Cyanogen7/custom kernel...problems with re-boots - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Right guy's,
I was asked to start this thread by Doomlord to see how many others are having problems flashing cm7 roms that contain the custom kernel.
When i flash the recent cm7 roms with k006 as soon as my screen times out or i switch it off with the power button(quick press)the phone goes into re-boot, it does not do it with the usb connected and my phone does not do it on any other rom even the cm7 that uses stock kernel.
I have tried everything i can think off to fix this issue from flashing repair with seus to using a brand new sdcard with just the cm7 update on to flash, i have run out of ideas, Doolord seems to think it is hardware related, please post if you are experiencing this problem, i am not concerned about wlod, this is a seperate problem.
When you post can you say which rom you have flashed and also which kernel, thanks in advance for your help, hopefully we can get this sorted.:
UPDATE..... THE LINK IS FOR THE BEST SOLUTION FOUND BY 9LUKAS5, HE HAS MADE A FLASHABLE ZIP TO SORT MINILOADER ISSUES OUT, SEE POST 28, PLEASE READ HIS OP AND GIVE THANKS.

Thanks for the info xperia, i think it may be down to k006, the thing is why do some have the problem and others don't?

Hey smartgardens iv just had an idea cant beleive i didnt think of this before! Have tried messing with settings on set cpu? I might be worth creating a screen off profile and have 384 as maximum scaling and 245 as the lowest or even perhaps raise the maximum up some more. Perhaps your processor just isnt getting enough juice!

Just a thought, it could be that your CPU can't handle the OC/UV of K006. Try doing a clean install with one of J's stock builds and then install set cpu on that. Configure set cpu to "On Demand", Max cpu to 998 and then enable "On Boot"
Boot into XRecovery, backup the ROM then flash J018. If you then do an advanced restore of the Data only from the backup you should end up with Set CPU installed and set to run on boot.

Iv tried doing data restores from v17 to v18 and get md5 mismatch even though iv not touched the file name.

Once before I've had a backup that had the same problem, I couldn't even do a complete restore from that backup. There is probably something wrong with the backup that's causing the problem.
I managed to do a Data restore from J013 to J018.

sounds promising, ill give it a shot now, even if i was about to install it with stock right now
edit: i cant install the stock one, cause when i flash stock kernel chargemon doomlord provided for me i stuck on se logo
what strange is, that when i leave my phone alone it doesnt reboot, but till i use it a few seconds "reboot" 2-3 times, then im in system again and if i leave it "no reboot",
maybe someone can post how i can delete the following from system/bin/chargemon via pc, adb
Code:
umount /cache
umount /sdcard
umount /cdrom
umount /data/DxDrm/fuse
killall -9 DxDrmServerIpc
insmod /system/kernel/splboot.ko
sync
cat /system/kernel/miniloader > /proc/splboot/image
cat /system/kernel/boot.img > /proc/splboot/boot_img
echo > /proc/splboot/boot

@Greatbigdog
Thanks for your advice, i have had a try of putting the setting to performence in cyanogen settings but it gave me cyanogen setting error message flashing up once the phone re-booted.
The thing is with vo17 stock my phone runs nice, i have flashed over that but got the same result, i have never tried setcpu, i will try your way later though and post back, thanks buddy.

guys some custom kernels (especially the ones ment for CM7) come with RAMDISKs integrated into the custom kernel and there is no seperate ramdisk available in /system...
so when u skip custom kernel booting the intended ramdisk is not executed and the necessary init scripts are never run... that could be the reason why some users (with CM7) are getting stuck when not using custom kernel for booting...
though the CM7 releases marked STOCK kernel should work... but even if those one are having the same issue then we need to search for another probable cause of the problem...

Hi Doomlord,
I have ran both zips that either provided boot with custom kernal/boot with stock kernal, the last time i used the latter my phone never booted, could this have done something in my partition on my phone?, other than that is the ram disk you are talking about in system/bin ramdisk tar, if so i will have a look.
What about the solution using setcpu, i thought the idea was right thats why the screen switches off and does not when usb is connected.
EDIT... Ok just started testing with setcpu settings/add profile, still the same issue, will activating perflock disabler do any harm?
EDIT... maybe you are right about ramdisk as i have not got one showing in system/bin
EDIT... I have now stopped the phone re-booting by flashing the 2 zips below, custom kernal is now showing in my about phone the only thing is i have wifi error, at least i have got somewhere with cm7 v018, the thing is what has this added to my phone to stop the re-boots?
To get wifi working i have tried the following with no luck, using root explorer copy and pasted from update v018 the kernal, module folder and the chargemon, the phone is still stable though and no re-boots, hope somebody now can work out what is the problem.

