[Q] before buying streak few questions - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
sorry for my english
I have a few questions before buying Streak
1-How long will you stand up battery
2-What quality headphones are included in the streak
3 - Does anyone has a psp and psp can compare the weight and the streak
4-How LCD visibility in the sun
I would buy the LG G2X with two cores, but I like the streak is 5 "
I fear for support from Dell for the streak, that streak is no longer supported by Dell
I talked to dell support by chat, I was assured that Android 2.3 will come to him, it might not be so bad
Thank you for your help

Dell Streak in India...

as I am heavily linked in my job with India, I just got the message on the table, that from tomorrow on Dell will deliver Streak to India ( source: http://bit.ly/9zyGk9 ).
Interesting then to see, what the clever Indians (who are the innovator of chess) will do with Android programming and the Streak. Hope there is a good output of new applications. Any Indian here in the forum ?
By the way... I posted a question about Dell Streak Skins here ? - If anybody knows a source I would be very thankful. So fare...
TC / SM2010 from sunny-thunder-stormy Hamburg (yet without radio active fallout)
no it will not
the link that you have put up is for dell usa release and not India!! dell plans to release streak in india sometime in october (even that is not sure). i hate the fact we have to wait forever to lay our hands on technological marvels. by the time streak will get launched here, i am sure streak 2 with much better specs will be out in the usa/uk. while the whole world has iphone 4, we dont even get iphone 3gs here (its 3g that we can buy here)!!!!
yeah
I am from India and I'm loving my streak This is going to be my third android phone . Waiting for my phone to charge so I can upgrade to 2.1 ...

[Q] dell streak vs hd2

Hi All,
Sorry if this has been asked before.
I have an HD2 that I have flashed one of the Android roms on XDA just 2 days ago. I have to say I love it. Now started to seriously think about streak. I have a question about the screen quality of Streak. Is it as crisp as HD2?
I had a chance to play with a display sample in one of the local stores here in Dubai.
I found the Streak inferior to HD2. But I also seriously suspect that there was something wrong with that unit.
I will very much appreciate if I can have some views.
Thanks
I bought the streak at full price and returned it a week later. It wasn't worth that much to me. Now that my account is data enabled, I'm trying to get the streak again because I don't get 3g with the hd2.

If you have used streak for about a week how do you compare the screen quality of the 2?
Is streak as crisp as HD2?
Thanks

Had both, the only similarity between the two is they both have decent size screens, and that's it.
Let's face it, the windows app market even including omarket is a complete joke.
The HD2 UI is a joke, (i used cookie home tab).
Wifi reliability on the HD2 is a joke, i ended up hating my phone because it used to tell me that i was connected to my wifi when infact i wasn't
I thought my first HD2 must be a bad example so i sold it and bought another, same problem
Build quality on a HD2 is better.
Opera 10 great, which is completely different to opera mini.
The screen's better on the streak.
Battery life is better on the streak.
App market is excellent.
I have owned both and if you dont mind a larger phone the streak is head and shoulders above the hd2 IMHO.
The streak was pretty much the same to me as far as crisp but I'm probably the wrong person to ask for those kinds of details. I have just as much a good time with the hd2 as I can with the streak. I just hate not having 3g.

I have both and love both. HD2 running CM 6.1. HD2 feels more sturdy. Streak is just plain better. Mainly because of the screen size.
Haven't experienced any issues with both devices so it's purely a matter of taste which one you'll like more. HD2 does give you an option to run whichever Android ROM you like easily without messing up whole system.
The build quality difference is like the difference between Dell Latitude D and E series, if you know what I mean. HD2 being D and Streak - E.
I have them both side by side right now. The extra screen size is nice. The quality is good on both. I would take the Streak over the HD2 any day.
As soon as i got the streak the HD2 was sold, only one device would make me sell my streak and that would be the Streak 2 next year when its out
So following the advices I got myself one yesterday. In a few hours updated to 2.2. This is a great device. All I need now is the it guys in my company to get it to sync with exchange server.
Dell_Nero syn software is a peace of crap. Looked to me like an itunes wannabe, failiure.
Does anyone have a sync software to get my appointments from my pc outlook to my streak? This seems to be my only trouble now.
Thank you all for your comments and recommendations.

