Nandroid Failed Can't Restore Stuck in APX! - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

To make a long story short my gtab broke so I got another one. Prior to shipping the bad one back I did an nandroid backup and copied to my computer.
I received my new one today, installed clockwork and trying to do a restore.
Error while flashing boot image!

is what I receive. What gives? Any thoughts on why I'm seeing this?

I managed to get the "md5 sum mismatch" on my dx, but that was because I renamed the original file and used spaces in the name...
Never managed to get the error you got though
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

I've tried so many things. I flashed Vegan ROM over again, performed reboot, went into the fresh clean ROM..then rebooted into recovery to restore. Same error.
I tried partitioning over again, wiping, etc then restoring..same thing. I even tried another nandroid that I took days prior....!! I'm at a loss... argh! I want this image back from my nandroid

Also to add confusion to the mix: I tried taking a backup of nothing basically, and then restoring that and it worked fine. However just none of my 3 nandroid backups takin off my old device restore on this device. Is there a coorelation?
There has to be a way to flash back my nandroid backup...right?
Maybe my bootloader is locked, thus stalling on the boot.img?

ok so now I really jacked it up...tried downloading rom manager from market, installing some recovery and restoring my image, which did nothing but freeze at the viewsonic screen. Now I can't get into recovery anymore
Now I tried nvflashing back to stock... windows 7 crashed at the 11_app_img but it copied scucessfully, and now the tablet won't turn on?wtf!

[Q] nandroid backup not restoring apps

I decided to try out one of the ICS ROMs today, so I did a nandroid to take a snapshot of my normal ROM setup. Normal procedure, right?
Cut to a few hours later when I try to restore my phone to its normal state using CWM. nandroid verifies the MD5 and successfully restores my phone to its pre-ICS state, but when I boot up, all my apps are gone. I get the grey Android package icon with "SD" superimposed on it for almost all my apps (including Market). When I try to launch one, an error pops up telling me the app is not installed. This persisted even when I wiped everything and re-restored from my backup. The strange thing is I have no removable SD card installed, so the apps couldn't have been moved as far as I know.
So, does anyone know what's going on here? Is this just a faulty backup or should I just cut my losses and start fresh?
Do a FULL WIPE. And try again. Report back
Done. I did a factory reset, wiped cache, and system. Didn't work—should I go the Odin route next?

Install official Samsung stock firmware then root and CWM recovery your nandroid .

Try Appextractor from market. It allows you to extract apps (and more) from a nandroid backup.

Thanks for the suggestions, everybody. I managed to get things working again by Odin-ing back to stock and reflashing CWM recovery 4.0.1.4. Worked like a charm, apps included.

Nandriod problems

Okay I finally got around to putting some new ROMs on my 3D. I tried Supra 2.2 then Olympus Trinity Titan HD then Wtsb 2.0. Well I decided I wanted to go back to supra. Now I did nandroid backups of the system before I did anything, I also did one after trying the supra. Nothing will restore. When I try, a couple lines of green text flash too quickly to read then the screen goes blank and never comes back. I have to pull the battery to reboot. I have tried complete wipe and re-installing supra, but the market keeps FC right away. So i can't even get titanium backup on there.
Please help.
Follow up, I have market running on supra now and will probably stick with it for a while, but I am afraid to do anymore messing around because I don't trust nandriod now.

sounds like a bad flash or bad d/l. I would re-d/l the recovery and try one of your previous backups. (ofcourse same recovery as previous) or might not work)
If that doesn't work, since a bad load/flash went through your nan could have been goofed up as well. I would try not really another rom, but make a back up of the one that you have now, then wait about 10 min and do somn diff, then restore the one from 10 min ago... Not sure what else to say unless we knew all..
what hboot, backup, etc... anything else that can help...
Just to clarify, nandriod does not copy the kernal. So if you restore an older backup after loading a rom with a different kernel, you might have to re-install the old kernal too. right?
By default I am pretty sure it backs up the boot partition which has the kernel in it

even with hboot 1.5?
Maybe that is why my restores kept crashing... I was using recovery, but had not launched recovery from fastboot, whish as I understand is how you flash kernels if you are not using flash image.

