[Q] HTC Aria linpack 32.62?? - HTC Aria Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so I just ran a linpack benchmark on my Aria and got the result of 8.903. I decided to save it since that was the highest I got. I went on the greencomputing website to see the best results for the Aria and the highest one was 32.62 mflops. I wonder if that is even possible on the Aria? If so, how do I get that rom/kernel which gets my that amount of speed. the guy had a dell streak rom and was clocked to 998.4 mHz. here is the link --- http://www.greenecomputing.com/apps/linpack/linpack-by-device/

btw, I am running CM7 on my Aria.

Why do you want that much speed? 806 is fine. Speeds that high would toast the processor. And the phone would get hot so fast.

I know but I'm just wondering how that guy even got his phone to fully boot up at that processor speed. Also, I am wondering if his phone exploded after that. Really, How is that speed even possible? Also, if you look at other results in that list, you will see that people got it to work on 864 which is impossible for the CM7 kernel. So that really makes you wonder how...

Doesn't really make me wonder... Here's the deal, that guy (or girl) has a hobby. His hobby is seeing how high he can get linpack for android to run. To accomplish this he can go about it one of two ways.
Either he took apart his aria, overclocked the hell out of it, added additional cooling and custom built an optimized kernel for 1 purpose - running linpack for android while unstable. (it's not a phone anymore)
A more logical approach would be to run linpack in an emulator, and spoof linpack into thinking it's running on an aria.
Hope this helps clear up some of the confusion.

[DISCUSSION] 1.6Ghz achieved and benched on Vibrant (supposedly)

After last weeks DX farce with 2Ghz and 3Ghz Im cautious however these guys seem to have the benchies to back it up. We've long heard the potential for the hummingbird was 1.6. Only sad part is they say no Fascinate development till they get one. Removing the 56fps cap is nice too
I've never heard of these guys before? Legit? Renowned? Anyone know.
I would say all is BS until proven other wise. In my opinion the hardware would burn up at those speeds.

Agreed. 1.6 has long been discussed as an achieveable speed. Dirrk was tinkering with it weeks ago. Its voltage requirement obviously is high and near the threshold point given the non-active cooling for the cpu. But I would not be surprised this could be achieved. I mean shoot we have 1.25Ghz on less than stock voltage already.
Benchmarks in one hand, stability in the other. When I see a posted kernel with good reviews for a week or so, I'll do more than raise an eyebrow. lol.
It's on the OCLF kernel, which if I remember, is well known for posting high quadrant scores without giving any real performance benefit.
Also, benchmark overclock's in the desktop world are always just for demonstration, not an application. Ever seen that 7GHz overclock benchmark they did on a Pentium 4?
This is no BS. The devs working on this are reputable and put out some of the best Vibrant ROMs out there. They're stable at 1.6ghz and are talking about pushing it to 1.8/2.0.

This doesn't suprise me. I could push my Droid to 1.32ghz. That's well over a 100% overclock. Achieving a 60% overclock shouldn't be too hard, especially on newer and much better hardware.
I find it tough to believe that most phones will be stable at a 60% overclock. Granted, Im only speaking from my experience with desktop CPUs... What type of software do people run to test stability?

What has been your experience with desktop cpu's. I cannot remember the last desktop cpu I have which at least 50% so I dont find 60% outrageously unreasonable. Active cooling obviously makes a difference.
With the battery life Im seeing on Dirrks UV kernels and even what I got on stock voltages pre-OC I would feel confident I could still get a full day off a 1.4-1.5Ghz hummingbird even if the voltage had to be raised to 1400mv.
I'm having trouble with stability with the 1.2 OC kernals...
So I checked out the thread in the vibrant section. This is def for real! Looks awesome! I had trouble with dirrks lv 1200. But every other kernel has ran fine. I'm sure that eventually we'll have everything we can dream on this phone. Good thing its already so great that I don't mind waiting. I hope I don't have to find an excuse to exchange my phone in search of one that can handle more.

@teamwhiskey is a god send. they have pulled the download though,due to flaws in their kernal. they are in the process of re-vamping it and re-testing. it seems while the kernal did improve performance it is unknown how much because it was also manipulating the internal clock speed.

Yes this is for real. I personally run it. Heres quadrant I ran last night. This kernel should be ported to all SGS phones. As long as they get a good dev with this phone to help port.
CPU didnt see near the gain I had hoped it would.
ya the CPU is getting destroyed by the N1. And what is with the ridiculous I/O. Did someone port a PCI express array of SSD's on the Vibrant? Maybe they just developed the GOD file system.

I am on a mesmerize niw coming from a vibrant. I used this kernel. There was a timing issue. The io scores come from oclf which cheats quadrant. Those guys have released a pretty stable 1.4 oc that is real. I got 68 fps in neocore. Truth be told guys there is no need for oc in my opinion. With froyo the phone plays flash easily. Only application of oc to me is emulation and bragging rights. A good voodoo kernel works wonders honestly.