I got mine a couple days ago since they were on sale. Had to cancle a line and re-open a replacement account so they didnt charge me a cancelation fee. Gave the hd2 to my son and thwt felt like I was giving away my baby or something.

I wanted to share my experience with the Streak vs my HD2 and didn't want to start another thread.
Firstly, I LOVE my HD2. I've only had it 6 months, but in that time, it was mostly pain and heartache for me. I knew the hd2 is a great phone, just winmo 6.5 was letting it down. In finally settled on an custom Energy winmo rom, which was great, but nowhere near as great as Android. I loved android on the hd2, but it was always a bit slow, and battery life was very bad. But I was happy to put up with that, until the RAM version came out a few weeks ago, and I finally had my ideal phone and I loved it.
One of the reasons I loved the hd2 so much was because of the big screen. My friends who all own iphones tell me it's too big, but as long as it fits in your pocket, it's not too big a phone.
When I found out about the streak, I had to go out and check it out. The first thing I did when I saw it was put it in my pocket ... it fits! I'm buying it.
I walked out of the shop and put my sim card in and used it for a few hours. It was running ok under the stock 1.6, but about 2 hours later, all radio controls died. No phone, no 3g/data, no wifi or bt. I took the phone back the next day and after a lot of arguing got another one. It has been fine since (been less than a week). I upgraded to 2.2 and it's running fine.
How do they compare? I love the streak's big screen, but I do like my hd2, and am regreatting paying so much fo the streak.
The hd2 is about as big a phone as you can go while still able to operate it with 1 hand. I use swype and can pretty much do everything with 1 hand, which is handy when I'm walking around. The hd2 also lets me run winmo, which although is crap as software I like to run which is not available on Android. I like the flexibility of having both, and now with Windows Phone 7 out for the hd2, it really is the most versatile phone out there. I didn't know it until I didn't have it, but I got used to the HTC Sense. Mainly cause they have many cool widgets and refinments not availble on the standard 2.2. The dual led flash light is also much brighter on the hd2 than on the streak. Also for some reason my hd2 gets a MUCH MUCH higher quadrant score than the streak. I'm not sure why.
So while the hd2 has its fault, for me the hd2 set up like how I've got it is about as good as a phone gets. Plus you can pick up a used one for cheap. The streak offers pretty much the same specs with a bigger screen. So if the big screen (which still fits in your pocket) is important to you, get the streak. If you're a tweaker who likes to play around with roms and software, then get the hd2
Hey guys...
Speaking of streak vs hd2, in my opinion streak advance in it's hardware (has it all, bigger screen, bigger ram and a front cam) but hd2 advance in rom versatility (wm 6.x, android, and even wp7)...
So is there a chance that the streak could get that kind of rom versatility (able to use wm 6.x and wp7 also)???
HTC HD2 = My most favorite ever, for now.
Versatile, small (compared to Streak), yet very elegant. Camera was pretty good too. (custom rom)
I find that it lacked some apps I wanted, and the synchronization wasn't 100% with my google accounts. (And not free) and most important only 2G on AT&T
Dell Streak = Huge, Android 2.2, breathed new life into my mobility.
The bad. Battery life, camera not too good, size?

