I do ... i would buy a phone with the appropriate band that supports tmobile 3/4g at nearly the same price.
Then when tmobile gets their version of galaxy s i would then flip the phone on craigslist and up a few dollars more.

Believe me you would be miserable when you are not in a wifi area stuck on edge.
What if you are out with the misses or something and need to pull google maps or some ****.
I almost did the same thing with xperia x1 but decided to switch to att instead of put up with edge on the x1 with tmobile.

Just secure yourself a mother in law that pays the phone bill

nah son, put the galaxy s 4g on craigslist then the money u get drop it on att

It would be pretty mad to get such a phone and live with the dreaded "E" when not around wifi.
That said, a co-worker has a T-Mobile Nexus One on AT&T and he gets by, but as many of you may know, Big Blue's flavor is hard to come by.
I do suspect the stateside SGSII, no matter the carrier, is going to be closer to $500USD instead of the $700+ you'd pay for importing.
I'm going to hold out for a TMOUS version and pay full price.

No, you aren't crazy. I'm on TMOUS, and I've decided that this WILL be my next phone. I've been living with the G1 since it's inception, it's time for me to upgrade.
I'm a little worried about a TMO version, because I don't want them to screw with the S II. Ya know, start omitting features and changing the design and all that, it looks PERFECT. I can't wait until it's officially announced for our carrier. But if it isn't, I might just be like you and live on E with this awesome phone.

I tried out the g2x–or actually two of them–but after some issues Ive decided to grab the sg2s instead. Just knowing its out there somewhere makes me sweat a little. I think I could get by with just edge, but I dont want to take the chance seeing as it will prob be a bit cheaper in the states after the official announcement. Hope the time goes by fast, I dont want to wait forever for this thing. BTW-att is holding some sort of event soon, i was reading about on all the blogs today. Hopefully its for gs2, i guess that would mean the other carriers wouldnt be far behind.
Damn it looks sweet. Never would have thought I would be interested in a galaxy after the updating issues here in the states with the og galaxy, but Im just going to root it anyway. Hopefully there will be some good dev support for this.

Right, the s2 is the best looking phone available. I think when I get paid im pulling the trigger, and if a "3G/4G" version becomes available that will work on tmobile bands and then just flip it on ebay. Living with edge when Im used to hspa+ on the GS4G is gonna suck ROYALLY though.

good. I was thinking of trying the g2x but honestly not having an amoled display would kill me. and the only reason I dont want to switch to at&t is because the prices stink. plus I have a huge deposit with them

I'm in a weird situation. I'm on tmobile right now and I'm very happy with it but I'm moving to bloomington, Indiana and apparently tmobile reception is horrible there. So I might have to switch to AT&T but the problem is I can't afford it! So I don't know if I should get SGS2 now or wait for tmobile version.

If T-Mobile does mess with the US release, I could see using it on EDGE, but I think it's a compromise I'd soon regret.
So TMo has the Samsung Vibrant and the Galaxy S 4G. What would they call the Galaxy S II?
Galaxy II 4G? Vibrant II? GS2?

anyone jump ship from att to verizon with buying this phone feel out of place? I guess i do being i have been a nexus one and S user and having the freedom to do whatever i want on the S kinda got me spoiled. but yet i still feel out of place like verizon is not what i should have. I'm in northern Indiana hour from chicago and so far pretty okay service. though i can't complain since the S had edge only for me. but it just does not sit well with me. anyone else out there in the same boat kinda on feeling out of place or something. or anyone can give me some upside to this jump and help me stay on verizon?

If you are talking about how "tied" down the rom is, you'll need to root and wait for a rom to come out to fix that. Virus has a rom he said he is going to release tonight that will be completely sense free.
They are already working on porting CM7, which is currently GB 2.3.3, to the Tbolt, so we might even have that in a few days.
I assume these are the freedoms you are talking about, cause you can have them on the Tbolt, soon as a dev releases them.
It's been 5 days man, give it a little time. This place will be full of roms/themes/mods/apps in due time.

I'm on the opposite side of the fence... I am in downtown Denver where AT&T is notorious for dropped calls, or getting no connection whatsoever with full bars (during crowded events such as baseball games, parades, heavy traffic jams, etc.).
As of right now I'm wondering why I haven't been on Verizon all these years. Granted, I'm a little spoiled by the superb 4G coverage in Denver - and I have yet to test VZW's 3G stability in the outskirts - but I really couldn't be any happier.
Thank you VZW!!

The Nexus 1 and Nexus S were exceptions for ATT as they were Google dev/backed devices. Look at any other Android they offered and you would not think you had freedom. So jumping to Verizon has little to do with that.

Nothing. I'm not changing a thing until I see how the merger shakes out. I'll be damned if I'm going to drop a bunch of coin on a phone that might not run on the newer merged system and they shuffle the freqs.

