Upgrading - HTC EVO 3D

I'm due for a Premier Customer full upgrade (1 year deal) on my main line (June 6th?) and will be getting the 3D as soon as it's available.
I'm curious as if you guys think I should buy the phone out right and save my Full upgrade for possible Quad Core phone at the beginning of next year or what?
Thoughts to consider:
What do you guys expect the 3D to be priced at? (Outright/Half Upgrade/Full Upgrade)
When do you guys expect HTC or a decent Vanilla Android device to drop a Quad Core Device within Sprint? (End of this year/early next year/mid to late next year/Next EVO - Assuming there is another?)
**My other option is to possibly buy the EVO outright and use my upgrade on a Tablet once I find one of my liking within Sprint...
Just looking for some opinions, and as always, Thanks ahead of time.

buying a tablet won't burn your upgrade. that will be considered a seprate line so the upgrade timeline is different from your main line. When you add a line on your account it'll be like a new customer price and won't effect your other line at all.

Quadcore phones are likely to come out in the end this year maybe even earlier. I expect the evo 3d to be $700 with no contract and maybe $200-250 with a two year contract. More than likely the next Evo will be Sprints first quadcore phone.

Don't use the on year... you get a lousy 75 off of full retail. It's not worth it.

I have three lines, one of which used to be a data card that I no longer use. My main line (I am a premium Gold) has a full upgrade that will appear on the E4G 1year anniversary. My second line is due for a two year upgrade now as I bought a Hero outright. My third line has an upgrade available also and I'm pretty sure I will use that 2yr upgrade then on a Data capable tab. I'm just seeing what the general consensus is. I like to have the latest and greatest but this EVO could last me personally until next year but will be passed to line #2 when I get the 3D. I'm just debating the upgrade use on the E3D bc if a Quad Core hits I will want it then and there and I'm sure it will be pricey.

Figured it out. I can use my main line upgrade on the E3D. If a Quad hits ill use my second line to get the phone. Then, my third line can be (was originally a data card I no longer use so I just put it as a phone line and let my cousin use it) used for the Tab when I buy it. Winning.

evo 3d non-upgrade!

Anyone here gonna get the E3D without the upgrade plan besides me? I used my upgrade in order to get my evo last year and i think imma just buy the E3D full price and sell my old evo. So that next year when the new awesome phone comes out i can upgrade for that!
Yes, yes I am - without hesitation.
So am I. I last used an upgrade for a palm pre in jan 2010. I went full price on my evo in June and I'm going full price again because my contact expires in november.
I think I am going to wait on this one. No doubt the EVO 3D will be an awesome phone, but I don't feel the need to go out and get one on launch day like I did with the EVO and the Palm Pre before that. I am still very happy with my original EVO even though the next generation of phones is starting to come out.

I'm pretty sure we can still upgrade after 1 year, the only difference being you get a $100 subsidy instead of $200.

x2, Evo is still running strong and it does everything I need it to. Plus I'm not about to pay 400-500 dollars for a new phone since I'm still under contract.
I used my upgrade last June when EVO came out, and I will become a silver premier effective 4/1, which is not eligible for a new line discount upgrade after 12-month service anymore (only premier gold can upgrade at a discounted price).
Just spoke with a Sprint rep, he said that I can change my plan to $89.99 before 6/1, which is my 12-month upgrade eligibility point, then I will become a gold premier automatically and get a discounted upgrade. Changing plan will not reset the 2-year agreement, so I can upgrade my EVO on 6/1 after changing the plan in May. Of course if EVO 3D comes out before 6/1, I'll be sad...
Edit: Correction - it looks like I need to stay with $89.99+ plan with at least 3 months, which means I need to change my plan now...
I thought u had to be on that for three months?

Yeah, I just saw that... that rep must have forgotten to mention that. darn it.
Well, the only way is to change the plan now, so that it becomes ~3 months by the time my 12-month point comes...
I'll just use my upgrade every year as I will have premier gold for being a 10yr sprint customer
My yearly upgrade (Premier Gold) is in Feb, and last year I used it (without thinking) on the Hero, then three months later the Evo comes out, and the Hero is old news.
I specifically bought my Evo used knowing that the new phones would be released this spring/summer.
So yeah, certainly going to use my upgrade this June.
Guys, here's a great hint: Use wirefly.com to buy it. You can get a full discount even when you're not eligible for an upgrade
The catch? They charge you a $200 ETF on top of Sprint's ETF. BUT, even with wirefly's own ETF, the phone would still cost less than full price.
Not worth it to have a second contract with wirefly.

