[Q] Galaxy tablet email on NOOKcolor? - Nook Color Themes and Apps

The Galaxy Tab email client looks very nice. It takes advantage of the landscape orientation of a tablet with a split folder/message view. I know that Kaiten and Touchdown have similar views, but the former doesn't support Exchange 2010 very well and I don't really like the UI on the latter.
It looks like folks have managed to get the Galaxy Tab email app going on several different Android tablets, e.g.:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895075
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12011499
Has anyone tried/managed to get it going on the NOOKcolor yet?

yes, i've been using it on my Fascinate before i got my nook and have been using it for my nook since i got it and flashed cm7.
I use it so i don't have to put a pin or password everytime i want to check my work email. (more like delete the work spam email)
Can't really comment on the UI or anything compared to other mail clients as I've never used any other, but to me it's basically the stock email app that my phone has without the added security features.

use kaiten imo, its better. there was a thread that could get the galaxy tab on the nook, i tried it, and it wasnt all that great

I will try kaiten asap. I confirm that the galaxy tab email client is not so good on nook. I kept it five minutes..

My understanding was that Kaiten and K9 didn't work well with Exchange 2010. Is that not the case? If it does, can you provide a pointer to something describing the level of support?

What apps would you like to see?

Hey guys,
Are there any (simple)tablet specific apps you guys would really like to see? I'm no star programmer(2nd year software eng. student with no experience before university) and I'm certainly not an android pro(really just got into android development in January) but I'll see what I can do. I've been working on some simple phone apps but I'd really like to get started with some apps for honeycomb.
If there are any fans of theoatmeal.com, I'm thinking my first honeycomb app will just be a simple viewer for his comics. Nothing complicated, just a list of comics on the side, with an image view which you can swipe to change panes in the comic and then some tabs at the top to filter(all, cats, grammar, food, animals, tech - just like on the website). I wish I could work on it this weekend but I'm leaving for my parent's in about half an hour and I don't have my laptop with me(just my galaxy tab 10.1).
Anyway, let me know what you'd like to see.
Automatic about :debug desktop view app.
A deviantart app so I can see images quicker and easier.
that's actually a good idea. It's really frustrating to have to put that in every time. Not sure how to do it exactly, but I doubt it would be too hard.
I've never used deviantart myself but that is something I could look into.
I'm thinking of trying to make an app that can send text messages when connected to a phone via bluetooth. Not sure if it will happen but it should be an interesting project. I was originally planning on doing it with google's push api but that would be more work and probably isn't necessary(do you really want to receive text messages on your tablet when it's not in range of your phone? I wouldn't).
That would be useful. Heck even away from the phone would be useful for many people. When "away" SMS gets forwarded to email or gv.
I believe blackberry playbook has a lot of functionality between phone and tablet. Anything to increase the handshake between android tablet phone would be great. Even if its a chrome2phone style sending a map or website back and forth.
Data recorder
For some reason the 3G watchdog app doesnt work correctly on my galaxy tab 10.1v. A working app designed for the tablet would be nice, unless other people have other suggestions I could try out.

I should get my I/o tab next week so I'm not sure if these are in...
plants vs zombies hd
a working netflix
torch
google voice
I'm a student and would like to see more apps that I could use like the notebook app for the htc flyer. Something that looks professional and simple. Like having a word document on your tab. There's a few out there but none that are entirely convincing. From what i've heard there are apps for other tabs that can record lectures, have word recognition, among other really awesome things. Assus has a decent app for it too I guess, but i'd like to see it on the galaxy tab 10.1 forsure.

You can turn the word prediction on in keyboard settings for Samsung's keyboard. it's called XT9 prediction. Even the stock honeycomb keyboard does have prediction.
I wasn't entirely convinced by the stock keyboard nor Samsung's keyboard so I bought Thumb Keyboard from the Market. I haven't looked back since
A Flipboard style app would be pretty nice, it's about the only app I miss from my iPad (besides Netflix & HBO Go).

I'm developing an app just for this purpose. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133277
Netflix Netflix and Netflix please
oh and maybe Netflix?
Swype 3.0 is awesome on the SGT, few bugs but great features. I have a challenge for the college student. Create a lockscreen replacement for honeycomb where you can define app shortcuts to place around the unlock circle similar to the unlock icon and drag the smaller circle to each shortcut to launch the app. Similar to sense 3.0 but for honeycomb!

How does this compare to SMSSync? Can you post screenshots?
An app that can read ebooks and comics. Has a notepad feature and has flip page animation for all of them.
A decent effing sports app that has favorite teams, a working widget, and is usable in both portrait and landscape.