I probably keep them longer than most. I'd say 18-24 months, sooner if I can grab a free or discounted upgrade.
And as far as how likely? Who knows. All I do know is that whatever 'news' leaks out about what or when they plan on doing anything, I don't believe it. I've been burned so many times in the past that I start at the opinion that I'm going to get screwed, and if it turns out to be something positive then that's a bonus. They say it'll be "x" amount of time before they change anything, but I've learned that they are almost always lying to some degree, mainly just to shut us up before they lower the hammer.

True...I wouldn't put anything past AT&T.
I can already hear "We're sorry, your Galaxy S 2 is no longer compatible with our network. Let us replace it with a free Motorola Backflip with a FREE two year contract."
I don't think the merger is going to take place.. They still have to go through some other approvals and I have a feeling it is going to be rejected.. Or maybe its me hoping that I don't lose T-Mobile for crappy AT&T

At&t bands in the sgs 2
Vibrant - Bionix V
Im looking into either the LG G2x or HTC Pyramid or both(family plan). I would consider the Galaxy s2 but i think they will change some things for t-mobile version, since it needs to add the frequency they might want to change some other things on the phone. As for the merger, they will still need to keep the bands the way they are until EVERYONE's t-mobile contract is up, and if they want to change them and upgrade customers phones to At&t phones, they have to be equivalent to the phones we had with t-mobile. Either way, i dont plan on staying with At&t if merger goes through, so if they pull any of that **** i have a right to just cancel with no termination fees and go on to another carrier. Plus i'll have 2 new phones to play with, even though they will more than likely not have any development going on, who knows. If verizon has some good phones, ill switch to that; the 4G LTE is looking pretty good. Sprint's 4G sucks in my area.
Ive been a long time samsung fanboi. in fact ive only owned one non samsung phone in the last 12 years. Im on my 6th sgs and have grown tired of this phone. t mobile owes me an upgrade so I was thinking about the g2X or the optimus 3d as a stopgap phone untill the sgsII comes out

Returned My Skyrocket, I'm Back :D

After having the skyrocket for one day, I decided to go back to the original Galaxy S2. My reason? I saw a post on there that the OG GS2 was only $99 at Target. I couldn't justify the $150 extra price for a bigger screen and LTE option that isn't even in my area.
So I went to Best Buy and did a exchange/price swap for the OG GS2. The guy at Best Buy mobile offered me to keep my Skyrocket and give me $100 back. But instead I decided to get the OG GS2 and got instead $150 back. He said if I decide to go back to the SkyRocket later, he won't offer this deal again. The reason he offered it was because they would lose money on the exchange. What would you guys have done?
Don't get me wrong, I liked the Skyrocket, I even had it rooted. For the support of roms and awesome devs the OG GS2 has, it was a toss up. The Snapdragon processor lag was not noticeable when even scrolling fast through the forum categories this site has. Anyway glad to be back xD
Off to root this phone again!
You're crazy dude. If you could have gotten back $100 and only been out $50 you should have kept the skyrocket.
I'm not much of a penny pincher. I'm definitely not rich, but in the end it's not a lot of money and you only live once. I'm not going to live my life being cheap. Geez I probably spend $300 a month just in Starbucks.
I returned my SG2 and paid the extra $50 to get the Skyrocket. Of course I live in an LTE area, but usually use wifi at home anyway.
My thoughts were that the SR is more future proof. Also I see no lag with either phone. People with a sg2 who say they see lag on the SR are really on crack. They are both really speedy. I don't base a phone on benchmarks which rate things I would never really do.
But in the end, if you're saving basically a tanks worth of gas made you happy, then I guess that is what matters.

I know it was only $50, but I also had a little over $100 in accessories on the OG GS2: Zagg Shield, Casemate pop case, extended battery, Taurus bumper. So in the end I do end up saving $150. Initially all I really wanted to do was see how much development would happen in that 30 day period.

So true. Both will be outdated within a month. At least the SGSII will have the huge dev community.
And LTE... that'll just get me to my 2GB data limit quicker. I'm on Wifi alot anyway and barely stream anything anyway.

SR is not more future proof - as it's a niche device with little in common with other devices, it's going to get very attention development-wise, officially or unofficially.
As compared to the I777, which can get nearly anything the I9100 gets, which is Samsung's hottest-selling phone of 2011.

its only 2 days old.......damn E
Welcome back, I think that the OGS2 is the better device for me. Glad you like it as well!
my take...
I returned the Galaxy S II for the 'Rocket... At first I was going to use my contact extension to buy and sell an iPhone 4S and use the profit to finance a Galaxy Note but now that I have LTE there's no going back, especially with my grandfathered unlimited data... The bluish display tint is annoying but I can put up with it, especially since I got the 'Rocket for $150. Fair dinkum for sure.
I have never done a 30days switch till this year. It's the way Samsung/AT&T had made their release on the Galaxy S2 and the variants.
As they release 2 "similar" phone within the 30days period. Which gives us the consumer the ability to go on a "trial" basis thanks to 3rd party stores like BB, Walmart, and Target with their 30days no question as return policy.
I bought the sgs2 for $260 out the door the hour it came out while paying verizon $220 to break my unlimited data contract and final bill. Yup, $480 and metered data this phone cost me. Best mobile month of my life.