[Q] Benchmarks?

Does anyone feel like posting their benchmarks on the custom ROMs they are running? I know not every GTab will run the same but I would like to get a basic idea of what the hottest scores are. Thanks.
TNT Lite 4.3.x with stock kernel is ~40 fps (Nenamark) and ~2300 in Quadrant. On average.
There are definitely higher scores than that, with some of the other modded ROMs.

Thank you guys for posting your benches. I had seen some one some where, posting that they get 60fps. Any one getting 60fps?
there is guide in dev forum where you can get up to 77fps, but the recomended is under 75.
You might mean the frame rate. The default is 50, but TNT Lite and gADAM up the frame rate to 60. At least one mod ups it to 77.
That's not really a benchmark, though - I assumed you meant something like Quadrant.
Im running caulkins rom and clemsyn's kernel #6. I'm averaging around 2400 on quadrant and 3000 on smartbench. The only thing faster on smartbench is overclocked xoom
It looks like most of the new ROMs run pretty fast. If i can get 2200-2500 in Quadrant I will be happy.

I have the same setup on my gtab... got 39.1 fps in nenamark, and 2399 in quadrant.
I just set my gtab up today so it doesn't have much on it yet.
There is a post in the development section by chengu that has a loopback fix that enhances read/write speeds on the internal SD. This makes the I/O part of quadrant way faster. I have posted on that thread vegan stock 10x average is 2500+. With the loopback fix its a 10x average of 3100 with peaks of 3333. So no its not BS but really how much do quadrant (or any other test) effect daily functionality.? It is great for bragging rights though, especially to xoomers.

Fyi: restart your tab 5 or six times, I know I sounds weird but it takes that many to streamline it completely. Let it stabilize after boot and then power down, wait 20 sectonds and and power on. It wil take up to six minutes on first boot and get less each time.
It uses boot time to write changes.

Is there any down fall to using the loop back fix? Heat issues or failure? Why isnt anyone implementing this into their ROMs?
No adverse side effects that I have noticed. Most people have noticed a slight increese in playing video from internal memory and web browsing cashed sights. Read the thread its full of good info.

What's the point of overclocking the E3D?

I've run my E3D stock at 1.2 Ghz and I've run it overclocked under temp root at 1.7 Ghz. Sure my benchmarks are higher @ 1.7, but as a practical matter, do I notice the phone working any faster?
Not really.
It is like driving 150 vs 120. 150 is faster but does it really seem that much faster? (I've driven both speeds and I can tell you it doesn't). At some point our phones are "fast enough" for the software we throw at them. Now I admit I'm not a phone gamer so I cannot comment on the effect of overclocking on games, but just day-to-day desktop stuff, nah, no difference as far as I can tell.
Add to this that it is likely that additional speed is chewing through more battery faster and it hardly seems worth it. Without upping the voltage, your phone will likely be more unstable overclocked and with more voltage will likely have a shorter life or get cooked altogether.
For me, I'll probably just leave the speed stock.
I'm not saying I am "right" about this. Just my opinion at this point in time. YMMV.

This is agreed up to a point. Sooner or later they will be creating apps and OS' that will truly utilize the full dual cores potential within the phone. I personally believe that up until that point the OP is 100% right on. But once this does happen, these apps will become more and more processor heavy. And once that happens, I believe we'll be back in the same boat as before and 1.2 vs. 1.7 will actually make a bit of a difference to the typical end user (and not just by benchmark enthusiasts).
The only reason I believe this to be true is look at how PCs and laptops evolved. We got dual core processors and apps weren't quite using the full potential, then as time went on and programmers started utilizing the full processing capabilities of dual/quad cores (& as these processors became more and more common) the differences began to matter again. That's just my 2 cents & I could be completely wrong, but just wanted to share my thoughts. Good topic though

I agree with you. Even in the games i play there is almost no difference, except that the battery gets drained faster because of the higher voltage.

I kinda agree with you in the matter of it not making a HUGE difference. But when I'm overclocked to 1.7, I do notice that it seems to scroll smoother. But that's the only difference I can see.

This would be my philosophy. A 1.2 GHz Dual Core is absolutely insane compared to what us Hero users used to have to deal with. My phone couldn't even handle 768, it was stable at 691.

I have my 3D oc'ed to 1.5 and ever so slightly undervolt to 1175000 (too many zeroes?)
Totally stable for me. Battery doesn't seem effected much.
Of course I haven't done heavy gaming yet. So. I dunno. I'm still in the honeymoon phase of just being Able to overclock, ya know. Lol.

I dont know what the stock voltage is, but wouldnt this essentially balance out the extra battery draw from running a slightly higher clock?

I've overclocked mine a few days, now I'm at stock 1.2 almost no difference. Running the script for overclock is nice though because it allows the use of apps like setcpu. That way profiles can be set for temperature and battery charge level.
As for overclocking because its awesome fast... No need, sweet the way it is.