Best app to recover a stolen galaxy tab 10.1 with only wifi?

Hello, i am starting to become paranoid about going outside with my galaxy tab because i am afraid it might get stolen. I am looking for a good app to let me track any possible thieves like the ones ive seen many times for pc, that let you get the almost exact location where the lost item (phone, pc etc) is and automatically take pictures and screen captures.
The ome iwanted to try is Prey (because it a chilean software, hehe) but for android devices it only tracks the position, but nothing else, and i think it is kind of usseles as yiu dont get a 100% accurate position and it is usseles if the adress you get is a building with 100+ people living in it.
Also another issue with prey and othe simmilar software is the they only work on android cellphones where you have to send a text message to activate the tracking mode, but i cannot do that in a wifi inly galaxy tab.
So, do you guys have any recommendation for a nice software? I am lookin for so ething simple that runs in the background and doesnt disturb me. (and of course.... Free)
Thanks in advance
Samsung actually have features built into the gal tab 10.1 for this.
Go to samsungdive.com. If you are signed into your samsung account on your tab, then you can start using it straight away i think.
In terms of other software, androidlost has heaps of features for free. It doesn't rely on text messaging. The design is pretty terrible, but hey, its free.
Lookout has a product called plan b. It always you to install the app remotely and tell you where it's at. But needs an Internet connection.
I don't think its honeycomb compatible but its one to watch out for.

Another option is Norton mobile security for android. This one I have tried and it works on my Samsung galaxy tab.
http://tabletsforme.com/norton-releases-antivirus-for-android-phones/
I also have the Samsung configured on my tab. Yeah lots of overkill

Did you managed to get it working for Wifi version? It does not work for me.
thanks for all the info. I tried the samsung thing, but it didnt work .
Lookout seemed like a good alternative but it is not supported on tablets.....
I also gave a look at some of this applications (http://lifehacker.com/5832947/five-best-phone-recovery-tools) but they are all phone-related.
Guess we just have to wait a little more for some apps to be released for wifi-only devices............
I have used both androidlost and seekdroid on my galaxy tab 10.1
So there are apps that work on tablets
I like prey
http://preyproject.com/
Very cool, and it's free. It can take snapshots from the camera, use closest wifi spot to send ip address and info, you can sound an alarm or lock the device out. There are a lot of options. It allows 3 devices for the free version.
yeah, i also like prey, but it doesnt work with the wifi only tab as it requires and SMS to be sent to the device for activation

It does work. You first have to add your samsung account on the tab. under settings then accounts/sync, add account, then click samsung account. Its the only way samsung knows you actually have a samsung device. Btw it works pretty good. Best of all, its free,
Tab left on plane
Hi, so what would you recommend to find one left on plane, with sim card but in airplane mode, wait and see if someone gets through the security to see where it is or is there a way of forcing the tab to turn itself on?
thanks in advance

I tinkered with Cerebus on my Tab, seems to work just fine (wifi only). I've been using this on my Android phone. Can attach up to 5 devices.

As long as there is battery, you can track your device's location, log app activity, send a message/VERY audible alarm to the device, take a screenshot, take a picture with front or back camera, a few other options. Obviously, app needs to be loaded on the device BEFORE you lose it.
Works great!
great, i will check it immediately. Thanks!
i just checked it, it looks very good. Saddly its not free, but it is extremely cheap, so i think i will buy it once i get home. thanks again.
AndroidLost is a great app and works perfectly with GalaxyTab 10.1
register your device with your samsung account and use samsungdive.com
works great for sgs, sgs2 and sgt7500
I was using Prey on my laptop and all phones

Install second copy of WebOS and dual boot for two users?

I am already dual-booting WebOS and CM7 but this tablet is actually my twin brother's and it's getting annoying to use the same forums and websites with different accounts, cookies, etc. I've posted as him accidentally so many times that I've just about given up on browsing my favorite tech forums at all. The browser is nice but it's still very tedious to switch often and, considering that the OS has no way to support different user settings, I'd actually prefer to have an entire duplicate installation of WebOS to customize with my own email accounts and such. Is this possible? Where should I start?
I wanted this too. I hope for a user account switch like in windows. It seems like a logical feature for a tablet that will be shared. My big thing was Facebook, so I had my wife signed into the app, and I used the browser. But that was a pain.
Next I thought that I would just use android, and my wife webOS, but then I felt like I was punishing myself. And I knew my wife would not put with gingerbread's deficiencies.
I never found a feasible solution to sharing the tablet, hopefully a solution is found.