Yeah, looks like I'm either going to have to buy it outright, or use the $75 discount for one-year upgrades.
I just labeled an envelope titled Evo 3d. Assuming it drops in roughly 12 weeks, and that it will be about 500 bucks. That's 41 bucks a week in the envelope, and by june, ill be buying an Evo 3d.

sweet!! ......
If we change now to $89.99 plan to get the Premier Gold to get the 12 mo. upgrade, is there something stopping us from dropping the plan back down to $69.99 after the upgrade? I def don't need a bigger plan, I probably use less than 50 min a month with the free mobile to mobile.
I'm going to have to wait until it's released to employees.... If Sprint follows the same guidelines that they did for the original EVO, probably not until November or so.

Best method of upgrade for Current Evo Owners?

I need to start hearing some possible options since it looks like next month will be the release date.
I joined Sprint last year when the Evo released.
What would you guys do if you wanted the EVO 3D?
Thanks
Did you check your upgrade eligibility on https://manage.sprintpcs.com/specialoffers/RebateWelcome.do
Like you, I joined sprint last year on the launch day of the EVO4G at the $69.99 plan. This site says I am eligible for a full upgrade for the phone on my account. Interestingly enough it says at the bottom this program ends June 4th.

i have the same thing. I got the evo 4g at launch. up until april 1st the system said that I had a $150 credit avalible june 1st 2011. now it says I have a $75 credit june 1st and a full credit 4-1-12! All I did was call sprint telesales (they are the only ones that can do this) I very polity asked if I could have my upgrade back because I would like to get the evo 3D. they put me on hold, when they came back they said that I could get my upgrade back and that I needed to call on june first because that is when my account resets. She also said that she was making notes in my account to make this easy when I called back. i asked her to send me an email confirming this conversation. I got a email that had her specialist id# team name and date (dont think i need it but
I have had problem with sprint in the past)
So basically if you have a $75 credit right now you can call sprint telesales (888-253-1315) and ask for your $150 credit back. Mentioning the evo 3d may or may not help, but the rep did talk about the evo 3d for a second with me when I noted I wanted to get one.
Just got my upgrade back to $150..telesales didn't help me they routed my call to account services...all I did was act dumb about not knowing about the premier changes. I told him I had a full upgrade in March and all of a sudden my full upgrade was gone...so he went through all the details about the changes...and then reset my account thus giving me back my full upgrade oh yeah and made sure I got a email of the conversation

If I wanted it? I do. It will release next month. I will be absolutely flabbergasted if it doesn't come out on June 3rd (also my birthday). That would be a deviation from their tradition of releasing phones on fridays, big-deal phones on the first friday of june and also neglect to honor the Evo4G's anniversary(ish)...
The Evo really was a big deal for Sprint, just as the Evo3D is....does anyone remember Sprint's phone selection prior to the Evo4G? Quirky at best for dumbphones, random (crap) at best for smartphones....the hero or the moment or a BB....ick....and the hero--while a great phone--was a fluke.
So what am I doing? I will be trading in my Evo4G for $180 at Radioshack, I called Sprint and got my upgrade turned back into full (from $75) and I reserved a phone at Radioshack...so I will most likely be walking into Radioshack at 5am on June 3rd and likely walking out at 5:30am on with $25 in my left hand and the best smartphone to date in my right hand--as I was told (when I posed this exact question) by the RS sales rep who agreed, whose manager agreed and whose district manager agreed that they would all be shocked if it didn't come out on June 3rd....none of us know better, it just fits a pattern...and for the Evo a new tradition.
That's what I'd do.
if ur like me, i need an upgrade every yr
all u have to do is stick with a plan tht is $89.99 and up to become a gold member and receive a yrly upgrade. Next yr the Evo 3D will be a dinosaur and so I rather be a gold member than have to upgrade evey 2 yrs. I lost my upgrade in feb with the new changes but got it back cuz they made a mistake and put me as a silver member. I've been on the everything plan for months and tht qualifies me to be a gold member. i since changed my plan to the everything data 900 $89.99...if i go any less than tht then i'll be a silver member again! no waaaay!
before the evo phone came out, The touch pro 2 was a great phone but wasnt an android phone but the screen was big.