Buy one streak and change my galaxy s

Hi guys
Can you help me with this question?
I love android and android system.
I have try one HTC g1 one Motorola milestone and finally i work fine with my galaxy.
But in some case i want a screen bigger than the 4 inch of galaxy.
My question is very simple... I don't want one tablet but i want just a smartphone with 5 '' inche and the dell is perfect for me!
But i have read some bad opinion... Can you suggest me if is a good idea change my galaxy s for one dell streak? If the new software version, also some Rom not official, increase the experience may be that i can change my smartphone but actually my galaxy s with a unofficial Rom fly and work fine.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I think most of the bad opinions about the streak have come from people who bought it locked to ATT. They didn't get the 2.2 froyo update right away.
If you buy it unlocked from Dell, you pay a higher price, but you get better support.
I came from a Samsung Galaxy S phone called the Captivate.
Hands down the galaxy S line is dog****.
With 2.2 froyo on Dell streak, there is no lag, working gps and it works as expected flawlessly all the time.
there really is no decision to make.. this will hold me off until the next version of the streak comes out...
Thanks guys
I think that the normal Italian.version is free and not locked... And with your post I thing that if will found a good product... I will change my galaxy.. And i will use a smartphone bigger but always portable!
What is your comments about camera? Work fine?

I recently bought my wife a Galaxy S, so got to play with it a bit. Really like the Super Amoled Screen, a real improvement from Amoled (my previous Samsung Omnia HD).
However, I still prefer and LOVE my Streak, the 4 inch screen looks ways smaller compare to the 5 inch. I love the big screen because I watch a lot of movies on it. By saying that, I did also buy myself a Captivate as my back up phone
If you want a good screen phone but scared of the big screen, why not wait for the Galaxy S2 which has the 4.3 inch screen. But personally 4.3 would still be too small for me.
Streak is a good size not too big at all, easily fit in loose pockets
dear dmax99
your opinion is exactly the same for me: i think that 5'' can be the good size for.a.people.that want work fine with the smartphone and not use the tablet.
i don't know why all the factory produce only 4.3'' as maximum dimension of the screen.
this is the real situation... for example now i can choose.. or buy in April maybe the new galaxy s 2 but with only 4.3'' or try to find one streak but at this moment the streak is not dual core and without tegra... do you know if exist a new.device with this new hardware but with 5'' of display?

Best Alternative To Discontinued Streak?

What is the best option if your streak has an early retirement? I am thinking the Samsung Galaxy Note or the up and coming IBM 5 Inch Tablet. Any ideas for this endangered species? We need to be thinking about this right now or we will have some serious withdrawals when all of our phones die.

......there's only 1 device for every Streak users to upgrade to, and this is the Galaxy Note. There's nothing more to say or anything else in the market to consider beside the Note which is far more superior than our Streak! Problem is the price but it is more affordable now on ebay, 600-680usd.
I finally said goodbye to my beloved Streak 5 and sold it off to a happy new home. It served me well, providing just over one year of joy (not without some pains of course). It's a pity that the device reached 'EOL' so soon. I guess Dell decided that Android tablets were not their strength.
Thanks go to all the talented members on this forum for having helped to make the device such a joy to use despite the challenges.
Although I'm sentimental and was sad to let it go, I can't wait to lay my hands on the Galaxy Note asap! As Final5K stated, the Note is the only device for us ex-Streakers now
Unless something changes, probably going the Note route after the 1st of the year. Hopefully the price will drop just a bit after Christmas, and hopefully someone state side picks it up "officially", although I plan to by a carrier unlocked version.
Everyone? But do you think the Samsung Note is going to be as modible as the streak. I mean it seams like you hack the balls of your streak and then glue them back on. I just hope there is a lot of support and hackable/modible support for the Samsung Note!
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
I'd also consider the new galaxy nexus. I know the screen is smaller but it's still a behemoth (hardware- and screensize- wise) with a 4.65'' 720p display.
Regarding the hackability you're better off checking the phones' threads here on xda to get yourself a quick idea of how things are going to evolve. My prediction? the galaxy nexus will be modded, haxxored & supported beyond imagination.
If you think about it, the streak modding community is unfortunately too small. As it has been said over and over many times, the point is not that dj steve, fards and all the other few great guys are not "good enough", but the strength of the hacking/ROM community is in the BIG numbers, and you can bet your house the galaxy nexus will deliver.
Not sure about the galaxy note though. As the streak, its size makes it a niche device, and although sammy is supporting his product way better than dell (at least with proper advertising, clear upgrade schedules etc) i guess the big numbers of the above will not come to the note.
therefore, for my next phone I'm willing to sacrifice a small amount of screen real estate in favor of an incredibly bigger community, with all the benefits/ major geekery that come with it. I'll surely keep an eye on the note though, since it will take a while before I change device. Who knows, I could be proved wrong..
Not so sure about the Note
before reading the comment on the galaxy note's thread, i would've agreed with you about it to be the "after streak" phone.
i was really interested in buying a Note, but now i'm not so sure, because i've read too much comments about screen, gps and bluetooth problems.
i don't know, it looks like a good device, but too many users wrote about the same problems, so i don't know what to do