[Q] Trouble with CWM loading anything

So, I bought a new Wifi Tab and finally convinced the wife that I wasnt going to destroy this thing by rooting it and trying custom ROMs. However, I am not having much luck with CWM. Here is what is going on.
I used Odin to flash CWM 5.0.2.7. Then I promptly made a nandroid. Then I rooted it and made a nandroid with it rooted, then I installed Titanium Backup and promptly backed up everything. Then I copied all of this to my PC before continuing. So I am pretty safe (I thought) unless I manage to spill my drink on it.
I then tried to flash the latest AOKP on it and it seemed to flash ok along with the gapps. However when I tried to boot it, all it would do was reboot into CWM. I tried power off, power on, the reboot within CWM, reflash (multiple times), all to no avail. All it would do is boot straight to CWM.
I figured no problem, I will just use Odin, restore to stock and restore my backup. So I restored to stock, reflashed CWM and put my backup back on my storage and it just fails with MD5 mismatch. I searched around and all I can find about the MD5 is not to rename the folder. I dont rename the folders, just copy them back and forth so thats out. Is there a way to disable this and would I want to?
My only guess is that my USB cable is at fault and somehow it is corrupting my files. It is not the stock cable, but a 3rd party I bought online because it was longer. I've used CWM on both my wife's and my phones with no problems. Does anybody have any suggestions on why anything I try to do with it fails?
Also, I havent done as much searching on this as I should have, but is there a way to just have the Tab mount a folder as a generic usb drive instead of this mtp crap? My skyrocket just mounts like a usb drive and I transfer files on and off with no problems, its quick and painless. This mtp stuff is just annoying.
So I am just updating this in case anybody else comes across the same issue. I suspect it was the cable I was using. I downloaded the zip files with the tablet instead of transferring them with USB and they seemed to flash better. I ended up removing the MD5 file from the CWM backup that was stored on my desktop to force CWM to restore it and it restored but it crashed about 30 seconds after booting up so I think something was corrupted. (Hence why the md5 didnt match). So I just restored to stock, re rooted and restored my apps with TiBu. I still am not running a custom rom as the wife insists she needs the camera even though she has yet to take one pic with it.

[Q] Problem restoring via CWM - Data

Hello, I need some help with restoring via CWM on the Galaxy S3.
On the S2 I pretty much always used CM9 and jumped back and forth between versions and backing up/ restoring was never an issue.
Now however I am using the stock ROM and its rooted of course.
I made a back up of my stock rom 'cause I wanted to try and install some stuff.
I tried installing the jelly bean transition effects but the install failed, the device felt kinda sluggish (maybe my imagination) afterwards so I decided to restore my phone. The restoring went good but the last ting that happens is that CWM says that restoring /Data failed.
I reboot my phone and I come to the first start up screen where I get to choose language and so on. Everything but photos has been deleted. I try to install CM9, and I do that without any issues. Then I trie to backup my stock backup but I get the same error message and I get back to stock setup page.
My backup is a staggering 6GB, and I read somewhere that CWM can only restore 2GB?
I've deleted that backup and done another one but that is also 6GB.
Does anyone know how to restore from that first restore or how to make future restores work?

I had this problem with my sisters Xperia X8,couldn't restore anything that i backed up.It goes for a while and stops. But she had bootloader locked.I was shore that i unlocked her bootloader but i didn't,so i unlocked bootloader, and tried to backup and restore and it worked fine.
I'm not 100% and i don't know is that the way CWM works, but i think in order to restore your data, that you backed up,you have to unlock your bootloader. But it's the best to wait someone who knows this for 100% sure.
If you haven't unlocked bootloader try that,or you don't won't to lose your warranty!?
Good luck!
I don't think that CWM has size limitation but i can be wrong.
Have you made sure that your CWM is up-to-date? if in doubt flash the latest CF-root.
was there ever a resolution to this problem? I did the same thing, rooted the galaxy s 3 and unlock the bootloader. Get a backup of my stock set up using clockwork recovery mod. Now when I try to restore, it does not restore the data. All of my apps look like they are there, but none of them are really installed. I think I can just reinstall all of the apps by hand, I would like to know how to get over this.

[Q] TWRP nandroid help?

originally had a good flash of jellyblur, ran fine, never an issue. Decided i wanted to try AOSP 4.0.4 ICS. Flashed it, and it didnt run like i wanted it to. So I decided i wanted to go back to the backup i took using the latest TWRP of jellyblur, but when i go into the "restore" menu in TWRP no backup files show up. I have them copied to my PC and ive tried wiping and adding them again with no luck. Is there some simple step im missing? Ive restored backups with other recovery's but never with TWRP. maybe im just being an idiot, but please help? is there any way to restore a backup using ADB?