Gear S Replacement

I'm really discouraged by the fact I'm locked down on this TIZEN crap. Today I shattered my phone, and could have really used the email app 'cloud magic' (my default mail app) so I could limp mode until I got a new phone. I needed to look at some past emails, no way to do this because the cloud magic app isn't available on tizen.
neither is my viper smart start app.
So, it's either time to replace with mainstream, or hack this thing.
What options do I have ?

Thanks. I did the same thing in that pinch of a moment, but it was cumbersome.
I'd still like to know if 1) I can hack the watch so it can utilize android wear or 2) what android wear watches have the ability to receive texts/emails when host phone is off.

Tab S3 and galaxy s8 continuity

Hi, I was wondering if the two devices share any continuity between them. Such as, messages for example. Can I receive and send text messages with the tab s3 (number from my phone obviously) also can I pick up on web pages etc. Where I left off? I'm thinking whether the tab or a surface pro4 is better for me, the battery life on the surface pro 4 is sub-standard.
Thanks!
I have both the Tab S3 and a Surface Pro 3, and they are night and day different, mainly in the type of apps/applications that you run on them, so that should be your deciding factor. If I'm going to pick up a a tablet and sit down and do serious work, then it's the Surface. But if I'm looking for something that's in an "instant on" always ready mode, then it's the Tab S3. If you use Firefox, you can synchronize bookmarks and tabs across devices if you sign in the with the same account, but personally I do not do that.
Sent from my SM-T820 using Tapatalk
The text messages is what I would find more useful. Similar to how you can answer messages on an iPad/iPhone. I don't do serious work on these devices really. I don like the surface but wouldn't mind having the same eco system.
Thank you!
imessage on iOS is actually server based. Samsung has something called SideSync where you can link yor tablet or your PC to your phone for txts and other apps but its more of a remote control solution so it chews up battery and you cant leave it on all the time.
I would say between the two, the S3 is much better for entertainment purposes. Lighter weight, cheaper, better (and cheaper) drawing apps, longer batter life.

Check if your carrier has an app option for texting. At&t does.
There used to be a chrome 2 phone extension...not sure what happened with it. Still,I believe you can share a link with yourself.
I have both the Tab S3 and a Galaxy S8+. There is a similar function like Apple's continuity but you have to use an app for that. Just download and install SideSync for both devices (You can also download and install it on Mac and Windows). Then both devices have to be connected to the same wifi. So if you are just at home, simply fire up SideSync on both devices. All your text messages will com to your Tab S3. You will get notified of calls to but can only answer through the S8 and not the Tab.
The downside to this is you have to manually start the app on both devices. Not a true continuity like iPhones and iPads.
For browsing, continuity already exists on Samsung's stock internet browser. Just make sure you are signed in to your Samsung account on both devices. Chrome browser also does continuity between devices. Also, there is a Chrome extension that will sync Chrome bookmarks to the Samsung internet browser.
Original Samsung keyboard case, Folio case and S Pen are on sale now on Best Buy. Its a good time to buy if your looking to get the Tab S3. But still being an Android device, there is no substitute for a full computer like the Surface Pro 4 that you are eyeing. I have a Samsung TabPro S 2-in-1 computer (similar to a Surface Pro) and I dont see my Tab 3 replacing it.
This is exactly what Samsung Flow is for, they even highlight it as a feature on the Tab S3 webpage:
I just installed Samsung Flow on my Note 5 and Tab S3 and I have to say... it's dumb. All it allows you to do is keep your phone unlocked, and read your notifications on your tab. You can enable the hotspot on your phone from your tab, and send content (images) back and forth (which I already do with cloud storage). Nothing about txt message. Uninstalling.

I have used Sidesync many times between my PC and my phone and it's great for that. For kicks, yesterday I installed it on my Tab S3 and tried to connect to my Note 5. It would see the phone but every time say "error connecting" so I never got it to work.
The important difference between Sidesync and what crapple has with imessage is that Sidesync is more of a remote control application like Team viewer, with the added bonus of getting the notifications on both devices. With imessage, there is actually a txt message app on both devices that effective work independently of each other since its server based.
For people in the US that use Verizon, we can install VerizonMessaging which will let you send and receive txt & calls from the S3. However, any outgoing txt you write on the tablet do not find their way back to your phone. So if have a conversation with someone on your s3, and then go back to your phone, you only will see the incoming tats from that person.