If you look at the Streak forums here, you will also see many people whining about the Streak. So, unless you are ready to do some compromise, every phone has its flaws. Nearly every forums on the xda have people complaining about problems - there is no exception!
My 1 year old white best buy unlocked Streak is a totally perfect device for me. Yes as with any phone out there it used to have its flaws. And lately the microphone does perform too good.
I am a huge reader, reading absolutely everywhere and everytime. Actually I was reading when I realized I wanted to check xda a couple of minutes ago. And yes, it is my Dell Streak that I read on. For me it's almost flawless.
But I made up my mind to try something else. I used to have one of the very 1st iphones out there. And I believe I was one of the first users out there who threw up on it and sold it because of its...hm...I'd say incomplexity. I used to own all the best symbian devices as well including the monster e61, beautiful e71, gargantuan n97 and mysterious Maemo based n900 (the fastest texting ever!!!). I tried blackberry as well. Now it seems with my Streak bot being able to deliver the clear voice experience I'm going to try something new. Like good old Dell Venue Pro, windows phone. Surely it's going to be some kind of downgrade, but I'd still want to try some new experience, especially sweet for 179$ on outlet. We'll see. And if I don't like it, my choice is going to be either the colossal note or sgs 3 ehich might come up soon. Last week I had to use dad's iphone 4s for 1 day. I could not hold it in my hand. It was too small. It was too freaking small. And the screen was annoyingly small as well!!!!!!!! Truly cannot understand small screeners these days.
P.s. just wanted to add (right, tastes differ) that Dell Streak is one off the best looking devices for me. And not only for me. Several friends of mine told me it's an absolutelly stunning and clean design.
P.p.s. Go, Dell. You used to be the biggest guy in the hood. Now you have to be the smartest.

It would be very interesting if Dell went ahead and released the Opus One after Christmas - bearing in mind the weird screen hue of the Samsung Galaxy Note, I'd like to see what Dell could do as a Streak 5 successor...
Cheers
Brian
Lenovo released it for them, they called it the LePad S2005, it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect the "opus one" to be.
Most of ex-streakers/early adopters of the Streak have sworn never to buy any phone from Dell due to the number of problems they've encountered and deceptions about support.
It is really surprising that people still want to buy/longing for Dell phones after they've let the streak down and not releasing a GB rom for so long!
I love my white Super Streak, but I'm definitely going to get the Samsung Note. It was announced today that AT&T will be getting the Samsung Note 4G version in 2012. One of the AT& T store reps told me that it will probably be sometime in the first quarter, after the CES conference. Check out the following articles:

+1. Dell couldn't care less about their customers.
Imo the Galaxy Nexus is definatly worth considering
With a 4.65" screen (0.35" smaller than the streaks) I doubt you would notice the difference (I didn't)
Having guarantee updates and developer base would be quite refreshing
The Galaxy Note is an impressive device, but for that price..