Had this problem once when I had the v018 stable and Gapps installed. The phone reboot and the problem didn't come back afterwards

Ok Guys i have finally fixed my phone, i have just flashed j's v19 with custom kernel k007, as soon as the screen went off it went into re-boot mode, this time i flashed j's provided bb52 using the latest flash tool, you have to create a bundle first, i flashed this bb 4 times in a row without turning on the phone, just pull the battery out, i turned the phone on and 30 minutes now without 1 reboot, hope this helps those who have been having the same trouble.

I have the same problem. Created a flash file with Js baseband in the flash tool.
Flashed it, had this problem. Smartgardens says we should flash this several times, but i cant see how that has any effect tbh?!

Well why don't you try it and post back, whats the point in starting a thread to help if you don't help yourself, i could not use the custum kernal either, as soon as i fladhed v019 k007this morning i had the same problem as you, doing what i posted sorted it.

you have to use the miniloader and the splboot.ko from z's incall volume fix kernel to fix that problem

How do we use it, where do we put it etc?

[kernel][10/17] "dopio" OC cm-2.6.29.6

Based off of htc-kernel-espresso repository from CyanogenMod github and a modified version of toastcfh's overclock patch.
espresso source based is for
espresso devices only
legend source based is for
espresso, legend, or aria devices
No support will be given, use at your own risk, DON'T FLASH unless you know what you are doing .
Version 3.5:
updated source to include interactive governor
added darchstar's patch to fix idle status being set NULL
added a 787 for those that can't do 806
incorporated changes into legend code base
http://www.mediafire.com/?9ziqlmh6vy26x
V4.0: (Requires setting scaling_max_freq in order to boot)
all frequencies included in one kernel.
added 480 back.
864 max
available frequencies: 245760, 400000, 480000, 600000, 768000, 787200, 806400, 825600, 844800, 864000
NOTE:
Since all frequencies are now playing nicely together, I am only going to be releasing one kernel version per source base.
It is up to you to set your maximum speed in your init.d files or you might not boot (since the maximum is 864).
For Those of you who have used my G1 kernels, this will not be an issue since you should know how to do it. For the others, good luck .
Essentially, you need to put something like...
Code:
echo 600000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
somewhere in your init.d files. Personally I like to use 00banner since it's first to execute on cyanogenmod.
Don't forget that if you swap out an init.d file you need to make the new one executable. For example...
Code:
chmod 0750 /system/etc/init.d/00banner
http://www.mediafire.com/?7jyeovzuo8lx9
archive:
http://www.mediafire.com/?v6cdcjyf04ebd
These are koush's anykernel.zip's that change your boot and system images. To return to your original state just do a nandroid advanced restore of the boot and system partitions (of course you have to of backed them up first).
github (master branch is legend base, oc-espresso-2.6.29 branch is espresso base. Default is set to espresso)
sweet, he's doing an overclock kernel?? thats awesome!

Lol I was gonna post to not try and set it to a performance profile as it breaks the overclock.
Great work though I'm finally so glad to see this. I flashed it and boot was quite a bit faster as well. A 91mhz gain seemed to make quite a difference. If this arm cpu will hit 800 then this phones gonna fly.
Ok noticing some lag here and there. I just did a quadrant bench and only scored 333. I have not did a reboot since I flashed it. Will try and report back.

was the lag on v1? if so the minimum frequency was dropping to 19mhz, that's why i had to do the next one.
never tried quadrant before...i kinda like
on test 1, i exerienced a TON of lag... i set min / max at 691 and got lag like a mofo >.> hopefully t3 doesnt lag so bad this time
quick question... if i do this kernel, and i dont like it, can i go back to the old one just by flashing the old one or would that break something??
you could easily make a backup boot image zip

This kernel is just for testing purposes. You don't want it for daily use. If you are not comfortable flashing random broken things, don't even bother with it. Currently it takes a big performance hit for 3d graphics and has no wifi.

