the answers.

I had the same issue initially. A reinstall of the ROM fixed it though.

I tried this. First Gallery 3d was ok, but laiter it started showing ,,there are no items in your collection. I think the files in sd card are protected or something like that. But thank you Sideromelane for your trying to help. Any more idea?

Hey check if you have a file/folder named 'nomedia.' in your sd card. If yes delete it.
Worked for me.
Sent from my U20i using Tapatalk

Make sure you look for it with your PC, as it's a hidden android file and some android explorers won't show it, it's a file called .nomedia

check whether its excluded from media scan...

Yeah! I found the file with name .nomedia and deleted it. Now it works perfect!
Thank you guys for your help!

Two "mini" problems.

Hello there,
It's my first topic here as I am a new member.
I got two problems with my x10mini.
First of all I am running cm7(2.3.4) with custom kernel.
The first problem is that the phone can read the sd
card but the photo gallery and the music player are empty. I mean that the phone can't read/show the media of the SD card,if I want to watch a photo I have to open it with file manager.
Why?
Ps:i had this problem before the Cm7 installing.
The second problem is that the screen doesn't turn when I am turning the phone left or right or upside down.
It's stucked at one position.
Ps: I have checked the automatic turning at the options and the 90,180,270 degrees except the 0 degrees at the options.
I am waiting for your help,
Thanks a lot :-D

for pictures, open the folder and look for ".nomedia" files delete them in each folder if there is some
for screen rotation, which rom & kernel do you use? ("official" CM rom?)
Two ''mini'' problems. Tought in the same moment I read this: Pun Tun Tss. (Got it?)
Anyway, you can try what the above post said, or check if the media are on the right folder.

Rotation problem fixed after two reboots.
What do you mean with "delete nomedia" .
I didn't get it.
I can not understand.
My phone recognizes the SD card but the photo gallery,as the music player,is empty, like I don't have any media in my card.
It says that there is no media to display.
What should I do to fix it ?
Thank you.

Use any file explorer or Windows Explorer and search for .nomedia.
If you find any file with this name, delete it.
I used ES scanner application and I can't find a .nomedia file in my SD card.
Should I try to scan the SD card from my computer or it's the same ?

any folder containing media files will be indexed in gallery, with only one execption: if there is a .nomedia file in the folder, that's why if you find one you need to delete it
you can try to use an alternative app (like quickpic) to see if it is the same or not
the most efficient way is surely a factory reset performed twice
In linux, files or folders starting in dot (.) are hidden, check for a "show hidden files" in your explorer, or use windows

[Q] Problem with .nomedia and deleted files in ext_sd

Hi all,
I have been having a weird problem with my HTC flyer (unrooted, original GB rom) where from time to time it will create .nomedia file on the main directory of my sd card (ext_sd) so the files that i put in there do not get shown in picture gallery or media players. Usually i manually delete the file and do unmount - remount, which sometimes do the trick before the .nomedia re-appear.
On top of that, i just noticed as well, the files inside the directory in ext_sd start to go missing! The folders are still in tact, but my files inside the folders are missing..
Anyone can advise me how to troubleshoot this? Thanks!

that's weird...my guess would be a dodgy app you've installed...i would do a factory reset and not install anything other than 'official' apps from known sources, like google apps or official dropbox, for 2 or 3 days to see if it keeps happening
you could also try to format your sd card
Bump! Similar Problem; playlist files disappear after media scanner completes

I've had similar problems; I'm trying to transfer playlist files to an ext_sd. I can see the files transferred to a ext_sd directory. But as the "Media scanner running" completes I literally see the files disappear!
I've reformatted the SD card several times. This has only started to happen in the past few month but I can't see any new apps that I've installed. If anything I've uninstalled apps.
Sorry but this is on a Galaxy S Wifi media player (yes I know this is the Flyer, etc thread but it's the same problem so I'm trying to avoid splitting any information that might be found...)
Any help gratefully accepted.

[Q] about the file .thumbdata in DCIM

what the hell is this file (.thmbdata3) in sd card>dcim>thumbnails.each time i free some space on my sd card ,this file getting bigger and take all the space (sd card becomes full).i dont have that much photos on gallary,so what is the problem???
gt i9000
ics4.0.4dark knight rom 5.5
i added a screenshot to see in attachment
it looks like nobody knows what am i talking about .....i think im going to flash a new rom again
i also have 2 .thumbdata files of 200 MB each in my /DCIM/.thumbnail folder
maybe it`s a bug since i only have few pictures in my phone
Think thats bad!
Think that's bad. I have two thumbdata's both at 2gb each!
My partners Xperia S still had all her old thumbnails in her album even though she has deleted most of her pictures. So I googled how to remove them, the best solution I've found is go into settings, apps, all, media storage and erase the data. When I try to test it on mine the data is only a few mb. No where near 4gb!
Still I'll let you know if I find out.
its like an temp folder on windows, android makes an virtual protokoll from files and something, you can delete these file but its come back ever,i delete these file every day, because im addicted to flash, lol and i haved never problems.so delete it,its safe(my opinion).greeeeeetz
the best solution i found my self is: delete the big file thumbsdata and then never run the stock camera app,if you run it ,the file will be generated again consuming all your free space(me becomes 0 bites free :crying.......of coarse i cannot live without a camera app so i installed fx camera app.... it is good now but if i turn fx cam to video mod the problem comes again(it uses the stock camera app for video ,but not for photos),,,,,so i will not use video record option, until some hero comes with a fix
Yeah! That's it!