Well the 4.65 is smaller than the 5" from the Streak. I've noticed a big difference when using these smaller screen devices. Thing is the first few hours will make you miss the large screen of the Streak, but past 1 day, you'll get adjusted to the smaller screen. Still, there is nothing comparable to the 5.3 inch of the Note --> saved money people and get the Note instead - it's definitely worth the investment.
Finally got my SG Note 2 days ago, and I can see now how badly Dell messed up with the Streak. I realise now in retrospect how many compromises I was forced to accept in comparison to the Note. Anyway, we did not have much of a choice due to screen size, so I have no regrets tho. Thank you Sammy for bringing us an alternative ....and what an alternative! indeed! Honestly, the Note rocks and my Streak experience is fast becoming a distant memory...
This sucks. I have an AWS streak on tmobile it took a long time to find one after I found out they were even made. Now its been a year and I want something fresh and new but I have no good options for tmobile. Switching carriers is not an option I have to nice/cheap of a grandfathered plan. The new nexus might be nice but I just got my wife a galaxy s2 and even 4.5" seems to small so 4.6 is not going to cut it. So what is there for me? I search at least once a week for the next 5"+ phone. I would buy the note but no 3g =no good. So anyone know of any other large phones coming soon for tmobile bands?

I got gs2 as a replacement for the dell steak after I got fed up with the lagging and the buggy build by Dell for O2
And I can confirm the screen size is really matter, 4.5 is small Vs Dell steak
So diffenetly I am going for the Note. But its very expensive in the Uk

Samsung
Again samsung, if you are wanting maybe a bit of a smaller screen but still big and want a really powerful device and yet stable custom roms and a bigger community (personaly again as the streak did I don't think the note will have a big audience) I have gone for the Samsung Galaxy S II as this is one of the most popular phones, I went to a friends party to day and three people had the same phone as me. (I found out as we videoed a friend taking of in a heli of our friends front lawn!)
I think that if you go down that route you will have much more of a wider range of roms and a bigger community to help when things go wrong
Plus the bigger the device the more prone to damage!
Hope this helps and would love replies

[Q] Apart from the Galaxy Note, what will you get to replace the Streak?

Hi everyone,
Since the Opus One never materialised, and the Streak is getting quite old in the tooth inside, what have you been thinking of as a replacement? The Galaxy Note seems to be having a lot more success than the Streak ever did, but it's a bit too far outside of my price range as a replacement and I now have an ASUS Transformer so I don't need a Tabphone any more.
Watching a video of the official ICS upgrade for the Nexus S was the final straw for me for some reason with my Streak. I've had it on unofficial ROMs since I got it, but none of them ever made it feel like a non-beta device. I still suffer from random reboots and Dell logos of death when I'm using the Streak, mainly at times when I need a phone the most, so I'm really up for getting a replacement.
Since I'm on a limited budget and on PAYG (GiffGaff FTW) I've been eyeing up a used Nexus S or HTC Desire Z on eBay to tide me over until something better comes out that I can afford. So, apart from the Note/Galaxy S II/Galaxy Nexus, what are you thinking of?
Well since I've heard rumors that Dell is making a "Dell Streak 2" (An update to Dell Streak 5) I think I might be going with that if it's true.
But I'm sticking with Dell Streak till the end.
With the 2.3.3 update the device reached from the level Bad-Ass to Mega B0$$ (With the $'s)

thinking about the rumors about it, a beautiful replacement would be the future samsung galaxy s3. i know it will be very expensive, sut i'm still waiting to buy a note since the first time i heard those amazing rumors about the s3.

I'm thinking of the Skyrocket from AT&T, but will probably hold out for a quadcore device. The Kal-el chip looks like it rocks! If the rumors hold out true for the Galaxy S3 (quadcore Exynos, 2GB RAM, 12MP camera, 1280x720 screen), it sounds like it would be the one to beat...we'll see what happens in the next few months.
.... HTC Sensation XL !