If you plan on upgrading every year then it should pay to go with the higher plan as it should run less then purchasing a new phone at full retail once a year.
Luckily I have been with Sprint over 10 years so I qualify for gold otherwise I would never be able to convince my wife to spend more money on our cell phone bill.
Being able to deal with Sprint for over 10 years, I totally feel like I deserve the yearly upgrade! I have been on the phone for countless number of hours over the years with some of the worst customer service on the planet and had some of the most stressful phone calls with them.
As a long time customer, I must say they customer service has improved more then words can describe from where it was back in the day......
I'm new to Sprint.. Got the original EVO on launch and was wondering, what if I canceled my account, pay the ETF, and open another account?
You guys are having a lot of luck resetting your credit to $150. I spoke to supervisors and a whole slew of reps without any luck.

Etf is only $120, I'll open a new acct, switch numbers, then cancel the old one and sell my evo 4g. In the end, it might turn out to be a free phone.

A simpler thing to do would just add a new line then cancel the old one. Why go through to trouble of opening a whole new account.
Wouldn't it be much easier/cheaper to sell our Evos on Ebay for around $250 then buy the Evo 3D from Sprint for $425 (Assuming the Evo 3D is $500 minus the $75 rebate)? This all varies depending on the price of the Evo 3D and how much you can sell your Evo in Ebay.

Just checked that page and same thing.
It says June 1st $75 and 4/1/12 $150.
I am a little confused though. I am one year into my 2 year commitment. If i were to use this "upgrade" from Sprint, Would I be adding 2 years making it a 3 year commitment.
Not sure I want to to commit that long. Any idea what the outright price of the phone will be? Noticed you could also trade in my Evo for $150 account credit.

The upgrade pricing is for signing a new 2yr contract which takes the place of your current contract so you would be on a new 2yr contract, not 3yr.
They have a bunch of different options when signing a new contract like if are premier silver and only a year into your contract you can sign a new 1yr and get $25 off a new phone, or a new 2 yr and get $75 off a new phone (which you will be eligible for on 6/1). After your contract expires (4/1/2012) and you are eligible for a full upgrade you can get $75 off with a new 1yr and $150 off with a new 2yr contract.
The problem is that new phones have discounts and rebates which you're only eligible for with a full upgrade. As with the EVO the phone was $550 I believe w/ $100 mail-in-rebate, $150 upgrade, and it's $200 purchase price that comes to $450. The other $100 was an instant rebate that sprint gives you and I'm almost positive that you only get that rebate with the full upgrade price. I'm even pretty sure you're not eligible for the mail-in-rebate so the difference between the 1yr and 2yr upgrades is really about $275 rather than just the difference between $75 and $150. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

You would get the EVO 3d for the discounted price on the new line.
Now what can I do I have had the Evo since October and my upgrade was supposed to be this year but got it anyways the whole first month I exchanged it, all different problems. 3 times and now I have a white Evo with the same dust problems and light leak and a few dings on the top right any suggestions?
Sprint is starting to piss me off, they're trying to screw me out of my yearly upgrade and talking to customer service is a complete waste of time. Now I'm trying to post a question to sprints message board and this is the second night in a row it has gone down for maintenance at the very moment I try to post my question.... and now it's back up five minutes later.
Google 'customer service hall of shame' and you'll see Sprint's been number one for three or four years now.