That's how I feel. Much like the Galaxy S and the NA variants of the phone.

Yes the dev part is true. Me on the other hand I don't run custom roms. I did when I had the captivate being as it took forever for 2.2 to come out, and when it did I already moved on.
I used to jailbreak all my iPhones just so I could customize it. But I never really got on to the custom rom bandwagon with android phones.
Stock works just fine for me.
I still think it's more future proof though being as LTE is the next generation and which is the future. It will keep expanding in coverage and in the end I think the SR would be the better choice for that reason.
For me, I like the bigger screen of the SR (my eyes aren't getting any better as I age), and I live in an LTE area.
I am actually enjoying the SR much better than I did my Atrix, although the Atrix is a great phone as well.
On a side note, I wonder why AT&T is only doing Visual Voicemail with their LTE devices. It would be easy to just offer the app for other androids. I used YouMail for my other phones which works great, but just something about having it built in to the carrier I like better.

Choosing between this and the Skyrocket

Hello. I have signed a two year contract with AT&T (4gb data yaaay...) and got the HTC Titan since im a WP7 lover, but after a week im not sure i can justify a long term agreement on the platform so im gonna use my 30 day windows to swap it. Since i know ill get bored of iOS its out, so its between the GS2 or the Skyrocket since the Vivid is somewhat laggier and locked bootloader. Im leaning towards this due to the Exynos vs Snapdragon debacle....
Question, Is it worth a contract nowadays or is there a better choice? I wished the Galaxy Nexus arrived before my 30 days was up but its not happening. Please share thoughtz

If you're in a LTE area and don't mind having a higher battery drain due to 4g then go with the Skyrocket. Of the two I think that the GS2 is the better choice but then again I couldn't take advantage of the 4g where I am so the skyrocket would be pointless.
Wow I'm sick of seeing these threads.
Only you can decide what is going to be best for you. If you're in LTE and use the phone for surfing, ect, get the ****rocket. If you play games or watch movies, sgs2 is the way to go.
Do a search and you'll see all the pro/con thread already out there.
Best bet is to go into a store and play with both phones. If you still cant decide after that, then specwise the GS2 is a better phone than the Skyrocket... so let that be the thing to tip the scales.

The difficult part of that will be finding a s2 at an att store, att has discontinued the model in favor of the skyrocket.

Stop spreading bull**** - the I777 is still available and is NOT discontinued.
However if you live in an LTE market, AT&T is pushing the ****rocket pretty aggressively.
Compatriota!!! Need to speak english because this is an English forum.
Choose the S2 but if you are from San Juan go with the Skyrocket, if not then the S2. Im from the west and 8mb download seems cool! PM me if you have a question

It is not entirely false. In my area (Northern California), the AT&T corporate stores and authorized dealers no longer carry the original S2, only the Skyrocket. I got mine from a local RadioShack. I guess it is because they are nationwide retailer and have their own stock. The only way to get the S2 from AT&T directly in my area is to buy from their online store.
99 bucks at Costco for an S2 and tax only on 199.99. 117 out the door!

I got my GS2 on monday (I ordered online) I right away noticed a dead pixel. I went into my local ATT store and they didnt have any GS2s in stock. They checked 3 or 4 other stores in the area and none of them had them in stock. The manager told me that they were no longer keeping them in stock because they are now pushing the skyrocket. She told me she thinks they were even asked to send the GS2s back.. So while the phone may not be at end of life ATT has decided to "forget" about the GS2 and push the skyrocket since they are pushing their new LTE network
Just my thoughts/experience on the subject
Sorry for posting another thread on this, I was reading the other topic posted here....
but since the thread was bumped again, let me ask. Does the SGS2 have more dev support than the SR? My main concern is being left behind too soon, and since the GS2 is closest to the OG, i think id get custom and official ICS before SR imo. plus i cant get over the crappy Snapdragon cpu it uses as well since im anal about those things and thats why i basically swore off htc androids because of it.
here is the kicker... i DO live in a LTE area haha, desicions, decisions...