[Q] Stuck in bootlogo after installing data2sd

Help plz. I had heard that it would take ages however about 1 and a half hours have passed, it is still stuck in bootlogo. What can I do?
Hi...what you do is remove the program manually through xrecovery...get into xrecovery and scroll down to partition tools...then go to mount usb...from there scroll and find the file on your computer...i forget the exact name but i think its called "data image". Delete that via usb from your computer and it should solve it.

tyvm, it's solved
anytime =)
The only way to install data2sd without bootloop issue is to flash it using xrecovery at the same time as new rom. NO REBOOT INBETWEEN!!! Worth doing tho as its working on mine with cm 2.2 v4.5 with 4.5.7update and boosts quadrant score from 1400 to 2400. So I installed 4.5 zip 4.5.7 zip gapps zip then data2sd zip with no reboot in-between. Works a charm
Sent from my x10i running custom CM 2.2 rom. Quadrant score 2490
Do you actually see a notable change? I feel a quadrant score is just a quadrant score and no drastic effect can be seen.
Two big improvements are no lag when running multiple apps in background and an extra 45 MB of phone memory
Sent from my x10i running custom CM 2.2 rom. Quadrant score 2490
Also stuck at bootlogo...
But since installing data2SD i am also unable to acces xRecovery
I even tried it without SD card and SIM card but with no luck.
So i'm still stuck at the SonyEricsson boot logo.
What are my alternatives to regain access?
BTW: Using CM7 2.3.3
Flash the original SE rom using flashtool..I had the same..you need to be quick to press 'ok' if flashtool asks you to connect ur phone in recovery mode.
check the topsticky in this forum.

Thanx, I'll read that sticky.
Do i also need to flash another baseband (currently on .52), which matches the SE firmware?
And with flashing the original firmware, does it also mean that i need to install xrecovery again?

[Q] Frequent random reboots [KS2/KS3 stock/custom]

hi.
i flashed stock rom S5830XWKS2 through Odin. the phone started rebooting randomly.
then i flashed custom rom TheMyth KS3 but the problem kept getting worse. when i'm using the phone, it reboots every few seconds.
i flashed stock rom S5830XWKS3. but the Baseband version in the phone didnt change (S5830XWKS2). and the problem is still persistent.
the phones does not do full reboot. it freezes, the screen goes black, then goes strait to the boot animation.
also, if it reboots while transferring files through mass usb storage, the transfer doesnt stop, to continues normally.
1. any idea why is this happening?
2. why didnt the baseband version change when i flashed KS3?
3. do you recommend another stock rom to flash.
p.s: KS3 seems fast. i got 1040 score in quadrant on stock rom.
i would appreciate any help. thanks

Hey !
The Baseband Version is KS2 while Build is KS9 (in my stock rom)
If you end in Bootloops, press Power + Home till you get into recovery, then Clear data/Factory Reset and clear Cache, then reboot.
Come back and tell me if it worked for you.
Greetings
thank you for your reply.
it's actually not a bootloop. the phone boots normally and works fine for some times (few seconds/minutes) then it freezes for few seconds, then the screen turns black for a second, then shows the boot animation (doesn't show the boot screen with the samsung logo). it works fine for some time, then again.
it seems that the problem is related to the wifi. it only happens when wifi is on.
On Samfirmware.com they say that you should make a Factory Reset after flashing, maybe that works for you ? I flashed the KS9 Stock today and had some problems till I did this in Recovery. Else I would have no Idea, maybe reflash or get another Version ?
You could also try to install any custom Rom, like Jusada´s ICS for example, just to test if there are problems with CM also ..
Umm, maybe a question to those who only touch the Earth to answer our Newb questions...is it possible that the Ace restarts when it get´s attacked from the outside ? I faced that after flashing a Rom that I modified and didn´t have the right Permissions the Phone restarted/bootlooped when I tried to install any App (\data\app wasn´t set correct)
Greetings
thank you. i guess i'll try to flash again. or maybe try a different stock.

[Q] Motorola Atrix MB861 problems after installing AOKP + Aroma Installer

I just installed this AOKP+Aroma Installer ROM from this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580449
And I have NEVER been able to get past the Start-Up screen. It reboots every 30 seconds from the moment I press "Start". Is anybody else having this problem with this ROM as well?
I'm using a Korean Atrix btw, MB861. I would REALLY appreciate the help!
EDIT: Okay, so I've gotten past the start-up screen by skipping everything (setting up time, Google account, etc.) and now I got to the lock screen. Now, if I don't touch the phone at all, it stays on. But once I try to unlock the phone, it is 100% SURE to reboot 30 seconds right after I unlock it. Is there no workaround for this??

I was on the stock ROM, GB 2.3.5, MB861...
I also used CWM Recovery to flash this, not ROM Racer's recovery, because for some reason ROM Racer's recovery didn't want to work on my Atrix. =.=
Atrix is its unlocked?
recovery is new? which?
I used CWM Recovery to flash this, not ROM Racer's recovery, because for some reason ROM Racer's recovery didn't want to work on my Atrix. And yes, phone's bootloader was unlocked an hour before I flashed the ROM..