[Q] HTC EVO 3D Upgrade Question

Okay quick question about the HTC EVO 3D upgrade. So when I text the number (I can't remember the number lol) with the word "upgrade" It tells me I'm not eligible until 5/1/2012. However, at my local radioshack, the rep informed me that I'm eligible for an upgrade on my line, and I could get the EVO 3D for $199 (also trade in my old EVO) Now, I'm just a little bit confused..how am I elgible for an upgrade now? Also, if I did upgrade, that would extend my contract meaning I won't be able to upgrade until 2013, right? Oh, and I heard about people talking about manual overide, what is that? Thanks sorry just a little bit confused.
the number is 1311. it's probably nest to check online or contact sprint and ask when your upgrade is. if you can get upgrade now, be sure to ask for a loyalty credit. it's at most $70 applied to your line for extending contract for two years. that is if you're planning on upgrading anyways.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Okay and you know anything about manual override
You will be able to upgrade after one year....2012. If you renew your contract for two more years again. Another great perk with Sprint....
Okay I'm so sorry for my noobness, but am I getting this right. I want to upgrade next year (actually may of next year is my 22 months mark) So let's says I got an Evo 3D its 199 with the 2-year contract. Meaning that I won't be able to upgrade until 2013. But I could request a manual override so I can upgrade next year? Lol once again sorry for so many questions...I just like to upgrade yearly as suppose to two year.
afaik, the override was for people who previously had premiere gold til they changed the requirements. they were letting people get their year upgrade that they were supposed to as if they were on gold. if you upgrade now, you can either upgrade again next year or two years from now depending on your status with them, premiere gold is every year I think. idk about silver
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Sprint has something called a tier override going right now til July 31st. My fiance wasn't eligible til Dec but we got her a Nexus S 4g yesterday for $99. I won't be up for upgrade til June 2012 but rep at store said he could do the tier override on mine and I could get an EVO 3D for $50 (after my EVO 4G trade-in). I told him I would think about it. I'll be going in today to pull the trigger on that LOL!
Okay..thanks I think I understand a little better. My only conodrum is that I want to get the Evo 3D, but I don't want to wait until 2013 to get another phone lol haha

Regarding the free ETF until september 30th

So, as much as I love the Evo 3d mine has some dead pixels, light leakage, and I do not find a use for the 3d and would rather have a better 2d camera. On september 16th the Galaxy S II comes out on Sprint, and it looks flawless minus the fact that the screen is not qHD, although the colors are suppose to look great.
If I cancel my phone ( I am on a family plan with 5 other phones ) and have my dad say I am leaving for college need to pay my own plan (I am not) and then sell my 3d, and open a new line with sprint on the same plan and buy the phone at the contract price? I would be able to use the money from the Evo and leave with a profit. Also, I know I would get a new number which I do not care about.
So, what do you think? Is this a good idea, and is it feasible?

LOL. I think u have to port your number to a carrier other than Sprint or its not considered porting ha but I could be wrong. That would be funny if you could port your number to a new Sprint line and get a new Sprint phone. That will save a lot of hassle for ppl who take advantage of $0 to get out of contract, switching to boost or virgin mobile than back to Sprint to get a new phone with a new customer 2 year price.

Damn. I'm half tempted to try this. Except it'll extend your family's contract, right? My parents wouldn't be so willing to wait a whole extra year to get out of this contract just for me.
I think it works like this. Go to boost of whatever , tell them I want to port .tell sprint that its because of the new policy. Port it over then go back and open a new line. Buy the galaxy then port it back. This won't extend any other lines.

Rather than the free ETF, why don't you have them end the contract, and ask to go month to month?
Alls you gotta do thereon is sign a new contract with the new changes, to get the sgs2 at the discount price.
Note on asking for month to month, it can be hit or miss. Just be personable and ask kindly, I guess.

Contract date and upgrade date are 2 separate things. Your contract runs 24 months, but they let you upgrade after 22 months (which starts the 24 months over).
If you want to keep your number, port it to a pre-paid cell phone.

How long to wait to port back?

Both of those lines are still on your account and the account is still in your name. So far as I understand it you can do this on a per-line basis. I don't think any line is considered the "main" line that anchors your account.

True, I always assume if you go thru retention, you never know what may happen.

Call them up and let them know that you would like to cancel that line without paying the ETF due to the material change in the contract verbiage. Phrase it however you see fit. I'm sure they hear it all.
The key point here is that every line is bound to your account by it's own contract. There's nothing fancy going on here.

How to work over sprint?

Howbdo people do it? Meaning I see people getting new phones all the time and claim they pay for the discounted price (like an upgrade). How is they possible I want to upgrade but i dont have one coming for another year and a half and I don't want to pay full price for a phone. So how do people do it? Any ideas lol?

The only way is you have to buy out your ETF on your line. I payed out mine last week, $160 per line and bought two new EVO 4G LTE's from Sprints EVP program at upgrade price. Even if you don't have EVP it is the same thing, call in *2 and tell them you want to buy out your ETF so you can upgrade your phone.
I have two lines and I keep them on a rotation. My mom uses the other line and every other year her phone upgrades. Like wise on the years hers doesn't mine does.
I use both upgrades and I get a new phone every year handing down my old phone to her. If she doesn't like my phone, I buy her a cheaper one at full price...they cheap ones are only about $150 bux max for a refurbished one.
The first time I tried this, they had the policy that I had to switch numbers with her, but they have since gotten rid of that policy. Shhhh, don't tell anyone.