I agree. It doesn't feel much if any faster and is probably needlessly using excess battey.
On the otherhand, I find there to be a pretty big difference between driving 120, 150, or even 170 mph.

[POLL] Can your EVO 3D Overclock beyond 1.5GHZ and be stable? Over 80% Says YES!

I am one of the unlucky ones that no matter what kernel/rom combination I cannot sustain over 1.5GHZ without a re-boot.
Curious to see how many share my ill fortune to see whether this is more the exception or the norm among the XDA EVO 3D community...
I can do 1728, but 1782 reboots on me. I'm glad though... My hero was stuck at 691, my first shift couldn't top 1000, the second one got 1600 but others got 1800, so I'm happy with 1728. And just a note, I could get higher using on demand versus other governors, so be sure to try that.

I don't know what the **** a 3vo is, but my Evo 3D gets sluggish if I go over 1.5. But that's because of something in the SilverNeedle test5 kernel, from what I hear.

I dunno, mine is rock solid at 1728 and benchmarks faster and is still liquid smooth... My Evo3D that is. Idk wtf a 3vo is either but they sound fast as well.

From what I now understand, the CPU bin will play a role of whether your phone can go past 1.5Ghz and remain stable. But some of you guys need to wait because the kernels aren't made for every phone in mind. One may work for yours, the other may work for someone. So let the kernels get out of there beta stages.

I've had mine up there without issue. Though where I got into trouble was using insmod and undervolting, my phone generally needed a reboot under 1100000 =/

It isn't bad silicone, just lower binned. But we don't know if that is the case. The kernels are still in their beta stages.

And the 1.8ghz is max? In standby ect i want it underclocked.

On my E4G I set min384/max1176 for a vast majority of its life and never had bad battery life that wasn't coming from somewhere obvious like 4g on, low 3g signal, etc... And with the havs/uv kernels it was even better battery life than bone stock.... Id image same will happen here. I've been rocking 384/1728 since netarchy released his test kernel and I have no noticeable difference in battery life.

the cpu on the 3d is a 1.5GHz, but HTC underclocked it to 1.2GHz.
i get 1.8 and am stable, on a 1.5, you should be able to hit 1.7 with zero issues. most should be able to hit 1.8+ w/ no (or very little) issues.
Was running 1836 with no problems when I was temp rooted. Now I'm fully rooted and using nets kernel and capped at 1728. Both are stable and fast.

[Q] How does the Atrix stack up to the new dual cores??

I just switched over to the atrix from the infuse.. I have it unlocked and rooted.. Wanting to oc but not fully understanding so I'm taking it slow lol.. But i was wondering. How does the power of the 'FIRST' dual core stack up to compared to todays dual core phones?? Is this still a good phone (Since I just got it) and will it continue to be a good phone?
With a custom kernel, most benchmarks are placing it right under or even with SGSII... not bad considering that phone comes stock with 1.5 GHz dual core.

here's the thing for me, though: you're installing custom kernels and doing this and that to a phone to get it to perform at max capability.
but, to me, that's slightly artificial considering that if you did the same to another phone, then that phone's benchmarks would also be increased, therefore not really providing any gain for the original device.

I'm not running a OC kernel, but Faux's enhanced kernel @ 1 GHz. The main thing was getting rid of motoblur, and freeing up the ram. My benchmarks aren't as fast as the SGSII, but they aren't miles behind either.... not bad considering it's half a year older. I happen to like Nivida's technology too, but that's just a personal preference.

That's correct. Right now, though, the difference is negligible. So negligible that only benchmarks will show the real difference. Now, there's several games that will work only on the Tegra platform because the other CPUs don't have the same capabilities in the graphics department.... though it's not like everyone writes games based on these settings or even optimize other games for them.

Ahem... Optimus 2X claims the first prize
Anyway I don't have an Atrix 4G, I have an Optimus 2x, same CPU. In my opinion the Tegra seems on-par with the Galaxy S2.
I'm not sure if there is a CM7 for the Atrix, but on my Optimus it is at least 2x faster than the stock rom, benchmarks reflect that too.
SunSpider is a benchmark which basically tests various web rendering tasks and gives a total score at the end
On MIUI / 1.5GHZ the Galaxy S2 scored 1600 or so. On 1GHZ, my Tegra 2 scores 1800! A lot of it appears to be down to software though, rather than raw performance, for reference, an iPhone 4 using Safari gets 4700, an Acer Liquid Metal Black which has some sort of 800MHZ snapdragon (I think?) CPU gets 3800.
The iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1 got 16,000 or some stupid figure, well below 10,000 on iOS 5 though. In short, I guess what I'm saying is it's more down to your software setup than the hardware, obviously any phone is going to run like crap on a stock rom with 100,000 facebook and twitter apps.