I hope you do not mind so many questions ... lol
you have to do a "format / system" is needed .... (in recovery).
then you'll probably lose touch in recovery, proceed with the installation aroma ...
up / down = volume
enter = power button
= capacitive return any key.

I already did that, twice. And still the same problem.
ok .... then try fastboot wipe (it worked for some users).
I get this also with all ics roms but im having bp problems that are probably causing that.. nottach 1.3.1 and darkside stripped down are only reliable, stable roms I can run personally... and even those its only in boot android bp pass mode. Cold boot linux.

In AROMA set Full Wipe, and try to install only one Launcher, and take a look Kernels screen, check your Kernel and select the correct, i think you are trying some FauxKernel try original 1100 or your kernel...
I've tried installing all three of Joker's kernels (1.0, 1.3, 1.45) and still my Atrix goes haywire. I've tried all kinds of installs (Default, Custom, Full Wipe, Non Wipe, etc.) but none have worked. I wanted this ICS ROM so bad! Is there anything I have to do before I flash this ROM again? I've flashed it maybe 10 times or so now.
Which is your Kernel? Try the oders, the firsts 4 Kernels, like 1100 and others, stock kernels.
I don't know if I want to try installing another kernel, because I don't want to brick my Atrix. I've tried looking for kernels that were made for AOKP, but to no avail. Maybe you could give me a link to a good kernel that will work for AOKP? It's been half a day, and I still haven't been able to use my device...
EDIT: I also noticed that I don't have any service, and the backlights for the softkeys aren't lighting up. So I now have three things to deal with: constant reboot, no service, and softkeys backlights.
you can install rom joker?
I haven't tried installing other ROMs... Do you mean this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445052 I'll be downloading and installing it ASAP. I hope the problem goes away.

I wasn't able to download Joker's ROM, however, I have tried other ROMs, namely Neutrino and the Official CM7 for Atrix. I noticed one thing that both ROMs worked properly, but they didn't have Google Apps pre-installed, so I had to get and install Gapps separately. Then, when I installed the Gapps, that's when the rebooting problem started again. I think my problem has something to do with Google Apps...
I have similar problem when I did install the AOKP from for the first time. It become unstable. I did fastboot to flash the wrapped the phone and install again with (current version is 37a) and it's become quite stable now.

Problem is fixed!... For now.
I was doing a LOT of research today, and I found some info about rebooting Atrixes which involved radios. I studied this, and I found out that by flashing the correct radio file, I could potentially solve this issue. I just flashed this radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260963 and the issue seems to be fixed. I am currently on this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257574 and so far, the phone has been smooth as butter! I have yet to try with AOKP. I am going to report as soon as possible regarding this ROM. But so far, everything is A-OK! Thanks for all the help, everybody! You have all been very helpful!

Kernel restoring to stock.

Hi, I have problem with restoring my kernel to stock. I am using CM11, and JBX Kernel. I did mistake, becouse i flashed JBX with all default options, like battery friend, which locks OC, and i cannot change it with Trickster MOD permamently, it changes back after all reboot. Than i flashed it again and choosed options i wish to install, but after i see things like battery friend stayed installed. Beouse i flashed it twice i rewritten my stock kernel backup -,-
I'd like to use JBX kernel, but without battery friend (which downgrades core speed to 1000), with disabled 10% battery mod, and i want to be able to OC.
I dont wanna to flash any full custom rom, leave my CM11 as it is, and just reinstall kernel. Found some stock kernels in stock roms .zip, but i cannot flash it with Safestrap. Triend to do it with BMM, but i cant see there my CM11 partition -,-
Please tell me what sould i do

You can do it in many ways:
1.Open Trickster, tap on the settings, you will see "Set on boot" tab, just check "Kernel settings"
2.Open some file explorer, find Battery friend,I don't remember exactly where it is,etc/kexec or sys/kernel,open it with some text editor and change it from 1 to 0
3.Or you can just dirty flash the rom over everything

1. I dont have any set on boot tab... Do i need to get donation trickster?
2. Found it, and it is set to 0, but everytime i reboot my core speed is limited to 1000, and battery friend is set to ON, i dont have any apps which sets something on boot.
3. I dont wanna to flash full rom :/
BMM has option to flash kernel, but I cannot find my partition made in Safestrap :/
Maybe someone with stock kernel could download jbx kernel package, flash it and while flashing just make only backup of his kernel, and than upload it to me?

1.You must have it,just tap on the settings icon in the top right corner or you can pull it with your finger from right to left and check that empty square next to "Kernel setting".