It's all in how you speak to them... Surely, I think I found where the problem lies...
Buying out on exactly the 1year mark is very cheap. It's my work around for yearly upgrades.

That's the way to do it. Wish I had people who didn't care about their upgrades. I would do the same thing. I have 3 line family plan. I got away with it on my wife's line with my evo 4g which kept me open for my ego 3d. I'm screwed now though because I got two iPhones last Christmas one for my wife and one for my daughter.

I didn't "Work them over" I took advantage of an offer they have to buy out the remaining 10 months of waiting on my upgrade.
Once you get to 1 year left it costs about $115.
Considering I was going to TRY to find a used EVOLTE for around 350 when it hit that price, I beat that out by a few bucks (115 +200)
I plan on waiting for my 1 year mark. My 3D has been restarting randomly about once or twice a week for some reason. I'm not rooted and I've restored the phone twice already. I plan on getting it replaced and then selling it. Whatever I make will be used to pay for ETF and hopefully some of the new phone. Gonna wait to see the SG3 and then decide what I want.
Worst case scenario: They just fix my 3D and I sell it with only enough to cover ETF.
Best case scenario: They replace my 3D with an Evo LTE muahahahha!

how did you come up with 115? sprint etf chart states 240 for 12 months left? i'd love 115, would try that if i understood the difference.

If you got a launch 3D, sprints etf was alot cheaper then, I think it was around 200 for an etf vs the 350 it is now, so in that respect you should consider when you bought it and see what's up
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Or, you can wait until the insurance companies offer the EVO LTE as a replacement device and get it for only $100...or even free. I know for the Evo 3D it happened relatively quick. I think in just 3-4 months after it's release.

I got my 3vo on launch day last year...about one month shy of a year now if I remember correct...are you saying my etf was only $200 when I signed that contract? And if I decided to etf now I should get it at the lower rate?

That's exactly what I'm saying, if any changes have been made to your plan though they probably tried to tack on the new etf, sprint did that to me when I took my dad off my account. I had to call retention to get it back.
Tl;dr yes you should def get it for the cheaper rate

Save more with pre-order
Back in a bout february, Best Buy mobile held a promotion where you attached your email address to all lines that were available for upgrade in 2012. Later, when you upgrade, you get a $50 gift card which you can use towards the purchase. Additionally, they give another $50 for pre-ordering.
In short, I'm paying $100 for my EVO LTE, and using my sisters upgrade, (She can just wait till October or I'll give her my E3D, Its way better than the Optimus she's running on.

Correct.
Taken from the Sprint ETF Page:
If you've entered into a two-year contract after Sept. 9, 2011 and choose to terminate or cancel your service before your contract ends, you will be charged an early termination fee of up to $350/line for Advanced Devices & up to $200/line for all other devices. No early termination fee applies for cancellations in compliance with Sprint's Return Policy.
The early termination fee is prorated and is calculated by taking the months remaining on your Service Agreement times $20 for Advanced Devices, with a maximum of $350, and minimum of $100. For all other devices, the prorated ETF is calculated by taking the months remaining times $10 with a maximum of $200 and minimum of $50.
Use the charts below to calculate your exact early termination fee. If you are cancelling multiple lines on your account, calculate the remaining number of months on each line, locate the corresponding amounts and add them together to reach your total. If you entered into a contract prior to Sept. 9, 2011, use the other devices chart to calculate your exact early termination fee.
Also keep in mind you can usually sell your 1 year old Smart phone for $200-ish no contract if in mint shape. Mine are always in mint shape
So it generally will never cost more than $200 or so a year to stay current.
I passed my 3D on to my wife (which Sprint just replaced with a brand new one) and used her upgrade for the LTE.
So do you just call Sprint and tell them you wanna pay the ETF and go month to month off contract? I'm assuming that would allow you to upgrade for 2 more years at 199 for the Evo LTE.
I have the Best Buy buyback on my E3D, so I can essentially get the Evo LTE for free since they will give me about $240 in credit for it
good read here on it. I am very tempted, but I feel as if a functional sense 4.0 rom will be enough to hold onto the 3d for another year.