Just copy names of that files (thumbdataX--x), delete that files and other files in folder, then create folders named the same as deleted thumdatas. Reboot device. No annoying thumbdata3 (my spend 2Gb) anymore! And look in folders named LOST.DIR (you can find it in the root directory of your internal memory and your SDcard) - huge temporary files may be left in these folders, so delete these files.
Tested on Toshiba Thrive Tablet (ICS). No problems with gallery and camera apps.

new FOLDER with the same name as thumbdata-file
Untile now this works.i dont see any thumpsdata files.

Solution works!
In my opinion that file was related with pic preview directly from camera app, when you click on little thumbnail.
When I deleted it, camera stopped working and that thumbnail was blank until file was recreated, then it worked again (with 2GB pictures and a 2.74GB .thumbdata!)
Now creating the folder with the same name of file stopped that huge file from recreating himself.
I think camera now refers directly to thumbnail files (in thumbnails folder) for preview. Or, if not, that's the same because now I have 2.74GB more on my internal SD!
Yes this is a camer app problem(or bad feature:banghead: ) it takes space more than the photos itself....anyway this is the only way right now to fix it.

I have tried this but seem failed
I created the directory with a dot infront
and the folder seem to be fail to created
So I trying another method is using Root explorer
and change the permission to remove all write permission on that thumbdata file
Let see which one works
Hi!
This solution did work but the free memory in my sd card is almost the same as before. And moreover my stock gallery app cant be opened since it says free up some memory. I am using xperia z gallery as my substitute.

@einst31n Maybe there is another thing eating yor memory...try "folder size" for windows, it is a tool that arrange all folders in size and give you a statistic figure.

[FIX][CM9][CM10]Music files NOT appearing in Music Players

WARNING: you need root for this!
A common problem with ICS and JB Stock as well as ROMs is that the music isn't appearing in the music player.
This is caused due to presence of a file ".nomedia" in your music player folders.
Up until now, you either had to use inbuilt music player ES File Explorer or search and delete all .nomedia files and hope that you get lucky.
But searching your entire phone AND sdcard can take hours, especially if you've got a big (16/32 GB) sd-card.
Also, thousands of .nomedia files could turn up if you've got lots of media files (hello manga addicts ). I have Mango installed and had nearly 3 GB of manga on my phone (), thus the search (using SolidExplorer) hadn't finished even after 3 hours.
Well, don't worry!
I've got the quickest solution to your problem:
Connect phone to computer via USB cable, or better yet use sd-card reader to directly connect the sd-card.
Use your computer to search and delete all ".nomedia" files. It's much faster .
Re-mount sd-card on your phone.
Now use Root Explorer or any other file explorer with root access.
navigate to <root directory>/data/
delete the ".nomedia" file present over there.
Enjoy your music!
Press the THANKS button, I need it.
The problem isn't quite so simple. I don't have have .nomedia files anywhere in my music folders, and yet it doesn't scan them.
I too dont have .nomedia file anywhere ! I think the problem is in libs ?
Try this.
If you have the patience, install mixzing player. reboot your phone. then open mixzing first. go into folders, then the folder where you store your music, then wait. The names of the songs should change from filenames to the id3 information. Repeat for each folder, scrolling so that the info appears for each track; all while not actually playing anything. Now open your stock player, the tracks should have appeared. If they haven't, force stop the media scanner and try again.
Hit thanks if it helps !

Are you guys sure you checked the /data and /data/data files? Get your SD mounted on a pc and search for .nomedia files; include hidden files in your search.
Should work. Did for me AND a couple of my friends, all facing same problems and having different ROMs.
Just in case, tell me the names of the ROMs you people are using.
Will try to help.
Running a fresh install of PAC by nims11 and I have all my media visible. So no worries.
Did notice some corrupted jpgs , deleted them

ES File Explorer Help

A couple of questions,
I used to use this app on the HTC One (M7),
-i was able to create folders and move files around
-also had an option on some websites including facebook to download via 'ES Downloader' when i clicked on a video.
now on the Z2
-creating folder and moving files around is not possible anymore, am using the 'File Commander' app that is preintalled to do so
i needed this function as the Z2 internal storage is just not enough, have to move media files to the SD card.
(have seen somewhere that KitKat has stopped this function on the ES app, this true?
-no option of the ES downloader to download videos anymore when i click on a video, it just goes straight to playback.
i'm not sure if its the KitKat thing, because my HTC One was on KitKat also when i was able to do all the above mentioned
and feedback is greatly appreciated
TIA
****Both devices are NOT rooted
You need to root to write on SD card with ES.
to clear things up
both the devices are factory without root
HTC probably did something to make it work. KitKat issue though. Only file commander seems to work like u said.

hope that clears it up for you.
Because i download quite a few videos, and those apps initially have the download content on the internal storage, being this phone only has 16GB, it's now such a pain
i'm no android system pro and really not confident in editing or changing any of the factory settings, i probably will just carry on and do the download then use the File Commander to move the content from internal to SD