I live in an LTE area (They just launched in NYC) and I chose the GS2 over the skyrocket for a few reasons
1. I had the bigger sprint GS2 and I actually prefer the 4.3 form factor
2. The CPU/GPU is better in the GS2
3. LTE is new and this is their first generation device I'd rather wait until it matures more (in handsets and network) than to jump on it now.
4. There is a lot more dev support for the GS2 and since it's so close to the International version it means we pretty much get whatever they get (just a tad bit after)
Now I did say I preferred the 4.3 form factor and I do, but after using the 4.52 sprint GS2 I kind of got use to it and the 4.3 felt tiny (even though it's really not THAT much smaller) so it took a little adjusting.
I was in the ATT store the other day when I was trying to exchange my GS2 with the dead pixel. I played with a SR and I can say you can definitely see a difference in snappiness when they are side by side. The Gs2 just seems more smooth and fluid. If I didn't have them side by side I prob wouldnt have noticed a difference but you most certainly notice a difference when they are side by side.
In the end for me the reasons to go with the GS2 outnumbered the reasons to go with the SR which the only reason I could think of is that it's LTE

Well, I DID physically go into two local ATT stores this past week, and neither had any s2s nor any accessories for it, in addition to being told by the employee that they were obsolete in their system. Yes, you can get them online through att, but not at the stores around here. Lte has not been launched in my market yet (SF bay area) but there are pockets of cells in testing, so it will be coming at some point.

[Q] DNA In Canada?

Hi guys,
I'm in Canada and using a sim card of Rogers. I love Droid DNA so much and I don't want to wait for the World-Wide Version or the Canadian version to come out. I just want to make sure that can I use Rogers 4G LTE on a Verizon Droid DNA in Canada?
Thanks

Were you able to just walk into a Verizon store and buy it without becoming a Verizon customer? Is it Factory unlocked? The web masses say YES but the Verizon people are probably trained to say No.
I popped in a friend's AT&T SIM and had no issues. It picked up service pretty quick. You should be able to buy the phone outright from Verizon without being a customer. In the past I was just asked for my ID (before I had Verizon).

why are you selling it ?
not as good as its made out to be? im curious.
im in the same boat.; in canada, just returned the samsung s3, didnt like it.
now on the fence between the iphone 5 and the droid dna.(beacuse i like a nice slick build quality and the s3 felt like a cheap vcr remote)
I would love to see the DNA come to Canada, but friend, DON'T GET AN iPhone!!! If build quality is what you're concerned with, i'm sure everyone here will agree with me that Motorola is the way to go, IF you want a device that has amazing build quality that you can feel in the hand. I am a Samsung fanboy, but i've also owned and reviewed (for my youtube channel) many Moto Android devices, and i have to say, they have, hands down, the best build quality of any devices i've held in my hands. Some people may flame me for this, but i think Moto has better build quality than HTC, and i really enjoy HTC devices!
But don't down grade to an iPhone! Coming from Android, you would regret it, i'm positive of that. =)
Cheers,
Jared

well I have an iPhone 4for the past 2 years. why do you say don't get an iPhone?
lets not discuss which os is is better. I'm talking about performance here. and yes build quality. and I've yet to see an objective comparison where another phone outperformed the iPhone 5 .
hmmm
iphone5 or DNA...

im also interested in getting one. I am also from canada and might make a trip down to the states for the holidays. Can i just walk into a verizon store and buy one outright?

i just checked out a couple of motorolas, they are decent but still completely plastic. the iphone 5 is made from glass and aluminum. its pretty hard to top that.
but i dont mind the feel of the htc's.
can anyone tell me the best way to get one for use in canada?
should i just buy one on ebay from the us?
and does the droid dna have a sim card?
a local cell phone store told me if it has a sim card then they will be able to unlock it and it will work.

why do you think the dna is so much better than the iphone 5?

Can't say too much on battery life, only had it for about a week, but it generally seems pretty solid, lasts me a good day of usage (browsing, facebook, twitter, calls, the reg, etc) just make sure you close apps that are unnecessarily running in the background as that'll slow the phone a bit (depending on the app) and drain battery. hope you enjoy your DNA

Hi, I just got the DNA in America to use it in the Netherlands.
In a actual Verizon store i could not but a DNa without a kind of plan.
Even saying I want to buy it without a plan, they say you should pay 599 for the phone and x per month as a subscription.
So not doing that we went to a general electronics store that sells verizon products but was not an Verizon original store.
Here is where i could buy the DNA without a plan for 599.
Hope it helps.
I have a problem with the data connection in the netherlands, but i do not know if this works in Canada.
I have a droid DNA here in Canada, I can confirm that it is in fact sim unlocked out of the box. I won mine, so Im not sure about the hassle at a verizon store. I am trying to get it to connect to LTE. I have read several reports of it working no problem for people here, but can't seem to get it myself. I do get it to connect to hspa without an issue by putting in my apn settings and changing them to default.
